This document provides a framework for mapping an organization's information assets and processes. It involves:
1) Listing key processes and identifying related information assets, tagging them as core, business, or support processes and common vs proprietary information.
2) Mapping customer lifecycles to identify key information assets at different customer touchpoints.
3) Completing a similar exercise for other asset lifecycles like maintenance.
4) Providing a matrix of initiatives to establish an enterprise information management program addressing areas like governance, risk management and integration with other programs.

By infusing information with intelligence, users can discover meaning in the digital data that envelops people, organizations, processes, products and things.
Every year around this time a group of us at Tableau try to slow down and take a look around. We take some time to talk about what’s happening in the market—what’s new, what’s surprising, what’s meaningful. And what a time to be in the world of data and analytics! Smart new platforms are launched seemingly every month. Organizations are starting to see the benefits of broadly empowering people with data. People are using data in ways that were science fiction just a couple of years ago.
It’s always a great discussion. It’s this discussion that drives our Top 10 Trends in Business Intelligence for 2015.

MDM is particularly important in today’s increasingly complex and harsh global business landscape – in part due to increasingly demanding suppliers, trading partners, customers … as well as financial challenges and government regulations. Despite the current economic crisis, analyst firms have declared MDM to be “recession proof” as businesses strive to dramatically reduce costs, meet compliance reporting mandates, deliver increased sales and marketing effectiveness, and provide superior service to customers and suppliers. MDM and its variants – customer data integration (CDI), product information management (PIM), and data governance – all significantly contribute to these tactical business priorities.
Research analysts at the MDM Institute annually produce a set of twelve milestones for their MDM Road Map to help Global 5000 enterprises focus efforts for their own large-scale, mission-critical MDM projects. This keynote will focus on this set of strategic planning assumptions and present an enlightening view of the key trends and issues facing IT organizations during 2009-10 and beyond by highlighting:
Understanding the impact of MDM market momentum, maturation, and consolidation
Coping with the skills shortage for data governance, MDM project leadership, & enterprise architecture
Identifying the essential (vs. desirable) features of an enterprise-strength MDM solution

Data Quality in Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Environments - Disc...Alan D. Duncan
Time and again, we hear about the failure of data warehouses – while things may be improving, they’re moving only slowly. One explanation data quality being overlooked is that the I.T. department is often responsible for delivering and operating the DWH/BI
environment. What ensues ends up being an agenda based on “how do we build it”, not a “why are we doing this”. This needs to change. In this discussion paper, I explore the issues of data quality in data warehouse, business intelligence and analytic environments, and propose an approach based on "Data Quality by Design"
Optimizing Regulatory Compliance with Big DataCloudera, Inc.
3 Things to Learn:
-There are many challenges in the way financial firms deal with regulatory compliance today
-Some of these challenges are related to data management and can be solved by big data technologies
-Cloudera and its partners Trifacta and Qlik are offering a solution that can accelerate the time to obtain compliance reports by using automated workflows and fast analytics that work on top of Cloudera’s Enterprise Data Hub.
Business Intelligence is more than a fad. But to embrace it requires a significant commitment.
Every competitive business recognizes the power in knowledge. The definition of “knowledge” is both subjective and obscure. All too often, a business is unable to succinctly express what information it wants and what it will do with this information. Many earnest efforts are made to develop effective data reporting resources. The most common mistakes are costly, time consuming and wasteful.
The Role of Community-Driven Data Curation for EnterprisesEdward Curry
With increased utilization of data within their operational and strategic processes, enterprises need to ensure data quality and accuracy. Data curation is a process that can ensure the quality of data and its fitness for use. Traditional approaches to curation are struggling with increased data volumes, and near real-time demands for curated data. In response, curation teams have turned to community crowd-sourcing and semi-automatedmetadata tools for assistance. This chapter provides an overview of data curation, discusses the business motivations for curating data and investigates the role of community-based data curation, focusing on internal communities and pre-competitive data collaborations. The chapter is supported by case studies from Wikipedia, The New York Times, Thomson Reuters, Protein Data Bank and ChemSpider upon which best practices for both social and technical aspects of community-driven data curation are described.

Reducing Image Hide & Seek with AI for In-House AgenciesNuxeo
Most designers spend a lot of time (too much, in fact) searching for images. The thing is, finding what you’re looking for assumes the image was tagged with the appropriate terms up front. Artificial intelligence (AI) can be a useful aid to identify image attributes. And, applying AI using machine learning (ML) models that can be trained on your specific business data can add real value by reducing tedious manual tagging while increasing search effectiveness.
In this webinar, we walk through a practical example from an apparel manufacturer of how business-trained AI is being used to identify and label creative assets during mass image uploads.

Building an effective business architecture and metrics capabilityMatthew De George
Building an effective business architecture capability is fundamentally about organisational change management. A siloed business architecture capability is no capability at all. This is a conversation starter by Matthew De George to help ensure your initiative gets off to a good start.

Approach
1. Along the top list the most natural decomposition of your
organisation. This can be level 1 processes, business capabilities, or
services.
2. For each, consider the information assets you need to effectively
manage these capabilities. Focus on inputs, but when you identify an
output ensure you check you’ve included the capability the output is
for
3. Tag each processes as “C”ore, “B”usiness, “S”upporting service
4. Tag the information “C”ommon or “P”roprietary
5. Optionally mark C.R.U.D. (Create, Read, Update, Delete) in
Information Assets
Reflection
Who in your organisation would you ask for the list of
information assets?
Who in your organisation owns the information assets?
Do you keep thinking somebody in IT?
Is there any information that must be produced that isn’t
currently exploited in a capability?
Is it easier to list the process / capabilities or the
information?
Analysis
Multiple uses of the same information assets require
additional governance and potentially additional mastering
Those information assets in common with other
organisations have “packaged” solutions

Approach
1. Define a simple customer life-cycle or set of customer decision
points. Use a generic life-cycle or the life-cycle you’ve uncovered for
your organisation
2. Include at least one point in the life-cycle prior to a touchpoint with
our organisation
3. Include at least one point in the life-cycle where customers are likely
to experience your organisation at its worse - where a trajectory to exit
might be found.
4. Identify 1-3 information assets that give you customer insight at
each point in the life-cycle
Life before Us
Centre of Everything we Do
… Things we do badly
Reflection
Are you blind to critical sections of the customer life-cycle?
Are you accidentally excluding areas where privacy,
complexity, or other challenges have traditionally made
insight difficult?
Do you need to add information you could potentially
collect? What about information you aren’t allowed to
collect, or that you need to destroy (Privacy Act)?
(obligation to manage non-collection)
For information areas applicable to more than once section
of the customer life-cycle how do you maintain “customer
touchpoint integrity”?
For each information area self-assess ownership, quality,
integrity.
