Government Republican Parliamentary Democracy. Was a republican in 1923. The president established authoritarian. This lasted until 1950. Few interruption from the millitary. Current constitution was written in 1982. One-house legistlature called The Grand National Assembly. 500 people elected every 5 years. Prime minister and the President share power. Population Approximately 78 million people. Average of 94 people live per kilometer. 75.5% live in cities and 24.5% live the countryside. 1990 ~ 2000 the population grew 1.27%. 0-14 year:26.6%       15-64 year:67.1%       65 year and up: 6.3% 1960 ~ 1970 many Turkish people moved to European countries. During Cold war people from Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union migrated to Turkey. People from Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Pakistan migrates to Turkey often as well. Economy One of the leading producers of agriculture. 38% of Turkey's land is arable. 90% is devoted to cereal. wheat is the principle crop and it took 59% of the grain production in 1999. 18 billion tons of wheat were grown in 1999. Aso produced 20 billion tons of sugar beat,3.65 billion tons grapes, 2.4 billion tons of maize, 86 million tons of sun flower seeds, 80.2 tons of cotton and 83 million tons of oranges in 1999. Signed a free trade agreement with its neighbors. (Example: Israel, Morocco, Syria and Egypt.) Every region receives about 100% of water. 12 years of education. Very cheap to live in Tukey. Climate The coasts have mild climate. The inland has colder winters and it's drier. Located as Asia miner. Influenced by:       1. Being bordered on the south by the Mediteranean.       2. Culture Muslims: 98% Orthodox, Gregorian, Jewish, Catholic, Protestant and Christians: 2% Turkish is spoken 90%. Arabic is spoken 6%   Famous for:       1. Coffee and tea       2. Carpets called "Killims"       3. Hand crafted goods People eat:       1. Yogurt       2. Pilaf       3. Kebab Turkish Yogurt Turkish pilaf kebab Muslims in Turkey
