CROSSROADS – 1 Million Signatures Or Let Us All Die As A Nation
These slides are from a talk Dr Simon Duffy of Citizen Network gave to Café Economique in Leeds, making the case for basic income. The argument set out is that UBI is one necessary part of a range of reforms necessary to support citizenship and strengthen community life. This talk preceded a (rather fiery) debate with Anna Coote of NEF who argued against UBI.
Talk by Dr Simon Duffy for Citizen Advice Derbyshire Districts, June 7th 2017. He explores the reality poverty is mitigated and created by the political system and particularly examines tax-benefit changes between 1997 and 2014.

2. Vision Statement To alleviate
poverty and prevent slavery around the world through
sustainable business training and opportunity.
The Problem Poverty, oppression, and lack of
education and economic opportunity render 1.5 billion men and
women within developing nations vulnerable to exploitation
and abuse through trafficking and unjust labor.
Our Solution In alignment with recommendations
made by IOM, World Bank, OSCE, ILO and the UN, Yobel
International seeks to foster social and economic stability for the
purpose of reducing deep poverty leading to unsafe migration,
exploitation and vulnerability to trafficking. Yobel accomplishes
this by providing highly effective, affordable, and accessible
entrepreneurial training courses to high-risk communities of
undereducated men and women within developing nations
thereby increasing job opportunities locally and improving
money management skills while lending dignity and status.
Large Scale Impact
Improving social and economic stability,increasing
childhood access to education is the most effective
means to decreasing the risk for trafficking. Business
training is a key component to economic stability and
increasing social empowerment
The best way to improve an economy is to encourage
business development.Every 1% increase in a nation’s
entrepreneurship results in a 2% decrease in the
poverty rate.
