2. My Project
ï‚ž The theme I chose for my photography project
was desertion (meaning abandoned and
isolated). This theme was a very interesting
challenge. I chose it because I myself wanted
to explore these locations but to also capture
images that would truly reflect the mood and
atmosphere of these places. Also to show a
reflection on society the way the country has
evolved unfortunately. Going back five or six
years, one would have great trouble trying to
find abandoned locations, but today they are
only minutes away.
3. My Project
ï‚ž The locations I visited were completely
untouched, I did not disturb them or alter their
surroundings in anyway, because I wanted to
simply capture the environment exactly the
way it was left. I found working with this theme
particularly unique because what I was
shooting wasn’t aesthetically pretty or visually
stunning. The surroundings and scenery (if
you like) were dark, damp and grimy, the
colours dull and faded. That’s what made it so
intriguing; trying to imagine what these places
once looked like.
4. My Project
ï‚ž The camera I used was an ordinary digital camera
(Sony 12 megapixel). I didn’t use any effects or post
production techniques; instead I relied heavily on
lighting, orientation and camera angles. I took the
shots in the late afternoon and early evening in order
to get the correct lighting. This was to create an
effect of eeriness or mystery in the locations I
photographed and also to emphasise the sinister
character of these locations. As I mentioned I used
camera angles and lighting in order to create a more
intriguing picture, but also to explore photography in
amore in deep and creative way. I truly enjoyed the
theme I chose to work on and enjoyed thinking about
how to create a more interesting picture.
