Ego states are psychological structures that help understand the world and include the parent, adult, and child states. The parent ego state regulates behavior based on early life recordings. It can be nurturing or critical. The adult ego state collects, processes information, finds options, and draws rational conclusions. It develops around 10 months old. The child ego state is the source of feelings, creativity, intuition, and imagination. It functions through creativity, reactions to others, and adjusting to demands.
