American Born Chinese Assimilation
The stories American Born Chinese by Gene Lang, Linh Lai by Rebecca Rosenblum and Tapka by
David Bezmozgis all follow the lives of immigrants and first generation born Canadians/Americans.
These stories are diverse both in the ethnicity of the characters and in their experiences. However, they
are all summative of the detriment of the immigrant experience, which is a universal struggle. These
stories, through their diversity and similarity, give the cumulative theme that assimilation often does
more harm than good, and that it widely contributes to isolation, loneliness and loss of identity.
American Born Chinese is a graphic novel about the Asian immigrant experience. It weaves the stories
of four characters into the lives of two first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Linh is constantly torn between Vietnamese and Canadian culture to the point where she begins to
question her identity and lose her ties to both cultures. Throughout the story, Lihn s name is never
used. She is instead referred to as either Jinny or Xing. However, neither name belongs to a certain
culture. Linh notices that All the white Jinnys have a different sound in their names from the ihh in
hers (Rosenblum 1). Xing is a name given to her by her employer to make her sound more foreign but
It s not a Vietnamese name. It s not a Canadian name. It s a no name (3). Linh is forced into a new
culture and that ultimately strips her of any identity. Linh is torn between two cultures by Koenburg
(her employer) and her uncle. Koenburg wants to preserve her Vietnamese identity for the integrity of
his restaurant. Her uncle, on the other hand wishes for her to leave her old identity behind and
assimilate to Canadian culture. This causes conflict for Linh as she is constantly being pulled in two
directions. An example of this would be when Linh gets a new pair of shoes. Her uncle approves of
the new Canadian shoes (7). However, Koenburg disapproves stating that [they] are not Vietnamese
(7). Linh is so conflicted between the two cultures and her two identities that she ends up feeling void
of any identity. This is reflected in her life in one of the movies she watches. The film cuts off before
the credits, denying the actors and contributors of their identities much like she is being denied of hers
(6). The story ends with Linh falling off a skateboard and hitting her head. Koenburg and her friend
Jimmy are both shouting Jinny and Xing, but She has no idea who they re talking to (12). Linh Lai is
an example of how assimilation can lead to isolation and how it can contribute to a loss of

in this letter, are the code of ethics that will govern pharmacists to practice in the interests of their
patients.
Principle 1: Pharmacists respects the capabilities and understandings of colleagues and other
healthcare professionals, and wish to promote the good in every patient.

Finasteride first came out on the market in the treatment of BPH. Recently it has been used to treat
male pattern hair loss. Decades ago finasteride (used in the treatment of hair loss) would have no
value to a pharmacist as this indication was not yet known. If yesterday s pharmacists didn t continue
to keep up with ever changing treatment options for specific medications, a pharmacist wouldn t be
able offer drug expertise to patients. As the wealth of knowledge that exists and continues to grow is
exceptional, pharmacists will have to constantly stay up to date with the latest

What Is The Similarities Between Death Of A Salesman And...
In Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman and Tennessee Williams Glass Menagerie, readers see two
characters who share the struggle of being caught in the past. Biff and Tom both feel trapped in their
lives with not many options to escape to due to family responsibility. While Biff blames Willy and
Tom blames Amanda, they often search for escapes from their miserable lives and to pursuing the
American Dream in the form of adventure. Through Biff s and Tom s thoughts and actions, these
characters make up for much of the melancholy and reflective mood by having a hard time letting go
of the past in the two plays and affecting their parents internal conflicts and dreams. Flashbacks are
key to both plays and they are what influence the plays and show Biff s as well as Tom s character and
are what lead to the setting of the mood. In Death of a Salesman Biff creates the mood of guilt and
confusion since he is what causes Willy to go crazy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom describes his current situation as imprisonment, and his frequent smoking on the fire escape are
about as coincidental as Laura s similarity to her glass collection. He also uses the movies to
experience vicariously what he longs to have in his own life. Tom reveals at the end of the play that he
feels guilty for having left her behind. Tom recognizes that Laura is special and he very deeply cares
for her, shown by how struck with guilt and self hatred he is when he breaks her glass animals with his
coat. Tom s escape comes when he and Amanda fight about Jim and Amanda tells him to go to the
moon, and calls him a selfish dreamer . She thinks that Tom purposely invited Jim, knowing he was
engaged, just to shut her up, even though Tom had no idea. Tom finally goes off on his adventure,
after Amanda drives him away once and for all. Everywhere he goes, Laura haunts him and he feels as
though he has betrayed her by

Frankenstein Commentary
In order to make the found poem as close to the original as possible, I intended to add in very few
words that were not in chapter five, the chapter I chose to use as the source for my poem. I also
intended to include Gothic elements which were included in the first few lines when I wrote: It was a
dreary night, Dismal and wet, The rain poured from a black and comfortless sky. I had worked hard. A
dark stormy night is a Gothic element as it exhibits the metonymy of gloom and horror that was
present throughout the chapter. The inclusion of this Gothic element is insightful because it sets the
stage for a dark gloomy event soon to occur. The poem was intended to side with Victor Frankenstein
and paint a scary picture of the monster. While I was compiling the words for the poem from the
chapter, I noticed that Victor Frankenstein used so many words to negatively describe the creature.
The words used to for the monster were perfect so I decided to side against the monster. I had the
preconception that in order to advocate for Victor, I had to use the harshest words to attack the
monster. I wrote It became a thing such as even Dante could not have conceived, the demoniacal
corpse to which I had created. Using harsh words impressed upon the reader a negative view on the
monster. Towards the end of the poem I decided to integrate some drama, suspense, and fear. For
example, I wrote: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Layers Of Influence Analysis
Much of the human experience is shrouded in mystery, but that has not dissuaded numerous historians
and anthropologists from attempting to unravel the finer elements of culture. One such focus has been
the items human beings have been consuming since the beginning of organized society. This focus is
responsible for one of the most interesting and compelling exhibits ever put together by the Museum
of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia s Vancouver Campus. This exhibit,
appropriately entitled Layers of Influence, has been appearing for some time and is currently
positioned as a popular attraction. In this paper, I plan to explore the purpose of this exhibit and
discuss the role that clothing and other textiles have ultimately ... Show more content on

