The digital age disrupted the music world, ushering in a new era for fans, artists, retailers and other key stakeholders. This year, we got a clearer glimpse of what the second decade of digital music will look like—and it’s quite different from the first in many ways. In our Things to Watch: Music Edition, we chart what’s changing from both a macro and micro perspective.
In January 2016, a team of J. In our ninth annual report, we see how consumers are both welcoming and resisting technology's growing omnipresence in our lives. For many, technology serves as a gateway to opportunity and an enabler of hyper-efficient lifestyles, but those who are most immersed are starting to question its effect on their lives and their privacy. One result is that more people are trying to find a balance and lead more mindful, in-the-moment lives.
Our forecast also puts a spotlight on the growth of immersive experiences; the accelerating shift to a visual vocabulary; the new appeal of imperfection; and the rise of telepathic technology, which will enable brands to better understand minds and moods and react in a very personalized way.

Each year, art meets technology at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas. Celebrating the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries, this year's conference featured panels, seminars, parties and live music. Topics ranged from artificial intelligence and chat bots to female leadership and social purpose, revealing future trends for brands and agencies to keep in mind this upcoming year. Here are Y&R's key takeaways from SXSW 2017.
There was a time when SXSW set the agenda, but now it seems to reflect it.
Once a focal point of the digital design industry, the event has grown in size and ambition to become a forum for a wide variety of contemporary issues, seemingly random in nature and curated around no clear principles.
Havas has summarized some of the common key themes on display at SXSW, which were reflected more generally as societal trends.
Having participated in both SXSW and Cannes Lions Innovation festival this year, we've uncovered lots of insights on the current communications climate and have put together 9 trends which should serve as guidance for the areas to focus on in 2016.
Y&R once again sent some of its brightest minds to the interactive portion of the annual event and here’s what they had to say about the trends at the intersection of technology and advertising, and what they mean for brands today.
Matt Bell, Head of Digital Strategy at MEC UK, gathers inspiration from outside the big 'hero' wins of Cannes Lions and asks marketers and agencies some key questions that are raised by the trends….

A presentation I gave at the CPA Congress in Brisbane, Australia on 11 Oct 2012. The presentation covers the topic of disruptive innovation and in particular makes a case that industries today are being disrupted at faster rate than ever before in history. I analyse the macro trends driving this acceleration in disruption and also outline how businesses can turn these into opportunities rather than threats.
The next tectonic shift is happening. A cost-effective and easily scalable workforce is now available to anyone in the world. Simultaneously, every industry is now digitised and there is a growing proliferation of cheap and scalable infrastructure - this signals disruption for many existing business models and an opportunity for those willing to act on the changes.

How will our children, grand children and great grand children be living? What policies, research and investments do they need us to make today to make their lives better tomorrow? A team of over 50 scientists and business analysts in CSIRO identified five megatrends, several megashocks and two scenarios for the next 20 years. A megatrend is a pattern of environmental, social and/or economic activity with profound implications for how we live. Megashocks are sudden, hard to predict, single events. Scenarios are a mix of science fiction and science fact and explore how the trends and shocks might play out into an uncertain future.
The End Of Control and the Future of Content: Futurist Gerd Leonhard Authors@...Gerd Leonhard
When every song, every movie, every book and every image can easily be found and shared via high-speed digital networks, and any actual control of the flow of content becomes a thing of the past, how will content creators and their respective industries generate growing revenues, in the future? When search becomes media, and advertising becomes content, what's the future of creativity? Which precise new generatives (>Kevin Kelly) can be nurtured to build this new ecosystem of search, content and communications, based on access to content rather than copies?

With this Future of Home Living report, PSFK Labs wants to provide our point of view on what life at home may look like in the coming months and years and how we might get there. This research seeks to uncover the emerging behaviors, technologies, products, services, and initiatives that are driving the evolution of the home.
In the following pages, we’ll provide a detailed look at 13 key trends that are directly influencing the future of urban life. Each trend has been brought to life through a mix of products and services, many of which you could purchase and use today. Alongside these best-in-class examples, we’ve spoken to experts and gathered supporting data to further highlight the impact of these ideas.
To examine our trends through a macro lens, we’ve organized them into three larger themes: Adaptive, On-Demand and Equilibrium, which point to the importance of a clean, efficient and responsive space that can flexibly conform to the ever-changing needs of its residents. This overarching framework is meant to inspire anyone who creates or markets products and services for the home.

