Hope for Children Case Study: Street and working childrenKevin Redmayne
The document discusses street children around the world and an organization called Hope for Children that works to help them. It estimates there are up to 100 million street children globally, who often live bleak and short lives contending with abuse, discrimination, and poverty. Hope for Children works in several countries, including Ghana, India, the Philippines, and Uganda, running various projects that aim to provide education, vocational training, income opportunities, and rescue children from exploitation to give them a chance at a better life. The impact of their work includes over 2500 at-risk children in Ghana now attending school, 1500 switching from manual labor to education, and 200 women gaining income-generating opportunities.
The document provides ideas to improve India in various areas such as culture, population control, corruption, child labor, poverty, literacy, and terrorism. It suggests promoting traditional Indian culture, implementing strict population control measures like China's one-child policy, imposing severe punishments for corruption, preventing child labor and supporting orphaned children, providing employment opportunities to uplift the poor, expanding computer education to increase literacy rates rapidly, and strengthening border security to counter terrorism. The overall goal is for a developed India through implementing these recommendations.
Smallscale composting can help put the brakes on youth immigration in NigerICRISAT
A small group of youth from Niger learned a fast-paced composting technique. Their learnings are not only helping return profits but are also helping sustainably improve agriculture in their villages. More importantly, the composting business has allowed the members of the group to eke out a living in their villages without having to migrate for it.
The document discusses issues faced by migrant workers globally. It notes that millions of people migrate internationally for work each year to find better opportunities and living standards. However, migrant workers often find themselves in low-wage jobs with difficult conditions, referred to as the "three Ds" - dirty, dangerous and degrading work. Their home countries also face challenges like loss of skilled labor. The document proposes raising awareness of these issues and helping migrant workers through donations to Kiva, an organization that provides loans to entrepreneurs around the world.
This document provides a summary of child labour around the world in 3 paragraphs. It defines child labour and outlines its history, including widespread child labour in the 19th-early 20th centuries in Western nations and colonies. It notes that while laws now prohibit child labour, over 150 million children still work, primarily in agriculture, domestic work, and small businesses. The document concludes by discussing causes of child labour like poverty and lack of schooling alternatives, as well as international efforts to eliminate child labour.
1) The document discusses the Polished Man campaign run by YGAP from October 1-15 to raise awareness and funds to end violence against children. It notes that 1 in 5 children globally experience violence.
2) YGAP's vision is a world without poverty or violence, where all people have access to education, housing, jobs, and are free from disease and violence. The campaign originated from YGAP CEO Elliot Costello meeting a young Cambodian girl who had experienced abuse.
3) Getting involved in the campaign through donations or wearing nail polish raises awareness, helps tackle the root causes of violence through programs addressing poverty, and provides emergency support to child victims of abuse.
The document summarizes the work and impact of Yobel International, an organization that provides entrepreneurship training to communities in developing nations. It details that Yobel's training programs cost $300 per person and have a $18 return on investment. Sponsoring an entire training for $10,000 results in life-changing knowledge for 35+ entrepreneurs who will then mentor 840+ community members. The organization seeks to reduce poverty and vulnerability through business education and opportunities. Yobel has impacted over 800 families in 9 nations, improved the futures of 4,000 children, and seen increased incomes and financial stability among graduates.
Child labor is a significant problem in Pakistan, with over 3.8 million children aged 5-14 working. It negatively impacts children's health, education, and development. Common forms of child labor in Pakistan include carpet weaving, soccer ball stitching, automobile workshops, and agriculture. Children face injuries, lung diseases, stunted growth, and mental impacts from unsafe and exploitative working conditions. While Pakistan has enacted some laws against the worst forms of child labor, enforcement is lacking and millions of children remain out of school. International organizations and activists are working to raise awareness and end child labor, but face challenges from a lack of political will.

Other factors include lack of access to education, large family sizes, and failure of the government to enforce laws against child labor. Hazardous industries where children commonly work include agriculture, carpet weaving, soccer ball production, auto workshops, mining and more. The document calls for action to uphold children's rights and provide families alternatives to child labor.

This newsletter provides information about various charitable projects in Kenya run by the grassroots arm of the international charity BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. The main projects discussed are the Mother and Baby Project, which provides prenatal and postnatal care to vulnerable mothers and children, the Health, Sport, and Education Project which increases access to these services, and the Kleen-Up a Village Project focused on environmental clean-up. It encourages people to become Ambassadors or Agents for Change to help fundraise and support the projects through donations of supply packs, and announces an upcoming medical camp and visit to Kenya.
Child labor remains a major problem in many developing countries. Overpopulation is often cited as a cause of child labor, but it is not the main driver. Poverty is the primary cause, as families in poverty rely on children's work or wages to survive. Lack of access to education and employment opportunities for adults also contribute, as children fill economic roles when adults cannot. While reducing population growth could help address poverty long-term, governments must directly tackle poverty, illiteracy, and lack of school access to effectively eliminate the practice of child labor.
Child labor is a significant problem in India, with over 3.8 million children between 5-14 years old working. Poverty is a major contributing factor, as 30% of India's population lives below the poverty line and children from these families often must work to survive. Lack of awareness about the importance of education also leads to increased child labor rates, especially in rural areas. To reduce child labor, awareness must be raised among parents about education, and child labor laws need stricter enforcement.