Although clothing, fibers, and textiles are not always universally recognized as art in the same vein as
painted or sculpted works, there is a great deal of historical value to them all the same, justifying the
existence of the exhibit in the first place. Further more, the background in art appreciation allows for
one to recognize the merit to the clothing beyond the strictly narrow interpretation of cloth as a tool
for survival or even just engagement within a given community. In the specific pattern of organization,
it is clear that the curator understood this with her exhaustive explanation, providing the justification
and relevance of the particular

Samsung Competitive Advantage
Further development of the enterprise depends on way it performs under outer factors of the market.
Regarding Porter s model of business competition forces, the company s position is analyzed
throughout five aspects (Mind Tools Editor Team, 2016). There is a significant threat of the new
competitions as this company is not the only retailer company in the world of electronics and gadgets.
Buyer s behavior defines the future effectiveness of the company as it mostly depends on the way
representatives of the target market are ready to buy top notch products by Apple and Samsung. On
this level of business performance, individual success of the company is closely connected with the
way these companies present themselves and their products on the market. At the same time, the
position of the enterprise s suppliers is vital as they define the competitiveness and variety of goods to
present to the customers. Finally, the competitiveness between the existing members of the market my
significantly influences the GWEL s performance throughout the first several years. Apparently, the
GWEL expects to invest a significant amount of income into further development of the company for
the following five years concerning strong positions of the competitors on the market. To get a
competitive advantage, the GWEL has a developed approach towards each of the five aspects. The
enterprise defines it activity through analysis of the competitors and their paradigms of market
behavior to outline

Crime In The Inner City
What ever happened to the mentality that it takes a village to raise a child? So often in today s society
we see violence on the news, and tend to shake our heads in disgust. Yet, as long as it does not affect
our lives we make no effort to seek out a way to change the world around us. Reverend Jeff Obafemi
Carr not only sees there is a growing problem of violent crimes in poverty stricken communities, but
he wants to make a difference. He established Build a Center, Heal a Community, to do so. Reverend
Carr envisioned a way to create a brighter future of the youth and improve the community that

potential. These at risk youth, that are exposed to violence early in life, are alienated from life
enhancing values, therefore limiting their potential of what they could become. Most people believe
that success begins at home, but what happens if a youth s home life is a one parent household or both
parents work all the time? These youth are not getting the guidance needed to become successful,
therefore leaving them to look for guidance elsewhere. Negative influence is the guidance these
youths tend to be drawn toward, because it gives them a sense of belonging to something. Build a

lives instead of the negative influences they are surrounded by. Doors can be opened for these youths
if given the proper guidance and tools. These youths can achieve a life in the world that once was

King Yu was. King Yu put all his strength and might into taming the Yellow River so when it floods it

China and King Yu. With a tremendous success of taming the Yellow River, China s agriculture
flourished with well watered farm and crops with great ease. King Yu became a celebrity instantly.
King Yu helped Ancient China thrive through advanced farming technology in the Yellow River Valley
because he controlled extreme flooding that damaged Ancient China s thriving society, he is believed
to be powerful from attaining powers from heaven. Firstly, King Yu helped Ancient China through
advanced agriculture technology because advanced agriculture technology means faster farming to

Speech On Academic Success
Good morning,
Today I would like to extol the crucial importance of academic success, and the fine qualities it
entails. Today on this stage, I would like to not only show my story of academic success, but also how
it has inherently moulded my personality and my perception of myself.
Academic success is something that has caused me great rumination something that has ultimately
became a laborious task. And while it has made me reclusive at times, the pursuit of it will integrally
help me in undertaking future career paths. Indeed, with its profound impact on my education, I now
find myself in a world free from restraint a world granting me the opportunity to take on any career
path imaginable.
To truly praise this notion, I now cast my mind back to Grade 4, when I was truly a scrawny, clueless
student who scurried around in the playground but never really perceived the world in a truly personal
way. Every day, I would always accompanied by my best friend, Sam Harding trudge up the school s
bumpy road, to reach the tuckshop where I stuff Zooper Dooper after Zooper Dooper down my
oesophagus. Whilst doing this, I would enter the classroom absent mindedly, narrowly avoiding
teacher eye contact. I therefore felt reticent, shy, and socially awkward, and yet I never realised one
gift I had: the ability to use my contemplative mind to inspire, empower and entertain people through
my work. I never once thought that beaming rays of joy would emanate from me; I just

Che Guevar A Visionary Leader In The Cuban Revolution
Che Guevara Words without deeds are worthless! When asked about Che Guevara the first thing that
is mentioned is the famous image of his face on t shirts worn by left leaning young adults, but did you
know he was a prominent figure in the Cuban Revolution? Guevara was both a visionary and ethical
leader because of his ability to lead the Cuban Revolution and because he cared about suffering. In
this paper we will review how Guevara was a visionary leader through his communication, continuous
engagement and willingness to put everything on the line. Second, we will examine how Guevara
applied ethical principles though reflective thinking and intellectual empathy in helping him make the
ethical decision to be a Revolutionary. Finally, I will reflect on how Guevara s visionary and ethical
leadership has influenced me to make changes to my leadership style. Guevara used his visionary and
ethical leadership traits to start a revolution across Latin America.
Visionary Leader Che Guevara displayed the characteristics of a true Visionary Leader throughout his
involvement with Fidel Castro s efforts to overthrow the Batista government in Cuba. As a military
advisor, he inspired and motivated guerilla troops in battles against Batista forces through both his
words and actions (History.com Staff, 2009). According to the Full Range Leadership chapter, this is
the definition of inspirational motivation. An example of this can found in the fierce and decisive
battle at Santa

