Robert Frost Research Papers
[Simply said], Robert Frost was an intriguing man. [In the span of his career], he was awarded
four Pulitzer prizes and recited a poem at John F. Kennedy s inauguration. Many of his poems had
underlying messages that would influence many people, even today. [In short], many of Frost s
poems give life lessons and enlighten the readers on the subjects of nature and life altogether,
making Robert Frostan outstanding poet in American History. Robert Lee Frost, named after the
famous Southern General Robert E. Lee, was brought into this world on March 26, 1874, in San
Francisco, California. He was born to William Frost, Jr. and Isabelle Frost. Throughout his
childhood, his only sibling was his sister, Jeanie. When Robert Frost was 11 years old,... Show more

The first theme, the outdoors, is best revealed in his poem The Road Not Taken. In this poem,
Frost uses a fork in a road to describe making decisions in life. Given the main idea, most likely the
poem is referring to Frost s decision to leave farming to follow poetry. Frost uses five lines of
poetry in each verse with similar length. Using the technique of inferring, analysts can conclude
that the poem relates to the theme of perfect decision making. It shows that decisions can not
always be perfect. Frost uses symbolism and imagery to display a visual representation of a
decision. For example, in lines 1 2 Frost uses the fork in the road in a forest as a reference to a
decision with two choices. He evaluates each side (trade offs in a decision) and chooses a side
as in lines 4 5. Shortly after, he describes the side he chose. He says the road was grassy and that
it was not worn. This creates not only a mental image but the realization that one side can
visually appear better than the other. On line 12, he states that there are leaves on the ground
which we can picture and also believe that it is autumn. From line 16 to 20, he repeats the first
stanza. This represents the reflection of his decision. Although he repeated the first stanza, Frost
removed the word yellow, that described the woods, and also said that he chose the one less
traveled, and he did not regret it. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I / I took the one less
traveled by, / And that has made all the difference (The Road Not Taken). Frost does this to show
that decision making can be hard, but it is best to evaluate and choose the decision that is best
suitable, not what everyone else chooses. Throughout this poem, Frost tries to bring attention to
questionable/uneducated decisions in life and make the best of them through his tone and word
choice. Frost s theme of imperfection can be seen either

Italian Renaissance Art
One of the most influential periods in the history of Western Art is the Italian Renaissance, between
1400 1600 CE. During this time art flourished, and many of the techniques and advancements of art
would continue to be taught in art schools that spread across Europe and lay as the foundation of
art in modern society. However, some of the main values taught from the Renaissancealso caused
the resurgence of art at the time, and were originally adapted from the Ancient Greek (Visual
arts...). Particularly in sculpture, the Greeks focus on perfecting the naturalism of the human form

Even within the Hellenistic period, between 323 to 30 BCE and the ending period of Greeks in
power, advancements were made to not only movement of the human figure in sculptor but what
expression they held (Gardner 153). During this period Greece had become providence to Rome,
and under patronage of Roman leaders came the marble statue of Lacoön and his sons, depicting
story of the Gods revenge on the Trojan priest after his failed attempt to warn the Trojan army of
the Greek s plans with the wooden horse. Attributed to three sculptors, Athanadoros, Hagesandros,
and Polydoros of Rhodes, this marble statue stands 7 10 ½ tall, the tallest being Lacoön himself
in the center and his two sons on opposite sides. The three men are twisting and contorting their
bodies, attempting to free themselves from the massive snake sent by the gods, all three of their
expressions show they are in pain from the strung. Lacoön s face is contorted with the most
agony from the snake biting him in his left hip (162). The expression of pain within all three
figures shows the evolution of how Greek sculptors depicted humans in art, along with the
advancement to how movement is portrayed. This statue would also play a role in inspiring how
sculptors of the Renaissance would work with marble, and was even unearthed in Rome during this
time, in 1506, in front of

How Wozniak Changed My Life
On February 24, 1955 I was born. Farther down in life, I had an idea that could potentially
change the world. Absolutely ridiculous, Richard said to me as we were walking along the
sidewalks of San Francisco to the train station. What s wrong with it, and can you stop talking in
that monotonous voice? I asked Richard. You re telling me that you want to build a computer
for personal use. You re one facetious guy. So, what s wrong with it? Why not take these big
computers and make them smaller for personal use. I ll call them personal computers, or I can
abbreviate it to PC, I told him. I m telling you it s a waste of money and time. No one will buy it.
It ll end up atrocious, and you ll regret it, Richard said to me. You know, when I m making

computer; However, there was much more that needed to be done. I have an idea of what we can
call it, Wozniak said to me. I have one too, you go first. Windows, Wozniak told me. Whose
going to buy a computer called Windows. We should call our company Apple, and this computer

he was turning the computer on. Oh, by the way I held a meeting, and told everyone about our
invention. We are scheduled to show off our computer two weeks from now, I told him hoping he
would not get mad. Two weeks! Are you kidding me? Wozniak said in disbelief. What s wrong? I

Biography of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was a self educated lawyer who did not support slavery. He surprised many
people when he became the 16th President mainly because he beat out several promising
contenders. During the Civil War Lincoln became quite brilliant with military strategy and an
excellent wartime leader. With the Union on the brink of victory Lincoln became a martyr when
he was shot and killed by a Confederate sympathizer by the name of John Wilkes Booth. Over time
Lincoln became known as one of the greatest Presidents of all time.
Abraham Lincoln was born February 12 1809 in Hardin County Kentucky to Thomas and Nancy
Lincoln. In 1816 his family moved to southern Indiana. Lincoln had little formal education due to
the fact that he ahd to work to help support his family. Lincolns mother died when he was only
nine, and as a young boy he took that pretty rough. Abraham quickly began to resent his father for
all the work that was placed on him at a young age.
His father remarried a Kentucky widow with three children of her own. Although Lincolns
parents were probably illiterate, Sarah encouraged Abraham to read. It wasn t till he was a
young man that he received most of his formal education. It would come in days or weeks at a
time. Books were scarce in the backwoods of Indiana, so Lincoln would read the Bible or other
popular books of that time such as Robinson Crusoe and several others.
In 1830, Lincolns family moved to Macon County, Illinois. At the age of 22 when his father

Math and Graph Models Behind the Olympic Paul Vault Jump
Introduction
Every 4 years, the Olympic games is a major event around the world. International athletes come
together to represent their own country at a sport. A gold medal is given to the winner of each
game. This math internal assessment aims to consider the trends of the wining men gold medalist s
pole vault height from 1932 to 2008, and predicting 1940 and 1944 record, when the Olympic
games were not held due to the world war.
Data Height Record 1932 2008
The table below shows the men pole vault gold medalists at various Olympic games between 1932
and 2008.
Table 1: the winning heights of men s pole vault in Olympic games for years between 1932 and
2008. (Excluding 1940 and 1944)
Year193219361948195219561960196419681972... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war, however, stopped the improvement of the heights record. Therefore, we could deduce that
the depression between 1936 and 1948 was due to lack of training due to the war. When the games
resumed in 1948, the athletes started to progress their record once again.
As you can see above, we could refine our model, disregarding the 1932 and 1936 record.
Graph 5: Graph of winning heights (m) against years since 1948
This refined model is better representation of data than graph 1 and 2 even if the line does not
pass through every point. Passing through point increased from 2 to 3 (4, 52 and 56) and majority
of points are very close to the line. It is true that some points, such as point 16 and 20 quite far
from the line, but these points can be disregarded in this model, as the line is touching the following
point 24.
This gives the new linear equation y=0.0264x+4.4338 However, even though refined graph has
better equation than those of past one, there are some limitations with using linear equation to
determine the graph. Since a linear graph increases infinitely, and as humans have restraints to
achieve to record, their winning height can t keep increasing at this rate. It is not sustainable.
Natural Logarithm Model
After considering the limitation of linear function and graph, I have discovered applying any model
of equation that has an infinite increase range, such as quadratic or exponential, is unrealistic, since

Positive And Negative Effects Of Imperialism In Japan
Imperialism affected many African colonies in both positive and negative ways. Two major
colonies that were affected, Korea and the Congo, are currently still suffering, as well as
improving from the effects of imperialism. Imperialism is when a nation wants to get control of
foreign lands to increase the nation s power or for more resources. Japan wanted to get land from
Koreaand Belgium wanted to get control of the land of the Congo. They colonies took extreme
measures to get what they wanted and there were positive and negative outcomes from this.
Japan imperialize Korea from 1910 to 1945. During this time, Japan was very harsh and Koreans
were not treated fairly. In a article it states that Korean labor was what was needed and Japanese
got just that (Large, Stephen S). Korean woman worked in factories and most Koreans who were
in the military would die first. Japan ruled directly by military and Koreans were under
supervision of the army (Beasley, W.G) so when they disagreed with anything, they would be
quickly punished or even killed. The colony was affected a lot by this imperialism. Japan was
affected by three aspects of national life: security, economy, and its society, and culture and
imperialism Korea did not cause fundamental change just modified them (Large, Stephen S.). This
is meaning that by imperialising Korea its helping out Japan become more modernized but while
doing this it s destroying Korea physically, and mentally. In a article from a student at

