Thinking Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Thinking" is no easy feat. The challenge lies in the abstract and
multifaceted nature of the subject itself. The very act of contemplating thinking can be a
paradox, as it requires a meta-cognitive approach that delves into the intricacies of human
cognition.
One faces the daunting task of navigating through various philosophical, psychological, and even
neuroscientific perspectives on thinking. Each viewpoint introduces its own complexities and
nuances, making it a formidable task to synthesize a coherent narrative. Balancing between
theoretical abstraction and practical examples is essential to ensure the essay is not too esoteric
or detached from real-life scenarios.
Furthermore, one must grapple with the challenge of defining thinking itself. Is it a purely
cognitive process, or does it involve emotions and intuition? Does it differ among individuals,
cultures, or time periods? These questions add layers of complexity that demand careful
consideration and analysis.
Moreover, crafting an engaging and thought-provoking essay on thinking requires a deep
exploration of various thinking modes – critical thinking, creative thinking, analytical
thinking, and more. Each of these dimensions adds a layer of intricacy, and drawing connections
between them necessitates a careful threading of ideas.
In terms of structure, the essay must strike a balance between depth and accessibility. It should
cater to a diverse audience, from those with a background in philosophy to those approaching the
topic with a more practical mindset. This balancing act is challenging but crucial for ensuring the
essay's impact and relevance.
Ultimately, writing an essay on thinking demands not just intellectual rigor but also a certain
level of introspection. It calls for the writer to engage in the very act they are exploring –
thinking about thinking. This recursive process can be mentally taxing but is essential for the
authenticity and depth of the essay.
In conclusion, tackling the "Thinking" essay is an intricate dance between conceptual
exploration, practical illustration, and introspective analysis. The writer must navigate through
the labyrinth of ideas with finesse, providing readers with a nuanced understanding of the
subject. It is a task that requires not just knowledge but a keen intellectual curiosity. For those
who find themselves daunted by the complexity of such an essay, it's worth considering seeking
assistance. Similar essays and more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net, where experienced
writers can provide the support needed to navigate the intricate landscape of thinking.

First Person Narration in Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper and
Edgar Allen Poe s the Black Cat
In The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman and The Black
Cat By Edgar Allen Poe, two short and sinister stories, 1st person narration is used by
both authors to create atmospheric tension and unease. By using 1st person narration,
a story told through the eyes of one person present in that story, the authors can get
far more intimate and detailed in the individual characters feelings and emotions. This
makes it an invaluable style of writing if the readers are intended to empathise with
the character. It is controlled voyeurism, peering into another s consciences and
seeing the world through their eyes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The style of diary type writing is kept the same throughout, and although the quality
never varies, the unease comes from the increasingly peculiar fascinations that are the
topic of the journal (the wallpaper, for example);
From;
The color is repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow… An
innocent, if somewhat disapproving comment on the colour of the wallpaper, to such
ravings as:
The front pattern DOES move and no wonder! The woman behind it shakes it!
The reasoning becomes increasingly irrational and far fetched, compared to the cold
logic from the narrator of The Black Cat .
The atmosphere and sense of unease is greatly affected by the ability to see into
someone else s mind. Using a 1st person narrative in this context only adds to the
overall ominous and immoral feeling of witnessing such events, to be witnessing
them at the hands of the criminals and victims. Poe uses it to create a more fearful
yet explainable chain of events;
I detail with awe, nothing more than an ordinary succession of very natural causes
and effects.
While Gilman eases the reader into a comfortable state of psychosis slowly, without
even realising at first;
But in the places where it isn t faded and where the sun is just so I can see a strange,
provoking, formless sort of figure, that seems to skulk about behind that
It Was The Last Day Off School Before Spring Break
It was the last day off school before spring break. I loved to go to school I get to see
my friends there, even though I don t like learning math so much I loved it at
Byron Center I have been going here since 1st grade Actually. I walked inside the
doors of the middle school looked around and found my group of friends, I basically
flew to them because I was so excited to see them.
It was the last hour of school and I was staring at the clock every 5 seconds it felt
like. I was in history last hour and they were talking about africa. Of course this
class had to be last hour I did not like history. There was only 2 minutes until the
bell rang I started to pack her stuff up and was starting to inch over to the door.

