In recent times, fractional order controllers are gaining more interest. There are several fractional order controllers are available in literature. Still, tuning of these controllers is one of the main issues which the control community is facing. In this paper, online tuning of five dierent fractional order controllers is discussed viz. tilted proportional-integral-derivative (T-PID) controller, fractional order proportional-integral (FO-PI) controller, fractional order proportional-derivative (FO-PD) controller, fractional order proportional-integral-derivative (FO-PID) controller. A reference tracking method is proposed for tuning of fractional order controllers. First order with dead time (FOWDT) system is used to check feasibility of the control strategy.

Signature PSO: A novel inertia weight adjustment using fuzzy signature for LQ...journalBEEI
Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is an optimization algorithm that is simple and reliable to complete optimization. The balance between exploration and exploitation of PSO searching characteristics is maintained by inertia weight. Since this parameter has been introduced, there have been several different strategies to determine the inertia weight during a train of the run. This paper describes the method of adjusting the inertia weights using fuzzy signatures called signature PSO. Some parameters were used as a fuzzy signature variable to represent the particle situation in a run. The implementation to solve the tuning problem of linear quadratic regulator (LQR) control parameters is also presented in this paper. Another weight adjustment strategy is also used as a comparison in performance evaluation using an integral time absolute error (ITAE). Experimental results show that signature PSO was able to give a good approximation to the optimum control parameters of LQR in this case.

Multi-objective Optimization Scheme for PID-Controlled DC MotorIAES-IJPEDS
DC Motor is the most basic electro-mechanical equipment and well-known for its merit and simplicity. The performance of DC motor is assessed based on several qualities that are most-likely contradictory each other, i.e. settling time and overshoot percentage. Most of controller’s optimization problems are multi-objective in nature since they normally have several conflicting objectives that must be met simultaneously. In this study, the grey relational analysis (GRA) was combined with Taguchi method to search the optimum PID parameter for multi-objective problem. First, a L9 (33) orthogonal array was used to plan out the processing parameters that would affect the DC motor’s speed. Then GRA was applied to overcome the drawback of single quality characteristics in the Taguchi method, and then the optimized PID parameter combination was obtained for multiple quality characteristics from the response table and the response graph from GRA. Signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ratio) calculation and analysis of variance (ANOVA) would be performed to find out the significant factors. Lastly, the reliability and reproducibility of the experiment was verified by confirming a confidence interval (CI) of 95%.
An Improved Adaptive Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization for Disassem...IJRESJOURNAL
With the development of productivity and the fast growth of the economy, environmental pollution, resource utilization and low product recovery rate have emerged subsequently, so more and more attention has been paid to the recycling and reuse of products. However, since the complexity of disassembly line balancing problem (DLBP) increases with the number of parts in the product, finding the optimal balance is computationally intensive. In order to improve the computational ability of particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm in solving DLBP, this paper proposed an improved adaptive multi-objective particle swarm optimization (IAMOPSO) algorithm. Firstly, the evolution factor parameter is introduced to judge the state of evolution using the idea of fuzzy classification and then the feedback information from evolutionary environment is served in adjusting inertia weight, acceleration coefficients dynamically. Finally, a dimensional learning strategy based on information entropy is used in which each learning object is uncertain. The results from testing in using series of instances with different size verify the effect of proposed algorithm.

