Dear Parents,
Last Friday evening, I was lucky to join five of our TX pupils from Year 6 as they
explained to a special audience about how they had raised awareness of the plight
of the rhino. Ms Hong Nhung, a famous Vietnamese singer joined the group,
comprising of primary and secondary BIS students. She feels passionate about
stopping the killing of the rhinos for their horns. I was very proud of Tony, Anh Vu,
Hannah, Minh and Phong; they expressed their opinions well and shared their
knowledge confidently.
Another weekend event was the swimming gala hosted by ISHCMC. Sixteen of our
TX swimmers competed from Year 3 to Year 5. After spending some time on Saturday with the
swimmers, I would like to congratulate them on their effort and achievements.
I hope you have all received information about our annual swimming galas which are taking place at TX
next week. MP1 will be competing in the house competition on Thursday from 12:30pm and MP2 on
Friday from 12 pm. All parents are welcome.
Next week, we will also be holding a variety of events to raise funds for the Nepal Earthquake appeal.

Today the Finer Diners were our Masters of Learning
for Perseverance, who joined Mr John and Ms Emma
for lunch.
The Finer Diners were from Year 1 John and Ada; Year
2 Nicholas and Phuong; Year 3 Abhinav and Saranya;
Year 4 Yui and Yun Seo; Year 5 Thibault and Jenny
and from Year 6 Annie and Minnie.

On the 7th of May, five children from year 6 at TX (Phong, Anh Vu, Tony, Hannah and Minh) were given
the chance to go to AP1 to meet a famous singer called Hong Nhung to discuss her work on saving
rhinos. As well as being a famous Vietnamese popstar, Ms Hong Nhung is also the Rhino Ambassador of
Vietnam.
We took with us a range of work, including the pledges
we had collected from our „Save the Rhino‟ campaign,
which we held at school in April. We also had prepared a
range of questions to ask her and were lucky enough to
get some answers.
First, she explained to us that she had been to South
Africa to visit rhinos and is well known amongst other
campaigners due to her „Rhino Ambassador‟ title. Whilst
in Africa, she witnessed some extremely sad events
including a Rhino dying and the blood of it dripping on to
her shoe. She quoted, “It was the most dreadful scene I
ever witnessed. I couldn‟t sleep at night.”
All three campuses including TX, AP1 and AP2 had representatives to meet her. During the questions we
all had an interesting discussion about black market trading with rhino horn. We talked about whether we
should actually farm the rhino horn so rhinos wouldn‟t be killed illegally, or just ban this illegal trade.
However, this might lead to more demand and higher prices. We felt even more inspired after meeting
Hong Nhung and were happy to see so many people campaigning to stop this horrible problem.
We found this interesting because in class we had all already discussed this terrible issue of how
poachers kill innocent rhinos, chop their horn off and sell it in the black market. Then the horn will later be
grinded into a solution to drink. Vietnam is one country that believes that this solution can cure several
diseases including cancer.
Ms Hong Nhung explained that rhino horn (which is absolutely useless because it is made by the same
material as your hair and nails, known as keratin) can cost more than $300,000 which is more than a bar
of gold! She also discussed that a shocking 3 rhinos are killed every day!
Finally, at the end of our interview, the teachers and staff handed out some rhino rangers T-shirts for all of
us and we had a photo with all children, staff and teachers and of course the inspiring Ms Hong Nhung.

Parents’ Corner
Parents’ Lunch
Nineteen parents had a great time at Nha Hang Ngon restaurant
last Wednesday for the first TX lunch. We got to know each other
by playing an „ice-breaking‟ game called „Guess who?‟ Everyone
wrote 3 facts they wanted to share with the group on a piece of
paper without adding their name. Afterwards, we had to try to
guess who among us was the fashion designer, the drama lover,
the one who loves to travel but not by bus, the big eater, the
shopping addict etc. It was a lot of fun.
The food was delicious; thanks to our Vietnamese mums who
ordered for the group, helping us discover new dishes and telling
us all about them. A special thanks to Duyen and Trang who
were lovely hostesses, always making sure everyone was happy.
Parents‟ lunches are open to everyone so don’t miss the next
one. Over the next academic year, we will try to explore cuisine
from all over the world as well.
Buổi ăn trưa của phụ huynh
Tại nhà hàng Ngon, thứ Tư vừa rồi, 19 phụ huynh của TX đã có một bữa trưa rất vui vẻ. Để làm quen với
nhau, mọi người đã cùng chơi một trò đố vui đơn giản. Mỗi phụ huynh đã viết thông tin về bản thân – bao
gồm 3 manh mối – lên một mảnh giấy. Mọi người đã dựa trên các dữ kiện đó để đoán xem ai là nhà thiết
kế thời trang, người yêu phim truyền hình, ai là người thích đi du lịch mà không bằng xe buýt, ai là người
ăn nhiều, ai nghiện mua sắm... Mọi người đều rất vui vẻ.
Thức ăn rất ngon. Cảm ơn những phụ huynh người Việt đã gọi món và giới thiệu cho mọi người về những
món ăn này. Đặc biệt cảm ơn Duyên và Trang đã chủ trì bữa trưa này và luôn khiến mọi người vui vẻ.
Tất cả phụ huynh đều có thể tham gia các sự kiện này. Trong năm học tới, chúng tôi sẽ cố gang để khám
phá thêm nền ẩm thực trên khắp thế giới.
Calling all parents: Can you help?
Fund Raising for Nepal: Cake and Card Sale
1 : Bake cakes, breads, pretzels, cup cakes etc… and donate to school as follows :
Children in EYFS and MP1 please donate for the first bake sale on Thursday 21st .
Children in MP2 and MP3 please donate for the second bake sale on Friday 22nd.
Donations can be made to the office/parents in the morning or before 2pm on the
appropriate day.
2 : Be a volunteer and help set up, sell cakes and greetings cards and tidy up.
It‟s just 30 min work for a good cause. No money involved. Children will use tokens.
If you can donate a little of your time to help the people of Nepal, please sign up on the
sheet on the parents notice board in the foyer.

