Topics To Write A Argumentative Essay On
Writing an essay on the topic "Topics to Write an Argumentative Essay On" may initially seem
like a straightforward task, but navigating through the vast landscape of potential subjects can
prove to be a challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies not in the act of composing the essay
itself, but rather in the process of selecting a specific argumentative topic from the multitude of
options available.
Firstly, one must consider the relevance and significance of the chosen topic. It is essential to
pick a subject that not only aligns with personal interests but also holds broader societal
importance. This initial step requires thorough research and critical thinking to identify issues that
are both current and debatable.
Once a suitable topic is identified, the challenge intensifies with the need to develop a
compelling thesis statement. Crafting a clear and concise argument that effectively conveys the
essay's purpose and stance demands a keen understanding of the chosen subject matter. This
involves delving into the nuances of the topic, evaluating different perspectives, and formulating
a thesis that is both assertive and defensible.
The research phase adds another layer of complexity. Gathering credible sources, statistics, and
supporting evidence to substantiate the argument requires time and meticulous effort. Proper
citation and adherence to academic standards further contribute to the intricate nature of the
essay-writing process.
Organizing the essay structure becomes a crucial aspect of the challenge. Effectively presenting
the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion in a logical sequence demands skillful
planning and execution. Ensuring a smooth flow of ideas and maintaining coherence throughout
the essay is a task that demands both creativity and precision.
Moreover, the argumentative nature of the essay implies a need to address counterarguments.
Anticipating opposing views and incorporating rebuttals adds a layer of complexity, requiring a
thorough understanding of the subject from multiple perspectives.
In conclusion, while the act of essay writing itself may not be inherently difficult, the challenge
lies in the intricate process of selecting a compelling topic, crafting a strong thesis, conducting
thorough research, and presenting a well-organized argument. It is a task that demands
intellectual rigor, critical thinking, and effective communication skills.
For those seeking assistance with such endeavors, it's worth noting that similar essays and a
myriad of writing services are available. Platforms like HelpWriting.net offer support in
crafting well-researched and expertly written essays on a variety of topics, helping individuals
navigate the challenges of academic writing.

Evaluate Gm s Currency Hedging Policies Essay
3. Evaluate GM s currency hedging policies. [3 pages] {Gavin} {Ryan} The issue
here may lie with the 50% to 75% hedge as it is doubtful as to why GM does not
hedge its receivables / payables by 100%. Perhaps the issue is related to high costs
of using options and their receivables / payables run into huge amounts. Additionally,
GM is not keen on committing to a forward because they have positive expectations
about the future exchange rate and the forward would only serve to limit their
possible gains.

However by paying a small premium for an option, GM would be able to preserve the
upside of any exposure. This is because an option gives them the right to choose
whether to exercise it or not upon maturity. Hence, if the CAD dollar weakens
against the USD, GM s large Canadian assets and liabilities and payables owed to
Canadian suppliers would weaken considerably. GM could then choose to exercise
the option for a better exchange rate. Conversely, if the CAD dollar strengthens, then
GM would choose not to exercise the option as their cash flows denominated in
Canadian dollar is now worth more compared to the USD.
The level of risk adverseness plays a huge role because GM may be inclined to hedge
all exposure using a forward if they are highly risk adverse. On the other hand, GM
may be willing to pay a premium for an option to ensure the still receive the upside
if they are not so risk adverse. This links to expectations on future spot rates and how
GM anticipates the CAD to fluctuate vis Г vis the USD in the coming months. If
GM anticipates future spot rates of CAD/USD to weaken, it would prefer to buy a
forward and the reverse holds true as well.
After conduction an analysis, it shows that the fluctuations in exchange rate could
cause a lot of trouble for GM. Hence, it reverts back to the issue of GM s
expectations of the future spot exchange rate. From this, they can then determine
which hedging method is more
The American Of The Canadian Empire
Once considered the gem of the Canadian Crown Corporations, Air Canada was
afflicted by a storm of financial problems in the early nineties. This onslaught of
financial difficulties, which had been created largely by the Gulf War and the
Canadian recession, increased Air Canada s losses increased at worrisome rates.
Then, after suffering losses upwards of $218 million in 1991, the Board of
Directors recognized the need for a corporate overhaul and consequently appointed
Hollis Harris as the Chief Executive Officer the following year. Harris, a 37 year
veteran in the highly competitive American airlineindustry, was given the
challenging task of returning the struggling airline to profitability. When he was
appointed, many Canadians were outraged that an American would lead a privatized
Canadian company and feared this decision to be a step towards the impending
Americanization of the Canadian culture. Others speculated that Harris was
appointed for the sole purpose of training and mentoring Air Canada s future leader .
However, these individuals were all proven wrong when Harris transformed the
reeling airline into a leading competitor in the global airline industry. His American
background, which was condemned by many, played a significant role in the
expanding Air Canada s international reach. His experience in the aviation sector
combined with his extraordinary leadership skills, helped reduce costs and placed Air
Canada on the path to financial recovery. Finally,
Potato Osmolarity Lab
Estimating the osmolarity of potato tissues by immersing potato rectangles
RQ: How will the weight of potato tubers immersed into sucrose solutions with
different change after 24 hours?
Osmosis is the remaining action of water across a semipermable membrane from an
area with low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration. Osmosis is
for instance an important process, which often happens at the same time that solutes
transport or diffuse.
Hypotonic, hypertonic and isotonic are as long as solutes that cannot cross the
membrane of a cell. Hyptonic has lower osmolarity than the fluid inside the cell,
which means the net flow of water, will be inside the cell.
Hypertonic is when the extracellular fluid has a higher osmolarity ... Show more

Why A Venue Should Be Banned Essay
Introduction
Police, venue and court banning orders are used in Queensland and other Australian
states to address violence in and around licenced premises. These banning orders in
Australia are intended to ban disorderly and/or violent patrons from licensed
premises. There are three types of bans that can be imposed; police imposed bans,
court imposed bans, and venue imposed bans. These three bans differ in a number of
ways, and have different strengths and weaknesses regarding how well they work.
They also relate to different social theories including, deterrence theory, and rational
choice theory; all of which will be explored throughout this presentation.

Venue
Licensed venues are also able to impose bans on violent or disorderly patrons.
However, unlike police and court issued bans, the ban I only applicable to that
specific venue (or if the venue is a part of a chain, it can be applied to all the chain
venues). This also differs from police and court issued bans, as a police or court
issued ban can enforce any venue to ban the offender, however, venue issuing
banning has no control over other venues. Once again, the duration of the ban
differs to police or court bans, instead it is up to the specific venue to decide upon
the length of the ban. Due to this, it is possible for a venue to impose an indefinite
ban on an offender if they so choose. It is also important to note that these bans
cannot be discriminatory and be based of prejudices.
Theories
There are two main social theories that relate to court, venue and police issued bans in
Australia; these being rational choice theory, and deterrence theory. These two
theories often work together, and rely on punishment based judgements.
Rational choice theory makes the assumption that people are rational, and therefore
they will make rational decisions. This theory suggests that when making a decision,
people will take into account incentives and benefits, versus the risks, such as
punishments. If the risk outweighs the benefit, then rational choice theory
Historical Significance of Eleanor Rigby
Overview A song by Beatles, Eleanor Rigby was released simultaneously on the
album Revolver in the year 1966 as well as on a 45 rpm single. Primarily, the song
was written by Paul McCartney and was dedicated to Lennon McCartney (Miles,
1997). George Martin did a great job at making a string quartet arrangement. The
striking lyrics about loneliness along with the arrangement transformed the kind
of songs from what were mostly pop oriented to the kind that were studio based.
There is no second opinion about the fact that this song made a dent in the
conventions of the popular music; both in terms of lyrics and music (Campbell
and Bondy, 2008). Pertaining to the fates and concerns of the elderly that are
mostly neglected, Richie Unterberger has said that this is one of the main reasons
why Beatles have been able to catch the attention of people who are beyond the
traditional rock audience (Unterberger, 2013). Historical Significance This song
also has a historical connotation since there is a gravestone by the name of
Eleanor Rigby in St. Peter s Churchyard that is situated in Woolton, United
Kingdom. It should be noted that Woolton is a suburb of the city of Liverpool and
this is where Lennon and McCartney first met during a fete at St. Peter s Church.
According to the gravestone that bears the name of Eleanor, she died at the age of
44 in the year 1939. Nonetheless, Eleanor is not the kind of lonely people that the
Beatles have stressed upon in their song as she was

A Tale of Resurrection in Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens incorporates many themes, one being
resurrection. This theme is used time and time again in the novel. Resurrection is
revealed not only in the characters, but in the culture of the book itself. Dickens
indicates that resurrection is an influential theme, so much that he combines it with
his characters to make the novel have a deeper meaning. Being recalled to life or
resurrected is similar to being reborn: In A Tale of Two Cities
, many characters are
reborn , meaning that they have a new chance at life (Dingyuan and Xiaohua, 91).

