Daft Punk – Around The World
Camera
For much of the video the camera slowly tracks the various dancers. Whether it be panning from
high to low, left to right or vice versa. Both panning and zooming is done at a very gradual pace. It
is a very steady movement in order for the viewer to take in all that is happening in the shot. It
often transfers from tracking one set of dancers in the form of a mid-shot, to the next set in the
form of a close-up in one slick movement. There are a number of long shots edited into the piece
in order to give a full view of the choreography as a whole, but this is usually followed by a high
angle pan back to the dancers and back in amongst the action. The close camera work enables
the audience to feel part of the action as opposed to simply sitting and observing from afar. We
believe this is an effective way to engage the audience in the action and plan to use a
combination of close shots to put them in this position.
Sound
Obviously as this is a music video, it is designed to promote the eponymous song so therefore
only the song itself is heard, there is no other sounds apart from the song within the video.
perhaps more intriguing however is the fact that the choreography and actors move perfectly in
time with the song, with each group of dancers performing a instrument, such as the mummies in
the centre stage who act as the bass.
Mise En Scene
In terms of mise en scene, this video is fairly basic, however it is this level of simplicity that makes
it so decent. the viewer is shown a group of dancers on a stage designed to look like a record,
most likely on a dj's turntable which is an obvious reference to daft punk's instruments choice. the
choreograpy is created to work in time with the music and beat, with each group of dancers,
performing a certain instrument in the song, the effect is overwhelmingly aestically pleasing and
the use of colourful lighting effects plus colour in general really does help this simple yet effective
video.
Editing
There is not much editing involved within the video itself, as mostly long shots that sweep across
the action are used. Again this is used so that the dancers moves can be shown to the audience
as if a faster tempo of editing was used then the overall effect of the routine would be lost.
