Hello everyone, today our team is going to present a TMS consulting project for a language service company. To protect the company’s identity, we are just going to call it Company C.
The company is passionate about helping their clients unlock international business insights by providing the perfect linguist match for every project. The linguist community has grown to over 2,500, and are based in dozens of countries all around the world.
In the following slides, our team is going to propose several ideas to improve the company’s usage and integration of its Translation Memory System, Smartcat.
Proposal I: The company can upgrade Smartcat's translation engine to utilize neural machine translation technology. NMT has shown significant advancements over traditional statistical machine translation methods, providing more fluent and contextually accurate translations. Smartcat is compatible with various NMT options as long as they can generate translations in a compatible format. Users can train their own NMT models using frameworks like OpenNMT, Fairseq, Marian, or TensorFlow and integrate them into Smartcat as custom translation systems. Smartcat provides an API and documentation for integrating custom translation systems, allowing users to utilize their own trained NMT models within the platform.
Proposal I: This means that users would be able to see the changes made by others in real-time as they occur, facilitating seamless collaboration and reducing potential conflicts or duplications.
Proposal II: Integrating a live chat or commenting system directly into the Company’s TMS interface would enable users to communicate and collaborate more effectively. This feature would allow translators, editors, and project managers to discuss specific segments, ask questions, provide clarifications, and share feedback in real-time. Such a chat or commenting system would streamline communication, ensuring that all stakeholders are on the same page throughout the translation process.
QA Proposal: Smartcat could enhance its quality assurance (QA) capabilities by allowing users to create customizable QA checks based on their specific project requirements. This would involve providing a user-friendly interface where users can define and configure their own quality checks, such as consistency of terminology, adherence to style guides, punctuation errors, or formatting issues. Smartcat could offer integration with popular external QA tools commonly used in the translation industry. This integration would allow users to leverage the advanced features and extensive rule sets provided by these tools. Lastly, Implementing real-time quality metrics and reporting within Smartcat would provide users with instant feedback on translation quality.
Proposal 1: The company could consider integrating Smartcat with Sonix API. The API should support key functionalities, such as project creation, file upload and download, task management, and translation memory access, and transcription services. Additionally, implement webhooks to enable real-time notifications and data updates for seamless integration with external systems.
Proposal 2: Enhance Smartcat's language processing capabilities to recognize and handle different dialects and accents within languages. This ensures that translations accurately capture regional variations and linguistic nuances, providing a more comprehensive linguistic coverage.
Encryption: Implement robust encryption mechanisms to protect data both during transit and at rest. Utilize industry-standard encryption protocols, such as SSL/TLS, to secure data communication between users and the Smartcat platform. Additionally, employ strong encryption algorithms to safeguard sensitive data stored in databases or files.
Access Control and Authentication: Strengthen access control mechanisms by implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) for user accounts. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to provide additional verification factors, such as a one-time password or biometric authentication. Implement granular access control policies to restrict access to sensitive data based on user roles and permissions.
Regular Security Audits and Testing: Conduct regular security audits and penetration testing to identify vulnerabilities in Smartcat's infrastructure. Engage third-party security experts to assess the platform's security posture and provide recommendations for improvements. Regular security testing helps proactively identify and address potential security risks.
Scalability and Elasticity: Smartcat can leverage the scalability and elasticity provided by the cloud to handle varying workloads and user demands. By utilizing Smartcat’s cloud infrastructure, Company C can dynamically scale its resources up or down based on demand, ensuring optimal performance during peak usage periods and cost efficiency during low-demand periods.
Cost Optimization: Cloud technology provides cost optimization opportunities through its pay-as-you-go pricing model and resource scalability. Smartcat can optimize costs by leveraging cloud resources efficiently, scaling resources based on demand, and avoiding upfront infrastructure investments. This allows Company C to allocate resources effectively and optimize costs while delivering reliable services to its users.