I.Problem 1 Osprey Corporation
a. Facts
Dan and Patrick Zimbrick, sole shareholders of Osprey Corporation have been required to repay
compensation to Osprey Corporation that was found by the IRS to be excessive. In order to
determine how these repayments are to be treated for tax purposes, it is important to note that in
2006 the board of directors made up of Dan, Patrick and their uncle John, adopted a legally
enforceable resolution. The resolution stipulated that any overpayment of salary disallowed as a
deduction by the IRS would be repaid to the Osprey Corporation. In late 2010 during an audit by the
IRS, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, the taxpayer included the excessive compensation in his return for the year the
compensation was received. Section 1341 allows a taxpayer the option to choose the more
favorable alternative. As written in the case: if the taxpayer included an item in gross income in
one taxable year, and in a subsequent taxable year he becomes entitled to a deduction because
the item or a portion thereof is no longer subject to his unrestricted use, and the amount of the
deduction is in excess of $3,000, the tax for the subsequent year is reduced by either the tax
attributable to the deduction or the decrease in the tax for the prior year attributable to the
removal of the item, whichever is greater (52 AFTR 2d 83 6071, 718 F2d 193, 83 2 USTC P
9620.). If Dan or Patrick had a higher tax rate in 2007 than in 2011, this credit could result in
more tax savings. Because the court had determined that the repayment can be claimed under
section 1341 in Van Cleave v. U.S., and the IRS had taken a similar position in Rev. 69 115 1969
1 C.B. 50. Dan and Patrick can claim the repayments to Osprey Corporation as either a credit under
Section 1341 or a deduction under section 162(a).

Sir Isaac Newton s Three Laws Of Motion
Tragedies and accidents are considered to be catastrophic events. With the help of Sir Isaac
Newton s three laws of motion, these events can easily be explained. Sir Isaac Newton s three
laws of motion are rules of nature which provide the means to see how so many aspects of life
beautifully connect with one another. The first law consists of objects that are at rest remain at
rest and vice versa for objects in motion. The second law relates to behavior of objects in which
existing forces are not balanced. The third law consists of action reaction. Overall, Sir Isaac
Newton was one of the most important and influential scientists because of all of his discoveries.
Newton s first law of motion is often stated as: An object at rest stays at rest and an object in
motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an
unbalanced force ( Newton s First Law ). To put it into simpler terms, an object will not change its
motion unless an unbalanced force comes in contact. This property in which objects withstand
change in motion is known as inertia. Amounts of inertia are measured by mass. Objects, which
have a greater mass, need a larger amount of force in order to change their motion. An example of
inertia, is hitting a tree as you are traveling in your car at a high speeds. The car will come to an
instant stop, but the seat belt and friction between the passenger and the seat will prevent the
passenger from being catapulted forward. Many

Paper Towel Experiment
Abstract: The overall question that was trying to be answered during this experiment was: Which
paper towel brand is the strongest? Before completing the experiment, the hypothesis was that out
of Bounty, Brawny and Sparkle, Bounty would be the strongest paper towel. This was because on
reviews for paper towels Bounty was almost always rated five stars, while Brawny and Sparkles
had lower ratings. To test this experiment, the first steps were to fill a container with water, and
lay a paper towel in it. Next steps were to let the paper towelsoak up the water for five minutes, and
then take it out of the water when the timer went off. Final steps were to stack quarters on the
center of the paper towel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These steps would be repeated for all three paper towel brands. At the end of the experiment, the
paper towel that held the most quarters would be the strongest. Data for experiment still needed to
give a conclusion to project.
Introduction: Every paper towel brand claims to be the best, but which brand is actually the best?
The purpose of this experiment was to test the strength of multiple paper towel brands to see
which was the strongest. This information is useful to know because most people buy paper
towels, and would like to get their money s worth. Many websites that had reviews on paper
towels had Bounty rated at a five star. This leads many people to believe that Bounty is the best
paper towel brand, but doing this experiment was the true test to

Bomba And Orquestas Influence On American Music
Did you know that most of the modern musical forms have come from ancestor s past sense of
music? From bomba to plena, Cajun music to swamp pop and zydeco and conjunto and orquesta
Tejano to tex mex, music has long been the art of retaking art forms and molded it into different
art. Music will continue to thrive and evolve if it remains organic in its nature. Bomba dates to the
colonial period of Puerto Rico, and Plena would arrive on the scene in the early 20th century taking
roots from bomba in southern Puerto Rico. This percussion driven musicwas meant to move people
to dance. And while both are often mentioned as the same group, there is differences in each.

Orquestas existed prior to the new movement, but they were toned down from what they were
today. Orquestas commonly consisted of one or two violins and ushered with guitar accompanist.
But as new generations came became more Americanized, they started to blend their culture with
Americans, the result was orquestas Tejano. Orquesta tejana was often looked down upon by
Mexican nationals, for downplaying their own cultural heritage and joining the American
mainstream, this divided the two groups. Two such innovators of Orquesta tejana were Armando
Marroqoin and Paco Betancourt, these two formed Ideal records in 1946. Armando would reach
national stardom, when he produced Las Delicas (Polka) and his ranchero style. However, while
most of the popular age of Orquesta Tejana was in the 1940 s 1950 s It continues to thrive today in
the form of Tex Mex, and La Onda Chicana. Another popular group that pioneered Tejano
introducing blues and swing into their music was Carmen y Laura. Carmen y Laura would pave the
way for new pioneers to branch off and to start new and ground breaking genres. In San Antonio,
Falco Jimenez would revolutionize the Tejano style with introducing accordion. Nortena or the

Pablo Picasso Contributions
Pablo Picasso was a significant man. During the twentieth century he was known as one of the most
influential artist. Picasso was not a man to jump in the boat of mainstream. If society had a ranking
chart, he would be at the top in the art realm. Creating ones own type of art shows characteristics of
adaptation, loud opinions, realness, taking head to their emotions, come to find the solutions to
their problems, and acceptance.
As a little boy born in Malaga, Spain on October 25, 1881, his parents did not know he would be
a child prodigy. An expatriate painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer; just
shows how diverse he was. Not just a basic love for art did he have, some say he was radical in his
work. Over thee fourths of his life, he devoted his whole being to his art, he believed this was the
best thing for his body. As a 14 year old, he began putting his work out in the open. He believed
that leaving Spain and set out towards Paris would help him further his love for art.
A young boy with self confidence, strong will, and a mind focused on enormous dreams. From a
young age Pablo knew he wanted to be a creator. He wanted to paint, sculpt, draw, etc. for the
entertainment of others. His father was also an artist, so here is where Picasso found his love
for art. Growing up around his fathers relish and passion for art; he was accustomed to the
things an artist has to do to pursue their dream. Picasso also saw his father as an educator, as he
was a professor at the school of fine arts as well as a curator at the museum in Malaga. When he
grew old enough, Picasso studied under his father for one year at the school of fine arts: then he
decided to transfer to the Academy of Arts for one year. Not knowing at the time he was going to
move to Paris to practice new styles. During that time he was working from the Blue period to the
Rose period. As these periods were going on he was practicing mastering Cubism, Surrealism, and
Realism. Georges Braque s made a contribution to Picasso in the thought of creating Cubism: as
where Picasso made major contributions in the creating of Symbolism and Surrealism. Picasso
invented the collage; this is sticking pre existing materials into new designs.

The Commercialization of Christmas Essay
The Commercialization of Christmas
Over the years, one topic which has sparked an interesting debate among intellectuals, business men
and Christians is whether or not Christmas has enrolled into an over commercialized holiday. The
period at the climax of the year, December 25th, which we celebrate as Christmas is the time when
consumers increase their spending to an outrageous level and business persons become elated as
their shelves become depleted of the products that assist in our celebrations.

has allowed the opportunistic business sharks of the world to exploit such an opportunity and

therefore the outcome of this exploitation and its increase is becoming more and more evident.
Christmas then suffers as business flourish. The actual reason for this holiday becomes so
immersed under the commercial blanket, that persons not only forget the true reason behind
Christmas but the businessmen structure their entire operations around the influx in sales during
the Christmas period.
The effect this has on the society cannot be ignored. Businesses slash prices in order to attract
their customers and the increase in sales is so high during this period that profits surpass any of
those made during the previous periods of the same year. Over working becomes the direct effect
of this over commercialization. Persons have to support their families and

Social Studies Chapter 1 Summary

WHY GEOGRAPHY MATTERS
What evidence is there for the geographical illiteracy of Americans? How did professional
educators contribute to the problem through social studies?
Chapter 1: Geography, in general, is studying where and why locations are placed on a map. To
answer these questions, you must have not only memory but skill as well. In unison, you must use
geophagic themes, concept and skill, that not many people have or are willing to have. Location,
Place, Relationship within Places, Movement, and Regions are the five guidelines for geographic
education, a branch of social studies. These were put into place by professional educator to make

Chapter 5: Rapid population growth and urbanization are the root of overpopulation which leads to
lack in resources and disease. Urbanization is when too much of a population grows in an urban
/city environment causing too many people in sharing in one small area. Thus, violence, crime and
disorder accor.
Why did Mao Zedong launch the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in 1966? What did it do?
What were its results?
Chapter 7:
Mao Zedong, a communist, launched the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution so he could
reinforce his power over the Chinese people at the time. He did not want the Soviet Union to gain
too much power. Mao then started the Red Guard, a radical group set on attacking intellectuals and
spreading the idea of socialism. This eventually caused the Chinese government to collapse. It took
many years for the Chinese people to repair the social systems and correct teachings.

