Digital Ethics or The End of The Age of Legends v5.2Darren Kuropatwa
Slide deck in support of a conversation with educators about how to embed the teaching of digital ethics across the curriculum and holding up a mirror to our own ethical online behaviour before becoming too critical of the students who learn from us.
Held at the Building Learning Communities Conference in Boston, MA. 17 July 2015.
We live in an age where everything is recorded digitally – in pictures, video, and text – live as it happens; it's the end of the age of legends. "Selfie", according to the Oxford dictionary, is the word of the year 2013. Often the selfies our students are sharing aren't putting their best digital foot forward. As teachers, how can we help our students leave digital footprints they can be proud of? Is only sharing your "best stuff" such a good idea? How do we address the issue of digital ethics across the curriculum and in our classrooms?

KidMobile is one their latest innovations. It is basically a mobility protection device for kids using GPS Tracking. It is the perfect solution for today’s working parents. It is a device parents can use to track their children through a GPS system. Today, where both the parents are working, the child is often left unsupervised. This is a device that can bring them some sort of peace and reassurance. Apart from the tracking feature, it provides constant updates and messages as well. Parents can track their kids’ safety and avoid unexpected delay in their journey from and to school by receiving notifications or alerts if the predefined scheduled is not respected. Parents can control who can reach their children and avoid unwanted callers. In the case of an emergency, they can rely on the auto call and the panic button to receive messages with precise location.
Their tagline is “Know where your kids are, no matter where you are!”
Key Features:
1)Remote images with GPS location.
2)Daily map location.
3)Control of the contacts
4)No unwanted calls Alerts and notifications
5)Auto calls answering
6)A panic button that sends a text message with GPS location.

The power of the online professional learning networkJo Mcleay
Coming to a conference like the annual VATE conference is a great way of learning and becoming inspired about our teaching. We gain ideas, resources and new ways of thinking about our practice in the classroom. But it is only once a year. Over the last few years I have found my professional learning extended by finding a network of enthusiastic and knowledgable teachers and educators from all around the globe who are on hand to give me inspiration and ideas whenever I need it. My new online Professional Learning Network (PLN) is a global network and fluid enough to accommodate learning anytime, anywhere. This workshop will demonstrate the use of nings, blogs, Twitter and diigo as a means to connect with other educators on a global scale and make learning more meaningful. It is for teachers at all levels of experience and all year levels.

Educational Technology in the NJ ClassroomLisa Thumann
New Jersey K12 schools have been charged with preparing our students to excel in the community, work place, and in our global society. What are we doing to accomplish this? Let's look at how these students, educators, and administrators are using digital tools to communicate, collaborate, and create in the New Jersey classroom.
These are the slides that went along with my presentation on March 13, 2012 at the Annual NJECC conference in NJ. The topic of the presentation was how to use Twitter without having an account.
With the budget cuts in NJ schools this past year, many educators don't have funding for PD. Our NJECC meeting this month will be about how schools are dealing with the cuts, what types of PD their districts are spending money on and of course, how we can harness the power of our networks to bring in free professional development virtually.
Using Google Apps to Foster Global CollaborationsLisa Thumann
One of the most effective ways to get students collaborating with each other is to use tools that are easily accessible. If the tools are browser agnostic, have no demand for installations or updates, and are intuitive, the collaboration is more likely to be effective. Together, let’s look at Google Forms, Docs and Sites as a suite of tools to facilitate and foster Global collaborations.
