Treatment
1. MUSIC VIDEO TREATMENT
(FINAL DRAFT)
BAND: FOSTER THE PEOPLE
TRACK: HELENA BEAT
DATE REALEASED: 25th MAY 2012
DIRECTED BY: ALEX ATKINSON + WILL JONES
2. SONG INFORMATION:
TRACK: 127 BEATS PER MINUTE
TRACK LENGTH: 3 MINUTES 52 SECONDS
We have cut off parts of song track using Logic pro, especially in
the chorus. This means we can go off beat during the
song, keeping the audience interested and enhancing the
psychedelic art/house and quirky feeling of disjuncture
portrayed in our music video.
3. INTRO-
• Our video will open with a vinyl that begins to turn on turntable in which we
provide a match to cut sound of the vinyl spinning in conjunction to the music
track.
• We will further enhance this effect on Adobe After Effects, with a swift colour
change coming of the black vinyl e.g. red, purple, blue etc.
• The use of the vinyl taps into the current revival of interest in this analogue
technology which is seen as very stylish still- Vintage intertextual reference.
4. Second Scene- (The Transition from
the Vinyl to the Bike scene)
• There will be a fade from the vinyl provided by a
match cut of a spinning bicycle wheel as the videos
moves away into the narrative. The narrative for this
sequence consists of the band cycling to their studio.
• The target audience will relate to their band using
bicycles as it is very much a student way of transport.
• Bicycles feature in a lot of music videos for example:
The Smiths- Stop me + Arcade Fire- The Suburbs.
5. BIKE SCENE STUDIO SCENE
Once inside the studio, the scene(s) there will be improvised
shots of the group messing around in the studio.
Furthermore, there will be alternating shots from the band
messing around in the studio (and making an attempt to work
together) and the band all united onstage performing at their
heights (which is the dream like setting).
Deeper into the song, there will be a scene, where the band
moves into the recording booth and the members fall out due to
the lack of productivity (as one of the members walks out).
6. MOVING FROM THE STUDIO TO THE
RECORDING BOOTH
Transition change to the whole band playing e.g.
Guitarist, Bassist, Keyboard, singer and drummer.
IMPORTANT- we need to provide a lot of mid shots and close-ups as there is
always a need for audiences to see the members of the band and record
labels need to promote their product.
We intend to use a fish-eye for some of the shots in the recording booth, to
enhance the psychedelic art house effect as well as bringing more aesthetics
to our promo.
7. STOP FRAME ANIMATION SCENES
• We will use Scrabble and Boggle to spell out some of the lyrics that
appear in the chorus. This conforms with the very conventional
theme of conforming the relationship between the lyrics and the
visuals.
• Conveying to the lyrics at some point in our video, we will show a
slinky toy falling down a set of stairs.
• The Keys on the synthesizer will light up with bright, vibrant
colours in the areas where the notes are played on the keyboard
(reference to Michael Jackson- Billy Jean music video on the
pavement scene when the slabs light up)
8. OTHER VIDEO ELEMENTS- BALOON
SCENES
Featuring a balloon in the video (along the plot) gives it
another playful arty element. It echoes the work of modern
artists such as ‘Banksy’, generally adding intrigue and acting
as a metaphoric placement throughout the video.
9. THE ENDING
• From studio to stage performance, feature
the band members walking out of the studio
and the stage to show the juxtaposition in our
music video and taking away the dream.