Visiting Phantom Bodies
Art 1010 Art Appreciation
Visiting Phantom Bodies at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts (919 Broadway)
was one of the most thrilling experiences I have experienced in the recent past. The
exhibition provided me with an excellent opportunity to view countless works of art
by a wide range of artists, an opportunity I treasure especially because I got to learn a
lot from the different works of art available at the center. Phantom Bodies essentially
refers to works of art that take a provocative approach in addressing themes such as
loss, trauma, and transformation, and which aim to demonstrate the possibility that
an animating spirit could potentially exist independently of the body (Frist Center for
the Visual Arts2015). I was most fascinated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, the work engages the mind in a lot and this happens because of the
powerful impact of color and texture, which serves to demonstrate emphasis and
variety, which also occurs because the artist has combined them in a perfectly
symmetrical manner (John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts 2014). The
thoughts relating to the body are powerful to the reader, and they serve to remind the
audience that death is inevitable and that we all have to face it as some point in our
lives. Therefore, the principles of texture and color trigger remembrance especially
because of the numerous repetitions that help to create balance, unity, harmony, and
symmetry (Sayre 2012).
I find this painting to be quite appealing because it evokes many thoughts and
emotions relating to the mind, body, and the soul. More importantly, I find it very
appealing because of its stunning beauty, which mainly happens because the artist
has focused a lot on achieving harmony, unity, balance, and symmetry, all of which
are critical in ensuring excellent art work. The use of butterflies helps to enhance its
appeal. Similarly, the use of different colors and different sizes of butterflies
contributes a lot in creating some form of texture and form that is appealing to the
Boxing Day Earthquake
In the last decade alone, there have been a number of natural disasters that have
caused substantial physical damage and great emotional distress to the people who
were affected. The aftermath of a natural disaster presents many concerns;
communities become displaced, health risks and complications occur, food scarcity
becomes a result of lost crops, and emotional aftershocks become apparent. Some
Haitian s have yet to recover from the earthquake they experienced in 2010. (Davis,
2015) According to FEMA, the total damage for hurricane Katrinais estimated at $108
billion. (CNN News, 2015), and 86,000 lives were taken in the earthquake of
Pakistan in 2005 (EERI, 2006). In 2008, communities of Sichuan, China, endured a
7.9 magnitude earthquake that collapsed several buildings, killing over 87,000
people. Buildings had very poor infrastructures, which caused the destruction of many
local schools. This contributed to the deaths of thousands of school aged children
(BBC News, 2013). However, the Boxing Day tsunami was one of the largest and

230,000 people and leaving over two million people displaced. The epicenter of the
earthquake was located in the Indian Ocean, right off the west coast of Sumatra. The
tectonic plates beneath the ocean floor had been colliding and building up pressure
for hundreds of years, until this day when subduction occurred between the Indian

creating waves that traveled towards the shorelines at hundreds of miles per hour and
as high as sixty to one hundred feet. There was absolutely no warning for the people
of Southeast Asia, as the tsunami progressed quite rapidly. (National Geographic,
Sissela Bok Lying Ethical
Introduction: Sissela Bok s Lying: Moral Choice in Public and Private Life

it is appropriate or inappropriate to lie. Bok s philosophy is unique among many
philosophers in that she takes an approach that recognizes that people will lie and
that there are certain situations in which lying may be warranted or acceptable

this is a more realistic expectation of human society. In this paper, I will examine
Bok s reasoning and apply it to possible situations in my professional career that will
require me to examine my ethical responsibility around lying. In addition to Bok s

Energy Conservation and What We Can Do
Every household within the United States can make realistic changes to improve the
global energy crisis. Homes in the United States expend a significant amount of
natural gas and electricity. Future generations may experience drastic energy
deficiencies if people around the world do not act now and take the necessary
precautions to reduce energy consumption. Family homes consume roughly thirty
eight percent of the total energy consumption per year, which leads problems like
global warming. It is vital, now more than ever, that individuals comprehend how we
deplete energy in a domestic home and what he or she can do to prevent excessive
energy consumption. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keep in mind; there are several other means in which an individual can aid this
decrease in energy consumption. The most collective way is to utilize a furnace. Of
course, one can always use a fireplace, stove, electric resistance heater, or electrically
powered heat pump to warm up the household. Generally, furnaces operate via natural
gas and result in approximately sixty to ninety percent efficiency. Shockingly,
electrical resistant heaters prove to be almost one hundred percent efficient when it
comes to heat production. Unfortunately, this value is not all that accurate in the end
game scheme of things. These heaters consume a vast amount of energy in order to
heat one s home. An individual needs to inspect the efficiency of a heating element
and the amount of energy consumption necessary for operation when considering a
new means to produce household warmth. In fact, electricity is more costly than
natural gas to generate, making electric resistance heaters pricier to maintain. This
energy demand must be included in the total cost of electric resistance heating.
An alternative method to heat one s home, and perhaps my favorite after living in
Chico, is to do so via a fireplace. Yes, a fireplace. A fireplace eliminates the
consumption of natural gas. Instead, the burning of wood fuels a fireplace.
Unfortunately, fireplaces do not prove to be an effective solution for society s
environmental problem. The burning of wood produces

program. My life over the last three years have revolved around attending lectures
and making projects, I know that this has aided me in gaining solid knowledge and
proficient researchskills. During my freshman year at university, I implemented a

was very new to the world of physics and did not have relevant experience and
because of this inexperience, I found that the most complex and challenging part of
the project was coordinating all the C++ Source Files and making sure that they
work together as a Win32 Console Application. To try to resolve these hurdles, I
bombarded myself with books and articles that guided me through the process of
building my desired application, spending 8 days studying in the library during the
summer semester to ensure that I build the best one possible. Although it was very
challenging, I pushed myself to start by programming

I. Introduction:
The Internet is a global public network and it is the Universal source of information.
It has become a popular medium for commercial activities. Millions of dollars of
transactions occur daily in many financial organizations through Internet. The internet
along with digital technologies has taken human life into much higher levels of
sophistication and ease. The growth of Internet has brought about great benefits to
the modern society; meanwhile, the rapidly increasing connectivity and accessibility
to the Internet has posed a security threat. With the tremendous growth of network
based services and sensitive information on networks, network security is getting
more and more import than ever. The attacks on the Internet have become both more
prolific and easier to implement because of the ubiquity of the Internet and the
pervasiveness of easy to use operating systems and development environments.
Data is often the most valuable asset possessed by an organization and it is the main
target of intentional attacks. Data stored, processed, and transmitted by a computer
system must be protected. Business organizations use the internet as an important
aspect of their business model. In addition to using internet applications, such as the
web and email, to generate revenue and communicate with customers, they also store

The Death Of A Toad By Richard Wilbur
Death is final, sudden and yet eternal it yawns before and behind us all. In The
Death of a Toad by Richard Wilbur, he show s his response to death through the final
moments of a toad caught in a lawnmower. He uses imagery to bring attention to each
important detail in the last moments of life while purposefully ignoring others, and
diction, to choose certain words describing its journey after its demise.
Death both ends life and brings it into sharp clarity, for the unfortunate toad what is
brought into clarity is used to demonstrate what is important in death. The actual
cause of death is unimportant to the toad for example, the power mower caught
(Wilbur, line 1) the toad s leg and while it chewed and clipped (Wilbur, line 2) the
actual mower is not described further.
This is because the mechanism of death does not truly matter to the toad or the
author, death is inevitable and the mower is simply accepted as what happened to be
the deliverer to that end.
The next use of imagery is the final glade (Wilbur, line 6) where the toad will come
to rest for the last time. It hops to a place Under the cineraria leaves, in the shade of
the ashen heart shaped leaves (Wilbur, line 45) which is more detailed than anything
before it. More important than the injury or even the machine that eventually kills it
is the final resting place, meaning the location of death and what that location means
to the person dying is more important than the act itself. This is where the toad

professor began to talk more and more about this uncharted territory known as plastic
pollution I never knew plastic was so harmful and what it is doing to our
environment. What I knew then does not compare to what I know now. Everything
that I have included in this research paper stems from what I have learned and the
policies we have in the United States, the state of Texas, and the city of San Antonio.

The Solution: would be to either provide incentivized programs and or tax on plastic,
or leave everything the way it is.
I will attempt to analyze our current use of programs to prevent further plastic
pollution the San Antonio area, and whether or not we stay with the status quo,
implement buyback programs or tax people who want plastic bags.
The defining issue at hand is the increasing plastic presence, the pollution it brings
along with, the disposal we provide, or do not provide. Plastic is going to be one of
the leading issues in the next few years, right next to climate change.
Background: Plastic is made up of carbon, this is a man made product which is
specifically from oil. There were other creations before the discovery of plastic, in
1923 it was the Macintosh and rubber, then in 1839 the company Goodyear
combined rubber and sulfur creating moldable stable substance, this process is
known as vulcanization. In the 1850 s though 1870 s there was the ivory trade and
billiard balls, and in 1909 the create of modern plastics, Bakelite. Then in 1930 we
created the thermoplastic.
There are 7 different type of plastics, polyethylene, polystyrene, polyethylene
terephthalate, polyvinyl chloride, polytetrafluorethylene, polyvinylidene, and
polypropylene. Polyethylene, is the more commonly found plastic, this is our plastic
bags, soda and water bottles, plastic films and their cases, and garbage bags.