Accelerating Compression Time of the Standard JPEG by Employing the Quantized...IJECEIAES
In this paper, we propose a quantized YCbCr color space (QYCbCr) technique which is employed in standard JPEG. The objective of this work is to accelerate computational time of the standard JPEG image compression algorithm. This is a development of the standard JPEG which is named QYCBCr algorithm. It merges two processes i.e., YCbCr color space conversion and Q quantization in which in the standar JPEG they were performed separately. The merger forms a new single integrated process of color conversion which is employed prior to DCT process by subsequently eliminating the quantization process. The equation formula of QYCbCr color coversion is built based on the chrominance and luminance properties of the human visual system which derived from quatization matrices. Experiment results performed on images of different sizes show that the computational running time of QYCbCr algorithm gives 4 up to 8 times faster than JPEG standard, and also provides higher compression ratio and better image quality.
Modified sub-gradient based combined objective technique and evolutionary pro...IJECEIAES
A security constrained non-convex power dispatch problem with prohibited operation zones and ramp rates is formulated and solved using an iterative solution method based on the feasible modified sub-gradient algorithm (FMSG). Since the cost function, all equality and inequality constraints in the nonlinear optimization model are written in terms of the bus voltage magnitudes, phase angles, off-nominal tap settings, and the Susceptance values of static VAR (SVAR) systems, they can be taken as independent variables. The actual power system loss is included in the current approach and the load flow equations are inserted into the model as the equality constraints. The proposed modified sub gradient based combined objective technique and evolutionary programming approach (MSGBCAEP) with 휆 as decision variable and cost function as fitness function is tested on the IEEE 30-bus 6 generator test case system. The absence of crossover operation and adoption of fast judicious modifications in initialization of parent population, offspring generation and normal distribution curve selection in EP enables the proposed MSGBCAEP approach to ascertain global optimal solution for cost of generation and emission level.
Data-based PID control of flexible joint robot using adaptive safe experiment...journalBEEI
This paper proposes the data-based PID controller of flexible joint robot based on adaptive safe experimentation dynamics (ASED) algorithm. The ASED algorithm is an enhanced version of SED algorithm where the updated tuning variable is modified to adapt to the change of the objective function. By adopting the adaptive term to the updated equation of SED, it is expected that the convergence accuracy can be further improved. The effectiveness of the ASED algorithm is verified to tune the PID controller of flexible joint robot. In this flexible joint control problem, two PID controllers are utilized to control both rotary angle tracking and vibration of flexible joint robot. The performance of the proposed data-based PID controller is assessed in terms of trajectory tracking of angular motion, vibration reduction and statistical analysis of the pre-defined control objective function. The simulation results showed that the data-based PID controller based on ASED is able to produce better control accuracy than the conventional SED based method.
GWO-based estimation of input-output parameters of thermal power plantsTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The fuel cost curve of thermal generators was very important in the calculation of economic dispatch and optimal power flow. Temperature and aging could make changes to fuel cost curve so curve estimation need to be done periodically. The accuracy of the curve parameters estimation strongly affected the calculation of the dispatch. This paper aims to estimate the fuel cost curve parameters by using the grey wolf optimizer method. The problem of curve parameter estimation was made as an optimization problem. The objective function to be minimized was the total number of absolute error or the difference between the actual value and the estimated value of the fuel cost function. The estimated values of parameter that produce the smallest total absolute error were the values of final solution. The simulation results showed that parameter estimation using gray wolf optimizer method further minimized the value of objective function. By using three models of fuel cost curve and given test data, parameter estimation using grey wolf optimizer method produced the better estimation results than those estimation results obtained using least square error, particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, artificial bee colony and cuckoo search methods.

Abstract:The progenies of five sorghum heterozygous populations’ cycles were tested under main and off-season on two different environments irrigated and rainfall conditions for their outcrossing, heterozygosity and inbreeding coefficient using SSR markers, the marker combinations were optimized according to their fragment size. Multi-locus outcrossing rate (tm) and average single-locus (ts) outcrossing rates were estimated using the MLTR software, and TFPGA computer program. The outcrossing rate effected directly by the temperature and relative humidity (RH) during the initial flowering period, which the low temperature with high RH under main season is revealed positive increased in outcrossing than off-season. Progenies outcrossing rate revealed same trend with main population outcrossing and the same trend was observed heterozygosity with decreased in inbreeding coefficient. Higher levels in outcrossing rate and heterozygosity was detected under rainfall environment in two based population progenies, but in three advanced population cycles the outcrossing rate was higher under irrigated than rainfed environment. Inbreeding coefficient revealed negative relation with outcrossing rate and heterozygosity in different population’s progenies.

Abstract:In computer entertainment and video games users interact with machine controlled agents often referred to as Non-Player Characters (NPC). An NPC is generally intended as an antagonist for the user, but frequently helpful NPCs designed to aid the player are employed. These types of NPCs are referred to as companions. This paper presents a novel method for improving companion NPC by way of Language Acquisition through the use of Fuzzy Set theory in the form of Type-2 Fuzzy Grammar, which is an extension of the canonical Fuzzy Grammar by Lee and Zadeh. Type-2 Fuzzy Grammar captures the ambiguity of natural language and can easily model the level of expertise with said language. A case study is presented where humans participate in a multi player Predator-Prey pursuit game. The text messages that players exchange during the game are used to teach the language to a companion NPC so that it may directly interact with the players to test its communication capability. Results show how the companion NPC acquired language and its impact on the game.

Abstract:Study on environmental impact of organic food production to the environment was conducted over the period of four months concentrating exclusively in the Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Limited (KKTE) in Panchagarh district. The main objective of this study was to make an assessment on environmental impact of organic food production. In order to get qualitative information, data were collected through FGDs and KIIs. Organic food is free of harmful chemicals, tastier and healthier than conventional foods, and can be stored more days than chemical foods. Every one articulated the negative impacts of conventional foods. The role of organic production to the environment is inevitable with positive sign. KKTE is playing great role in raising awareness on environment among the workers and community people through training and supporting hardware. Respondents were mentioned that KKTE is playing great role in environmental conservation by planting trees, organic farming and using renewable energy. Such organic production is offering diverse products in the local to national and international market including vegetables, tea, herbal tea, ghee, honey and sweets. Organic production is releasing less carbon by using nature friendly inputs and renewable energy and promoting for communal uses including solar energy and bio-gas plant. Chemical contaminations from others conventional farming are the main problem for organics. Lack of awareness and training is the main hindrance in popularizing the organic foods. Appropriate policy support, incentives, organic food fair may create greater awareness among the mass people. It is recommended that if the perceived problem could be solved by setting up of more tea processing industries, competitive markets at the grass roots for organic foods, supply of natural gas and resolving problems could accelerate the production of organic food production, organic regulations, policy support, training and advocacy would be the pathway for sustainable development.