An International Criminal Court
The establishment of an international criminal court was a slow, arduous process. Following the
horrific human rights violations committed by the Nazis in World War II, the global community
began to take the proper steps to combat the notion that being at war sanctions gross abuses of
human rights. It was not a lust for violence that elongated the process of establishing the ICC
(international criminal court), but rather the long time battle between accepting that the world is
increasingly affected by globalization and holding fast to the age old tradition of prizing state
sovereignty above all. The scale of the genocidecarried out against all peoples not of Aryan descent
in the 1940s was the catalyst needed to start talks about prizing guaranteed rights over the incessant
need to abide by antiquated customary law. Whilst many argue that the ICC and ad hoc tribunals
such as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) fail to provide a comprehensive international legal
framework, they serve other important purposes. Firstly, the ICC and its parent tribunals played a
major part in ending the culture of impunity. Oftentimes, in states where there are violations of
international humanitarian law, the government is wrought with corruption. Politicians and
government officials abuse the rights of their citizens and others under the guise of sovereign
immunity. Tribunals, and later the ICC,

Abnormal Psychology Vs Psychopathology Essay
1) Compare and contrast the concepts of abnormal psychology and psychopathology and the
implicit assumptions of both terms. Considering abnormal psychology is an alternative definition
of psychopathology, it is assumed they are different in the eyes of society. Psychopathology is a
term focused on the psyche (mind, soul) and a disorder (dysfunction, diseased, unhealthy and
illness). It is also based from deviations from statistical and social norms along with maladaptive
behavior, distress and impairment. Although abnormal psychologyand psychopathology are defined
the same, abnormal psychologyis often viewed from a perspective that individuals who are
suffering from mental health issues as likely to be considered abnormal either in the statistical or
the functional sense. By being identified as abnormal , it portrays that a person struggling with
psychopathology are not normal , which cultivates stigmatization (illness/dangerousness) among
society. Acknowledging that many people could be considered abnormal in a statistical sense, it
does not make that person pathological. A few great examples of an abnormal deviation would be
a group of women having a 13 shoe size, or a group of men measuring at 4 ft. Even though these
individuals fell outside the statistical norm range, they are considered abnormal; which does not
identify them to be pathological, just different.
Another good example would be a group of individuals scoring high in an IQ assessment. Although

Characteristics Of A Poorly Written Report
As a police officer, the difference between a well written and poorly written report is massive. A
poorly written report can leave out crucial points that will affect the outcome of each case. There
are certain rules of writing when writing a report, that will change a poorly written report to a well
written one.
The first rule is writing in first person. An officer should always refer to themselves as I or me.
Doing this will clearly identify you as being the person doing the investigation. It will look good to
those reading your report, and also sound good to those who will hear your testimony. This will let
the reader know that is was the officer that conducted the investigation writing the report and not a
separate person recounting details and possibly missing facts. The second rule to writing is writing
in the past tense. The events in the report have already happened, and therefore should be written
in the past tense. By writing this way, you will develop consistency, therefore creating a report
that is professional and easy to read. The third rule is to use an active voice in your report. This
style of writing shows who is doing an action, instead of a passive voice which shows who is
having something done to them. This will allow the officer to mention first who was doing the
action before stating the action itself. The fourth rule in writing is to write in chronological order.
Starting all reports with the date and time and how you as an officer got involved,

The Grasshopper And The Bell Cricket Symbolism
Franz Kafka, in The Red Indian, uses an Indian as a symbol of freedom, a life without social
constraints. In the story, the narrator longs to be an Indian suddenly vigilant on a galloping horse,
until eventually he loses the spurs and the reins, because he doesn t need them, and the horse s
neck and head vanish (Kafka 64). Essentially, he is saying that he longs for a freedom he does not
have. He wishes to simply ride away from his troubles as an Indian would. No longer bored with the
constructs of a dull society, but vigilant. Another man may ride with spurs and reins, those
constraints of society, but an Indian would be simply unbounded by these things. Thus, the symbol
of the Indian is that of freedom that the narrator longs for.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She also utilizes the lanterns as a symbol for the personalities or things we try to use to obtain
such insects (or people). For instance, Kawabata illustrates the children: Each day [...] the
children made new lanterns out of their hearts and minds. Look at my lantern! Be the most
unusually beautiful! (66). Kawabata shows that when in pursuit of insects, one must try to put
on the best front. The first child who went looking eventually discards his red lantern, because it
was too boring. Each day the children make new ones to try to have the best, just as young
adults do when pursuing a partner. We each try to have the most flashy personality and look.
Therefore, the lanterns are a type of mask that the children put on to find the most attractive bug.
The grasshopper, then, is the type of beautiful person one wants to find, and the bell cricket is
the less appealing insect. Kawabata suggests that the bell cricket is the better bug, for there are
not many bell crickets in the world (67). Probably, Kawabata says, you will find a girl like a
grasshopper whom you think is a bell cricket (67). In the end, though, even a true bell cricket will
seem like a grasshopper (Kawabata 68). These sentences seem confusing at first, but ultimately
Kawabata is saying that the person you want may not be what they seem, the person you find may
be more than they appear, and the person you love will be beautiful to you, even if they are not. In
summation, the insects symbolize the types of people or the types of relationships that one may

The Effect Of Tidal Power On The Environment
In the world today, we consume ungodly amounts of fossil fuels. Many choose to ignore that we
will indeed run out of these fuels, as for now they are here and they are cheap. So what happens
when they run out? We will need to rely on alternative forms of energy. There are several types of
alternative energysources such as wind, geothermal, solar, and tidal. Of these in the current day, the
easiest one to predict is tidal power. Tidal power, in Tom Marsik s words, is in its infant stage of
development. Tom Marsik is a professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Bristol Bay
Campus who runs the Sustainable Energy Program and has a doctorate in physics. From his
description, it is not cost effective for many places in its current state. The technology is there, but
it has not been refined and mastered. All this considered, tidal power should be a technology that
continues to be developed because it is predictable, renewable, and highly efficient.
Essentially, tidal power works like wind power in the way that it is designed. It is a submerged fan
by the looks, and its rotor is connected to a generator that creates electricity. When the tides are
moving both in and out fast enough to rotate the blades on a tidal powered generator, electricity is
generated. Pretty simple right? The concise answer is yes, but the concerns are there as well. To
begin with, electricity and water do not go together very well. To make a machine that generates
electricity underwater gets to be

Dangerous Sex Offenders
I feel that as a society we do play a role in the formation of a dangerous sex offender. I find that a
common theme replaying across the histories of various dangerous sex offenders is family
instability. In modern times the family has become more and more isolated. Instead of large
families living together, or near one another, there tends to be large geographical distances in
between them. In addition, people tend to not know or have any involvement with their neighbors
further isolating them. This social isolation seems to be lending a helping hand with the dissolution
of the family unit. More and more families seem to be single parent, second, third or more
marriages, or other family members raising children (i.e. grandparents) to

The Death Of Jay Gatsby
Perhaps one of the most iconic scenes in The Great Gatsby is where the titular character, Jay
Gatsby, or James Gatz as he was first known as, meets his untimely end. To understand the nature
of Gatsby s death, first you must know the circumstances that precede it. Myrtle, Mr. Wilson s
wife, was run over by Gatsby s car, which Daisy was driving. Driven by vengeance and the
mistaken belief that Gatsby had killed Myrtle, Mr. Wilson proceeded to murder Gatsby and then
himself. While miscommunication is often lauded as a lazy way of driving the story onwards, in
this case it fits perfectly. Jay Gatsby s life was a lie, and it was fitting that it would end over one as
well. Gatsby constructed a rich and prosperous image of himself to appeal to

Non-Consensual Property Rights
Non Consensual Property Rights
Some form of classification is necessary to aid attempts to bring order to a confusing and
confused area of law. If the events from which non consensual property rights arise can be
classified, then the law s response is more likely to be consistent and coherent. Yet there are
problems. The very nature of the facts that are brought before courts in the sorts of cases that
comprise this area of law demand fairness, and legal policy considerations lurk behind every
rationalisation. This makes it more difficult to achieve coherence, but our task is less demanding
than achieving coherence in the law: we only need to look at the sets of facts that give rise to

of the shares would be to make a takeover bid. In the end, Mr Boardman made such a bid,
successfully, in his personal capacity. However, this became an event giving rise to non consensual
property rights, a wrong, because he only gained the opportunity to do this and the information
necessary while purportedly (or actually) acting in the capacity of adviser to the trustees. Mr
Boardman did not act dishonestly in the sense that he deliberately set out to deceive the
beneficiaries. After his actions they effectively doubled their money . Viscount Dilhorne, who
dissented, was prepared to hold that the authority of Regal v Gulliver (a case with similar facts
which he distinguished on the ground that there the fiduciary held assets originally belonging to the
trust which wasn t the case in Boardman) required wrongdoing which was absent in the case

