Top 4 tips to keep your knees healthy
Whether you are a sports person or not, having healthy knees and joints are essential for
moving around seamlessly. Knee pain can arise out of either an injury or a sedentary lifestyle or
age. Occasional knee or joint pain can cause difficulty in walking and doing other regular
activities. It is important to address this at an early stage to avoid future consequences.
Did you know that extra every pound that a person puts on increases about 4 pounds of
pressure on their knees while walking or doing other activities? This extra strain on the knees
can adversely impact them, therefore it is important to maintain the good health of the knees.
Here are our top 4 tips that will help you keep your knees and joints healthy:
1. Exercise: The key to keep your knees healthy is to minimize stiffness. No matter what your
age is, a little exercise is needed. Something as simple as walking can be a good start for those
who are not used to exercising.
However, make sure you don’t overdo it as it could cause extra strain on your knees and joints.
2. Use knee support while doing intense exercises: If you are an athlete, then you must make
sure that you use a knee brace while performing sports. A knee brace will keep your knee
protected and ensure good health of your knees. While performing and practicing specific
dance forms too, dancers should make sure that they’ve secured their knees with a knee
support or a knee brace.
3. Eat right food: Eating more of anti-inflammatory food items such as walnuts, salmon, tuna,
fresh vegetables and fruits are proven to reduce the knee pain that arises out of inflammation.
Eating these foods on a regular basis can help you keep your knees and joints healthy. It is said
that vitamin C slows the progression of Osteoarthritis (OA).
4. Move often at work: Spending long hours seated at once place can cause stiffness of joints. It
is advised that you should take a break every hour and walk around for at least 5 minutes. This
will keep your knees and joints active, preventing them from stiffening.
You can also compensate for sitting long hours by joining a dance class like Zumba. This will not
only keep your knees healthy, but also maintain the flexibility of your body.
If you want to stay away from relying on arthritis pain relief products, then we advise that you
start following the mentioned tips. Remember, the key to arthritis pain relief is to fix the root
cause of the problem. A knee brace, knee support, and other arthritis pain relief products will
only provide temporary relief. The real solution is adopting a healthy lifestyle.
