Tilt-Up Definition
The term “Tilt-Up” was coined in
the late 1940’s to describe a
method for constructing concrete
walls rapidly and economically
without the formwork necessary
for poured-in-place walls. It is a
two step process.
Introduction to Tilt-Up
Concrete
 2,000 years ago, Roman builder
 Pioneered in the USA around 1908
 Practiced in New Zealand 1950’s
 W.J. (Bill) Lovell-Smith Contribution
 Tilt-Up,” “tilt-wall”, “site-cast
precast concrete walls.”, “Precast