Human Overpopulation, Ocean Acidification, And Pollution
People may believe that the most important environmental issues threatening our world would be
human overpopulation, ocean acidification, and pollution. However we are forgetting how
important every environmental issue is to our planet and the humans that populate it. Ozone
depletion affects both the planet and the people. It is a very serious environmental issue that if
not solved can cost us some serious loss. The depletion of our ozone layers and the creation of
the ozone hole has occurred since the 1980 s, and it s only getting worst. The ozone layer is a form
of oxygenin the molecular form of O3. It is an unstable gas with a pungent odour, it is bluish and it

The ozone layer in the troposphere is formed from reactions between volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) . These layers are vital for the formation of weather and
distribution of radiation. Without the ozone our world would be dead and have no life, just a
radiated pile of rock.
The ozone hole is a region of the ozone layer that is thinning. This hole is as big as the USA and
is located over Antarctica. The depletion of the ozone layer in Antarctic takes place there because
of the atmospheric conditions that occurs no other place in the world. Because the temperatures
during the winter is extremely low, polar stratospheric clouds form. Polar Stratospheric are
located in the stratosphere over Antarctica and the Arctic. They also convert forms of chlorine
monoxide which are man made pollutants that get trapped in these clouds. These clouds account
for the deterioration of the ozone around Antarctica and helps in the growth of the ozone hole.
The ozone hole is also caused by gases called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and
hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) from cars, etc. Halons (brominated fluorocarbons) also have a
major effect of the formation of the hole and they can destroy up to 10 times as much ozone as
CFCs can. These gases are found in spray cans, refrigerators, air conditioners, fire extinguishers, etc.
The ozone layer is essential to both plant and animal survival on

Drinking Diet Soda Is Healthier For You Than Drinking...
Next, many consumers believe that drinking diet soda is healthier for you than drinking regular
soda filled with sugar but studies are starting to show that artificial sweeteners may actually lead
to diabetes. Mary Ann Yantis, PhD, RN, a nurse educator for Nursing Education Consultants and
Kate Hunter, RD, LD (2010), a clinical dietitian at Adventist Medical Center reports (2010) that
drinking more than one serving of diet soda per day can increase your risk of metabolic
syndrome by more than 36%. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors, which includes
hypertension, abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia. These risk factors
increase a person s risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and stroke. This same study also
reports (2010) that one diet soda per day can increase a person s risk of developing type 2 diabetes
by more the 67%. This is possibly due to the fact that artificial sweeteners can be up to 13,000 times
sweeter than sugarand this intense sweetness can be addictive thus creating cravings for more
sweetness in order to feel satisfied. Yantis and Hunter (2010) point out that the sweet taste triggers
the same dopamine signals that are also triggered by drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Craving for
more intense artificial sweetness will result in consuming more calories, increase the likelihood of
developing insulinresistance, and more than likely affect the glucose metabolism (Yantis Hunter,
2010). Another study done

Elements/Principles of Design There are a variety of elements to be considered while developing a
print media outcome. Colour is an important design element when used in print media because it
creates visual interest towards the viewer. It determines whether the brochure is noticeable enough.
This comes into consideration which is used to determine the quality of a design within print

design element formerly used in print media because it creates a distinct, more orderly design.
When aligning elements this allows them to create a visual connection with either font text,
images, or shapes. It tightens up the design and eradicates the haphazard. This element prevents
items of being randomly placed in a design. Alignment is one of the most basic and important
principles of design. It acknowledges us to create order and organisation in a design. Proximity is

Faith...is the art of holding on to things your reason once accepted, despite your changing moods
(Lewis 1952). C.S. Lewis in his writings on faith and reasoning there are inherent ideals that when
becoming a Christian are understood. Prior to belief, a person s deeper meaning of faith cannot be
understood. Unbelievers can only have a certain amount of trust in that faith; however, it is purely
practical on the part of the non Christian. As Lewis comments in his writings, there are just certain
trials and tribulations in a person s life that come and go, and then they will have to reach outside

will take effort, resolve and reason to maneuver your way through this life. Faith is rational;
whereas, our hearts can be emotional and deceitful. In Jeremiah 17:9, it states the heart can be
wicked and sick, and that can cause us to doubt our faith and lead us to not know what truth is.
Reason is what we can lean back into with the grace of faith to show us the truth. Lewis continues
throughout his text to points out that with faith in God; as you might expect, good works will

in turn, to remove intellectual obstacles to have faith in God. As Christians we must be instructed

Women In Beowulf Essay
The Hero s of Beowulf
After reading Beowulf, critics all over have disputed weather women in the book had a role in such
a masculine and brutal environment and time period. The argument is most likely due to the hero
being a male, thus minimizing woman s roles. Though their appearance is limited through out the
play, we can discover they have significant importance still. In this essay, I will offer insight on
several women and their significance in Beowulf, providing evidence of how they do serve a
central role. A number of women revealed in the play are: Wealtheow, Hygd, Hildeburh, Freawaru,
Thyrth and Grendal s mother. Within this elite group of women are two queens known as Hygd and
Wealtheow. Both are wedded to kings which,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following Grendal s death, Wealtheow gives a celebratory speech to Hrothgar and then Beowulf.
She makes sure that Beowulf does not become the heir, and tries to make Hrothulf inherit this
position. This goes to show that she is looking out for herself by not letting someone from outside
the family take over. Hrothgar does not have any further imput and does not dispute the
suggestion, thus suggesting she has some influence on the king. When she addresses Beowulf,
she tells him to accept the gift she gives to him. Through this gesture we can suggest that she is a
great hostess. Also, in Old English, noble women tended to give gifts which showed reciprocity.
To finish off her speech, she reveals confidence as she says the noble men, having drunk, will do as
I ask. (652)
This line strongly suggests her dominance in the kingdom. Yet again, we see political power
among women when Hygd tries to pass the kingdom onto Beowulf. After his death, she steps in
and tries to make important decisions that her late husband would have made. These examples all
show that these women in the play are not benign at all. These women host men in the hall, give
gifts, and even have a say in politics

Representation Of Symbolism In Herman Melville s Moby Dick
In Herman Melville s Moby Dick, the white whale has been a representation of many things,
including God, nature and specific origins of life that are beyond the control of mankind. The
quest to hunt down Moby Dick by the Pequod is seen as symbolic. For Ahab, slaying the sperm
whale is the main goal in his life. This can be extended symbolically so that the sperm whale
represents everybody s goals. His vengeance towards the sperm whale is similar to man s
struggle in contradiction of destiny. The only way out from Ahab s vision is often seen through
the Pequod s unusual meetings, called gams, with other ships. Upon finishing this novel, the
only representation that Moby Dick itself can be seen as, is a goal. Melville implies that humans
in general need to have a goal in life, or stating that such a goal can destroy one if no one ever
attains it. Although this novel was revolved around a white whale, it was not the only sea creature
that played an important role. The white whale was not the only life lesson represented in Melville
s Moby Dick, I argue that the giant squid carries numerous representations, the sharks represent
human nature and the brit represent human consciousness. In chapter 59 of the novel, Melville
highlights the significance of the form of the giant squid. Dagoo is the character who first spots
this white mass that he believes looks like Moby Dick. He and Ahab inaccurately mistake this giant
squid for Moby Dickbecause of the white color. Due to this

Breaking up unanimity of the group in given answers has a significant effect. In the experiment it
is also noted that the rate of wrong answers depends to a considerable degree on how wrong the
majority is. Even with significant difference in length of lines there were still individuals who agree
with majority error. For those participating in this experiment almost all declare that independence
was preferable to conformity. Life in society requires consensus as an indispensable conditions.
But consensus, to be productive, requires that each individual contribute independently out of
his experience and insight. (...) We have found that tendency to conformity in our society so
strong that reasonably and well meaning young people are willing to call white black is a

proven that we live in times where opinion become very subjective and can be easily modified.

Jfk, By John Fitzgerald Kennedy
On the cold blustery snow covered day of January 20, 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK)
participated in the 44th presidential inauguration, when he was sworn in as the 35th President of
The United States of America. The inauguration was almost canceled, as a result of the nor
easter, which pummeled the nation s capital hours before. In order for the inauguration to
proceed as planned, The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, thousands of D.C. employees and almost
1,700 boy scouts worked feverously to clear the area and streets of snow that finished falling just
hours before the occasion. The event went on as planned at the State Capital in front of an
enormous crowd of family, friends, famous people and supporters of JFK. Among the most notable
in attendance was JFK s wife Jackie, his mother Rose, Vice president Lyndon B. Johnson, Dwight
D. Eisenhower and 86 year old poet Robert Frost who recited poems. This was also the first time
the presidential inauguration was televised in color. With extremely unbearable weather, and a Nor
easter moving out of the area just hours before, a massive crowd gathered at the State Capital to
participate witnessing history. A crowd, full of several emotions: including excitement, fear, and
uncertainty surrounding the future and safety, not only for their great nation, but similarly the
world. The Cold Warwas progressing and multiple countries were rearing their ugly head, showing
how cowardly and evil the human race can be. Spectators were

