• Verbal communication refers to the utilization of
words to express ourselves in front of other
people. In short message is transmitted verbally.
• Thus it is an inclusion of both spoken and written
communication.

Advantages
• Spontaneous and natural
• Easy to understand
• Choice of words generally suits the audience
• Supported by non verbal
• Physically available
• Creates close relations between the speaker and
the listener

• Words are temporary. Spoken words disappear in
air
• Words are not permenant
• What is heard is often forgotten
• There may be mismatch in verbal and non verbal

Formal Communication
• The communication in which the flow of information
is already defined is termed as Formal
communication
• Used in workplace and the employees are bound to
follow it
• Upward / Bottom up (subordinate to superior)
• Downward / Top-down (superior to subordinate)
• Horizontal / Lateral (same level)
• Crosswise / Diagonal (different level)

Informal communication
• The communication which does not follow any pre-
defined channel for the transmission of information
is known as informal communication
• Single strand chain (1-1)
• Cluster strand chain (1-many /group of friends)
• Probability chain (random)
• Gossip chain (many - many - many)

Internal Communication
• Information exchange within the organization
• Through - personal contact, telephone, e-mail,
intranet
• Vertical, horizontal, diagonal
• Helps employees in performing their work,
developing a clear sense of organization mission
and identifying and promptly dealing with potential
problems.

• Both within the organization and ouside of it.
• Can be formal and informal
• Depends on the situtation

• It is essential for the individual growth

• For example, smiling when you meet someone