The Heat Stress Of Firefighters
Firefighters are subjected to significant levels of physical exertion, exposure to higher
tempera ture environments, and smoke during the firefighting activities. The physical
exertion includes the ability to carry heavy loads, for example oxygen tanks, removal
of fallen building structures, rescue of a victim, etc. To be able to work in such
inhospitable environments, firefighters wear a protective suit, which shields them
from the high temperatures. However, the protective suit re stricts the heatoutflow
from the human bodyto its immediate surroundings. A combination of the physical
load, surroundings with higher temperature, and protective suit leads to heat buildup
within the human body. An unchecked increase in body heat will lead... Show more

Inability to dissipate the heat is detrimental to the fire fighter s health and can result
in heat related illnesses, including heat stroke and may contribute towards sudden
cardiac events.
1.2 Computational whole body model
To suitably dissipate the excess body heat, there are two options: 1) use of cooling
mech anisms, and 2) limiting the duration of the activity, or both. The limit for the
duration of activity can be predicted with the help of algorithms based on
experimental data [4], human body simula tors [5, 6], or computational models [7].
Algorithms are developed based on the average re sponse of the human subjects tested
in controlled environmental simulators. The variations in the local environment are
limited based on the capacity of the experimental setup. Conversely, using a
computational model includes the advantages of: 1) better manipulation of the
human body ge ometry, and 2) the possibility to impose and test unfavorable
boundary conditions such as expo sure to fire. Computational models allow for the
integration of the human thermoregulatory sys tem with a physiologically realistic
geometry to determine the thermal interactions of the model with the environment.
However, the main drawback of the computational models is that their results are
dependent on the quality of input data and boundary conditions. A computational
model that resembles the human body is
The Impact that Physical Education Can Have on

One of the definitions of Physical Education is; regular instruction in physical
exercise and games in schools and other institutions (Oxford English Dictionary). It
is compulsory in the UK for every child up to the age of 16. Physical Education has
been adapted immensely to fit the needs of young people and is still continuing to
change. There are an increasing number of young people leading sedentary lifestyles
by watching television instead of doing physical activity (British Heart Foundation,

the impact that PE can have on encouraging young people to engage in physical
activity.

From 1992 until 2008, the different forms of the National Curriculum for Physical
Education have been focused around the notion of Sport and Performance. There
was a strong emphasis on competition and finding elite performers which may not
be an ideal approach. Many children dislike the competitive element of sport and
would rather take part for personal or social reasons. This wouldn t encourage
young people to sustain physical activity levels as they may not want to compete
and have only seen physical activity in a competitive light. In 2008, the new
National Curriculum was launched and its priority was given to health and
physical activity rather than sport. This reduced the amount of competitive elements
and made it more about taking part. Some would say that the 4th NCPE was seen as

offered in school although it may not be the only factor. Giving young people the
opportunity to set personal goals rather than basing everything around competition
would promote life long participation in physical activity as they will get a sense of
achievement from completing that specific goal. However, this focus on health and

Deception In Memoirs Of A Geisha By Arthur Golden
Thesis:
In the novel, Memoirs of a Geisha, by Arthur Golden the theme of deception is
prominent. Through the deception experienced by Sayuri, golden teaches his readers
that deception can hurt but it can lead to something better.
Methods of development:
Deception from Mr. Tanaka
I couldn t stop thinking about Mr.Tanaka. He had taken me away from my mother
and father, sold me into slavery, sold my sister into something even worse. I had
taken him as a kind man. I thought he was so refined, so worldly. What a stupid
child I had been. I would never go back to Yoroido, I decided. Or if I did , it would
only be to tell Mr. Tanaka how much I hated him. (Golden pg.82)
But the truth is that the afternoon when I met Mr. Tanaka Ichiro really was the best
and worst of my life. (Golden pg.7)
Sayuri admired Mr. Tanaka and wanted to become his adopted daughter, after being
taken away from her home she was extremely hurt and felt stupid for believing in him.
She felt as though her life would never be the same again, and even tried to run away
risking her chances of becoming a Geisha.
Sayuri eventually benefited from this as she herself noticed that living in Gion
allowed her to become much more successful allowing her to take care of herself.
She recognized that if she had remained in Yoroido she would have never been able
to achieve success and that she would still be living in her little tipsy house with little
to support herself.
Coming to Gion is also the reason she meet the

ESOURCING STRATEGY AT SUN MICROSYSTEMS
Introduction
op yo In May 2000, Sonia Syngal, director of procurement strategy and supplier
relations at Sun
Microsystems, needed to make a critical decision. Under Sonia s leadership, the
company had just completed its first dynamic bidding pilot tests and as a result, cut
its sourcing costs by 30 percent. Given these results, the potential for cost cutting via
the implementation of a dynamic bidding system on a widespread scale at Sun was
enormous; on an annual basis, the company was currently spending about $9 billion
in direct materials procurement.

Sonia reported directly to Kevin Caroll, and led a 35 person team responsible for the
development of
Sun s procurement strategy. (Exhibits 1) Sonia was responsible for driving an
overall strategy behind the procurement of all of Sun s direct materials. She was
also responsible for delivering key technological tools that would support Sun s
overall procurement process and the activities of Sun s global commodity directors.
(Exhibit 2) According to Sonia, My goal is to have Sun be the best in class in
supplier management compared to any metric. It is my job to ensure that we have

ENGLISH
The Taming of the Shrew , is one of William Shakespeare s most celebrated works
in history and is known to be one of his most comedic pieces of literature. With its
lighthearted sense of a late 1500 s Elizabethan era work, the famous play showed
many relevant ideologies of society according to its particular era in history. Many
of Shakespeare s works have been adapted into successful films that were made to
suit the society of a new and different age, for example, his piece The Taming of the
Shrew , has been formed into several films and short films. In my opinion, it just
shows that Shakespeare s writings are still relevant today and forever will be timeless.
The most famous remakes of the of the 1500 s play, were Gil Junger s 1999
adaptation 10 Things I Hate About You, and Franco Zeffirelli s 1967 version of The
Taming of the Shrew . Both films show elements of similar society ideologies, such
as masculinity and femininity which are portrayed through the main characters;
Katherine, Kat, Petruchio and Patrick. Some characters show signs of severe
misogynistic characteristics, for example, as the dominant Petruchio tames the
dominant Katherine until she is submissive. To help corroborate with this is the
quote For I am be born to tame you Kate, And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate.

Let It Go Parody
Let It Brew Up Some Laughter Let It Go is a popular song from Disney s Frozen,
which is about a girl named Anna who searches for her sister, Elsa, to break the
spell of a perpetual winter she has cast on her kingdom. Elsa sings Let It Go after
years of fretting what others would think if they found out about her dangerous,
magical powers. Let It Brew is only one of many parodies of Let It Go that exist
because Frozen is such a well known movie. The parodies typically reflect on some
dramatic event which exaggerates the minor struggles teens and young adults
experience in America. For example, a college student changed the lyrics to express
her stress that comes from finals week. Another young girl changed the words to be

[It] has obvious affinities for the author s attitude toward his work, the way he felt,
what made him write (Beardsley and Wimsatt Jr.). I utilized the idea of intentional
fallacy in the creation of my parody by assuming my audience was familiar with Let
it Go and Starbucks terms. My diction throughout the song is thus intentional because
I wrote it in the exact way I thought would make people laugh. Moreover, my
targeted audience is intentional because I assume the reader would know the original
song. With this assumption, I also predict that my audience will find humor in the
parody since the song will elicit laughter if and only if the audience recognizes the

Socrates Virtues Of The City
Socrates believes every city and person has virtues within them, and it is the proper
balance of the virtues that results in justice. The virtues of a city, Socrates mentions
are, wisdom, courage, temperance and justice. He claims justice is the balance of all
three virtues with everybody playing their proper role in society. The first virtuehe
examines is wisdom. Wisdom, Socratessay s resides in the smallest class, the Rulers,
because they posses the knowledge, ...which takes measures, not in behalf of
anything in the city, but in behalf of the city as a whole... (Republic, 428d). The next
virtue Socrates examines is, courage which he defines as the knowledge of what to
fear. Courage he explains lies with the auxiliaries because they must... Show more

Moderation, he explains is the maintenance of the balance of powers within the
city, which results from the separation of the classes, and everybody in each class
doing what they were meant to do. Justice in a city is virtue in the city arising from
the prescence of three virtues... (Republic, 427e). The proper balance in a city of
wisdom, courage and temperance results in justice, the last virtue. Socrates
definition of justice in the city state and in the individual are analogous. He claims
that just as the are three virtues to the just city, there are three parts to the just
individual, and it is the balance of these parts that results this just individual. The
three parts of the just person, Socrates believes are, wisdom, appetite and the spirit
or active part of the soul. Wisdom, like the rulers, is the smallest part of the soul,
and guide of reason in each person. Spirit, or the active part of the soul, pushes the
body into action to obtain its desires, and represents the auxiliaries of a city. The
last part of the soul, appetite, consists of the desires or passions found in the iron or
bronze class, such as money hunger and possession. Like the iron or bronze class in
a city, this is also the largest part of

Leisure Development In Western Civilization
Part 1: Favorite leisure period: My favorite period about leisure development in
Western Civilization is the Playground Movement, due to the fact that churches
rediscovered the value of recreational activities for kids outside of their homes.
(Dimension of Leisure for Life, page 127). As described in out textbook, both
parents were working from full time to eighteen hours day and their children were
wondering around without sense; for sure they were learning bad habits and being
in contact with people older than their ages. This period appeals to me, because my
nuclear family directly benefitted, by having access to neighborhood playgrounds.
My parents, and later myself clearly recall how much they enjoyed going as a
family to community playgrounds. Soon enough, people came around selling some
food, little gifts, water and soda pop, which children enjoyed with their families. I
like this period, because it brought families closer. Families in our neighborhood also
began to have picnics and extended families gatherings. Moreover, children enjoyed
their weekends breathing fresh air, playing games, and... Show more content on

The Scarcity Of Water Crisis
The water crisis has been known in the world for many years now, but as time goes
on people have not realized the greater effect this has had on the world. Most
people who know about the crisis do not know the regions it affects and frankly
seem to not care unless it affects them directly. The shortages of water have led to
health concerns and money problems in many countries. Both of these factors
correlate because if health problems go up so does the economic issue. India has
been one of the regions hit badly with the recent depletion of water. It has many small
cities that people have never heard about, that suffer much greater than this country as
a whole. The overpopulation in India is not helping solve the scarcity of water and