The Pros And Cons Of The Innocence Project
The Innocence Project started in 1992 by Peter Neufeld and Barry Scheck (www.
innocenceproject.org). They helped prove that the convicted person was innocent through DNA
testing. Their mission was to free the incarcerated people and help the legal system to not make
these mistakes again. There are too many innocent people that are wrongfully accused of crimes
they did not commit. One case where the Innocence Projecthelped exonerate someone is the case
of Marvin Anderson. In July of 1982, a woman was raped by a black man and later identified him
as Marvin Anderson. Throughout his trial, people questioned the evidence and did not believe he
was guilty. Anderson even asked his own lawyers to look into other witnesses that could help prove

Racism plays a big part in this case. They assumed Anderson did it because he was black living
with a white woman. It is a good thing in this time that we have DNA testing to really prove who
was behind the crime and who is the right person to convict. It is not fair to prove someone guilty
and having that individual go through a long time in prison before finding out it was not that
individual person fault. There are a lot of different cases with people that are involved in crimes
exactly like or similar to what anderson was thought of doing. There is a quote that reads A
report on the many ways justice can go astray and an innocent person be convicted . . . an
alarming wake up call to those who administer our justice system that serious flaws must be
addressed to protect the innocent. The quote says that even if a case goes away in any way it can
come back to help a person get there life back and to not have to go through serving the time from
a crime they didn t even

Victims Rights Movement
The victims rights movement here in the United States was driven by multiple social forces and
events which resulted in the victim movement. Mainly it was fueled by the cultural environment
created by the civil rights movement, anti war movements, the women s movement, and the law
and order movement. The Civil Rights movement was a huge power source for the victims rights
movement. The movement changed the United Statesview of civil disobedience and created a
culture focused on fair treatment of all people. It assisted in instituting the principle that
constitutional rights should apply to all citizens. The antiwar movement produced grassroots
organizations. These organizations would provoke concern towards sexual assault, domestic
violence,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The NCVS collects data on all crimes including those not reported. These crimes could have been
subject to an individual or a household. They survey households in a sample for three years and
then new households are rotated in. Each year, data are obtained from a nationally representative
sample of about 135,000 households, composed of nearly 225,000 persons (Planty, Langton,
Barnett Ryan). The survey gathers detailed information on crimes including: rape, sexual assault,
aggravated and simple assault, burglarization of a household, personal robbery, and grand theft
auto. Additional information collected includes: age, sexs, races, relationship status, educational
level, income, approximate age of offender, relationship to the victim, where and when was the
crime committed, and how the victim was effected. The UCR collects their data using 22
categories provided by National Incident Based Reporting System to create an annual report titled,
Crime in the United States. These categories cover much of what the NCVS covers and then some.
The UCR Program compiles crime data from law enforcement agencies and presents crime counts
for the nation, regions, states, and cities ( Therapeutic Approaches for Sexually Abused Children
and Adolescents ). These reports proceed from monthly law enforcement reports, individual crime
incident records, and

Racial Disparity
When it comes to the War on Drugs and racial disparity, African Americans males are more likely
to receive a higher prison sentence than their white counterparts. For example, there is disparity in
sentencing regarding powder cocaine and crack cocaine. The judicial system provides a heavier
prison sentence for crack than powder, even though it is better than previously. Crack and powder
cocaine are both illegal substances that derive from the same drug, which is cocaine. Whites and
African Americandrug addicts use these drugs; however, the difference is the distribution and use
of the drugs targets distinct groups of people. White drug dealers use and sell powder cocaine more
frequently in wealthier communities. Addicts abuse crack cocaine... Show more content on

The researchers conducted to examine racial disparity in the war on drugs in suburban areas. The
population reviewed includes wealthy white drug consumers and minority drug dealers. The
researchers examined the literature related to the war on drugs, the impact on suburban families,
and minority drugs dealers. They looked at the war on drugs historically and concluded that the
blame for suburban drug use fell on minority drugs dealers. The researchers also noted that judges
sentenced affluent, suburban youth to less time and subject to the benefits of rehabilitation,
treatment, reform, and reentry. Conversely, judges sentenced minority drug dealers more severely.
It is interesting to note that although the focus of this article was the disparity between urban and
suburban drug users and dealers, the theme overlaps with the focus in the Lurigio and Loose
(2008) and Stringer and Holland (2016) research on disparity in sentencing based on

Running head: BODY ART AND ORNAMENTATION
Body Art and Ornamentation in Different Cultures
Introduction to Cultural Anthropology ANT101
July 28, 2013
There is no culture in which people do not, or did not paint, pierce, tattoo, reshape, or simply adorn
their bodies (Schildkrout, 2001). Throughout history, body artand ornamentation has become a
worldwide phenomenon and has played a key role in our lives, yet there is a social stigma which we
cannot seem to rid ourselves of. It is most commonly misunderstood and misinterpreted which can
be attributed to the fact that the symbolism and significance of the body art and/or ornamentation
doesn t always translate the same among the cultures. Although Western cultureviews body art ...

Looking from another culture s perspective, the various forms of African body art and
ornamentation are seen as being weird, out of the ordinary, and we don t understand the
importance they hold within these African cultures. On the other hand, there are other cultures
such as the Japanese, who instead of outwardly portraying their body art and ornamentation will
instead conceal it so it won t be visible at all. The first signs of body art and ornamentation which
appear in the Japanese culture were first noted as originating all the way back to AD 297 (Rapp,
2010). Back then, tattoos would signify which occupational group certain men belonged to and
men, both young and old, would get tattoos all over their bodies including their faces. Men would
even go as far as getting full body tattoos which could be found on laborers, firemen, and gangsters
(Hopkins Tanne, 2000). The Chinese considered all Japanese tattoos an act of barbarism and was
perceived as being extremely negative. The body art and ornamentation that exists and has existed
within the Japanese culture spreads beyond just tattooing and there are a few other methods that
they used.
First, many married Japanese women or courtesan in the 10th through 19th centuries would apply a
paste to their teeth which would blacken them (Schildkrout, 2001). This was considered as being
beautiful as well as sexually appealing to where as

The Repeated Failure of the League of Nations in Keeping Peace
The League of Nations repeatedly failed in keeping the peace because, first of all Hitler went
against the Treaty of Versailles and started World War 2 yet the League of Nations failed to
react. The Treaty of Versailles also failed because Mussolini in Abyssinia went against the league
and Manchuria also contributed towards the failure to keep the peace. The structure of the league
didnГ‚ t help as the council only met once a year. The power of the league was very weak as there
was no military force. Finally the lack of strong nations joining the league contributed to the failure
of the League of Nations.

The League of Nations also failed because Mussolini, a dictator from Italy, prepared to invade
Abyssinia. Abyssinia then asked the League for help; while the League of Nations talked to
Mussolini he used the time to send an army into Africa. The League of Nations then suggested
giving Abyssinia to Italy. Mussolini ignored the League of Nations and invaded Abyssinia. In
secret however Britain and France agreed to give Abyssinia to Italy, the Hoare Laval Pact.
Manchuria became a factor or the failure of the League of Nations in 1932 when the Japanese
army invaded Manchuria and threw out the Chinese residents. They then set up their own
government called the Г‚ ManchoukuoГ‚ . When china asked the League of Nations for help it
sent a group of officials led by Lord Lytton to study the problem, this however took a year, but in
February 1933 they ordered Japan to leave Manchuria.
However Japan refused to leave Manchuria and instead left the League of Nations. As many
countries had important trading links with Japan the League of Nations couldnГ‚ t agree on
sanctions or even ban weapon sales. Britain and France didnГ‚ t want a war therefore nothing was
done. This showed the League of Nations as weak and powerless therefore adding to the failures
and breakdown of the League of Nations.
The way the League of Nations was