I went over to her said,
hi nicely and we started to have a conversation. We started to talk about school and
then we suddenly changed the subject to music. Me and her actually do orchestra
together I do the viola and she does the cello. As I could see this girl was pretty nice
and fun to talk to. We had so much in common though like we both dance, both like
the same bands, and we both even liked the same restaurants
The bus that was bringing us to kentucky was at the church. Then I realized who
was I going to sit by!? I saw that Emma had a seat open by her so I went over to her
Could i sit by you? I said kindly,
Sure Emma said, smiling and pulled her stuff out of the way so I could sit down.
The ride to kentucky was an 6 hour drive. We talked the whole time.
It was time to go to bed after dinner. So I started to get my pjs on and I went to go
brush my teeth. It was a cold night so I brought a coat and wore some slippers to go
to the bathroom. As I was walking back to the cabin Emma popped out of the woods
yelling,
Mikayla! I did flinch a little bit
that didn t scare me, I started to say, we both started to laugh together. Now the
both of us started to walk back into the cabin. We got into our room and started to
get all comfy in our beds and we feel asleep fast.
BEEP! BEEP! The alarm sang. I opened my eyes, yawned really loud and I forced
myself to get out of my warm and fuzzy blankets. Emma was still
Buck Call Quotes
The relations between Buck and the human he encounters are marked not
surprisingly, by opposing forces, actions, roles or values: love and hate, master and
slave, uneasy truce and open war, hunter and victim. Buck enters the story in his
sustaining California environment as ruler of all he surveys: he was king, king over
all creeping, crawling flying things of Judge Miller s place, humansincluded. Taken
out of that happy valley, he was starved and mistreated by his captors and then
subdued by the brutal club of a shrewd, red sweated man. The man conquers Buck
and Buck hates him; yet the beating brings with it the curiously ambiguous relation
between master and slave: When the man brought him water he drank eagerly, and
later bolted a generous meal of raw meat, chunk by chunk from the man s hand. Buck
s understanding of humanbeings will henceforth be defined by power and the politic
dispensing of the necessities of life. The next three chapters bring Buck under the
benevolent tutelage of Perrault and Francois, master still, but fair and above all,
schooled in the ways of the North. Buck s own competence increases apace. Though

In chapter two, London introduces this divide as a major feature of the Klondike
landscape: It was a hard day s run, the Canon, through Sheep camp, past the Scale and
the timber line, across glaciers and snowdrifts hundreds of feet deep, and over the
great Chicot Divide which stands between the salt and the fresh North. Divides like
this recur throughout the book, and each time Buck crosses one, he enters a world
whose constituent parts are silence, wilderness, an increasingly nonhuman void
whatever was opposite to the world he has left. In the last chapter, Buck, Thornton
and two other men enter more deeply the uncharted
Example Of Classroom Observation
The past semester of classroom observations has been very meaningful to me. In
the past, I had to dedicate all 20 hours to a single subject, typically reading, writing,
or math. So, to be able to put in time during different hours of the day was very
enlightening as it allowed me to further expand my knowledge of the teaching
profession. When I show up everyday at the same time I tend to see the same
practices and assessments being used. I divided my time between a third grade
classroom and a fifth grade classroom. My time spent observing assessments and
practices along with discussions about each with my mentors has been a valuable
learning experience for me.
Common Core State Standards are followed in the district I observed in. As part of
the curriculum, every Thursday morning is spent testing on that week s material. In
the third grade classroom their reading tests consists of two two page stories with 11
questions each; there are 10 multiple choice questions and two short essay questions.
Every four weeks they have a big unit test. Again, there are two stories, but this test
contains only essay questions. The thing that was most surprising to me was how
well behaved this class was. Reading starts at 8:00am and lasts 80 minutes; the
students are very respectful of their testing time and work silently at their desks. I
was very impressed that third graders could be quiet for that amount of time. If
they finish early, then they are able to read one of their library books. On a couple
of occasions, I was able to work at the back of the room with the below reading
level students; there are five of them and they set as a group at a horseshoe table.
Instructions for them are modified to allow the questions to be read aloud to them
by the teacher or a para. They were still responsible for reading the story silently to
themselves. I enjoyed doing this and I believe it was very beneficial for the students
as it helped them to stay focused.
In the fifth grade classroom I was able to witness assessments in math and reading.
At Parkview School every grade does Mad Minute practice every day, and then they
test for a grade on Thursday. Made Minute is 40 math problems and the students are
given