The Socialization Of Political Socialization
Political Socialization Georgia is the nation s number one producer of the three Ps: peanuts, pecans,
and peaches. This home grown Georgia peach was produced in the suburbs just North of Atlanta and
South of the chicken coops in Alpharetta. Being a product of my environment, I could embody the
stereotypes bestowed upon me at birth. However, I have yet to master following procedure and
broadening your perspective to other cultures and ideas is more entertaining to me than sitting on a
lumpy, sun kissed couch on your cousin s porch off a gravel back road waiting for the cicadas to come
out. The guidance and discipline instilled into my youth through family and friends, region and media
exposure has greatly affected the way I choose to perceive the world. Other factors such as religion
has yet to hold a heavy presence in my life based on my family s viewpoint. Although being cultivated
along the Bible Belt, my family tree s branches filled with devout Irish Catholics surpassed my
immediate family. Both of my parents were raised Catholic yet deemed engaging in academics,
extracurricular activities, helping others, and leading healthy lives exceedingly necessary. My parents
wanted my two siblings and I to decide the lives we would ultimately lead without societal constraints.
The aspect of a community was not the selling factor for my parents because of their introverted
personalities. Neither ever felt the need to fit in, in order to be happy. Involvement in Megachurches in

Religious Tolerance In Medieval Spain
In a post September 11th broadcast, Osama bin Laden s deputy describes the intermingling of various
religions as the tragedy of al Andalus. This reference highlights the overly romanticized
characterization of religious tolerance in medieval Spain. Aptly known as La Convivencia, the
coexistence in English, this period is noted by as a time of flourishing social, cultural, and economic
advancement for the major religious groups residing in Spain. Although true in many ways, the notion
that it was a time of extreme tolerance is a severe exaggeration, as is seen by the mistreatment and
exile of Jews and Christians from Andalusia. Despite cases of non Muslims rising to positions of
authority, non Islamic groups in Andalusia faced great discrimination ... Show more content on

In ORNAMENT OF THE WORLD, María Rosa Menocal supports the idea of religious tolerance,
stating It was there the profoundly Arabized Jews rediscovered and reinvented Hebrew; there that
Christians embraced nearly every aspect of Arabic style. (chapter 1) This is problematic for a number
of reasons. First, that it is an overarching and simplified assessment of the situatuion. Menocal proves
this point by highlighting events such as the massacre of Jews in Grenada in 1066 by a mob of Muslim
individuals. This contradiction shows that given that such incidences were still taking place, Andalusia
was by no means a utopia of religious intolerance, and some attitude of discrimination or tension
existed amongst the cohabiting groups. Even if you do believe that these groups were coexisting at a
more tolerant level, there are several concessions that Menocal fails to make that are essential in terms
of scholarly analysis. The first being that even if certain actions such as taxation and differing clothing
for non Islamic peoples should be viewed only within the confines of limited social and symbolic
actions rather than as systematic discrimination, is this still perhaps an effort on the part of the Islamic
governing body to make assimilation more enticing? Just as in Hellenistic cities special privileges
were meant to encourage non Hellenistic groups to assimilate to their conquerers culture, is this not
the same in many ways? Regardless, how can such actions not directly be seen as discrimination or an
attempt to encourage assimilation by incentivizing conversion? It is clearly evident from first person
accounts and laws from the period that groups were in face

Bell Curve Analysis
Good Afternoon Professor Swaney
Thank you for sharing this information. I remember the bell curve as and the pressure as I felt as a
student of being on the right side of the curve. I also remember the negative feelings and feelings of
disappointment for being on the wrong side of the curve what I thought were letting my parents down
for not succeeding in an academic subject. When I was young (Elementary and some Jr. High) I really
struggled with reading and retention. I did very well in other subjects, but it always bothered me that I
struggled in reading. My mother and father were always very supportive but I am not sure they
understood why (I grew up in a different time of education) I struggled. My mother was from a
different country, France and though educated still had language barrier issues and my father was a

them in their decision process when it comes to their child s IEP goal and object development.

The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara
Teachers need to get through students on order to teach a student. Some students might not show up or
care about the class. Teachers of elementary schools have the hardest because the kids just want to
play, goof around and don t listen. Elementary teachers have hard time teaching young uneducated
students just like Miss Moore with her uneducated children from the neighborhood, in the story The
Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara. Miss Moore teaches the students how to take the first step toward a
better education just like elementary teachers, her teaching method were to show how the upper class
lived in comparison to the children but she could have though them differently by giving rewards for
something they did educationally. Furthermore, Miss Moore s teaching is related to elementary school
teachers do to the teachers of elementary schools have to lead the student on how to take the first step
towards a better education. Just like Miss Moore, elementary school teachers have a hard time
controlling the students because they are very inpatient and just want to do whatever is fun rather than
learning something that could benefit them later in future like learning how to read. Both the students
need a teacher that will lead them in the right direction Just like Miss Moore and the elementary
teachers by showing them the better. Miss Moore is a very educated for the block she has moved into

The Community Organizing Self Reflection Essay
Community Organizing Self Reflection
Experiences
My interest in community organizing and building began with the passion and knowledge for the well
being of others my father instilled in my life. My father was the late Chief Elmer Manatowa Jr of the
Sac and Fox Nation, Native Tribe of Oklahoma. I have been an active Governing Council member (all
adult members) of my Tribe for many years. I landed my first real job, Planning Department secretary,
after taking a business course at the local technical .school. In that position, I had the opportunity to
attend a Tribal Sovereignty Symposium organized by the Federal, State, and Tribal organizations. This
was my first taste of community organizing and community building. It was the fourth symposium of
its kind. The topics included Indian law, environmental issues, law enforcement, juvenile justice, arts,
taxation, spirituality, preservation, state compacts, and Tribal immunity. There were two Senate Bills,
299 and 667. Bill 299 allowed certain protections for protecting land royalties and mineral rights. The
protections included oil and mineral operator s exclusion from drilling on individually owned Indian
Country lands. Bill 667 referred to the health and human service regarding Indians.
When my father died, I stepped up my participation in order to fill in the gap left without his presence.
I have been advocating for social change the Tribal government level by actively listening to the
general consensus of