  • 2. Robert Frost Research Papers [Simply said], Robert Frost was an intriguing man. [In the span of his career], he was awarded four Pulitzer prizes and recited a poem at John F. Kennedy s inauguration. Many of his poems had underlying messages that would influence many people, even today. [In short], many of Frost s poems give life lessons and enlighten the readers on the subjects of nature and life altogether, making Robert Frostan outstanding poet in American History. Robert Lee Frost, named after the famous Southern General Robert E. Lee, was brought into this world on March 26, 1874, in San Francisco, California. He was born to William Frost, Jr. and Isabelle Frost. Throughout his childhood, his only sibling was his sister, Jeanie. When Robert Frost was 11 years old,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first theme, the outdoors, is best revealed in his poem The Road Not Taken. In this poem, Frost uses a fork in a road to describe making decisions in life. Given the main idea, most likely the poem is referring to Frost s decision to leave farming to follow poetry. Frost uses five lines of poetry in each verse with similar length. Using the technique of inferring, analysts can conclude that the poem relates to the theme of perfect decision making. It shows that decisions can not always be perfect. Frost uses symbolism and imagery to display a visual representation of a decision. For example, in lines 1 2 Frost uses the fork in the road in a forest as a reference to a decision with two choices. He evaluates each side (trade offs in a decision) and chooses a side as in lines 4 5. Shortly after, he describes the side he chose. He says the road was grassy and that it was not worn. This creates not only a mental image but the realization that one side can visually appear better than the other. On line 12, he states that there are leaves on the ground which we can picture and also believe that it is autumn. From line 16 to 20, he repeats the first stanza. This represents the reflection of his decision. Although he repeated the first stanza, Frost removed the word yellow, that described the woods, and also said that he chose the one less traveled, and he did not regret it. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I / I took the one less traveled by, / And that has made all the difference (The Road Not Taken). Frost does this to show that decision making can be hard, but it is best to evaluate and choose the decision that is best suitable, not what everyone else chooses. Throughout this poem, Frost tries to bring attention to questionable/uneducated decisions in life and make the best of them through his tone and word choice. Frost s theme of imperfection can be seen either ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even within the Hellenistic period, between 323 to 30 BCE and the ending period of Greeks in power, advancements were made to not only movement of the human figure in sculptor but what expression they held (Gardner 153). During this period Greece had become providence to Rome, and under patronage of Roman leaders came the marble statue of LacoГ¶n and his sons, depicting story of the Gods revenge on the Trojan priest after his failed attempt to warn the Trojan army of the Greek s plans with the wooden horse. Attributed to three sculptors, Athanadoros, Hagesandros, and Polydoros of Rhodes, this marble statue stands 7 10 ВЅ tall, the tallest being LacoГ¶n himself in the center and his two sons on opposite sides. The three men are twisting and contorting their bodies, attempting to free themselves from the massive snake sent by the gods, all three of their expressions show they are in pain from the strung. LacoГ¶n s face is contorted with the most agony from the snake biting him in his left hip (162). The expression of pain within all three figures shows the evolution of how Greek sculptors depicted humans in art, along with the advancement to how movement is portrayed. This statue would also play a role in inspiring how sculptors of the Renaissance would work with marble, and was even unearthed in Rome during this time, in 1506, in front of ... • 5. Biography of Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln was a self educated lawyer who did not support slavery. He surprised many people when he became the 16th President mainly because he beat out several promising contenders. During the Civil War Lincoln became quite brilliant with military strategy and an excellent wartime leader. With the Union on the brink of victory Lincoln became a martyr when he was shot and killed by a Confederate sympathizer by the name of John Wilkes Booth. Over time Lincoln became known as one of the greatest Presidents of all time. Abraham Lincoln was born February 12 1809 in Hardin County Kentucky to Thomas and Nancy Lincoln. In 1816 his family moved to southern Indiana. Lincoln had little formal education due to the fact that he ahd to work to help support his family. Lincolns mother died when he was only nine, and as a young boy he took that pretty rough. Abraham quickly began to resent his father for all the work that was placed on him at a young age. His father remarried a Kentucky widow with three children of her own. Although Lincolns parents were probably illiterate, Sarah encouraged Abraham to read. It wasn t till he was a young man that he received most of his formal education. It would come in days or weeks at a time. Books were scarce in the backwoods of Indiana, so Lincoln would read the Bible or other popular books of that time such as Robinson Crusoe and several others. • 8. Math and Graph Models Behind the Olympic Paul Vault Jump Introduction Every 4 years, the Olympic games is a major event around the world. International athletes come together to represent their own country at a sport. A gold medal is given to the winner of each game. This math internal assessment aims to consider the trends of the wining men gold medalist s pole vault height from 1932 to 2008, and predicting 1940 and 1944 record, when the Olympic games were not held due to the world war. Data Height Record 1932 2008 The table below shows the men pole vault gold medalists at various Olympic games between 1932 and 2008. Table 1: the winning heights of men s pole vault in Olympic games for years between 1932 and 2008. (Excluding 1940 and 1944) Year193219361948195219561960196419681972... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The war, however, stopped the improvement of the heights record. Therefore, we could deduce that the depression between 1936 and 1948 was due to lack of training due to the war. When the games resumed in 1948, the athletes started to progress their record once again. As you can see above, we could refine our model, disregarding the 1932 and 1936 record. Graph 5: Graph of winning heights (m) against years since 1948 This refined model is better representation of data than graph 1 and 2 even if the line does not pass through every point. Passing through point increased from 2 to 3 (4, 52 and 56) and majority of points are very close to the line. It is true that some points, such as point 16 and 20 quite far from the line, but these points can be disregarded in this model, as the line is touching the following point 24. This gives the new linear equation y=0.0264x+4.4338 However, even though refined graph has better equation than those of past one, there are some limitations with using linear equation to determine the graph. Since a linear graph increases infinitely, and as humans have restraints to achieve to record, their winning height can t keep increasing at this rate. It is not sustainable. Natural Logarithm Model After considering the limitation of linear function and graph, I have discovered applying any model of equation that has an infinite increase range, such as quadratic or exponential, is unrealistic, since the ... • 9. Positive And Negative Effects Of Imperialism In Japan Imperialism affected many African colonies in both positive and negative ways. Two major colonies that were affected, Korea and the Congo, are currently still suffering, as well as improving from the effects of imperialism. Imperialism is when a nation wants to get control of foreign lands to increase the nation s power or for more resources. Japan wanted to get land from Koreaand Belgium wanted to get control of the land of the Congo. They colonies took extreme measures to get what they wanted and there were positive and negative outcomes from this. Japan imperialize Korea from 1910 to 1945. During this time, Japan was very harsh and Koreans were not treated fairly. In a article it states that Korean labor was what was needed and Japanese got just that (Large, Stephen S). Korean woman worked in factories and most Koreans who were in the military would die first. Japan ruled directly by military and Koreans were under supervision of the army (Beasley, W.G) so when they disagreed with anything, they would be quickly punished or even killed. The colony was affected a lot by this imperialism. Japan was affected by three aspects of national life: security, economy, and its society, and culture and imperialism Korea did not cause fundamental change just modified them (Large, Stephen S.). This is meaning that by imperialising Korea its helping out Japan become more modernized but while doing this it s destroying Korea physically, and mentally. In a article from a student at ... • 11. Sir Isaac Newton s Three Laws Of Motion Tragedies and accidents are considered to be catastrophic events. With the help of Sir Isaac Newton s three laws of motion, these events can easily be explained. Sir Isaac Newton s three laws of motion are rules of nature which provide the means to see how so many aspects of life beautifully connect with one another. The first law consists of objects that are at rest remain at rest and vice versa for objects in motion. The second law relates to behavior of objects in which existing forces are not balanced. The third law consists of action reaction. Overall, Sir Isaac Newton was one of the most important and influential scientists because of all of his discoveries. Newton s first law of motion is often stated as: An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force ( Newton s First Law ). To put it into simpler terms, an object will not change its motion unless an unbalanced force comes in contact. This property in which objects withstand change in motion is known as inertia. Amounts of inertia are measured by mass. Objects, which have a greater mass, need a larger amount of force in order to change their motion. An example of inertia, is hitting a tree as you are traveling in your car at a high speeds. The car will come to an instant stop, but the seat belt and friction between the passenger and the seat will prevent the passenger from being catapulted forward. Many ... • 17. Pablo Picasso Contributions Pablo Picasso was a significant man. During the twentieth century he was known as one of the most influential artist. Picasso was not a man to jump in the boat of mainstream. If society had a ranking chart, he would be at the top in the art realm. Creating ones own type of art shows characteristics of adaptation, loud opinions, realness, taking head to their emotions, come to find the solutions to their problems, and acceptance. As a little boy born in Malaga, Spain on October 25, 1881, his parents did not know he would be a child prodigy. An expatriate painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer; just shows how diverse he was. Not just a basic love for art did he have, some say he was radical in his work. Over thee fourths of his life, he devoted his whole being to his art, he believed this was the best thing for his body. As a 14 year old, he began putting his work out in the open. He believed that leaving Spain and set out towards Paris would help him further his love for art. A young boy with self confidence, strong will, and a mind focused on enormous dreams. From a young age Pablo knew he wanted to be a creator. He wanted to paint, sculpt, draw, etc. for the entertainment of others. His father was also an artist, so here is where Picasso found his love for art. Growing up around his fathers relish and passion for art; he was accustomed to the things an artist has to do to pursue their dream. Picasso also saw his father as an educator, as he was a professor at the school of fine arts as well as a curator at the museum in Malaga. When he grew old enough, Picasso studied under his father for one year at the school of fine arts: then he decided to transfer to the Academy of Arts for one year. Not knowing at the time he was going to move to Paris to practice new styles. During that time he was working from the Blue period to the Rose period. As these periods were going on he was practicing mastering Cubism, Surrealism, and Realism. The Oxford Study Dictionary describes the term commercialize as to make commercial or to alter in order to make