Essay On Child Labor
The document discusses the issue of child labour around the world. Some key points:
- 218 million children work under harsh and dangerous conditions instead of attending school
- Child labour deprives children of their childhood, health, education and development
- Poverty is a major driving factor, as families rely on children's wages for survival
- Agriculture, services, and industry are major sectors where children work instead of school
- International agreements recognize children's right to be protected from exploitative work
- Improving access to education and reducing poverty are seen as crucial to ending child labour
Child labor is common in India due to poverty, lack of access to education, overpopulation, and urbanization. It has negative effects on children's development and future opportunities. While some work to support their families, child labor often perpetuates poverty and deprives children of their childhood and education. Various organizations work to eliminate this practice.

The document proposes a project called Liberty conservation and development association in Uganda to address high youth unemployment. The project will provide affordable agricultural mechanization and improved planting materials to help 500,000 unemployed youth start agricultural enterprises. It will establish demonstration sites for skills training in poultry, piggery, fish farming, mushroom growing, and zero grazing to teach practical agriculture skills. The goal is to massively increase youth employment in Uganda's agriculture sector and bring economic and social transformation.
Child exploitation involves the use of minors for economic gain, negatively impacting their development and rights enjoyment. An estimated 158 million children worldwide, especially in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, work in hazardous conditions that interfere with schooling. Poverty is a key driver of child labor, though girls face additional vulnerabilities like domestic servitude and abuse. International organizations like UNICEF work to enforce children's rights to survival, health, education and protection from exploitation through initiatives targeting issues like access to schools, healthcare, and clean water.

This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.

Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

7. JOB PLACEMENT PROGRAM
In Afghanistan, the last
year has seen the
unemployment rate
grow by 40 percent,
and hit a new rate of
over 50%. Based on
figures provided by the
Ministry of Labor and
Social Affairs, over 1.8
million eligible workers
are unemployed in
Afghanistan.
T-O-M has helped to
find full time jobs for
more than 80 people,
among them are
orphans, widows, and
disabled persons.
8. JOB PLACEMENT
NUMBERS FOR TODAY
Over the last 15 years many jobs
depended on the presence of foreigners,
thus giving the economy a false boost.
Once the foreign troops, contractors, and
expat workers left Afghanistan the
economy crashed, as it heavily relied on the
spending of expats.
12 million Afghans earn less than
$0.45USD per day.
Many educated youth with university
degrees are protesting and crying out to
the government as they cannot find jobs.
Former senior managers with reputable
organizations are now driving taxis trying
to earn money as they cannot find jobs.
"Those who had jobs are now unemployed
and at the same time no new jobs were
created," deputy CSO Chief Haseebullah
Muahid said.

EXPORTATION GOODSOur goal for this program is 3 fold and will create an
additional 500-700 jobs.
1. To have modern designed furniture hand made by local
Afghan carpenters for export.
2. Open a bakery for making local and international items
for sale in Afghanistan.
3. Production of products like candles and soap
for exportation and for sale in Afghanistan.
These jobs will not depend on the presence of
foreigners. This program will give a true boost to the
economy, not a false boost based on foreign troops,
contractors, and expat workers spending money for a short
period of time. Furniture and candles designed by T-O-

ORPHAN BOYS
T-O-I provides a safe environment
to boys who have graduated from
local orphanages. We believe that
having a safe place to live with
warm meals, life mentoring, and a
family environment will give the
boys the means to become
productive citizens – which in turn
helps the country to develop and
improve its economy. This
program takes in a boy with
nothing but the clothes on his
back and when he graduates from
the program he has basic life
skills, household items, and the
ability to be self sustainable and
live independently on his own.

12. DIY CREATIONS - EMPOWERING WOMEN
The goal of DIY Creations is to empower women by
providing them with skills and a job. Thus giving
them a chance to earn an income and be able to
financially contribute to the family. During the
Taliban era girls were not allowed to be educated.
As a result, today most women over the age of 30 in
Afghanistan have no education, no work experience,
and no skills to be able to provide an income for
their families.
13. SOME FACTS ABOUT AFGHAN
WIDOWS
There are an estimated 1 million Afghan widows.
Their average age is 35.
90% of them have an average of four or more
children.
Without the protection of a husband, widows
suffer from social exclusion in Afghanistan’s
patriarchal society. Many widows have no choice
but to become beggars.
Women and children have suffered the horrors
of kidnapping, child trafficking, organ harvesting,
sexual abuses, and child labor in addition to
appalling humiliation and degradation.
14. DISASTER RELIEF
PROGRAM
Heartbreaking events take place everyday in
Afghanistan. Many innocent people fall victims of
explosions, avalanches, mudslides, and earthquakes. It
can happen to anyone as in the end it comes down to
being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
In August 2015, a vehicle filled with explosive material
blew up in a residential area in Kabul in the middle of
the night. Over 50 people died and more than 400
people were injured.
Our Disaster Relief team, made up of Afghan volunteers,
is on stand by to help people who are the victims of
these natural disasters and and terrorist actions.