Main Features Of The September Guarantee Scheme
In the past young people who were 16 years and over were expected to either leave school and start
their employment or remain in school and continue their formal education. However it was noticed
that there was a high level of unemployment in the age bracket of 16 24 years. To change the situation
the government started a new arrangement called the September guarantee. This was aimed at young
people who were aged 14 18 years old.
The main features of the September guarantee scheme are as follows: • The participation age for
this scheme is presently up to the age of 18. • Young people can now continue with full time studies
in school or college or with an independent training provider. It also includes a sixth form college. •
They can also take a full time job or a volunteering role although these must be for 20 hours per week
or more in conjunction with part time training or education. • They can also get an apprenticeship or
a traineeship, which must include both a job/ work placement as well as a training element. • It also
apples to teenagers who leave school and complete a short course but change their mind. The
September Guarantee ensures that they are able to move to a different course they are interested in
pursuing.
To make sure all of these facilities are available to the young people the local authority makes a good
overview of the options available and identifies any gaps. They then make all this information
available to the young people from the age 13

The Shakespearian Play Much Ado About Nothing
The Shakespearian play Much Ado about Nothing explores the position of women in a patriarchal
society and the difficulties they face. This play demonstrates how women in Elizabethan society were
expected to behave in a passive manner, how the men s opinion was accepted over the females and
how women had to conform to men. The over arching idea of the ideal female was that she was
passive and was accepting of her role in society. This theme is explored throughout the entirety of the
play but is highly demonstrated in Act one scene one of the play. In this scene the Audience is
introduced to Beatrice she is the opposite of the typical female stereotype of the time as she is

The Effects Of Video Games Cause Aggression In Children
There have been many debates and studies conducted on aggression in children and if video games are
a major factor in cultivating that aggression. Determining the cause for aggression in children is a
huge concern within the psychological community and the idea that video games could be behind it is
one of the more popular ideas in recent years. However, this also means that the opposition for this
viewpoint is immense and solid proof will be required in order to appease them. In recent years, there
has been an increasing number of support and studies which show a direct correlation between
aggression in children and video games.
Support for the notion that video games causes aggression in children has increased exponentially in
recent years. According to a survey that appeared in Psychology of Popular Media Culture, Brad
Bushman, the creator of the survey, reported that 66% of researchers, 67% of parents, and 90% of
pediatricians agree that video games can increase the levels of aggression in children. He later goes to
state that eight out of ten researchers that had an opinion on the subject agree that aggression in
children is linked to violent video games (USA Today). This shows that there is an overwhelmingly
high number of people that support the idea that video games can cause aggression in children,
especially when the video games are violent in nature. Additionally, while not all parents are as
informed as people that specialize in this craft, the fact that the

Nano Tata
SYNOPSIS
The case illustrates the opportunities, challenges and trade offs involved in the design, prototyping and
marketing of the Nano the so called people s car by Tata Motors Ltd. (TML), a Tata Group company.
The case takes place nine months after the company s chairman, Ratan Tata, launched the Nano, on
January 10, 2008, at the 9th Auto Expo in Pragati Maidan, an exhibition center in New Delhi, India.
The case asks students to take the position of Ravi Kant, the company s managing director, in early
September 2008, as he faces multiple dilemmas that could lead to the temporary closure of the Nano

The presentation lacked three points that would have helped us make a better evaluation on Tata s
global strategy and helped their presentation be more credible. Firstly, the presentation did not address
the different car models that currently exist and ones that Tata plans to launch in the future. As Tata
goes into the United States and European market, the cars do not have to be at the $2,500 price point
since the lowest car prices in United States, for example, is about $9,000. Considering this, Tata can
add more necessary features and increase their price (and margins) by charging between $5000 and
$9,000. Second thing that the presentation could have addressed is the synergies Tata can obtain from
their Jaguar and Land Rover business, in terms of distribution channels, international markets, etc. At
the same time, the negative impacts a low end Tata Nano will have on Tata s high end Jaguar and Land
Rover needed to be mentioned. Thirdly, the presentation needed to compare Tata to one of its
competitors, Sitara. Sitara was launched in Pakistan at about the same price range and targeted the
same markets, competing against two wheelers. Pakistan s consumer behavior is similar to that of
India, so by studying why Sitara only sold about 500 models and failed can help us mitigate these risk
and failures when launching and expanding Tata.
The team recommended entering the EU and the US markets. Our team came to the conclusion that

Science Celebrates with Dolly, the Cloned Sheep Essay
In the world of science there is only one reason for a celebration, a scientific breakthrough. July 5,
1996 is a date in many scientists eyes where a party is indeed called for. A star was created, Dolly, a
sheep who was successfully cloned in the hands of science. In the website article, How Human
Cloning Will Work, the authors Cristen Conger and Kevin Bonsor use rhetoric appeals to illustrate the
possible downfalls and achievements of human cloning. A detailed assessment of how the authors use
logos, pathos and ethos to explain a how to on cloning to their audience will be analyzed.

With the development of cloning, the idea of cloning humans became an option and with that came the
possibility of bringing deceased relatives back to life. At the end of reading this sentence, the authors
want the readers to think of their family members who have already taken their last breath. They want
their audience to feel an emotion, any emotion, rather it be the joy of seeing their lost loved one or
anger at the thought of resurrecting their loved one from their slumber.
To continue the rhetoric of emotional appeal, the authors mention that the suffering of animals in the
making of this scientific breakthrough.
Those close that do survive suffer from genetic abnormalities. Clone cells may age more rapidly,
shortening their lifespan, similar to what happened with Dolly. Some clones have been born with
defective hearts, lung problems, diabetes, blood vessel complications and malfunctioning immune
systems. One of the more famous cases involved a cloned sheep that was born but suffered from
chronic hyperventilation cause by malformed arteries leading to the lungs.
Instead of the authors writing many clone cells die early from complications, they list the
complications in detail for a whole paragraph to show that animals are suffering. The ongoing list
grabs the audience one by one as each comma goes by.
The authors further their emotional appeal by mentioning films dealing with cloning. Films are made

