1. Context
• Should be to solve a problem in the teaching
and learning situation in the current school
• Include collaboration of teacher and pupils
• Professional development within the
researcher
• Enhance professional practice of the
researcher
• Describe the information about the
researcher, subject taught and general
descriptions of pupils and schools*
2. Focus/ Aspect of Practice to Improve
• Should involve teaching and learning
• Should be within your locus of control
• Should be something you feel passionate about
• Should be something you would like to change or
improve
• Evaluate the selection of research focus based on the
following criteria*:
– workability
– significance
– practicality
– control
– collaboration
– relevance to school
3. Research Questions
• Develop questions that “breathe life” into the area-of-
focus statement.
• Research questions should be open-ended!
• Research questions help give a focus to the plan.
• They also help validate that you have a workable plan.
• The research questions should be relevant to the
research objectives*
• The research objectives are stated based on the
following:
– focus
– action
– achievement of action
4. Literature Review
• Become familiar with other research done
on the area of focus
• Utilise the findings of others to help
develop the plan
• Apply research findings through the lens of
others’ experience
• Demonstrates critical review of works with
reference to relevant and credible
literature review*
5. Subjects of the Study
• Determine the subject of your action research
• Subject of your action research comes from
the class that you are currently teaching
• Able to describe all the following descriptions
of the research participant*:
– number
– sex
– class names/ positions
– academic achievement
– other unique characteristics
6. Action Plan
• Describe the action research model stated in
RMK
• Describe the materials or system used as
action in the research
• Describe the process of using the materials
or system produced to improve pupils’
practice and researcher’s practice as a
teacher
• Describe the theories or principles that form
the basis of action proposed
• Make connections of literature review and
actions
7. Planning of Research Implementation
• Put your action plan into action
• Implement your action plan according to
your schedule
• Describe the steps/activities of action
(teaching and learning)*
• Provide the rationale of the proposed
action*
8. Data Collection Methods
• First, decide what kinds of data you will
need.
• Then, determine what kind of access you
have to the data.
• Then, decide how you will gather it.
• Brainstorm what data naturally occurs in
the environment you are studying.
8. Data Collection Methods
• Plan suitable data collection methods to
answer the research questions
• The instrument are described in text or
appendices
Interviews Tests Observations
Portfolios Survey
9. Reflection: Data Analysis &
Interpretation
• Choose the data analysis methods which are
suitable to the types of data collected*
• As the data is collected, it is also continually
organised & analysed
• As new perspectives are gained on the original
area of focus, the problem statement may change
• Interpretation is based on ongoing analysis &
continually reviewing the area of focus
• Draw conclusions from the data analysed
• Translate conclusions into actions or behaviours
• Plan how to implement the actions or behaviours
10. Work Schedule
• Work schedule is important to make sure
that you are always on time
• Allocate time for:
o Implement the action research in
school
o Write a draft report
o Read the draft report
o Revise the draft
o Edit the draft
o Proof-read the draft
o Write the final report
Gantt Chart: Research Progress 2015

Identify the problem
Write the proposal
Draw up action plans
Collect data by giving pre-test to the students
Carry out action plan

Collect data by interviewing the pupils
Draft the report by analysing and interpreting the data
Draft the report by drawing conclusion, reflections and
implications
Revise, edit and proof-read the draft of report

Organise a seminar
Oral Presentation of the findings of study in the seminar
Submission of hard bound copy
Documentation and publication of action research papers
10. Work Schedule
11. Budget
• Plan your budget properly
• Be realistic
• Be prudent
• Spend what is necessary

12. Sources of Reference
• Follow the correct citation skills
• Cite all references
• Get references from various of sources
• References should be written in fully
compliance with the latest APA format*