Raising money to support earthquake victims of Nepal
Everyone has heard about the terrible earthquakes that have hit Nepal over the past weeks, and we have
all seen lots of photos showing how completely some places have been destroyed.
Next week, we are going to do some activities to raise some money to send to Nepal to help the people
there to recover from the earthquake.
Many schools were destroyed in the earthquake. We will send all of the money that we raise to The British
School of Kathmandu (TBS), who are already working with community partners to rebuild two schools.
The principal of TBS, Mr. John Moore, confirmed that every penny will go towards helping rebuilding
projects directed to Dhading schools and Bungamati DSA school (hearing and sight impaired children and
the disabled new life centre).
So what will we do?
Card making
We will make amazing greeting cards. The activity is free for all children to do but they
will donate the cards they make so that they can be sold to raise money on Thursday
and Friday.
Sponsored Swim
Ms. Charlie and Mr. Chau will supervise the children in swimming a set distance.
Children will ask friends and family to sponsor them.
DONATION – comes from sponsorship.
Donate for a book
EYFS children will bring in a book and
then, for a set donation, will select a new
book to take home and enjoy with their
parents.
DONATION: VND 30,000 per book
Bollywood Dance Session
Children will make a donation and learn a Bollywood dance
which they will perform in assembly on Friday 22 May. Look out for the sign-up sheets in the foyer.
DONATION: VND. 30,000 per child to attend the session.
Cake and Card Sale
Children can donate a cake, and these will be sold for a set VND donation on
Thursday and Friday after school.

EYFS and MP1 will donate the actual cakes for the sale on Thursday, while MP2 and
MP3 will donate for Friday.
PLEASE NOTE: Donations for all activities/purchases above should be made by purchasing tokens from
Ms. Oanh in the office as of Monday morning. The cost of one token is VND 30,000. Children can then
give the token to the staff/parent in charge of the activity/stall.
ALSO: these are suggested donations. Additional donations can be made in VND into the special
donations box located in the office.

U11 Netball
On Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th May the U11 Netball Squad
played against AP1 and TD AIS. The squad consisted of: Hannah
Bui, Tyler Nguyen, Anh Vu Dang, Gia Vinh Le Nguyen, Bao Tran,
Jeanette Vo, Jamie Donnelly, Yu Gyeong Kang, Pana Duong, Khoa
Tran, Susu Le, Kelly Tran and Rishi Ahuja.
On Wednesday the TX squad played against AP1. It took the team
the first quarter to settle in their positions. However, during the
second quarter the team scored a goal and this inspired everyone to
fight for the ball. In the third and fourth quarter the game flowed and
the TX team were connecting. Khoa and Anh Vu made some superb
interceptions that enabled the squad to gain possession and score.
The player of the match went to Khoa for making some superb
defensive plays. The final score was 7-8 to the opposition. TX keep
up the hard work in training and we'll get them next time.
On Thursday the squad played against TD AIS. The students
stepped onto the court with more focus and confidence than any
other game before. From the onset of the game the TX squad
dominated with superb passes down the centre court. Pana and
Susu worked exceptionally well in the circle together reading the play
and the space. This resulted in them scoring several goals. Kelly
also worked the ball around the circle receiving the ball and scoring
baskets.
The team worked really hard to secure a win. The final score was
15-0 to TX. The player of the match went to two students Kelly and
Susu. They worked extremely well within the shooting positions. Well
done to all the students that took part in the game!
ISHCMC Swim Meet
The ISHCMC Swim Meet took place on the 9th and 10th May. The TX squad consisted of 15 students.
The students took part in both long and short course events. The squad enjoyed the meet immensely.
Well done to all the swimmers especially Andrew Vu who came first in his age group and Quynh An Tran
who came third. BIS TX came in 7th
with 522 points overall out of 10 international schools.
Over the next two weeks in lessons the year 3-6 students will be taking part in a charity swim to raise
money for the Nepal appeal. The students will need to swim as many lengths as possible individually or as
a team in 30 minutes. Parents, friends and family can sponsor the students to swim a distance or donate
money per length. Students will bring home the sponsorship forms. We are looking to raise as much
money as possible to help the people of Nepal overcome the devastating effects of the disaster they have
suffered.

What is Zumba Dance Club:
“Zumba Dance Kids” is designed for our younger Zumba® fans! Kids 6-11 years old get the chance to be
active and jam out to their favorite music. Classes feature kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba®
choreography. Our Zumba Instructor will break down the steps; add games, activities and cultural
exploration elements into the class structure. Classes help develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate
fitness as a natural part of children's lives by making fitness fun. In addition to the fun/fitness aspect,
classes incorporate key childhood development elements like leadership, respect, team work, confidence,
self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination & cultural awareness.
All Classes are run by an Australian qualified Early Childhood teacher, internationally certified as a Zumba
instructor for both Adults & Children.