Ethnography Essays
Ethnography
Introduction
Beginning with the early stages of savagery to the complex civilizations in the 21st century, the need
to compete remains an important aspect in the continual evolution of mankind. Competition took
various forms throughout history from the bloody attempts to kill a mammoth in order to provide
nourishment, to the violent battles between two opposing sides taking place on college football fields
every Saturday afternoon. Another form of competition involving severe contact on a scale par with
football is the sport of rugby. My personal history with the sport began in a medium sized island in
Polynesia. I lived and worked in New Zealand during the summer of 1999, between my sophomore
and junior year. This little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From my research I discovered three conflicting themes, and my theory behind these themes is based
upon structural analysis. This ethnography will also reveal some of the methodological questions
discussed in class, specifically, replicability, critical dialogue, reflexivity, and globalization.
Interestingly, I found a way to connect three out of the four methodological issues to the conflicting
themes gathered in my research. For example, critical dialogue links to the contradiction between
playfulness and competiveness, reflexivity to upper and lower classes, and globalization to
Englishness and Americaness. My point of departure, however, will begin with a basic introduction to
the history and rules of rugby. This will enable my non rugby playing readers (i.e. Joel, William,
Bashira, etc.) to gain general background knowledge on the sport before they become acquainted with
the Occidental rugby culture.
Rugby s Tale
Legend has it that a young English boy picked up a soccer ball during a match at Rugby School.
Picking up the ball is a clear violation in soccer unless the player is the goalie; but the illegality proved
popular and led to the sport of rugby. In 1846, the school later published the rules of rugby. England,
Scotland, and Whales picked the game up quickly and developed leagues for the new sport. The
spread of rugby to outside the island

Outline The Doctrine Of R2P
OUTLINE THE DOCTRINE OF R2P
Over centuries the international community has witnessed the deadly harm of sovereign states that
have demonstrated acts of colossal inhumanity, such as the atrocities of the Holocaust, Khmer Rouge
and Rwanda. All these episodes have contributed of an introduction to a new paradigm of international
of law, The Responsibly to Protect (R2P). This was adopted unanimously in 2005 by United Nations
General assembly World Summit. The R2P doctrine is based on 3 pillars of responsibility: 1. Each
nation state is obligated to protect its populace from crimes such as genocide, war crimes, ethnic
cleansing and crimes against humanity . 2.The international community has to encourage states to
uphold their role in ensuring R2P is adequately met. 3. If the nation state fails to protect its populace
from these crimes, it therefore it becomes an implication for the international community to
collectively take action. Notably this must be in accordance to article 39 of the United Nations
Charter. Hence, academic scholar Bellamy reinforces this; R2P offers the best change in our own time
to build an international community that is less tolerant of mass atrocities and more predisposed to
preventing them . However it must be noted that the doctrine of R2P is not legally binding.

Attachment In Harry Harlow s Experiments
Do humans think of their parents as warm and comfortable when they look at them? Harry Harlow s
experiment with infant monkeys put this idea to the test to see if humans do rely on the importance of
warm contact (king,2017), or if it is simply the emotion of loving someone. Many of the existing
theories of love centered on the idea that the earliest attachment between a mother and child was
merely a means for the child to obtain food, relieve thirst, and avoid pain (Cherry,2017). This
experiment all comes back to attachment, which is when someone or something will start developing a
bonding connection with their caregiver. Harlow s experiments correlate with my past experiences
whereby I formed a beneficial attachment by warmth, which is the feeling of being safe and loved.
Harlow s experiment started when the monkeys were separated at birth from their mother (Green,
N.D.). Therefore, the monkeys had no idea who their actual mother was when the experiment was
starting. The monkeys were put in separate cages and half of them were put with a cold wire mother
and the other was a warm, fuzzy cloth mother (King,2017). The infant monkeys were being fed by

Examples Of Feud In Huckleberry Finn
Feud I have to admit I am a peaceful person. I do not like quarrels or bad feelings. Life is just too
short to waste myself on issues like feud. Feud is all around the world. Feud is an argument that has
been going around for so long between two people or groups (Dictionary,Kate Woodford page 1).
Feud can happen in many ways, it can start by just a simple thing, and it can turn to a bad, dangerous
event. A example of feud is on the book Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, it really helps us
understand what feud is. A lot of feuds used to happen in US too. Countries deal with fued as well, no
matter how hard they try to ignore it, it will still happen. In the book Huckleberry Finn by Mark

and how dangerous it is. It all starts by Huck going into this new family called Grangerfords Huck

feud goes into the next level. When Huck goes to the woods he finds Buck and a nineteen year old

of feud in the book. Feud happens everywhere, but people should try to stop them. Feud was a big

Shades of a White Man
What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving
how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god.
(Shakespeare) Humans were born pure, humble and humane. Politics, science, conflicts and the innate
desire for dominance change who we are, and who we ultimately aspire to be. The culture we are born
into, too, affects who we are in a rather dramatic way; it contributes significantly in writing the script
of a person s life. George Orwell was born into a culture of white men, a culture that believes in
dominance and superiority, a culture that steps on whoever stands in its way. Imperialism was that
culture; the culture that Orwell was influenced by, and suffered from. From my perspective, I believe
that even though George Orwell claimed that he was against the imperialist, British culture; I was all
for the Burmese and against their oppressors, the British (Orwell, Shooting an Elephant, par. 2), he
was an imperialist in disguise, and had always been one. He was a unique imperialist, one who had
morals and ethical obligations, which seemingly resulted in his lifelong misery, since it would not
naturally align with the culture he belongs to. Orwell was not a perfect white man, yet he was one.
Imperialism is a state of mind, a certain way of looking at people and life. The imperialist culture is a
selfish one; it imprints a seal on all of its descendants, thus creating masters out of

Visible Minority And Immigrant Racism
Visible Minority and Immigrant Racism in the Canadian Work Environment
In the ideal world, every person is treated equally in the workplace whether it be hiring, promotion,
assignments or termination. However in reality, racial discrimination and harassment remain pervasive
in the workplace, with 1 in 4 visible minority workers who reported that they had experienced racial
harassment or discrimination in the workplace [3]. In this essay, I will be discussing the social history
of racism in the workplace, the nature of racism in the labour force, motives and factors, immigration
policies, temporary programs and exploitation of employment, the de skilling of individuals and non
recognition of foreign credentials, the social history of racism in the workplace, racism in the
sociological conflict theory paradigm, and finally, policy recommendations to aimed to eliminate and
decrease racism in the work environment. In the Canadian work environment, racism exists as a
complex and multidimensional inequality for visible minorities and immigrants, and can be examined
socially, economically and politically using the sociological Marxist conflict theory paradigm.