Rural cities in India, for example in Chennai, suffer from clean and properly
treated water, although the government may be helping a little. Factual evidence
states, although piped water facility in the rural regions almost doubled in past two
decades, there are still 171 million people in rural regions who use surface water as
the primary source of water (Kuberan 3). Water shortages are a far bigger concern
and if that many people suffer in small city, what about the rest of the country?
Although many rural cities do have water filter systems, the growing population is
not supported by the amount of water and they have to settle to different time zones
to get water. One city may not get water until midnight while another only gets it at 8
am. As stated in a poll, Water supplytiming was the biggest challenge faced by the
majority (94%) of the people (Kuberan 3). The timings of the water can make it
harder to survive because some people may need water during the day but may only
get it at night. The lack of any water in India is a major reason that India, compared
to many countries is suffering the most.
In addition to not getting any water, India suffers from commercialization and
privatization of water companies that are trying to make more of a profit on an
already low income country. Many companies are trying to set water at price to

the device was modeled with the same hardiness. Due to the introduction of
nonlinear loads into the power systems pollution has obtained .Still;the present level

Summary Of Making A Fist By Naomi Shihab Nye
In the poem Making a Fist by Naomi Shihab Nye, Nye uses metaphors to convey
the meaning of mental and physical strength. For example, Nye uses the metaphor
A drum in the desert, harder and harder to hear (3). The drum refers to a heart,
continuing to beat, even though I [she] felt the life is slipping out of me (2). Nye
uses this metaphor of comparing a drum and a heart to convey how as the heart
beats, the body stays alive. This is similar to how as a drum beats, the music
continues to play. The drum is the center of a musical piece, keeping the flow of all
the other instruments in check, just as how the heart is the main source of blood to
the body, keeping it alive. Additionally, in stanza two, Nye s asks How do you know

Comparing Sucrose And Non-Reducing Sugars
There are exceptions to conducting this test. For example, non reducing sugars
such as sucrose cannot be detected using the Benedict s test (Mrothery, 2004). In
order for non reducing sugars to be tested with a Benedict reagent, hydrochloric
acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) must be placed into the solution before
adding a Benedict reagent (Mrothery, 2004). As a result, sucrose (C12H22O11),
made up of two monosaccharides or two carbonyl carbons, is hydrolysed and broken
down its glyosidic bond to form glucoseand fructose or one carbonyl carbon when
heated (Ausetute, 2014 and Chem Guide, 2010) (see Appendix 4). The sodium
hydroxide then neutralises the solution to ensure a positive Benedict Test (Chem
Guide, 2010).

Unix And Unix Operating System
6.4 C DOT DSS MAX is administrated by UNIX operating system
BSNL C DOT DSS MAX uses UNIX operating system to operate the exchange.
The UNIX operating system is a set of programs that act as a link between the
computer and the user. The computer programs that allocate the system resources and
coordinate all the details of the computer s internals is called the operating system or
kernel.
Users communicate with the kernel through a program known as the shell. The shell
is a command line interpreter it translates commands entered by the user and converts
them into a language that is understood by the kernel.
UNIX was originally developed in 1969 by a group of AT T employees at Bell Labs,
including Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, Douglas McIlroy, and Joe Ossanna.
There are various UNIX variants available in the market. Solaris UNIX, AIX, HP
UNIX and BSD are few examples.
Several people can use a UNIX computer at the same time; hence UNIX is called a
multiuser system. A user can also run multiple programs at the same time; hence
UNIX is called multitasking. This is why BSNL uses UNIX operating system as the
exchanges can be operated through a remote area.
UNIX operating system provides various commands to operate embedded systems in

The commands used in C DOT DSS MAX UNIX operating system are broadly
divided into two categories
1. Administration command classes

Transmitting Data Within Locations With Sporadic...
Transmitting data in locations with sporadic connectivity is a huge challenge. The
Select Bipartisan Committee that investigated the Hurricane Katrina concluded that
communication provides a critical path for relief in emergency and disaster
situations. It was observed that the rescue efforts as well as the command and control
awareness, was greatly affected by severe network failures and interoperability issues.
This paper aims at analysing the requirements of such a network and suggests a
completely wireless communication solution that can be deployed reliably. In the
event of a catastrophic disaster, whether natural or man made, the efficiency of rescue
teams and disaster response operations is very critical to life saving. Unfortunately,
communication systems, including cellular networks, may be partially or completely
comprised which render the emergency districts disconnected to the outside world.
Thus, the increase in the survival rate requires breaking of the communication
bottleneck. It is imperative that the communication network employed in a disaster
affected area is highly resilient and robust to further damages. The network will be
primarily used to communicate to the control rooms to provide and receive regular
updates and additional requirements for personnel or machinery and warnings of any
imminent dangers. The network would also serve to send warning messages to the
people in the affected area. Emergency telecommunication systems need to deploy

Deontological Code Of Ethics Essay
1.Define the term ethics. Ethics is the study of human behavior and the morality of
each individual. 2.Define the terms deontology (deontological approach) and
teleology (teleological approach). Deontology: is the act of doing the right thing no
matter what the consequences are. For example, if an individual has a family
member that killed someone then, it is his/her duty to go against the family member
to say the truth. Even though it is bad to go against a family member, according to
the deontological approach, it is doing the right thing. This individual is doing the
right thing because he/she is not hiding anything, he/she is being truthful, and he/she
is being honest. Teleology: is the act of doing the right thing depending what the...

The goal of this theory is to eliminate suffering amongst everyone. This ethical
theory is different to Kant s ethical theory by the way utilitarianism is more
towards the happiness route, while Kant s theory is more towards following the
moral rules. Kant s ethical theory is not about maximizing happiness or pleasing
anyone. This theory is more about acting and doing things the moral way such as
duties that are morally right. 4. Compare rule utilitarianism with act utilitarianism.
Rule utilitarianism is compared to act utilitarianism by the way it promotes
happiness. A rule utilitarian is concerned more with the rule, yet by pleasing
people. On the other hand, act utilitarianism is concerned with individual acts. For
example, being honest to an individual will generate happiness. 5. Contrast a right
with a duty and a right with a privilege. A right is a form of freedom and liberty.
This allows people to have rights and to be able to do certain things. On the other
hand, a duty is an act that has to be done. This is not done from an individual
perspective it is done through obligation and respect to the moral
Julius Caesar the True Tragic Hero
Aristotle once said A man doesn t become a hero until he can see the root of his
own downfall. These words best describe what a Tragic Hero is and both Julius
Caesar and Brutus displayed this characteristic, so the question is Who is the real
tragic hero in this story? This paper shall explore the reasons behind why each man
is considered a hero in his own right and who the rightful owner to the title of the
play truly belongs to. There have been countless tragic heroes in the works of

Another example of Brutus fatal flaw was when he allowed Antony to stay alive and
not be murdered by the conspirators, he trusted Antony to the extent of allowing him
to speak to the crowd after Caesar s death, which gave Antony the opportunity to let
slip the true cause of Julius Caesar s death and ultimately led to Anthony s demise.
Brutus then gets run out of town and eventually loses everything he cherished
most, more than anything when his wife Portia commits suicide due to her being
unable to handle all the stress that was caused by her husband and the conspiracy
as a whole. He would then take over the conspiracy, much to Cassius shock who
only asked Brutus to join the conspiracy as a way of getting closer to Caesar but as
Cassius had lost his position as the head man he no longer had any say in the
decisions of the conspiracy. Brutus tragic realization of the effects of the conspiracy
and the death of Caesar occur to him the moment he sees Caesar s ghost right before
the war in Philippi discovering, in an ironic twist that his killing of Caesar has not
bettered Rome but rather it has made the roman situation deteriorate. During the
battle of Philippi, Brutus decides to commit suicide due to his inner conflict
concluding his life with words that prove his remorse and guilt: Caesar now be still/ I
The Strawberry Fields By Eric Schlosser
Bethany Beaudoin
Professor Byrne
English 1510