Firstly, around ten cockroaches run outside from the hot pot. This cause is reflected
this Cafe de Coral restaurant in North Point is very dirty. Secondly, the manager did
not apologize to Miss Tse. The manager did not respect the customer obviously and
Miss Tse so angry about that.
In this case, there are some elements of procedural sides of customer service were
not fulfilled by the concerned service provider.
The element of timeliness was not fulfilled. Miss Tse waited twenty minutes for the
meal, also not many costumers in this restaurant. The service of this restaurant cannot
satisfy the customer expectation. In quick service restaurant, efficient service is
essential. Unfortunately, this fast food restaurant cannot provide a quick service to
Miss Tse. There is no reason that this restaurant provide the food slowly. Because the
staffs were not busy in that time so they should provide the food in standard time.
The element of anticipation was not fulfilled. Miss Tse felt disgusted after many
cockroaches run outside from the hot pot. The manager should apologize to Miss
Tse but he or she did not say that. The manager did not be one step ahead of Miss
Tse s needs because Miss Tse expects that the manager apologize to her and helped
her to move out the hot pot but the manager did not meet her expectation.
The element of communication was not fulfilled. The manager did not ask Miss Tse
some question and try to improve the service. For example, the
Chivalry In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
In the Arthurian legend, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the story is used to shape
the author s idea of what the perfect knight is. The chivalry that the author describes
is unrealistic, and portrays a falsified chivalric system in the time of Arthurian
legends. It is an overzealous sense of honor and concern about the court s reputation
that begins the plot, and it is a continued adherence to chivalric values that actually
ensures that the plot actually progresses. It is very easily seen by any reader that
these tenets of chivalry including, but not limited to, respect, reputation, and honor,
are held very dear to the Knights of the Round Table. Multiple times throughout the
story, the characters concern with these characteristics physically... Show more

A troubadour was a poet that represented a knightly class of people. Accordingly, it
is expected that a poem from a celebrated troubadour such as de Born will represent
the zeitgeist that is, the popular opinion of the times. One of de Born s poems,
titled Bem platz lo gais temps de pascor, is mainly about the glories of war. De Born
juxtaposes the joyful springtime, with clubs and blades and painted helms (Kline).
De Born speaks for the knightly masses here, demonstrating the group s love of war
(Editors). This illustrates a vastly different picture of knighthood than shown in Sir
Gawain and the Green Knight. The kind of knighthood shown in Sir Gawain is one of
majesty and honor, not one of war mongering and bloodthirsty nature promoted by de
Born. King Arthur in Sir Gawain is shown to have a taste for competition. Just before
the Christmastide feast, Arthur wants, some single knight / to join with him in
jousting. Although this competition inherently poses some life threatening danger, it
is not the intent of the game to bring about a death (96 97). De Born s description of
what is valuable in knighthood contrasts greatly with this Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight, repeatedly postulating that the only honor a knight can have is absolutely
decimating the enemy in
Social Psychology And Multiculturalism
Introduction Psychology has become an integrated part of our real life. Psychology
affects life under different theories and identifications. For example, social
psychology and multiculturalism work together to create the social change people
aspire to. However, social psychology, according to Jahoda (2016), cannot explain the
link between the social behaviorand the social norms of the society and culture.
Hence, social psychologycould be a challenge when a person tries other cultures.
Furthermore, there are ethical related issues with theories of psychology that aim at
creating positive social change wrapped by multiculturalism. Being an international
student in a different country, I see multiculturalism a very evolving term in social...

Cognitive Psychology focuses on cognitive aids psychologists use to deal with any
issue. It investigates all aspects of cognition memory, thinking, reasoning, language,
decision making, and so on (Baron Kalsher, 2008 p. 11). To solve a problem using
the cognitive aspect, psychologists need to explore people s attitudes, beliefs,
thoughts, perceptions, and storing and recalling information at certain times. For
example, as a social worker, I have different needy people to process their papers and
help them with monthly benefits; therefore, I have to make a judgment about them
based on the information sent to the brain to process. Cognitive Psychology includes
cognitive dissonance theory, which creates harmony among people. More
importantly, when people are under a dissonance behavior, they behave differently.
The function of Cognitive Psychology is reducing one s inner psychological pain
through investigating elements of discomfort. For instance, cognitive mapping helps
to create a scenario of what the brain is processing reflected by people s life.
When people interact and affect each other, they work within Social Psychology. For
example, if a problem arises in a certain organization, a team works together to get a
comprehensive understanding of the problem. Social Psychology studies our
attitudes, interpersonal relationships and intergroup interaction. Bandura (2006)
explained that there is an
Reflection Of Dracula
The famous novel Dracula written by Irish writer Bram Stoker in the late XIX
century still dominates the minds and imaginations of millions of readers around
the world. This book is not the first story to be written about vampires, but it has
become a classic of the genre, its standard and was the cause of the world obsession
with vampire theme. Ugly and terrible desire frightens the modern reader. Wide
public interest in horror literature says that the ugly aesthetics became a kind of
symbol of the new era. But at the same time, Bram Stoker touches a topic such as
religion or faith in God. Draculatells us what can become the soul of a man if it will
absorb the vice and sin. (Wolf, 2004) From the point of view of the composition,