The Themes Of St. Augustine s Confessions By Saint Augustine
Confessions
In the book Confessions by Saint Augustine, there are several themes throughout that describes
Augustine s thoughts and opinions of how to live responsibly. Augustine believes that God is the
reason for everything good that happens to one s life, which you are to praise him for. Augustine goes
through some tough situations, which he uses his life as a standard way of living or an example of
what others go through in their lifetime. He plainly states on several occasions that in everything you
do needs to be for the glory of God. This essay will outline the main themes referred in the passage of
Book X, which are find God later in one s life, seeking pleasure in worldly things, and understanding
where the beauty of the world comes from. Also, the essay will analyze his worldview that you
shouldn t find pleasure in worldly possessions and to praise God, and how it helps others live or have
a responsible life.
There are several themes within the passage that shows Augustine s worldview. For example, in the
first line of the passage, he understands the concept of loving God later in life: I have learnt to love
you late (Conf. X.27). This quote suggests that Augustine is now able to see why is mother was so
skeptical in giving him is baptism early in his childhood. He commits to sin on numerous occasions,
but comes back to find God again. In Book II, Augustine s actions are paralleled with the prodigal son:
I strayed still farther from you and you did not restrain me.
I was tossed and spilled, floundering in the broiling sea of my fornication, and you said no word
(Conf. II.1). Augustine acted just as the prodigal son did by straying from God and being taken over
by worldly pleasures. As in the story, Augustine does come back to God and devotes himself to Him
more than ever. It can be reasonably inferred that God rejoices more in the people who were lost and
then found their salvation than to always be faithful towards Him. This suggests that God wants
people to try and do it on their own, making mistakes after mistakes, and then hitting rock bottom to
perhaps humble one in order to get their full attention to be placed on Him; this is what a responsible
self looks like. In this section, the theme