Using particle swarm optimization to solve test functions problemsriyaniaes
In this paper the benchmarking functions are used to evaluate and check the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. However, the functions utilized have two dimension but they selected with different difficulty and with different models. In order to prove capability of PSO, it is compared with genetic algorithm (GA). Hence, the two algorithms are compared in terms of objective functions and the standard deviation. Different runs have been taken to get convincing results and the parameters are chosen properly where the Matlab software is used. Where the suggested algorithm can solve different engineering problems with different dimension and outperform the others in term of accuracy and speed of convergence.

Modeling and Control of MIMO Headbox System Using Fuzzy LogicIJERA Editor
The Headbox plays an important role in pulp supply system with sheet forming in paper making process. The air cushion headbox is a nonlinear & strong coupling system. In the air cushion headbox system there were two important parameters which include total head and the stock level for improving pulp product quality. These two parameters make this system MIMO output system so for this a decoupling controls strategy was required for interaction between these two control loops. In this paper fuzzy tuned PID control scheme is proposed for controlling the nonlinear control problem in air cushion headbox after the system being decoupled. An attempt has been made for comparison between classical (PID) and fuzzy tuned PID controller. It concludes that the fuzzy tuned PID controller is found most suitable for MIMO system in terms of obtaining steady state properties. The effects of disturbances are studied through computer simulation using Matlab/Simulink toolbox.

Abstract Natural evolution is mimicked by Genetic Algorithms (GAs) which is a stochastic global search method used for optimization. . In missile control systems Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control is widely used, but due to empirically selected parameters Kp, Ki, Kd it is difficult to achieve parameter optimization. Genetic algorithm is a search algorithm that is based on natural selection and genetics principles.GA is a computational algorithm which deals with genetics of the human body. It evolves with the number of iterations. After ever iteration a better result is expected. These results are checked for the error. The fittest roots or solution are considered for the next generation based on the selection criterion. GA randomly generates the initial population of the PID control parameters according to the calculation of selection (Normalized Geometric Selection), crossover (Arithmetic Crossover) and mutation (Uniform Mutation), thus optimizing the control parameters. Mean Square Error (MSE) value is chosen as the performance assessment index. For a missile altitude control Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller using genetic algorithm is implemented & compared with the classical method Zeigler-Nichols (Z-N) in the paper. Z-N method is classical method which tunes the parameters of PID. The parameters of PID are difficult to tune. Tuned parameters give the optimum solution. Optimum solution generally converges to a solution having minimum error. Minimum error gives a response of the system in terms of maximum over shoot, Settling time, Rise time & Steady State Error. The designed PID with the Genetic Algorithm has much faster response than the classical method.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

I. INTRODUCTION
A fuzzy controller is used to control a target system or for supervisory control. It has linguistic interpretation which can be represented using fuzzy sets, membership functions, and fuzzy rules. Real time applications involve more non linearity thus different fuzzy types are used. P-type, PD-type and PI-type fuzzy controllers are the best-known counterparts of conventional PID controller. They are used to achieve better performance with nonlinear processes.
For analyzing performance of systems a two-input single-output fuzzy logic controller is designed. The target end product of paper that needs to be controlled is known as grammage per square meter (GSM). The process as a whole has one controlled output i.e. Basis weight (B) and one manipulated input i.e. pulp flow (G) monitored by the basis weight valve opening (BWVO) at the head box.
The transfer function between input function "G(s)" to output function “B(s)” is given by:
B(s) 5.12
------- = exp (-144*s) ---------- ……………. (1.1)
G(s) 105 s + 1
where G(s) = Pulp Flow at head box and B(s) = Basis weight per square meter
The system uses exp (-144*s) as transportation Lag and τ as time constant of the system. 5.12=K, a constant that represents the dimensional conversion factor based on equipments involved in the system.
The FLC is used to adjust the basis weight valve opening according to the changing values of the basis weight set point. The input variables are the error (e) and change in error (che), and the output variable is basis weight valve opening (bwvo).Fuzzy controller gains needs to be monitored and integral or derivative of the error may be useful inputs as well.
The basic structure and process dynamics for FP, FPD and FPD+I are described below,

II. SERVO MODEL FOR VARYING INPUT USING FLC
A Servo model using Simulink, Fig 1.4 is developed which has a Fuzzy Logic Controller with a rule viewer, two summing elements, a process (Gb), a multiplexer, a derivative element, a input block from where the different types of inputs can be given, four gain elements representing the scaling gains as GE, GCE, GIE and GU, and finally an output block.