Farmers and Their Fields
Strawberries are treasured by numerous throughout the world, but feelings may
transformation after the unveiling of some dark secrets of strawberry farms. In
the Strawberry Fields by Eric Schlosser brings up many concerning realities about
what life is truly like for strawberry pickers. Many of these farm workers are illegal
migrants from Mexico. Because of their illegal status, they are far less probable to
go to the authorities with complaints of unfair treatment. Many strawberry field
owners are more than willing to take advantage of this. Strawberry pickers are often
overworked, poorly paid, and not treated fairly. Most are Mexicans searching for
work so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These Mexican workers will work strenuously in hopes of earning more money, yet
despite the extra hours of labor, their income hardly increases. This unfair
treatment is far too common for workers such as these. On average, a strawberry
picker works 12 hours a day. Not only is this considered working overtime, it is
also extremely strenuous on one s body. Bending down low to pick the faultless
strawberries is challenging for anyone, and hours of this can be tremendously
painful. When forced to work like that several days a week for months at a time,
permanent spinal impairment is common. Overworked, underpaid, and all around
mistreated, these field workers deserve better treatment. Improved living
environments could possibly come about merely by reasonable salaries. If everyone
got paid the accurate amount for the work accomplished, money would not be such a
struggle. It may not pay well, but minimum wage would be sufficient to at least help
workers find places to live. The demanding hours and low pay makes life far more
challenging than it ought to be. Paying less than minimum wage brings the greatest
savings of all (Schlosser). While paying less than minimum wage saves the farm
owners money, it turns these poor migrants work into something that is nearly slave
labor. Often, Spanish speaking workers will sign an English contract, even though
they comprehend nothing about it. While this may benefit the owners, it is cruel and
unfair
The Yield Spread Of A Corporate Bond And A
Comparable...
2. Literature review
The yield spread is defined as the difference between the yield on a corporate bond
and a comparable government bond. Prior to a study done by Merton (1974) yield
spreads were considered to be mainly driven by expected default losses on corporate
bonds, tax premiums and risk premiums (Radier et al, 2015). However, Merton
(1974) and more recent research has shown that factors such as equity volatility,
liquidity, interest rate levels and the slope of the treasury term structure are also
significant factors in determining changes in the yield spread (Radier et al, 2013;
Lepone Wong, 2009; Peter Grandes, 2007; Collin Dufresne, Goldstein Martin, 2001).
2.1 Equity Volatility
One of the three factors which Merton (1974) found to be a significant determinant
of the yield spread was the probability of default as indicated by the firm specific
equity volatility on the stock market. Merton (1974) predicted a positive relationship
between equity volatility and the yield spread. According to Merton (1974), a short
put option on the equity of a company is equivalent to a corporate bond issued by that
company. This means that any individual corporate bond yield should have a positive
relationship with the equity value of the firm (Jubinski Lipton, 2012).
Radier et al (2015); Hibbert et al (2011); Campbell Taksler (2004) all find evidence
supporting Merton (1974) s prediction of a positive relationship. Radier et al (2015)
is the only one of these studies
The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Analysis
World war II in Germany was a dull time for the Jews, hence they were
discriminated against by the germans. Ethnicity plays a big role in this movie
because it is the reason that the Jews are locked away in the concentration camps.
The movie is a representation of Political Power becomes Personal Authority
(Nichols, 2010, P.275) in the sense that Aldorf Hitler took advantage of the
vulnerable Jews. This essay will discuss the differences between the Jews and
Germans during WW II through race and ethnicity. This will be supported from
examples in the two scenes chosen, book vocabulary, as well as the formal and
social content to analyze the scenes. The movie The boy in the Striped Pajamas: is
about an 8 year old, privileged German boy named Bruno, who loves exploring, is
forced to move away from Berlin with his family to the Countryside during World
War II. This is because, his father has just gotten promoted to Commandment by
Hitler himself and was asked to live closer to the concentration camps. Bruno starts
exploring the new area, and soon finds this barbed wired area where he meets a
Jewish boy named Shmuel. Shmuel is held in the concentration camps, however
Bruno does not find out the truth until the near end of the movie. Bruno and Shmuel
form an undesirable bond that later in the movie causes many tragical events.
Throughout the two scenes I have chosen to discuss, there are some similarities. First
and foremost, these similarities include, the main idea of
The Impact of Globalisation on the Australian Economy
The Impact of Globalisation on the Australian Economy Globalisation is not new.
Australia has been involved in trade, investment, financial flows, technology transfers
and the migration of labour since its foundation as a colony. What has changed is the
size, direction and influence of these transfers, especially since 1980. There are a
number of factors that have aided this transformation. They include: В•The expansion
of new markets В– foreign exchange and capital markets are linked globally. They
operate 24 hours a day with dealings any where in the world possible in real time.
Financial deregulation and the floating of the Australian dollar since 1983 intensified
the impact of globalisation on the Australian economy. В•New... Show more content

Table 1: The Effects of Cutting Protection in Manufacturing in Australia Source:
Productivity Commission The impact of globalisation has also changed the
structure of Australia s trade. There has been considerable growth in manufacturing
and service industries with limited growth in the rural sector (Table 2). This
reflects a combination of changes in world demand and domestic structural
reforms. Table 2: Annual Growth in Exports, by Sector, 1985 86 to 1995 96.

The spread of globalisation especially since 1990 has introduced many new
elements into the financial markets and what determines the value of a nation s
exchange rate. This does not just apply to Australia, but as we saw in the later half
of the 1990 s, to many other nations in the world. Firstly, trade in goods and services
makes up a much smaller proportion of the demand and supply for currency. In the
world economy, payments for international trade only account for about 1% of
foreign exchange transactions. The total foreign exchange requirements for exporting
and importing of goods and services in Australia is less than 3% of the total use of the
foreign exchange turnover in Australian dollars (Reserve Bank Bulletin, Table F7 and
Australian National Accounts, 5206.0). The main purpose for foreign exchange
trading is international financial transfers of
Pros And Cons Of Ground Water
California Groundwater: A Growing Debate Should one be able to use water from
under their own property? A law has been introduced that will regulate the pumping
of groundwater. That is, people will not be able to pump water from under their
property. The law that says citizens cannot pump water from under their property
should be regulated. People are taking too much water from under the ground that is
not theirs. You ve got to put reasonable restrictions so people are only pumping out a
reasonable amount of water that underlies their land (Source three). Farmers are
taking more water than they need for their land away from other citizens. Without the
law being introduced, people can take as much water as they want. They can
What Are The Strength And Weaknesses Of Mining
Industry In...
3.Not all the Glitters are Gold: The strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of
the Philippine Mining Industry.
Strengths and Opportunities
Mining gives people some of the resources needed for modern civilization and job
opportunities
Humans need a wide range of natural resources to create the products needed by the
modern civilization at the same time job opportunities. While alternative forms of
energy are becoming more viable, most nations need coal, natural gas, and uranium to
provide energy. Similarly, oil is necessary for powering vehicles and the transportation
industry. Mining allows humans to use these resources.
The mining industry sector is a major backbone of the Philippine economy. The long
history of the industry has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because coal and oil release carbon dioxide when used as fuel, some argue that
mining exacerbates global warming. Others object to mining for the rare Earth
elements essential to computer parts. However, almost all experts of all political
and moral stripes believe that mining will be necessary for decades but that slowly
phasing it out might be a wise goal.
4. Social Entrepreneurship: Going Beyond Providing Jobs for Every Juan.
Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative solutions to society s most
pressing social problems. They are ambitious and persistent, tackling major social
issues and offering new ideas for wide scale change.
Each social entrepreneur presents ideas that are user friendly, understandable,
ethical, and engage widespread support in order to maximize the number of local
people that will stand up, seize their idea, and implement it. In other words, every
leading social entrepreneur is a mass recruiter of local change makers a role model
proving that citizens who channel their passion into action can do almost anything.
Social entrepreneurs often seem to be possessed by their ideas, committing their lives
to changing the direction of their field. They are both visionaries and ultimate
realists, concerned with the practical implementation of their vision above all
The Importance Of The Cochlear Implants
The cochlear implant is quite possibly one of the greatest ideas invented to benefit the
deaf community. American Sign Language (ASL) has been the main way the deaf
communicate and is extremely important to the deaf culture. To those that can hear,
being deaf or profoundly hard of hearing has been considered a handicap. It was for
that reason that someone invented the cochlear implant, causing a huge debate within
the deaf community. Some of those in the deaf community fear that their culture
will be lost and destroyed, while others and the hearing community believe that it
will better their lives. Most do not realize that this procedure is not a cure and that
it will leave those with the implants confused as to where they belong in society.
There are quite a few who believe the cochlear implants work just like the hearing
aid, only implanted in their head. However, there are significant differences between
the two. Cochlear implants do not restore normal hearing, whereas the use of hearing
aids can bring it close to normal. Hearing aids send amplified sound to the damaged
cochlea, and can be programmed to shape amplification of sound to match the
hearing loss. Hearing aids are very limited in their ability to aid severe and profound
hearing loss beyond environmental sound and vowels in... Show more content on

Cochlear implants are made up of four different parts: microphone, speech processor,
transmitter receiver/stimulator, and the electrode array. The microphone picks up
sounds from the environment. The speech processor selects and arranges sounds
from the microphone. The transmitter receiver/stimulator receives signals from the
speech processor and converts them into electrode impulses. The electrode array is a
group of electrodes that collect the impulses from the stimulator and sends them to
different regions of the auditory