  • 2. American Born Chinese Assimilation The stories American Born Chinese by Gene Lang, Linh Lai by Rebecca Rosenblum and Tapka by David Bezmozgis all follow the lives of immigrants and first generation born Canadians/Americans. These stories are diverse both in the ethnicity of the characters and in their experiences. However, they are all summative of the detriment of the immigrant experience, which is a universal struggle. These stories, through their diversity and similarity, give the cumulative theme that assimilation often does more harm than good, and that it widely contributes to isolation, loneliness and loss of identity. American Born Chinese is a graphic novel about the Asian immigrant experience. It weaves the stories of four characters into the lives of two first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Linh is constantly torn between Vietnamese and Canadian culture to the point where she begins to question her identity and lose her ties to both cultures. Throughout the story, Lihn s name is never used. She is instead referred to as either Jinny or Xing. However, neither name belongs to a certain culture. Linh notices that All the white Jinnys have a different sound in their names from the ihh in hers (Rosenblum 1). Xing is a name given to her by her employer to make her sound more foreign but It s not a Vietnamese name. It s not a Canadian name. It s a no name (3). Linh is forced into a new culture and that ultimately strips her of any identity. Linh is torn between two cultures by Koenburg (her employer) and her uncle. Koenburg wants to preserve her Vietnamese identity for the integrity of his restaurant. Her uncle, on the other hand wishes for her to leave her old identity behind and assimilate to Canadian culture. This causes conflict for Linh as she is constantly being pulled in two directions. An example of this would be when Linh gets a new pair of shoes. Her uncle approves of the new Canadian shoes (7). However, Koenburg disapproves stating that [they] are not Vietnamese (7). Linh is so conflicted between the two cultures and her two identities that she ends up feeling void of any identity. This is reflected in her life in one of the movies she watches. The film cuts off before the credits, denying the actors and contributors of their identities much like she is being denied of hers (6). The story ends with Linh falling off a skateboard and hitting her head. Koenburg and her friend Jimmy are both shouting Jinny and Xing, but She has no idea who they re talking to (12). • 5. What Is The Similarities Between Death Of A Salesman And... In Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman and Tennessee Williams Glass Menagerie, readers see two characters who share the struggle of being caught in the past. Biff and Tom both feel trapped in their lives with not many options to escape to due to family responsibility. While Biff blames Willy and Tom blames Amanda, they often search for escapes from their miserable lives and to pursuing the American Dream in the form of adventure. Through Biff s and Tom s thoughts and actions, these characters make up for much of the melancholy and reflective mood by having a hard time letting go of the past in the two plays and affecting their parents internal conflicts and dreams. Flashbacks are key to both plays and they are what influence the plays and show Biff s as well as Tom s character and are what lead to the setting of the mood. He also uses the movies to experience vicariously what he longs to have in his own life. Tom reveals at the end of the play that he feels guilty for having left her behind. Tom recognizes that Laura is special and he very deeply cares for her, shown by how struck with guilt and self hatred he is when he breaks her glass animals with his coat. Tom s escape comes when he and Amanda fight about Jim and Amanda tells him to go to the moon, and calls him a selfish dreamer . She thinks that Tom purposely invited Jim, knowing he was engaged, just to shut her up, even though Tom had no idea. Tom finally goes off on his adventure, after Amanda drives him away once and for all. Everywhere he goes, Laura haunts him and he feels as though he has betrayed her by ... • 6. Frankenstein Commentary In order to make the found poem as close to the original as possible, I intended to add in very few words that were not in chapter five, the chapter I chose to use as the source for my poem. I also intended to include Gothic elements which were included in the first few lines when I wrote: It was a dreary night, Dismal and wet, The rain poured from a black and comfortless sky. I had worked hard. A dark stormy night is a Gothic element as it exhibits the metonymy of gloom and horror that was present throughout the chapter. The inclusion of this Gothic element is insightful because it sets the stage for a dark gloomy event soon to occur. The poem was intended to side with Victor Frankenstein and paint a scary picture of the monster. While I was compiling the words for the poem from the chapter, I noticed that Victor Frankenstein used so many words to negatively describe the creature. The words used to for the monster were perfect so I decided to side against the monster. I had the preconception that in order to advocate for Victor, I had to use the harshest words to attack the monster. I wrote It became a thing such as even Dante could not have conceived, the demoniacal corpse to which I had created. Using harsh words impressed upon the reader a negative view on the monster. Towards the end of the poem I decided to integrate some drama, suspense, and fear. For example, I wrote: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Layers Of Influence Analysis Much of the human experience is shrouded in mystery, but that has not dissuaded numerous historians and anthropologists from attempting to unravel the finer elements of culture. One such focus has been the items human beings have been consuming since the beginning of organized society. This focus is responsible for one of the most interesting and compelling exhibits ever put together by the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia s Vancouver Campus. This exhibit, appropriately entitled Layers of Influence, has been appearing for some time and is currently positioned as a popular attraction. Although clothing, fibers, and textiles are not always universally recognized as art in the same vein as painted or sculpted works, there is a great deal of historical value to them all the same, justifying the existence of the exhibit in the first place. Regarding Porter s model of business competition forces, the company s position is analyzed throughout five aspects (Mind Tools Editor Team, 2016). There is a significant threat of the new competitions as this company is not the only retailer company in the world of electronics and gadgets. Buyer s behavior defines the future effectiveness of the company as it mostly depends on the way representatives of the target market are ready to buy top notch products by Apple and Samsung. On this level of business performance, individual success of the company is closely connected with the way these companies present themselves and their products on the market. At the same time, the position of the enterprise s suppliers is vital as they define the competitiveness and variety of goods to present to the customers. Finally, the competitiveness between the existing members of the market my significantly influences the GWEL s performance throughout the first several years. • 14. Speech On Academic Success Good morning, Today I would like to extol the crucial importance of academic success, and the fine qualities it entails. Today on this stage, I would like to not only show my story of academic success, but also how it has inherently moulded my personality and my perception of myself. Academic success is something that has caused me great rumination something that has ultimately became a laborious task. And while it has made me reclusive at times, the pursuit of it will integrally help me in undertaking future career paths. Indeed, with its profound impact on my education, I now find myself in a world free from restraint a world granting me the opportunity to take on any career path imaginable. To truly praise this notion, I now cast my mind back to Grade 4, when I was truly a scrawny, clueless student who scurried around in the playground but never really perceived the world in a truly personal way. Every day, I would always accompanied by my best friend, Sam Harding trudge up the school s bumpy road, to reach the tuckshop where I stuff Zooper Dooper after Zooper Dooper down my oesophagus. Whilst doing this, I would enter the classroom absent mindedly, narrowly avoiding teacher eye contact. I therefore felt reticent, shy, and socially awkward, and yet I never realised one gift I had: the ability to use my contemplative mind to inspire, empower and entertain people through my work. I never once thought that beaming rays of joy would emanate from me; I just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Che Guevar A Visionary Leader In The Cuban Revolution Che Guevara Words without deeds are worthless! When asked about Che Guevara the first thing that is mentioned is the famous image of his face on t shirts worn by left leaning young adults, but did you know he was a prominent figure in the Cuban Revolution? Guevara was both a visionary and ethical leader because of his ability to lead the Cuban Revolution and because he cared about suffering. In this paper we will review how Guevara was a visionary leader through his communication, continuous engagement and willingness to put everything on the line. Second, we will examine how Guevara applied ethical principles though reflective thinking and intellectual empathy in helping him make the ethical decision to be a Revolutionary. Finally, I will reflect on how Guevara s visionary and ethical leadership has influenced me to make changes to my leadership style. Guevara used his visionary and ethical leadership traits to start a revolution across Latin America. Visionary Leader Che