The simulation is done for variable inputs i.e. the data for the reference inputs is collected from the mill where online sensors are incorporated and the value of the inputs i.e. the basis weight continuously changes according to the demand. This data has been saved in the m-file of Matlab and is collected from the workspace from where it is given as the input to model of Fig 1.4.
Fig 1.4 Varying input Servo model for basis weight control using FLC
The design parameters for this FLC are now set accordingly i.e. the universe of discourse for the input variables i.e. error in basis weight (e) is now taken according to the maximum error. The universe of discourse of the error is taken as [-20 35]. The universe of discourse for the change in error is taken as [-37 35], while the range of the output variable i.e. the basis weight valve opening (bwvo) is taken as [0 1].
The entire range of inputs as well as the output variables is divided into three subsets each of Gaussian type membership function. The degree of overlapping is taken as 50%. The Fuzzy controller so developed is now implemented for different cases.
The optimum value of GU for each varying input is thus found by the program developed through controller and its values can be seen in the scope window of Fig 1.5.
Fig 1.5 Varying values of GU as given by the Fuzzy controller.

Now to find the optimum value of GE for the system, Fuzzy-P model is developed.
III. FUZZY P MODEL
The values of GU are decided according to the program developed, To develop the Fuzzy P model the values of different scaling gains are taken as: GCE = 0, GIE = 0 and different values of GE as: 0.1, 0.15, 0.25 and 0.4, The model of Fig 2.1 is made to run for these values of scaling gains and the results of simulation can be seen in Fig 1.6.
Fig 1.6 Simulation results of BW for varying input servo model for different values of GE = 0.1, 0.15, 0.25 and 0.4.
This shows that as the value of GE increases, the oscillatory behavior increases and the Rise time decreases. For higher values of GE, the output of the system is oscillatory but not unstable. Out of these values, GE=0.1 is taken as the optimum value. Further tests are carried out to find out the value of GCE, hence a Fuzzy-PD model is now developed.
IV. FUZZY PD MODEL
When the value of GCE is added along with the value of GE, the system becomes Fuzzy-PD model. The different values for the scaling factors are now taken as GE= 0.1, GIE= 0 and various values of GCE are taken as: 1, 2, 5 and 10. The simulation results for the same are shown in Fig 1.7.
Fig 1.7 Simulation results of BW for varying input servo model for different values of GCE = 1, 2, 5, and 10.

The response for GCE= 1, 5 and 10 is almost coinciding. For GCE=20, the response is a bit oscillatory in the beginning, but becomes stable after some time. It has also been tested that as the value of GCE is increased beyond 20, the response becomes more oscillatory. From the results the value of GCE = 1 is taken as the optimum value as it has comparatively lower Rise time.
V. FUZZY PD+I MODEL
For adding the integral effect to the system, the value of GIE is added. The system is now simulated for GE= 0.1, GCE = 1. Various values of GIE are taken as 0.00001, 0.000001, 0.0000001 and 0.00000001 and the results for the same can be seen in Fig 1.8.
Fig 1.8 Simulation results of BW for varying input servo model for different values of GIE = 0.00001, 0.000001, 0.0000001 and 0.00000001.
It is observed from the results that as the value of GIE increases, the overshoot increase. It also has a little effect on the offset. It has also been tested that if the value of GIE is increased beyond 0.00001, the system becomes unstable. From the above tests, the value of GIE = 0.0000001 is selected as the optimum value for the above system as a higher value of GIE eliminates the steady state error quickly.
VI. RESULTS
The performance of different types of Fuzzy Logic Controllers has been analyzed and it has been seen that GU is responsible for the offset, GE affects the oscillatory behavior, and GCE has a lesser effect on the system response. It affects the rise time of the system, but gives oscillations if the value of GCE is increased to a large extent, while GIE has an effect on the stability of the system.
From all the above tests performed, the tuned values of various scaling gains are taken as: GE=0.1, GCE = 1 and GIE = 0.0000001. Using these values the model was simulated and its output can be seen in the scope window of Fig 1.9.

The output of the basis weight (BW Output) moves according to the basis weight set point (BW Set point) but after a delay. The delay measured was 144 seconds. This delay is there in the system because of the process itself. The Fuzzy controller introduces no delay of its own. Now the simulation results for the same process, using the step input and the varying input is performed with a conventional controller. Tuning is done for the constants to get the optimum values for the three constants, and then the results for both types of controllers are compared.