Topics To Write A Argumentative Essay On

  • 1. Topics To Write A Argumentative Essay On Writing an essay on the topic "Topics to Write an Argumentative Essay On" may initially seem like a straightforward task, but navigating through the vast landscape of potential subjects can prove to be a challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies not in the act of composing the essay itself, but rather in the process of selecting a specific argumentative topic from the multitude of options available. Firstly, one must consider the relevance and significance of the chosen topic. It is essential to pick a subject that not only aligns with personal interests but also holds broader societal importance. This initial step requires thorough research and critical thinking to identify issues that are both current and debatable. Once a suitable topic is identified, the challenge intensifies with the need to develop a compelling thesis statement. Crafting a clear and concise argument that effectively conveys the essay's purpose and stance demands a keen understanding of the chosen subject matter. This involves delving into the nuances of the topic, evaluating different perspectives, and formulating a thesis that is both assertive and defensible. The research phase adds another layer of complexity. Gathering credible sources, statistics, and supporting evidence to substantiate the argument requires time and meticulous effort. Proper citation and adherence to academic standards further contribute to the intricate nature of the essay-writing process. Organizing the essay structure becomes a crucial aspect of the challenge. Effectively presenting the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion in a logical sequence demands skillful planning and execution. Ensuring a smooth flow of ideas and maintaining coherence throughout the essay is a task that demands both creativity and precision. Moreover, the argumentative nature of the essay implies a need to address counterarguments. Anticipating opposing views and incorporating rebuttals adds a layer of complexity, requiring a thorough understanding of the subject from multiple perspectives. In conclusion, while the act of essay writing itself may not be inherently difficult, the challenge lies in the intricate process of selecting a compelling topic, crafting a strong thesis, conducting thorough research, and presenting a well-organized argument. It is a task that demands intellectual rigor, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. For those seeking assistance with such endeavors, it's worth noting that similar essays and a myriad of writing services are available. Platforms like HelpWriting.net offer support in crafting well-researched and expertly written essays on a variety of topics, helping individuals navigate the challenges of academic writing. • 2. Evaluate Gm s Currency Hedging Policies Essay 3. Evaluate GM s currency hedging policies. [3 pages] {Gavin} {Ryan} The issue here may lie with the 50% to 75% hedge as it is doubtful as to why GM does not hedge its receivables / payables by 100%. Perhaps the issue is related to high costs of using options and their receivables / payables run into huge amounts. Additionally, GM is not keen on committing to a forward because they have positive expectations about the future exchange rate and the forward would only serve to limit their possible gains. Inherency: Does the plan exist in the status quo (the way things are now), and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However by paying a small premium for an option, GM would be able to preserve the upside of any exposure. This is because an option gives them the right to choose whether to exercise it or not upon maturity. Hence, if the CAD dollar weakens against the USD, GM s large Canadian assets and liabilities and payables owed to Canadian suppliers would weaken considerably. GM could then choose to exercise the option for a better exchange rate. Conversely, if the CAD dollar strengthens, then GM would choose not to exercise the option as their cash flows denominated in Canadian dollar is now worth more compared to the USD. The level of risk adverseness plays a huge role because GM may be inclined to hedge all exposure using a forward if they are highly risk adverse. On the other hand, GM may be willing to pay a premium for an option to ensure the still receive the upside if they are not so risk adverse. This links to expectations on future spot rates and how GM anticipates the CAD to fluctuate vis Г vis the USD in the coming months. If GM anticipates future spot rates of CAD/USD to weaken, it would prefer to buy a forward and the reverse holds true as well. After conduction an analysis, it shows that the fluctuations in exchange rate could cause a lot of trouble for GM. Hence, it reverts back to the issue of GM s expectations of the future spot exchange rate. From this, they can then determine which hedging method is more

This onslaught of financial difficulties, which had been created largely by the Gulf War and the Canadian recession, increased Air Canada s losses increased at worrisome rates. Then, after suffering losses upwards of $218 million in 1991, the Board of Directors recognized the need for a corporate overhaul and consequently appointed Hollis Harris as the Chief Executive Officer the following year. Harris, a 37 year veteran in the highly competitive American airlineindustry, was given the challenging task of returning the struggling airline to profitability. When he was appointed, many Canadians were outraged that an American would lead a privatized Canadian company and feared this decision to be a step towards the impending Americanization of the Canadian culture. Others speculated that Harris was appointed for the sole purpose of training and mentoring Air Canada s future leader . However, these individuals were all proven wrong when Harris transformed the reeling airline into a leading competitor in the global airline industry. His American background, which was condemned by many, played a significant role in the expanding Air Canada s international reach. His experience in the aviation sector combined with his extraordinary leadership skills, helped reduce costs and placed Air Canada on the path to financial recovery. Finally,

Potato Osmolarity Lab Estimating the osmolarity of potato tissues by immersing potato rectangles RQ: How will the weight of potato tubers immersed into sucrose solutions with different change after 24 hours? Osmosis is the remaining action of water across a semipermable membrane from an area with low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration. Osmosis is for instance an important process, which often happens at the same time that solutes transport or diffuse. Hypotonic, hypertonic and isotonic are as long as solutes that cannot cross the membrane of a cell. Hyptonic has lower osmolarity than the fluid inside the cell, which means the net flow of water, will be inside the cell. Hypertonic is when the extracellular fluid has a higher osmolarity ... • 5. Why A Venue Should Be Banned Essay Introduction Police, venue and court banning orders are used in Queensland and other Australian states to address violence in and around licenced premises. These banning orders in Australia are intended to ban disorderly and/or violent patrons from licensed premises. There are three types of bans that can be imposed; police imposed bans, court imposed bans, and venue imposed bans. These three bans differ in a number of ways, and have different strengths and weaknesses regarding how well they work. They also relate to different social theories including, deterrence theory, and rational choice theory; all of which will be explored throughout this presentation. Court Court imposed bans can be issued for a number of reasons, most commonly to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Venue Licensed venues are also able to impose bans on violent or disorderly patrons. However, unlike police and court issued bans, the ban I only applicable to that specific venue (or if the venue is a part of a chain, it can be applied to all the chain venues). This also differs from police and court issued bans, as a police or court issued ban can enforce any venue to ban the offender, however, venue issuing banning has no control over other venues. Once again, the duration of the ban differs to police or court bans, instead it is up to the specific venue to decide upon the length of the ban. Due to this, it is possible for a venue to impose an indefinite ban on an offender if they so choose. It is also important to note that these bans cannot be discriminatory and be based of prejudices. Theories There are two main social theories that relate to court, venue and police issued bans in Australia; these being rational choice theory, and deterrence theory. These two theories often work together, and rely on punishment based judgements. Rational choice theory makes the assumption that people are rational, and therefore they will make rational decisions. This theory suggests that when making a decision, people will take into account incentives and benefits, versus the risks, such as punishments. If the risk outweighs the benefit, then rational choice theory
  • 6. Historical Significance of Eleanor Rigby Overview A song by Beatles, Eleanor Rigby was released simultaneously on the album Revolver in the year 1966 as well as on a 45 rpm single. Primarily, the song was written by Paul McCartney and was dedicated to Lennon McCartney (Miles, 1997). George Martin did a great job at making a string quartet arrangement. The striking lyrics about loneliness along with the arrangement transformed the kind of songs from what were mostly pop oriented to the kind that were studio based. There is no second opinion about the fact that this song made a dent in the conventions of the popular music; both in terms of lyrics and music (Campbell and Bondy, 2008). Pertaining to the fates and concerns of the elderly that are mostly neglected, Richie Unterberger has said that this is one of the main reasons why Beatles have been able to catch the attention of people who are beyond the traditional rock audience (Unterberger, 2013). Historical Significance This song also has a historical connotation since there is a gravestone by the name of Eleanor Rigby in St. Peter s Churchyard that is situated in Woolton, United Kingdom. It should be noted that Woolton is a suburb of the city of Liverpool and this is where Lennon and McCartney first met during a fete at St. Peter s Church. According to the gravestone that bears the name of Eleanor, she died at the age of 44 in the year 1939. Nonetheless, Eleanor is not the kind of lonely people that the Beatles have stressed upon in their song as she was

Resurrection In A Tale Of Two Cities Kaylee Gilkeyson Mr. Rowe World Literature 29 March 2018 A Tale of Resurrection in Two Cities A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens incorporates many themes, one being resurrection. This theme is used time and time again in the novel. Resurrection is revealed not only in the characters, but in the culture of the book itself. Dickens indicates that resurrection is an influential theme, so much that he combines it with his characters to make the novel have a deeper meaning. Being recalled to life or resurrected is similar to being reborn: In A Tale of Two Cities , many characters are reborn , meaning that they have a new chance at life (Dingyuan and Xiaohua, 91). Visiting Phantom Bodies Art 1010 Art Appreciation Visiting Phantom Bodies at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts (919 Broadway) was one of the most thrilling experiences I have experienced in the recent past. The exhibition provided me with an excellent opportunity to view countless works of art by a wide range of artists, an opportunity I treasure especially because I got to learn a lot from the different works of art available at the center. Phantom Bodies essentially refers to works of art that take a provocative approach in addressing themes such as loss, trauma, and transformation, and which aim to demonstrate the possibility that an animating spirit could potentially exist independently of the body (Frist Center for the Visual Arts2015). I was most fascinated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the work engages the mind in a lot and this happens because of the powerful impact of color and texture, which serves to demonstrate emphasis and variety, which also occurs because the artist has combined them in a perfectly symmetrical manner (John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts 2014). The thoughts relating to the body are powerful to the reader, and they serve to remind the audience that death is inevitable and that we all have to face it as some point in our lives. Therefore, the principles of texture and color trigger remembrance especially because of the numerous repetitions that help to create balance, unity, harmony, and symmetry (Sayre 2012). I find this painting to be quite appealing because it evokes many thoughts and emotions relating to the mind, body, and the soul. More importantly, I find it very appealing because of its stunning beauty, which mainly happens because the artist has focused a lot on achieving harmony, unity, balance, and symmetry, all of which are critical in ensuring excellent art work. The use of butterflies helps to enhance its appeal. Similarly, the use of different colors and different sizes of butterflies contributes a lot in creating some form of texture and form that is appealing to the

