- 2. ALPHABET OF LINES -These are used to represent shapes, sizes, hidden surfaces, interior details on technical drawings. -Lines have different types, thickness and shapes -Each line conveys a particular meaning on the drawing
- 3. ALPHABET OF LINES 1. Object/Visible Line 7. Cutting Plane Line 2. Construction Line 8. Break Line 3. Dimension Line 9. Leader Line 4. Hidden Line 10. Phantom Line 5. Center Line 11. Section Line 6. Extension Line
- 5. OBJECT/VISIBLE LINE -thick, dark line used to show an outline of an object, visible edges and surfaces.
- 7. CONSTRUCTION LINE -very light and thin line used to construct lay-out work.
- 8. EXTENSION LINE -Extension line aids dimension lines by extending the surface of the object so it can be dimensioned.
- 9. DIMENSION LINE -thin and dark lines used to show the size (span) of an object with numeric value -usually terminates with arrowheads
- 11. HIDDEN LINE -short dash lines used to show non- visible surfaces and usually shows as medium thickness.
- 13. CENTER LINE -these are thin and dark lines made up of alternating long and short dashes used to indicate the center of holes, circles and arcs.
- 15. CUTTING PLANE LINE -very thick lines that indicate where an imaginary cutting plane passes through for viewing or sectioning purpose. -arrowheads on both ends of the line point to the surface to be viewed.
- 17. BREAK LINE -these lines are used to shorten a view, or to eliminate repetitive details when an entire view is not necessary. a. Short-break line b. Long-break line
- 18. SHORT BREAK LINE โthick wavy line used to break the edge of a surface for clarity on a hidden surface.
- 19. LONG BREAK LINE โthin zigzag lines used to show that the middle section of an object has been removed.
- 20. LEADER LINE -thin line used to connect a dimension line with a particular area or point on the drawing. It has an arrowhead to show notes or labels.
- 22. PHANTOM LINE -long line followed by two short dashes used to show alternate position of a moving part.