Essay On Stonewall
General Thomas Stonewall Jackson is best known for being a war hero and one of
the South s most outstanding figures of the Civil War. His war tactics, leadership,
and success in battle cemented him as one of the most significant generals of early
American history. Thomas was born on January 21, 1824, in Clarksburg, Virginia.
Throughout his life he faced much adversity especially within his family with his
older sister and father passing when he was of young age. In his late teens (1842)
he enrolled at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He graduated in 1846 after
finding his way academically with much hard work. As Jackson was leaving West

California.
The book, The Privilege Of Youth is a book that shows young teen readers like, The
Golda Meir High School Community, the reality of being a teen going through the
foster care system. In the beginning, Dave (The main character) was only in his teen
years going through one of the most harsh conditions any teen is likely to face.
(Coming of age experience) He got bullied, and continued to be assaulted.
As the story continues to progress, Dave gets transferred to a new school and a new

However, small children can watch it, but please be aware that it s very intense.
This movie is very important because it exposes children to real world situations. It
offers guidance and continues to prompt teens in the right direction. In addition, it
relates to teens on a personal level. Therefore, if teens are exposed to this movie, it
will benefit them and influence teens to do what s right, which will eventually lead to
more teens being successful in the future.
I, personally, joyed the book, The Privilege of Youth. I would give it 5 out of 5
stars because it shows young teen readers, like myself the reality of going through
a coming of age experience, and most importantly how to overcome it. I liked
everything about the book, from the complex ideas to the majority of the conflicts
that surrounded the main character. The characters really made the theme pure and
vital. In addition, I loved all the imagery that played apart in the book, because it
portrayed a feeling that I was in the book. It made sense and had me thinking
higher level, which made me produce a lot of great questions. The ideal audience
for this book, would be teens. (13 19) It exposes a lot of real world things that can
have a huge impact on many teens

Long before beauty pageants, Barbie dolls, and extra ordinarily beautiful girls,
came about the idea of the female body. Whether you are a believer of
creationalism, scientology, or evolutionism, somehow we all came about with the
perception of the perfect female. Women have always been seen, and portrayed as
a sex symbol, and usually the disobedient one. Dating back to B.C and the story of
Adam and Eve, Eve was the naked one who bit into the fruit that god told her was
forbidden. Why couldn t it have been Adam that caused such scandal, and was the
cause for destruction, and crime in the world, and not Eve? From the believed

Everyday of their lives, people are bombarded with advertisements pushing to sell
them something, or broadcasting a new and upcoming television program. The
average American sees as many as 300 500 advertisements per day. Some see as
many as 1,200 a day. (Jean Kilbourne, Ed. D.) General media is tied with public
relations, and has become a source of entertainment to the public eye. Women are
usually seen as eye candy, to attract the male heterosexual audience. Men and woman
are usually portrayed in different ways, on national television, and Hollywood films.
Men usually play the tough guy, macho man roles, while the women are
predominately represented as white, young, glamorous, heterosexual, and less
influential then men. (Campbell and Carilli, 2005) Attractive women are usually
displayed in both male and female advertisements, and play a double role. Women
will think that if they purchase this product, they will resemble the model
advertising the product, and the men are tricked to think that if they purchase the
product, that they will attract women like the ones advertising the product. This is
the sex sells propaganda tactic. Models in the advertisements aren t supposed to
look like the average, ordinary people. To sell products, advertisers use computer
generation tools, to erase any flaws, to appeal to a consumer. The goals of print
media are usually reached, and out to target the younger audience. According to a