Boxing Day Earthquake In the last decade alone, there have been a number of natural disasters that have caused substantial physical damage and great emotional distress to the people who were affected. The aftermath of a natural disaster presents many concerns; communities become displaced, health risks and complications occur, food scarcity becomes a result of lost crops, and emotional aftershocks become apparent. Some Haitian s have yet to recover from the earthquake they experienced in 2010. (Davis, 2015) According to FEMA, the total damage for hurricane Katrinais estimated at $108 billion. (CNN News, 2015), and 86,000 lives were taken in the earthquake of Pakistan in 2005 (EERI, 2006). In 2008, communities of Sichuan, China, endured a 7.9 magnitude earthquake that collapsed several buildings, killing over 87,000 people. • 11. Sissela Bok Lying Ethical Introduction: Sissela Bok s Lying: Moral Choice in Public and Private Life focuses around the ethical implications around lying and examines situations when it is appropriate or inappropriate to lie. Bok s philosophy is unique among many philosophers in that she takes an approach that recognizes that people will lie and that there are certain situations in which lying may be warranted or acceptable depending on the situation at hand and who is responsible for lying. I believe that this is a more realistic expectation of human society. In this paper, I will examine Bok s reasoning and apply it to possible situations in my professional career that will require me to examine my ethical responsibility around lying. • 12. Energy Conservation And What We Can Do Kris Gilmour August 14, 2015 GEOS 330 Energy Conservation and What We Can Do Every household within the United States can make realistic changes to improve the global energy crisis. Homes in the United States expend a significant amount of natural gas and electricity. Future generations may experience drastic energy deficiencies if people around the world do not act now and take the necessary precautions to reduce energy consumption. Family homes consume roughly thirty eight percent of the total energy consumption per year, which leads problems like global warming. It is vital, now more than ever, that individuals comprehend how we deplete energy in a domestic home and what he or she can do to prevent excessive energy consumption. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keep in mind; there are several other means in which an individual can aid this decrease in energy consumption. The most collective way is to utilize a furnace. Of course, one can always use a fireplace, stove, electric resistance heater, or electrically powered heat pump to warm up the household. Generally, furnaces operate via natural gas and result in approximately sixty to ninety percent efficiency. Shockingly, electrical resistant heaters prove to be almost one hundred percent efficient when it comes to heat production. Unfortunately, this value is not all that accurate in the end game scheme of things. These heaters consume a vast amount of energy in order to heat one s home. An individual needs to inspect the efficiency of a heating element and the amount of energy consumption necessary for operation when considering a new means to produce household warmth. In fact, electricity is more costly than natural gas to generate, making electric resistance heaters pricier to maintain. This energy demand must be included in the total cost of electric resistance heating. An alternative method to heat one s home, and perhaps my favorite after living in Chico, is to do so via a fireplace. Yes, a fireplace. A fireplace eliminates the consumption of natural gas. Instead, the burning of wood fuels a fireplace. Unfortunately, fireplaces do not prove to be an effective solution for society s environmental problem. The burning of wood produces

Began my journey into the field by studying in Physics and Microelectronics department of Hunan University, where physics ranks in the top 1% of ESI global discipline. Studying on this topic, which I am very much interested in, led me to excel in my program, earning me a GPA of 90.3 on a 100 point scale, which ranked me as the top student out of the 112 who are in my program. My life over the last three years have revolved around attending lectures and making projects, I know that this has aided me in gaining solid knowledge and proficient researchskills. During my freshman year at university, I implemented a system based on C programming language of student cards, which is was suitable for consumption and helped the system with complete functions. During this time, I was very new to the world of physics and did not have relevant experience and because of this inexperience, I found that the most complex and challenging part of the project was coordinating all the C++ Source Files and making sure that they work together as a Win32 Console Application. To try to resolve these hurdles, I bombarded myself with books and articles that guided me through the process of building my desired application, spending 8 days studying in the library during the summer semester to ensure that I build the best one possible. With the tremendous growth of network based services and sensitive information on networks, network security is getting more and more import than ever. The attacks on the Internet have become both more prolific and easier to implement because of the ubiquity of the Internet and the pervasiveness of easy to use operating systems and development environments. Data is often the most valuable asset possessed by an organization and it is the main target of intentional attacks. Data stored, processed, and transmitted by a computer system must be protected. Business organizations use the internet as an important aspect of their business model. In addition to using internet applications, such as the web and email, to generate revenue and communicate with customers, they also store important and proprietary information on computers that are accessible

  • 17. The Death Of A Toad By Richard Wilbur Death is final, sudden and yet eternal it yawns before and behind us all. In The Death of a Toad by Richard Wilbur, he show s his response to death through the final moments of a toad caught in a lawnmower. He uses imagery to bring attention to each important detail in the last moments of life while purposefully ignoring others, and diction, to choose certain words describing its journey after its demise. Death both ends life and brings it into sharp clarity, for the unfortunate toad what is brought into clarity is used to demonstrate what is important in death. The actual cause of death is unimportant to the toad for example, the power mower caught (Wilbur, line 1) the toad s leg and while it chewed and clipped (Wilbur, line 2) the actual mower is not described further. This is because the mechanism of death does not truly matter to the toad or the author, death is inevitable and the mower is simply accepted as what happened to be the deliverer to that end. The next use of imagery is the final glade (Wilbur, line 6) where the toad will come to rest for the last time. It hops to a place Under the cineraria leaves, in the shade of the ashen heart shaped leaves (Wilbur, line 45) which is more detailed than anything before it. More important than the injury or even the machine that eventually kills it is the final resting place, meaning the location of death and what that location means to the person dying is more important than the act itself. This is where the toad

Research Paper On Plastic Pollution Joshua Oldenkamp Dr.Arturo Vega October 30,2017 Policy Analysis Paper: Introduction: While taking one of my SMC courses at St.Mary s University, my professor began a discussion on plastics pollution and the effects it has on the environment. My professor began to talk more and more about this uncharted territory known as plastic pollution I never knew plastic was so harmful and what it is doing to our environment. What I knew then does not compare to what I know now. Everything that I have included in this research paper stems from what I have learned and the policies we have in the United States, the state of Texas, and the city of San Antonio. Issue Definition: Here I identified the who what when and how and the main issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Solution: would be to either provide incentivized programs and or tax on plastic, or leave everything the way it is. I will attempt to analyze our current use of programs to prevent further plastic pollution the San Antonio area, and whether or not we stay with the status quo, implement buyback programs or tax people who want plastic bags. The defining issue at hand is the increasing plastic presence, the pollution it brings along with, the disposal we provide, or do not provide. Plastic is going to be one of the leading issues in the next few years, right next to climate change. Background: Plastic is made up of carbon, this is a man made product which is specifically from oil. There were other creations before the discovery of plastic, in 1923 it was the Macintosh and rubber, then in 1839 the company Goodyear combined rubber and sulfur creating moldable stable substance, this process is known as vulcanization. In the 1850 s though 1870 s there was the ivory trade and billiard balls, and in 1909 the create of modern plastics, Bakelite. Then in 1930 we created the thermoplastic. There are 7 different type of plastics, polyethylene, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinyl chloride, polytetrafluorethylene, polyvinylidene, and polypropylene. Polyethylene, is the more commonly found plastic, this is our plastic bags, soda and water bottles, plastic films and their cases, and garbage bags. Polystyrene, in

The Heat Stress Of Firefighters Firefighters are subjected to significant levels of physical exertion, exposure to higher tempera ture environments, and smoke during the firefighting activities. The physical exertion includes the ability to carry heavy loads, for example oxygen tanks, removal of fallen building structures, rescue of a victim, etc. To be able to work in such inhospitable environments, firefighters wear a protective suit, which shields them from the high temperatures. However, the protective suit re stricts the heatoutflow from the human bodyto its immediate surroundings. A combination of the physical load, surroundings with higher temperature, and protective suit leads to heat buildup within the human body. An unchecked increase in body heat will lead... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inability to dissipate the heat is detrimental to the fire fighter s health and can result in heat related illnesses, including heat stroke and may contribute towards sudden cardiac events. 1.2 Computational whole body model To suitably dissipate the excess body heat, there are two options: 1) use of cooling mech anisms, and 2) limiting the duration of the activity, or both. The limit for the duration of activity can be predicted with the help of algorithms based on experimental data [4], human body simula tors [5, 6], or computational models [7]. Algorithms are developed based on the average re sponse of the human subjects tested in controlled environmental simulators. The variations in the local environment are limited based on the capacity of the experimental setup. Conversely, using a computational model includes the advantages of: 1) better manipulation of the human body ge ometry, and 2) the possibility to impose and test unfavorable boundary conditions such as expo sure to fire. Computational models allow for the integration of the human thermoregulatory sys tem with a physiologically realistic geometry to determine the thermal interactions of the model with the environment. However, the main drawback of the computational models is that their results are dependent on the quality of input data and boundary conditions. A computational model that resembles the human body is

One of the definitions of Physical Education is; regular instruction in physical exercise and games in schools and other institutions (Oxford English Dictionary). It is compulsory in the UK for every child up to the age of 16. Physical Education has been adapted immensely to fit the needs of young people and is still continuing to change. There are an increasing number of young people leading sedentary lifestyles by watching television instead of doing physical activity (British Heart Foundation, 2012). From 1992 until 2008, the different forms of the National Curriculum for Physical Education have been focused around the notion of Sport and Performance. There was a strong emphasis on competition and finding elite performers which may not be an ideal approach. Many children dislike the competitive element of sport and would rather take part for personal or social reasons. This wouldn t encourage young people to sustain physical activity levels as they may not want to compete and have only seen physical activity in a competitive light. In 2008, the new National Curriculum was launched and its priority was given to health and physical activity rather than sport. This reduced the amount of competitive elements and made it more about taking part. Some would say that the 4th NCPE was seen as successful as in 2007, 17% of boys and 16% of girls aged 2 15 were classified as obese and this decreased as in 2009, 16% of boys and 15% of girls aged 2 15 were seen as obese (Statistics on Obesity, Physical Activity and Diet England, 2009 and 2011). This slight decrease could be down to the change in the type of activities offered in school although it may not be the only factor. Giving young people the opportunity to set personal goals rather than basing everything around competition would promote life long participation in physical activity as they will get a sense of achievement from completing that specific goal. However, this focus on health and

