2. Transformer Testing
Measurement of Load Losses and S.C Current
This test is performed by short circuiting L.V and
applying voltage on H.V so that full Load current
flows in L.V winding.
Applied voltage is measured which is called the
impedance Voltage.
Measured losses are the full Load losses or copper
losses.
4. Transformer Testing
Induced Voltage withstand test
Induced Voltage is performed to check the winding
interturn insulation.
In this test transformer is energized from L.V side with
H.V being opened usually this test is performed at
double voltage and double frequency.
At PEL this test is performed at rated voltage at four
times the frequency.
5. Transformer Testing
Separate Source Voltage Withstand test
High Voltage test is performed to check the H.V
winding insulation from other parts.
L.V and body of transformer is earthed than 3 times
the rated voltage is applied on the H.V side as per IEC
for 11kV transformer 33kV is applied for 1 min.
6. Transformer Testing
Type Testing
Type tests are required to be performed before supply
on a general commercial basis on a type of transformer
in order to demonstrate satisfactory performance
characteristics to meet the intended application.
Following Type tests are performed according to IEC
60076 standards :
• Temperature rise Test.
• Transformer winding resistance measurement.
• Transformer ratio test.

• Measurement of impedance voltage/short circuit
impedance and load loss (Short circuit test).
• Measurement of no-load loss and current (Open
circuit test).
• Measurement of insulation resistance.
• Dielectric tests of transformer.
• Tests on on-load tap-changer.
• Vacuum tests on tank and radiators.
8. Transformer Testing
Special Test
Special tests have to be carried out when required by
agreement between the purchaser and supplier.
In addition to routine and type tests few special test can
also be performed on request.
