SAMPLES
What is sampling?

Re-using pieces of a previously
recorded song to make a new song.
The Evolution of Sampling

S Began in late 1970s
S DJ’s would piece together the “breaks” of songs to create

a longer instrumental piece of music
S Break-dancers (or B-Boys) would dance while the breaks

played
S Rappers would rhyme over the breaks
S This process is how the earliest hip-hop songs were

made