He had taken me away from my mother and father, sold me into slavery, sold my sister into something even worse. I had taken him as a kind man. I thought he was so refined, so worldly. What a stupid child I had been. I would never go back to Yoroido, I decided. Or if I did , it would only be to tell Mr. Tanaka how much I hated him. ENGLISH The Taming of the Shrew , is one of William Shakespeare s most celebrated works in history and is known to be one of his most comedic pieces of literature. With its lighthearted sense of a late 1500 s Elizabethan era work, the famous play showed many relevant ideologies of society according to its particular era in history. Many of Shakespeare s works have been adapted into successful films that were made to suit the society of a new and different age, for example, his piece The Taming of the Shrew , has been formed into several films and short films. In my opinion, it just shows that Shakespeare s writings are still relevant today and forever will be timeless. The most famous remakes of the of the 1500 s play, were Gil Junger s 1999 adaptation 10 Things I Hate About You, and Franco Zeffirelli s 1967 version of The Taming of the Shrew . Both films show elements of similar society ideologies, such as masculinity and femininity which are portrayed through the main characters; Katherine, Kat, Petruchio and Patrick. Some characters show signs of severe misogynistic characteristics, for example, as the dominant Petruchio tames the dominant Katherine until she is submissive. To help corroborate with this is the quote For I am be born to tame you Kate, And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate. Conformable as other household Kates. Factual evidence states, although piped water facility in the rural regions almost doubled in past two decades, there are still 171 million people in rural regions who use surface water as the primary source of water (Kuberan 3). Water shortages are a far bigger concern and if that many people suffer in small city, what about the rest of the country? Although many rural cities do have water filter systems, the growing population is not supported by the amount of water and they have to settle to different time zones to get water. The UNIX operating system is a set of programs that act as a link between the computer and the user. The computer programs that allocate the system resources and coordinate all the details of the computer s internals is called the operating system or kernel. Users communicate with the kernel through a program known as the shell. The shell is a command line interpreter it translates commands entered by the user and converts them into a language that is understood by the kernel. UNIX was originally developed in 1969 by a group of AT T employees at Bell Labs, including Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, Douglas McIlroy, and Joe Ossanna. There are various UNIX variants available in the market. Solaris UNIX, AIX, HP UNIX and BSD are few examples. Several people can use a UNIX computer at the same time; hence UNIX is called a multiuser system. A user can also run multiple programs at the same time; hence UNIX is called multitasking. This is why BSNL uses UNIX operating system as the exchanges can be operated through a remote area. UNIX operating system provides various commands to operate embedded systems in C DOT DSS MAX. The commands used in C DOT DSS MAX UNIX operating system are broadly divided into two categories 1. Administration command classes 2. Maintenance command classes In Administration command classes, there

The Select Bipartisan Committee that investigated the Hurricane Katrina concluded that communication provides a critical path for relief in emergency and disaster situations. It was observed that the rescue efforts as well as the command and control awareness, was greatly affected by severe network failures and interoperability issues. This paper aims at analysing the requirements of such a network and suggests a completely wireless communication solution that can be deployed reliably. In the event of a catastrophic disaster, whether natural or man made, the efficiency of rescue teams and disaster response operations is very critical to life saving. Unfortunately, communication systems, including cellular networks, may be partially or completely comprised which render the emergency districts disconnected to the outside world. Thus, the increase in the survival rate requires breaking of the communication bottleneck. It is imperative that the communication network employed in a disaster affected area is highly resilient and robust to further damages. The network will be primarily used to communicate to the control rooms to provide and receive regular updates and additional requirements for personnel or machinery and warnings of any imminent dangers. The network would also serve to send warning messages to the people in the affected area. Emergency telecommunication systems need to deploy specialized

Ethics is the study of human behavior and the morality of each individual. 2.Define the terms deontology (deontological approach) and teleology (teleological approach). Deontology: is the act of doing the right thing no matter what the consequences are. For example, if an individual has a family member that killed someone then, it is his/her duty to go against the family member to say the truth. Even though it is bad to go against a family member, according to the deontological approach, it is doing the right thing. This individual is doing the right thing because he/she is not hiding anything, he/she is being truthful, and he/she is being honest. This ethical theory is different to Kant s ethical theory by the way utilitarianism is more towards the happiness route, while Kant s theory is more towards following the moral rules. Kant s ethical theory is not about maximizing happiness or pleasing anyone. This theory is more about acting and doing things the moral way such as duties that are morally right. 4. Compare rule utilitarianism with act utilitarianism. Rule utilitarianism is compared to act utilitarianism by the way it promotes happiness. A rule utilitarian is concerned more with the rule, yet by pleasing people. On the other hand, act utilitarianism is concerned with individual acts. For example, being honest to an individual will generate happiness. 5. Contrast a right with a duty and a right with a privilege. A right is a form of freedom and liberty. This allows people to have rights and to be able to do certain things. On the other hand, a duty is an act that has to be done. This is not done from an individual perspective it is done through obligation and respect to the moral

Brutus then gets run out of town and eventually loses everything he cherished most, more than anything when his wife Portia commits suicide due to her being unable to handle all the stress that was caused by her husband and the conspiracy as a whole. In the Strawberry Fields by Eric Schlosser brings up many concerning realities about what life is truly like for strawberry pickers. Many of these farm workers are illegal migrants from Mexico. Because of their illegal status, they are far less probable to go to the authorities with complaints of unfair treatment. Many strawberry field owners are more than willing to take advantage of this. These Mexican workers will work strenuously in hopes of earning more money, yet despite the extra hours of labor, their income hardly increases. This unfair treatment is far too common for workers such as these. On average, a strawberry picker works 12 hours a day. Not only is this considered working overtime, it is also extremely strenuous on one s body. Bending down low to pick the faultless strawberries is challenging for anyone, and hours of this can be tremendously painful. When forced to work like that several days a week for months at a time, permanent spinal impairment is common. Overworked, underpaid, and all around mistreated, these field workers deserve better treatment. Improved living environments could possibly come about merely by reasonable salaries. If everyone got paid the accurate amount for the work accomplished, money would not be such a struggle. It may not pay well, but minimum wage would be sufficient to at least help workers find places to live. The demanding hours and low pay makes life far more challenging than it ought to be. Paying less than minimum wage brings the greatest savings of all (Schlosser). While paying less than minimum wage saves the farm owners money, it turns these poor migrants work into something that is nearly slave labor. Often, Spanish speaking workers will sign an English contract, even though they comprehend nothing about it. While this may benefit the owners, it is cruel and unfair
  • 45. The Yield Spread Of A Corporate Bond And A Comparable... 2. Literature review The yield spread is defined as the difference between the yield on a corporate bond and a comparable government bond. Prior to a study done by Merton (1974) yield spreads were considered to be mainly driven by expected default losses on corporate bonds, tax premiums and risk premiums (Radier et al, 2015). However, Merton (1974) and more recent research has shown that factors such as equity volatility, liquidity, interest rate levels and the slope of the treasury term structure are also significant factors in determining changes in the yield spread (Radier et al, 2013; Lepone Wong, 2009; Peter Grandes, 2007; Collin Dufresne, Goldstein Martin, 2001). 2.1 Equity Volatility One of the three factors which Merton (1974) found to be a significant determinant of the yield spread was the probability of default as indicated by the firm specific equity volatility on the stock market. Merton (1974) predicted a positive relationship between equity volatility and the yield spread. According to Merton (1974), a short put option on the equity of a company is equivalent to a corporate bond issued by that company. This means that any individual corporate bond yield should have a positive relationship with the equity value of the firm (Jubinski Lipton, 2012). Radier et al (2015); Hibbert et al (2011); Campbell Taksler (2004) all find evidence supporting Merton (1974) s prediction of a positive relationship. Radier et al (2015) is the only one of these studies

Ethnicity plays a big role in this movie because it is the reason that the Jews are locked away in the concentration camps. The movie is a representation of Political Power becomes Personal Authority (Nichols, 2010, P.275) in the sense that Aldorf Hitler took advantage of the vulnerable Jews. This essay will discuss the differences between the Jews and Germans during WW II through race and ethnicity. This will be supported from examples in the two scenes chosen, book vocabulary, as well as the formal and social content to analyze the scenes. The movie The boy in the Striped Pajamas: is about an 8 year old, privileged German boy named Bruno, who loves exploring, is forced to move away from Berlin with his family to the Countryside during World War II. This is because, his father has just gotten promoted to Commandment by Hitler himself and was asked to live closer to the concentration camps. Bruno starts exploring the new area, and soon finds this barbed wired area where he meets a Jewish boy named Shmuel. Shmuel is held in the concentration camps, however Bruno does not find out the truth until the near end of the movie. Bruno and Shmuel form an undesirable bond that later in the movie causes many tragical events. Throughout the two scenes I have chosen to discuss, there are some similarities. First and foremost, these similarities include, the main idea of

  • 50. The Importance Of The Cochlear Implants The cochlear implant is quite possibly one of the greatest ideas invented to benefit the deaf community. American Sign Language (ASL) has been the main way the deaf communicate and is extremely important to the deaf culture. To those that can hear, being deaf or profoundly hard of hearing has been considered a handicap. It was for that reason that someone invented the cochlear implant, causing a huge debate within the deaf community. Some of those in the deaf community fear that their culture will be lost and destroyed, while others and the hearing community believe that it will better their lives. Most do not realize that this procedure is not a cure and that it will leave those with the implants confused as to where they belong in society. There are quite a few who believe the cochlear implants work just like the hearing aid, only implanted in their head. However, there are significant differences between the two. Cochlear implants do not restore normal hearing, whereas the use of hearing aids can bring it close to normal. Hearing aids send amplified sound to the damaged cochlea, and can be programmed to shape amplification of sound to match the hearing loss. Hearing aids are very limited in their ability to aid severe and profound hearing loss beyond environmental sound and vowels in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The electrode array is a group of electrodes that collect the impulses from the stimulator and sends them to different regions of the auditory