profitable . In light of this definition, I certainly believe that it has become too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those gifts, which we offer as tokens are representative of the gifts, were brought be the Three Wise Men for Jesus on his day of birth. Commercialization, however, escalates because the fruits of our own labour do not make many of the gifts that are traded. It is substantially more convenient to stroll into any department store or corner shop and purchase a gift which one deems as appropriate for the occasion. This convenience has allowed the opportunistic business sharks of the world to exploit such an opportunity and diminish the importance of one of Christianity s most significant holidays. Commercialization is therefore the outcome of this exploitation and its increase is becoming more and more evident. Christmas then suffers as business flourish. The actual reason for this holiday becomes so immersed under the commercial blanket, that persons not only forget the true reason behind Christmas but the businessmen structure their entire operations around the influx in sales during the Christmas period. The effect this has on the society cannot be ignored. Businesses slash prices in order to attract their customers and the increase in sales is so high during this period that profits surpass any of those made during the previous periods of the same year. Over working becomes the direct effect of this over commercialization. Persons have to support their families and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. An International Criminal Court The establishment of an international criminal court was a slow, arduous process. Following the horrific human rights violations committed by the Nazis in World War II, the global community began to take the proper steps to combat the notion that being at war sanctions gross abuses of human rights. It was not a lust for violence that elongated the process of establishing the ICC (international criminal court), but rather the long time battle between accepting that the world is increasingly affected by globalization and holding fast to the age old tradition of prizing state sovereignty above all. The scale of the genocidecarried out against all peoples not of Aryan descent in the 1940s was the catalyst needed to start talks about prizing guaranteed rights over the incessant need to abide by antiquated customary law. Whilst many argue that the ICC and ad hoc tribunals such as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) fail to provide a comprehensive international legal framework, they serve other important purposes. Firstly, the ICC and its parent tribunals played a major part in ending the culture of impunity. Oftentimes, in states where there are violations of international humanitarian law, the government is wrought with corruption. Politicians and government officials abuse the rights of their citizens and others under the guise of sovereign immunity. Tribunals, and later the ICC, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Abnormal Psychology Vs Psychopathology Essay 1) Compare and contrast the concepts of abnormal psychology and psychopathology and the implicit assumptions of both terms. Considering abnormal psychology is an alternative definition of psychopathology, it is assumed they are different in the eyes of society. Psychopathology is a term focused on the psyche (mind, soul) and a disorder (dysfunction, diseased, unhealthy and illness). It is also based from deviations from statistical and social norms along with maladaptive behavior, distress and impairment. Although abnormal psychologyand psychopathology are defined the same, abnormal psychologyis often viewed from a perspective that individuals who are suffering from mental health issues as likely to be considered abnormal either in the statistical or the functional sense. By being identified as abnormal , it portrays that a person struggling with psychopathology are not normal , which cultivates stigmatization (illness/dangerousness) among society. Acknowledging that many people could be considered abnormal in a statistical sense, it does not make that person pathological. A few great examples of an abnormal deviation would be a group of women having a 13 shoe size, or a group of men measuring at 4 ft. Even though these individuals fell outside the statistical norm range, they are considered abnormal; which does not identify them to be pathological, just different. Another good example would be a group of individuals scoring high in an IQ assessment. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Characteristics Of A Poorly Written Report As a police officer, the difference between a well written and poorly written report is massive. A poorly written report can leave out crucial points that will affect the outcome of each case. There are certain rules of writing when writing a report, that will change a poorly written report to a well written one. The first rule is writing in first person. An officer should always refer to themselves as I or me. Doing this will clearly identify you as being the person doing the investigation. It will look good to those reading your report, and also sound good to those who will hear your testimony. This will let the reader know that is was the officer that conducted the investigation writing the report and not a separate person recounting details and possibly missing facts. The second rule to writing is writing in the past tense. The events in the report have already happened, and therefore should be written in the past tense. By writing this way, you will develop consistency, therefore creating a report that is professional and easy to read. The third rule is to use an active voice in your report. This style of writing shows who is doing an action, instead of a passive voice which shows who is having something done to them. This will allow the officer to mention first who was doing the action before stating the action itself. The fourth rule in writing is to write in chronological order. • 24. The Grasshopper And The Bell Cricket Symbolism Franz Kafka, in The Red Indian, uses an Indian as a symbol of freedom, a life without social constraints. In the story, the narrator longs to be an Indian suddenly vigilant on a galloping horse, until eventually he loses the spurs and the reins, because he doesn t need them, and the horse s neck and head vanish (Kafka 64). Essentially, he is saying that he longs for a freedom he does not have. He wishes to simply ride away from his troubles as an Indian would. No longer bored with the constructs of a dull society, but vigilant. Another man may ride with spurs and reins, those constraints of society, but an Indian would be simply unbounded by these things. Thus, the symbol of the Indian is that of freedom that the narrator longs for.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also utilizes the lanterns as a symbol for the personalities or things we try to use to obtain such insects (or people). For instance, Kawabata illustrates the children: Each day [...] the children made new lanterns out of their hearts and minds. Look at my lantern! Be the most unusually beautiful! (66). Kawabata shows that when in pursuit of insects, one must try to put on the best front. The first child who went looking eventually discards his red lantern, because it was too boring. Each day the children make new ones to try to have the best, just as young adults do when pursuing a partner. We each try to have the most flashy personality and look. Therefore, the lanterns are a type of mask that the children put on to find the most attractive bug. The grasshopper, then, is the type of beautiful person one wants to find, and the bell cricket is the less appealing insect. Kawabata suggests that the bell cricket is the better bug, for there are not many bell crickets in the world (67). Probably, Kawabata says, you will find a girl like a grasshopper whom you think is a bell cricket (67). In the end, though, even a true bell cricket will seem like a grasshopper (Kawabata 68). These sentences seem confusing at first, but ultimately Kawabata is saying that the person you want may not be what they seem, the person you find may be more than they appear, and the person you love will be beautiful to you, even if they are not. • 25. The Effect Of Tidal Power On The Environment In the world today, we consume ungodly amounts of fossil fuels. Many choose to ignore that we will indeed run out of these fuels, as for now they are here and they are cheap. So what happens when they run out? We will need to rely on alternative forms of energy. There are several types of alternative energysources such as wind, geothermal, solar, and tidal. Of these in the current day, the easiest one to predict is tidal power. Tidal power, in Tom Marsik s words, is in its infant stage of development. Tom Marsik is a professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Bristol Bay Campus who runs the Sustainable Energy Program and has a doctorate in physics. From his description, it is not cost effective for many places in its current state. The technology is there, but it has not been refined and mastered. All this considered, tidal power should be a technology that continues to be developed because it is predictable, renewable, and highly efficient. Essentially, tidal power works like wind power in the way that it is designed. It is a submerged fan by the looks, and its rotor is connected to a generator that creates electricity. When the tides are moving both in and out fast enough to rotate the blades on a tidal powered generator, electricity is generated. Pretty simple right? The concise answer is yes, but the concerns are there as well. To begin with, electricity and water do not go together very well. In addition, people tend to not know or have any involvement with their neighbors further isolating them. The very nature of the facts that are brought before courts in the sorts of cases that comprise this area of law demand fairness, and legal policy considerations lurk behind every rationalisation. The ozone hole is a region of the ozone layer that is thinning. This hole is as big as the USA and is located over Antarctica. The depletion of the ozone layer in Antarctic takes place there because of the atmospheric conditions that occurs no other place in the world. Because the temperatures during the winter is extremely low, polar stratospheric clouds form. Polar Stratospheric are located in the stratosphere over Antarctica and the Arctic. They also convert forms of chlorine monoxide which are man made pollutants that get trapped in these clouds. These clouds account for the deterioration of the ozone around Antarctica and helps in the growth of the ozone hole. The ozone hole is also caused by gases called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) from cars, etc. Halons (brominated fluorocarbons) also have a major effect of the formation of the hole and they can destroy up to 10 times as much ozone as CFCs can. Next, many consumers believe that drinking diet soda is healthier for you than drinking regular soda filled with sugar but studies are starting to show that artificial sweeteners may actually lead to diabetes. Mary Ann Yantis, PhD, RN, a nurse educator for Nursing Education Consultants and Kate Hunter, RD, LD (2010), a clinical dietitian at Adventist Medical Center reports (2010) that drinking more than one serving of diet soda per day can increase your risk of metabolic syndrome by more than 36%. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors, which includes hypertension, abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia. These risk factors increase a person s risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and stroke. This same study also reports (2010) that one diet soda per day can increase a person s risk of developing type 2 diabetes by more the 67%. This is possibly due to the fact that artificial sweeteners can be up to 13,000 times sweeter than sugarand this intense sweetness can be addictive thus creating cravings for more sweetness in order to feel satisfied. Yantis and Hunter (2010) point out that the sweet taste triggers the same dopamine signals that are also triggered by drugs such as cocaine and heroin. Craving for more intense artificial sweetness will result in consuming more calories, increase the likelihood of developing insulinresistance, and more than likely affect the glucose metabolism (Yantis Hunter, 2010). Colour is an important design element when used in print media because it creates visual interest towards the viewer. It determines whether the brochure is noticeable enough. This comes into consideration which is used to determine the quality of a design within print media. Colour can generate emotions as well as depict feeling. Alignment is also an important design element formerly used in print media because it creates a distinct, more orderly design. When aligning elements this allows them to create a visual connection with either font text, images, or shapes. It tightens up the design and eradicates the haphazard. In this essay, I will offer insight on several women and their significance in Beowulf, providing evidence of how they do serve a central role. Hrothgar does not have any further imput and does not dispute the suggestion, thus suggesting she has some influence on the king. When she addresses Beowulf, she tells him to accept the gift she gives to him. Through this gesture we can suggest that she is a great hostess. Also, in Old English, noble women tended to give gifts which showed reciprocity. To finish off her speech, she reveals confidence as she says the noble men, having drunk, will do as I ask. (652) This line strongly suggests her dominance in the kingdom. Yet again, we see political power among women when Hygd tries to pass the kingdom onto Beowulf. Representation Of Symbolism In Herman Melville s Moby Dick In Herman Melville s Moby Dick, the white whale has been a representation of many things, including God, nature and specific origins of life that are beyond the control of mankind. The quest to hunt down Moby Dick by the Pequod is seen as symbolic. For Ahab, slaying the sperm whale is the main goal in his life. This can be extended symbolically so that the sperm whale represents everybody s goals. His vengeance towards the sperm whale is similar to man s struggle in contradiction of destiny. The only way out from Ahab s vision is often seen through the Pequod s unusual meetings, called gams, with other ships. Upon finishing this novel, the only representation that Moby Dick itself can be seen as, is a goal. Melville implies that humans in general need to have a goal in life, or stating that such a goal can destroy one if no one ever attains it. Although this novel was revolved around a white whale, it was not the only sea creature that played an important role. The white whale was not the only life lesson represented in Melville s Moby Dick, I argue that the giant squid carries numerous representations, the sharks represent human nature and the brit represent human consciousness. In chapter 59 of the novel, Melville highlights the significance of the form of the giant squid. Dagoo is the character who first spots this white mass that he believes looks like Moby Dick. Jfk, By John Fitzgerald Kennedy On the cold blustery snow covered day of January 20, 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) participated in the 44th presidential inauguration, when he was sworn in as the 35th President of The United States of America. The inauguration was almost canceled, as a result of the nor easter, which pummeled the nation s capital hours before. In order for the inauguration to proceed as planned, The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, thousands of D.C. employees and almost 1,700 boy scouts worked feverously to clear the area and streets of snow that finished falling just hours before the occasion. The event went on as planned at the State Capital in front of an enormous crowd of family, friends, famous people and supporters of JFK. Among the most notable in attendance was JFK s wife Jackie, his mother Rose, Vice president Lyndon B. Johnson, Dwight D. Eisenhower and 86 year old poet Robert Frost who recited poems. This was also the first time the presidential inauguration was televised in color. With extremely unbearable weather, and a Nor easter moving out of the area just hours before, a massive crowd gathered at the State Capital to participate witnessing history. A crowd, full of several emotions: including excitement, fear, and uncertainty surrounding the future and safety, not only for their great nation, but similarly the world. The Cold Warwas progressing and multiple countries were rearing their ugly head, showing how cowardly and evil the human race can be. Spectators were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Pros And Cons Of The Innocence Project The Innocence Project started in 1992 by Peter Neufeld and Barry Scheck (www. innocenceproject.org). They helped prove that the convicted person was innocent through DNA testing. Their mission was to free the incarcerated people and help the legal system to not make these mistakes again. There are too many innocent people that are wrongfully accused of crimes they did not commit. One case where the Innocence Projecthelped exonerate someone is the case of Marvin Anderson. In July of 1982, a woman was raped by a black man and later identified him as Marvin Anderson. Throughout his trial, people questioned the evidence and did not believe he was guilty. Anderson even asked his own lawyers to look into other witnesses that could help prove his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Racism plays a big part in this case. They assumed Anderson did it because he was black living with a white woman. It is a good thing in this time that we have DNA testing to really prove who was behind the crime and who is the right person to convict. It is not fair to prove someone guilty and having that individual go through a long time in prison before finding out it was not that individual person fault. There are a lot of different cases with people that are involved in crimes exactly like or similar to what anderson was thought of doing. There is a quote that reads A report on the many ways justice can go astray and an innocent person be convicted . . . an alarming wake up call to those who administer our justice system that serious flaws must be addressed to protect the innocent. The quote says that even if a case goes away in any way it can come back to help a person get there life back and to not have to go through serving the time from a crime they didn t even ... Mainly it was fueled by the cultural environment created by the civil rights movement, anti war movements, the women s movement, and the law and order movement. The Civil Rights movement was a huge power source for the victims rights movement. These crimes could have been subject to an individual or a household. They survey households in a sample for three years and then new households are rotated in. Each year, data are obtained from a nationally representative sample of about 135,000 households, composed of nearly 225,000 persons (Planty, Langton, Barnett Ryan). The survey gathers detailed information on crimes including: rape, sexual assault, aggravated and simple assault, burglarization of a household, personal robbery, and grand theft auto. Additional information collected includes: age, sexs, races, relationship status, educational level, income, approximate age of offender, relationship to the victim, where and when was the crime committed, and how the victim was effected. The UCR collects their data using 22 categories provided by National Incident Based Reporting System to create an annual report titled, Crime in the United States. These categories cover much of what the NCVS covers and then some. The UCR Program compiles crime data from law enforcement agencies and presents crime counts for the nation, regions, states, and cities ( Therapeutic Approaches for Sexually Abused Children and Adolescents ). • 43. Racial Disparity When it comes to the War on Drugs and racial disparity, African Americans males are more likely to receive a higher prison sentence than their white counterparts. For example, there is disparity in sentencing regarding powder cocaine and crack cocaine. The judicial system provides a heavier prison sentence for crack than powder, even though it is better than previously. Crack and powder cocaine are both illegal substances that derive from the same drug, which is cocaine. Whites and African Americandrug addicts use these drugs; however, the difference is the distribution and use of the drugs targets distinct groups of people. White drug dealers use and sell powder cocaine more frequently in wealthier communities. Addicts abuse crack cocaine... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The researchers conducted to examine racial disparity in the war on drugs in suburban areas. The population reviewed includes wealthy white drug consumers and minority drug dealers. The researchers examined the literature related to the war on drugs, the impact on suburban families, and minority drugs dealers. They looked at the war on drugs historically and concluded that the blame for suburban drug use fell on minority drugs dealers. The researchers also noted that judges sentenced affluent, suburban youth to less time and subject to the benefits of rehabilitation, treatment, reform, and reentry. Conversely, judges sentenced minority drug dealers more severely. It is interesting to note that although the focus of this article was the disparity between urban and suburban drug users and dealers, the theme overlaps with the focus in the Lurigio and Loose (2008) and Stringer and Holland (2016) research on disparity in sentencing based on ... Body Art and Ornamentation Essays Running head: BODY ART AND ORNAMENTATION Body Art and Ornamentation in Different Cultures Introduction to Cultural Anthropology ANT101 July 28, 2013 There is no culture in which people do not, or did not paint, pierce, tattoo, reshape, or simply adorn their bodies (Schildkrout, 2001). Throughout history, body artand ornamentation has become a worldwide phenomenon and has played a key role in our lives, yet there is a social stigma which we cannot seem to rid ourselves of. It is most commonly misunderstood and misinterpreted which can be attributed to the fact that the symbolism and significance of the body art and/or ornamentation doesn t always translate the same among the cultures. Although Western cultureviews body art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking from another culture s perspective, the various forms of African body art and ornamentation are seen as being weird, out of the ordinary, and we don t understand the importance they hold within these African cultures. On the other hand, there are other cultures such as the Japanese, who instead of outwardly portraying their body art and ornamentation will instead conceal it so it won t be visible at all. The first signs of body art and ornamentation which appear in the Japanese culture were first noted as originating all the way back to AD 297 (Rapp, 2010). Back then, tattoos would signify which occupational group certain men belonged to and men, both young and old, would get tattoos all over their bodies including their faces. Men would even go as far as getting full body tattoos which could be found on laborers, firemen, and gangsters (Hopkins Tanne, 2000). The Chinese considered all Japanese tattoos an act of barbarism and was perceived as being extremely negative. The body art and ornamentation that exists and has existed within the Japanese culture spreads beyond just tattooing and there are a few other methods that they used. First, many married Japanese women or courtesan in the 10th through 19th centuries would apply a paste to their teeth which would blacken them (Schildkrout, 2001). The Repeated Failure of the League of Nations in Keeping Peace The League of Nations repeatedly failed in keeping the peace because, first of all Hitler went against the Treaty of Versailles and started World War 2 yet the League of Nations failed to react. The Treaty of Versailles also failed because Mussolini in Abyssinia went against the league and Manchuria also contributed towards the failure to keep the peace. The structure of the league didnГ‚ t help as the council only met once a year. The power of the league was very weak as there was no military force. The League of Nations also failed because Mussolini, a dictator from Italy, prepared to invade Abyssinia. Abyssinia then asked the League for help; while the League of Nations talked to Mussolini he used the time to send an army into Africa. The League of Nations then suggested giving Abyssinia to Italy. Mussolini ignored the League of Nations and invaded Abyssinia. In secret however Britain and France agreed to give Abyssinia to Italy, the Hoare Laval Pact. Manchuria became a factor or the failure of the League of Nations in 1932 when the Japanese army invaded Manchuria and threw out the Chinese residents. They then set up their own government called the Г‚ ManchoukuoГ‚ . When china asked the League of Nations for help it sent a group of officials led by Lord Lytton to study the problem, this however took a year, but in February 1933 they ordered Japan to leave Manchuria. However Japan refused to leave Manchuria and instead left the League of Nations. As many countries had important trading links with Japan the League of Nations couldnГ‚ t agree on sanctions or even ban weapon sales. Britain and France didnГ‚ t want a war therefore nothing was done. This showed the League of Nations as weak and powerless therefore adding to the failures and breakdown of the League of Nations.