What are the future trends in the Digital Workplace? Are we facing even bigger disruption from social, gamification, and the trends that have been prevalent over the last years or are we coming to a point where things are beginning to mature?
In this presentation - from Nordic Intranet Summit, November 2014 - I have looked at some common themes that I see across both the Nordic region and in the Intranet/Digital Workplace community as a whole.
Will there be Hoverboards? Not very likely... While innovations like these are exciting and fun, the real trends are what we see when we look at innovative solutions and innovative vendors.
The question is: Are we making the most of the emergent trends or are we still using the same thinking and logic we did when the Sharepoint 2007 intranet was launched? It's time to challenge ourselves and our peers!

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

The following 10 future trends
will each be as big and disruptive
in the next 5 years as the Internet
has been in the last 20 years
14. Crowdsourcing, crowdfunding
and outsourcing have given us
access to everyone, everywhere.
This means you now have access
to all the money, talent, resources
and information you need
to succeed.

change
We may be so busy looking for
intelligence outside, we forget
to look for intelligence inside.
32. Competitive advantage in the
last 100 years has moved from
‘book smart’ to ‘street smart’ to
‘silicon smart’.
Silicon smart is using data and
artificial intelligence to understand
your customer so that you can deliver
a personalized service at scale.

35. Backwards A.I. vs Forward A.I.
Most sites are using backwards AI,
giving recommendations based on
your past habits. Suggesting books
based on other purchases, etc
Example: I bought a Darth Vader
outfit on Amazon, so now everything
Amazon suggests for me is related
to Star Wars…
36.
37.
38. Backwards A.I. vs Forward A.I.
Forwards A.I. is based not on where
you’ve been but where you want to
go. In most cases, this doesn’t come
from doing what you have been
doing, but doing things differently.
39. An example of Forwards A.I. is our
GeniusU entrepreneur education
platform, where we have created
user-led assessments.
This allows you to assess where you
are and where you want to go, and
then be given direction through the
right learning missions to get there.
41. GeniusU was launched in July 2014 as a web and mobile education
platform delivering personalised assessment based learning
modules for life long learners & entrepreneurs.
Discover your talents and passion Missions based on your profile/level Available on web and mobile

53. The launch of instantaneous voice
translation, through Google
Translate, Skype and other
platforms, we have for the first time
an instant way to connect and
communicate with the entire world.
This means you should be thinking
global, not local - for both your
market and your source of
market feedback.
60. Example: When we launched our
Entrepreneur Resort in Bali, by
thinking our market as a global
market we have attracted
entrepreneurs from 5 to 10 countries
at each of our 30 day iLabs
accelerator programs.

64. The Internet of Things will be 10x
bigger than the Internet of People.
This is creating an information grid
similar to the power grid where the
Internet becomes invisible and our
environment becomes intelligent.
74. 3D printing will democratize
production in the same way the
Internet democratized expression.
This will lead to a revolution in how
we design and create our own
products, the global speed of
delivery and price of
physical products.
84. The exponential growth in the speed
of data flow is leading to a shift from
reading websites to watching videos
to experiencing virtual worlds online.
This will transform the online world
as we know it today.
95. Intelligent machines are not only
getting connected, but getting
mobile.
This is resulting in robots and
machines taking over more and
more roles that until now depended
on humans.
104. The trend that is humanizing
machines is matched by the trend
that is digitizing humans.
DNA science is progressing rapidly
and is leading to our biology being
digitized. Linked to intelligent
prosthetics and 3D bioprinting is
leading to mechanized humans.

114. Example: Here are the results of
my DNA analysis, which allows me
to connect with relatives by DNA
and to get a personalized profile of
health risks.
121. In the same way that
entrepreneurs rewrote the rules in
each time they discovered a new
free world in the past,
entrepreneurs are seeing space
and the oceans as the next
frontiers and the new free world.
133. World wide wealth is the concept
that collectively we can create and
contribute more than when
competing with each other.
It is easier to do this now than
ever, and more essential
that we do.
134. “Humanity is taking its final exam.
We have come to an extraordinary moment
when it doesn’t have to be you or me anymore.
There is enough for all.”
~ Buckminster Fuller

188. When you follow your natural path, and begin at the
level you are at, you have a certainty within a sea
of uncertainty.
Your natural path is the surfboard to hold on to, that
allows you to surf any wave. As you grow your
expertise, you grow the size of wave you can surf.
We can’t predict the future with certainty.
But what is certain is if you know how to surf,
you can surf the waves as they arrive.