Guevara displayed the characteristics of a true Visionary Leader throughout his involvement with Fidel Castro s efforts to overthrow the Batista government in Cuba. As a military advisor, he inspired and motivated guerilla troops in battles against Batista forces through both his words and actions (History.com Staff, 2009). According to the Full Range Leadership chapter, this is the definition of inspirational motivation. An example of this can found in the fierce and decisive battle at Santa ... • 17. Religious Tolerance In Medieval Spain In a post September 11th broadcast, Osama bin Laden s deputy describes the intermingling of various religions as the tragedy of al Andalus. This reference highlights the overly romanticized characterization of religious tolerance in medieval Spain. Aptly known as La Convivencia, the coexistence in English, this period is noted by as a time of flourishing social, cultural, and economic advancement for the major religious groups residing in Spain. Although true in many ways, the notion that it was a time of extreme tolerance is a severe exaggeration, as is seen by the mistreatment and exile of Jews and Christians from Andalusia. In ORNAMENT OF THE WORLD, María Rosa Menocal supports the idea of religious tolerance, stating It was there the profoundly Arabized Jews rediscovered and reinvented Hebrew; there that Christians embraced nearly every aspect of Arabic style. (chapter 1) This is problematic for a number of reasons. First, that it is an overarching and simplified assessment of the situatuion. Menocal proves this point by highlighting events such as the massacre of Jews in Grenada in 1066 by a mob of Muslim individuals. This contradiction shows that given that such incidences were still taking place, Andalusia was by no means a utopia of religious intolerance, and some attitude of discrimination or tension existed amongst the cohabiting groups. Even if you do believe that these groups were coexisting at a more tolerant level, there are several concessions that Menocal fails to make that are essential in terms of scholarly analysis. The first being that even if certain actions such as taxation and differing clothing for non Islamic peoples should be viewed only within the confines of limited social and symbolic actions rather than as systematic discrimination, is this still perhaps an effort on the part of the Islamic governing body to make assimilation more enticing? Just as in Hellenistic cities special privileges were meant to encourage non Hellenistic groups to assimilate to their conquerers culture, is this not the same in many ways? Regardless, how can such actions not directly be seen as discrimination or an attempt to encourage assimilation by incentivizing conversion? It is clearly evident from first person accounts and laws from the period that groups were in face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Firstly, the presentation did not address the different car models that currently exist and ones that Tata plans to launch in the future. As Tata goes into the United States and European market, the cars do not have to be at the $2,500 price point since the lowest car prices in United States, for example, is about $9,000. Considering this, Tata can add more necessary features and increase their price (and margins) by charging between $5000 and $9,000. Second thing that the presentation could have addressed is the synergies Tata can obtain from their Jaguar and Land Rover business, in terms of distribution channels, international markets, etc. At the same time, the negative impacts a low end Tata Nano will have on Tata s high end Jaguar and Land Rover needed to be mentioned. Thirdly, the presentation needed to compare Tata to one of its competitors, Sitara. Sitara was launched in Pakistan at about the same price range and targeted the same markets, competing against two wheelers. • 30. Outline The Doctrine Of R2P OUTLINE THE DOCTRINE OF R2P Over centuries the international community has witnessed the deadly harm of sovereign states that have demonstrated acts of colossal inhumanity, such as the atrocities of the Holocaust, Khmer Rouge and Rwanda. All these episodes have contributed of an introduction to a new paradigm of international of law, The Responsibly to Protect (R2P). This was adopted unanimously in 2005 by United Nations General assembly World Summit. The R2P doctrine is based on 3 pillars of responsibility: 1. Each nation state is obligated to protect its populace from crimes such as genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity . 2.The international community has to encourage states to uphold their role in ensuring R2P is adequately met. 3. If the nation state fails to protect its populace from these crimes, it therefore it becomes an implication for the international community to collectively take action. Notably this must be in accordance to article 39 of the United Nations Charter. Hence, academic scholar Bellamy reinforces this; R2P offers the best change in our own time to build an international community that is less tolerant of mass atrocities and more predisposed to preventing them . However it must be noted that the doctrine of R2P is not legally binding. Harry Harlow s experiment with infant monkeys put this idea to the test to see if humans do rely on the importance of warm contact (king,2017), or if it is simply the emotion of loving someone. Many of the existing theories of love centered on the idea that the earliest attachment between a mother and child was merely a means for the child to obtain food, relieve thirst, and avoid pain (Cherry,2017). This experiment all comes back to attachment, which is when someone or something will start developing a bonding connection with their caregiver. Harlow s experiments correlate with my past experiences whereby I formed a beneficial attachment by warmth, which is the feeling of being safe and loved. Harlow s experiment started when the monkeys were separated at birth from their mother (Green, N.D.). Therefore, the monkeys had no idea who their actual mother was when the experiment was starting. • 38. Shades of a White Man What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god. (Shakespeare) Humans were born pure, humble and humane. Politics, science, conflicts and the innate desire for dominance change who we are, and who we ultimately aspire to be. The culture we are born into, too, affects who we are in a rather dramatic way; it contributes significantly in writing the script of a person s life. George Orwell was born into a culture of white men, a culture that believes in dominance and superiority, a culture that steps on whoever stands in its way. Imperialism was that culture; the culture that Orwell was influenced by, and suffered from. From my perspective, I believe that even though George Orwell claimed that he was against the imperialist, British culture; I was all for the Burmese and against their oppressors, the British (Orwell, Shooting an Elephant, par. 2), he was an imperialist in disguise, and had always been one. He was a unique imperialist, one who had morals and ethical obligations, which seemingly resulted in his lifelong misery, since it would not naturally align with the culture he belongs to. Orwell was not a perfect white man, yet he was one. Imperialism is a state of mind, a certain way of looking at people and life. The imperialist culture is a selfish one; it imprints a seal on all of its descendants, thus creating masters out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Canadian work environment, racism exists as a complex and multidimensional inequality for visible minorities and immigrants, and can be examined socially, economically and politically using the sociological Marxist conflict theory paradigm. • 40. The Themes Of St. Augustine s Confessions By Saint Augustine Confessions In the book Confessions by Saint Augustine, there are several themes throughout that describes Augustine s thoughts and opinions of how to live responsibly. Augustine believes that God is the reason for everything good that happens to one s life, which you are to praise him for. Augustine goes through some tough situations, which he uses his life as a standard way of living or an example of what others go through in their lifetime. He plainly states on several occasions that in everything you do needs to be for the glory of God. This essay will outline the main themes referred in the passage of Book X, which are find God later in one s life, seeking pleasure in worldly things, and understanding where the beauty of the world comes from. Also, the essay will analyze his worldview that you shouldn t find pleasure in worldly possessions and to praise God, and how it helps others live or have a responsible life. There are several themes within the passage that shows Augustine s worldview. For example, in the first line of the passage, he understands the concept of loving God later in life: I have learnt to love you late (Conf. X.27). This quote suggests that Augustine is now able to see why is mother was so skeptical in giving him is baptism early in his childhood. He commits to sin on numerous occasions, but comes back to find God again. In Book II, Augustine s actions are paralleled with the prodigal son: I strayed still farther from you and you did not restrain me. I was tossed and spilled, floundering in the broiling sea of my fornication, and you said no word (Conf. II.1). Augustine acted just as the prodigal son did by straying from God and being taken over by worldly pleasures. As in the story, Augustine does come back to God and devotes himself to Him more than ever. It can be reasonably inferred that God rejoices more in the people who were lost and then found their salvation than to always be faithful towards Him. This suggests that God wants people to try and do it on their own, making mistakes after mistakes, and then hitting rock bottom to perhaps humble one in order to get their full attention to be placed on Him; this is what a responsible self looks like. In this section, the theme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
