Design and & Promotion
My publication will give a unique
view on magazines, as it will be
expressing both pop and alternative
music. My magazinewill include up
and coming artists and some well
known pop figures. It will include
album reviews, interviews, song lyrics and latest
news on artists relevant to my theme.
The design of my cover will be quite minimalistic. I
have chosen this because during my research I
found that magazines, which don’t have an
overpowering cover, seem to be successful and
appear very classy and professional. Doing this, it
will also attract the customer more to my cover
image, which I hope will draw in the majority of
my consumers. The colour scheme in which I have
chosen is black, white, grey and maybe a splash of
colour on the cover to catch the reader’s eye e.g.
yellow. This is used on various magazines as a way
to attract customers and catch people’s eyes. My
magazinetitle is , I have chosen this font
as it will stand out as my mastheadand is relevant
to my style of being different and unique.
House Style
I am going to have a colour scheme in which will
be grey, black white and a hint of colour. I think
these certain colours will be effective as it attracts
both genders while keeping to a classy and
professional feel. The colour scheme will be very
effective, as the hunt of colour will make my
magazinestand out amongsthundreds of other
magazines on the market. The font in which I use
within my article will differ from my masthead as I
don’t want it too over powering but all of my
headings and subheading will use the same font as
my masthead to emphasise my particular branding
and make it recognisable. I have researched
certain magazines that do this and their font is
well known which leads to the success of their
magazine. My page layout throughout my
magazinewill be similar to “Q” magazinewith the
idea of one side being an image and the other
being an article related to the image. I have chose
to do this because it looks very sophisticated.
Target Audience
My target audience for my magazine is pop
and alternative music fans. I will also be
including many up and coming artists in which
is different from general pop and alternative
magazines. The age range for my magazine
will be 16 to early 20’s. This is because it is
quite young and fresh but staying to a very
formal feel to the whole magazine. I feel like
the uniqueness and quirkiness of my
magazine wont appeal to those of an older
age, as it’s quite different to what they will
have been used to. I think many young
people, like myself, will appreciate something
new and different and will be more likely to
buy it. The gender for my magazine includes
both male and female to grab both of their
attention and get a wider audience, which
includes more sales. With this, I feel like my
magazine can be more successful as the
colours are very unisex colours.
Cover Information
I would be seeing at looking to price my magazine
between £1-£3. This is because my market
research told me that this is the mostexpected
price for a music magazine. I want to give a fairly
cheap magazine whilst still creating a generous
profit with good quality within the magazine. I am
looking more at a higher price as it will be a very
high-class magazine. The fact that my magazineis
new and different, I think people may be willing to
pay a little more since it’s new and modern.
Would also like to provide my magazine on other
platforms such and mobile phones and the
Internet. This is because, digital downloads have
taken over due to the new technology and I want
to keep with the trend since this magazine is
aimed to be a modern day mag. My market
research showed me that people do read
magazines on other platforms. I may be looking
into creating an app for my magazine with
exclusive benefits. I would like to produce my
magazinemonthly. This is because I don’t want
people to get bored of my magazine. I think that if
it’s monthly; people will more likely buy it since
their will only be 12 every month.
Publishing House
The publishing house in which I would like to
publish my magazine would be Condé Nast.I
would choose this publishing house because
many elements of my own magazine are similar
to the elements of a general Condé Nast
magazine. I also think that this publishing house
is very high class, which is similar to how I want
my magazine to be presented. In addition to
this, usually, their magazine seems to sell well
which highlights to me that they’re very
experienced with what they’re doing.
Furthermore, I think that my magazine is
different to the other magazines within this
publishing house and there would be a gap in
the market for me in this particular publishing
house.
