Let’s Talk Twitter: An Overview
It’s a social network that lets users write and read
online posts – tweets!
Tweets are limited to 140 characters.
There are 319 million active users (Q4, 2016).
It’s now an essential communication tool.

Let’s Talk Twitter: Handles
Handle = username = @tweetvandijk
Create one that reflects who you are.
Be memorable. Try to keep it short.
Keep it pretty.

Let’s Talk Twitter: @
The @ is used before a handle to identify accounts
that you mention in your tweets.
If you misspell the handle or forget the @, the person
will not be notified about your tweet. Your followers
will also not be able to click the link.

The # is used to organize information so that it is easy
to find.

What Happens if You Make a Mistake?
It’s probably not a big deal.
You can delete tweets.
But it’s quite alright to send out a second tweet
that corrects your previous mistake.

Some Things to Keep in Mind
People are more likely to value your tweets if they
include relevant and interesting content.
Be engaging. Ask questions, respond to others
and crowdsource.
Try to keep tweets under 120 characters.

Look for hashtags.
Who is followed by the people you follow?
Who else is on lists that you are a member of?
Who follows you?

Let Your Personality Shine

Be Responsible, and Trust Yourself
People are watching. (Dun Dun Dun)
Maybe you should have separate professional and
personal accounts.
It’s often about common sense.
Remember applicable policies and guidelines.
