The document outlines the brainstorming process and ideas for Wenwen Li's major studio final project. It describes three initial concepts: 1) an interactive 3D map of NYC projected on the ground that users can navigate with Kinect; 2) creating colorful shadows using video tracking; and 3) using mirrors to encourage self-reflection in audiences inspired by Marina Abramovic's performance "The Artist is Present". For each idea, Li discusses inspiration, intended audience, goals, and technical challenges.

Here
are
my
brainstorm
photos,
as
it
was
my
handwriting
version
and
in
a
mass,
I
have
combed
the
information
which
led
to
my
final
idea
following
the
photos.
IDEA#1:
ISS
Tour
Map
2. 1.
Inspiration:
My
inspiration
came
from
Soo.
Her
opinion
was
that
I
should
keep
working
on
3D
map
but
make
it
big
enough
for
people
to
stand
on
and
walk
through
it.
2.
How:
The
first
idea
I
thought
about
was
painting
but
it
is
not
that
realistic.
I
need
a
map
that
is
waterproof
and
won’t
disturb
pedestrians:
Projector+Kinect
My
idea
is
to
have
the
map
projected
on
the
ground
and
people
can
interact
with
it
by
kinect.

3.
Who
is
your
audience?
Tourists
4.
What’s
the
intended
change/reaction/interaction
you
hope
to
elicit?
Giving
audiences
a
feeling
of
walking
in
a
small
size
of
NYC, as
well
as
a
more
clear
sense
of
travel
sights.
5.Problems?
• Cost.
• Permission.
• Power.
• Where.
• Image
quality
• Technology
Support.
4. 1. Inspiration
It
came
from
a
photo
I
took
in
a
sunny
afternoon
on
shadow.
2. My
precedents
I
found
some
awesome
pictures
about
shadow.
5.
6.
7.
8.
I
like
all
of
them,
especially
Michael’s
Neff-‐fence.
But
I
finally
choose
the
last
painting
as
my
precedent.
3. How
Technically,
I
don’t
know
how
to
achieve
it.
What
I
want
the
effect
is,
when
people
stand
in
front
of
a
screen,
they
will
have
colorful
shadows.
What
solution
I
figure
out
is
making
a
video,
and
track
the
shadow.
4. Who
is
your
audience?
All.
Especially
for
that
whose
life
is
in
dark.
5. What’s
the
intended
change/reaction/interaction
you
hope
to
elicit?
9. My
purpose
is
to
show
that,
shadow
is
the
opposite
of
light
and
always
dark,
but
I
can
turn
it
into
colorful,
let
alone
one’s
life.
Accordingly,
I
hope
to
see
people
be
happier
and
inspired.

and
Precedent
Marina
Abramovic:
The
Artist
is
Present.

Marina

Made
Me
Cry
http://marinaabramovicmademecry.tumblr.com/
After
I
read
this
photos,
I
cried
myself.
But
it
not
because
of
sadness.
I
was
just
touched,
and
felt
that
I
saw
everyone’s
story
in
the
portrait.
Also,
it
confused
me
that
why
this
audiences
would
cry
when
they
stared
at
the
lady(
Marina
Abramovic).
I’m
curious
about
their
feelings
at
that
moment.
It’s
a
charged
atmosphere
in
the
room,
and
when
people
were
sitting
there,
they
get
in
a
sort
of
meditative
zone.
Maybe
some
emotional
experience.
Said
one
of
the
audiences.
2.
How
and
intention
I
tried
to
figure
out
what
or
when
people
will
recall
their
memories
and
examine
themselves.
In
my
opinion,
Marina’s
performance
was
to
create
a
static
moment
(or
space)
in
such
a
big,
busy,
and
noisy
environment.
Marina
sat
in
front
of
the
audiences,
but
what
they
thought
about
was
themselves.
It
made
me
think
about
the
mirror.
I
noticed
that
some
people
would
staring
at
themselves
through
a
mirror
for
epic
lengths
of
time,
in
variously
different
of
reasons.
And
what
I
want
to
do
is
to
see
if
it
is
possible
to
make
my
audience
think
about
who
they
are
and
why
they
do
the
things
they
do
through
MIRROR.
My
idea
is
to
cut
a
face-‐shaped
hole
in
the
center
of
a
Mirror
where
it
is
usually
audience’s
face
when
look
at
it,
so
that
the
audience
could
only
see
what’s
around
him/her.
Or
stick
on
a
face-‐shaped
paper
instead.
13. 3.
Audience?
All.
4.
Problem?
• Where
• Meaning?
• Would
it
be
confused?
What
would
be
your
final
deliverable
this
semester?
Honestly,
I
haven’t
decided
yet.
The
mirror
seems
easier
to
achieve
technically,
but
I’m
not
sure
about
its
feasibility.
So
I’m
still
consider
about
the
problem.