The Connection Between Masaccio s The Holy Trinity And...
Masaccio s Achieves a Grand Illusion of Depth By Using Perspective The
introduction of perspective to the world of art has significantly changed the way
art is created. Painting s like Masaccio s The Holy Trinity and The Virgin have
played a pivotal role in the history of art as both a definitive example of Early
Renaissance linear perspective and as a kind of prophetic forerunner of the
prospective method discussed nearly a century later by Leon Battista Alberti (Aiken
171). According to Jane Andrew Aiken, Perspective hadn t really been used much
when the time The Holy Trinityand The Virgin had been revealed to the world. The
painting had definitely received a notice by many connoisseurs of art for its different
painting style and focus of topic. Religion was an obvious main focus during the
time Masaccio had done this piece and the fact that he had drawn about the
crucifixion of JesusChrist had caught many people s eyes. The use of perspective in
Masaccio s The Holy Trinity and The Virgin causes the depiction of the crucifixion
of Jesus Christ to be the main focus in the artwork and give a sense of depth to the
painting to the viewers despite their point of view. Masaccio s painting that is in the
Santa Maria Novella consist of six apparent holy figures.
Interestingly, God the Father is shown standing on a platform in the back, which is
not an otherworldly place (where he would be traditionally depicted), but instead a
realistic space which
How Did The Scarlett Change
Scarlett O Hara, a charming sixteen year old teenage girl living on a plantation in
Georgia by the name of Tara, was always able to get exactly what she wanted. She
was able to flatter most of the men in the county into submission, however over the
course of the novel, Scarlett begins to change drastically due to events which include
the rage of The Civil War on Tara, several relationship conflicts, and loss of family
members. Scarlett O Hara spent much of her time concerning her many suitors but
gave extra consideration to a man named Ashley Wilkes. But she is distraught to find
out he is to be married to his cousin Melanie and from that point on her classic
southern, Georgia plantation style life was never the same. At a barbeque held by
many plantation owners and residences, Scarlett first meets Rhett Butler. This man

Upon the dawning of The Civil War, as he goes off to war, Ashley requests that
Scarlett takes care of Melanie who is pregnant and quite contrary to the expected,
Scarlett agrees. This decision had negative consequences because due to the lack
of residents in Tara, it was ransacked by Union soldiers. This event changed her and
though it may have been an extreme misfortune, it was a great way to help her
grow emotionally because she had to become stronger to help rebuild Tara. This
change will help Scarlett in future conflicts. A quote that applies to this hardship in
the book is that it was said to Scarlett hardships make or break people (Mitchell) In
this case, the hardship made Scarlett more than it broke
The Pros And Cons Of Conspiracy Theories
In a world plagued by natural disaster, assassinations, and terrorism, citizens of the
world tend to exaggerate or create ideas to explain events without clear answers.
As those ideas are spread, conspiracy theories are born. They are used to explain
reality, but why would we need to explain reality when there are experts to decode
it for us? Like with the Watergate scandal, the government is not always trustworthy
and the populace refuses to believe they are not lying until certified proof is
presented. By not being in full control, we as humans begin to question the
authenticity of everything around us. People believe in conspiracy theories because
of their psychology. Though the likelihood of believing certain theories changes
from person to person, the overall cause is similar; feeling as though you lack
control of your life means you are more susceptible to believing in conspiracy
theories. Often after times of uncertainty, such as... Show more content on

The more that people feared the millennium bug in 1999, the more likely they were
inclined to believe in other conspiracy theories, ranging from Kennedy to the

essence of conspiracy theorizing is, I think, universal in human beings. People have
a natural tendency to be suspicious of groups that are powerful and potentially

there was an evolutionary reason to believe in conspiracy theories and he responded,

Kevin Mitnick Hacker
What kind of a personality must a hacker have? It is obvious that someone who
hacks into computer systems, is more than just some anti social nerd . Specifically,
one of the
World s most wanted hackers, Kevin Mitnick. In his national bestselling book Ghost
in the
Wires: My Adventures as the World s Most Wanted HackerMitnick explains his
childhood and ways he used his hacking personality to not only hack computers, but
life.
Living in the Los Angeles area, Mitnick often took the bus. He states, Riding the
buses was for me a bit like being on holiday... (Mitnick 5). However, the bus cost
money to take, and at a very young age Mitnick figured out a way to cheat the bus
system and not pay any money at all. The thought was, If I could punch ... Show more

To achieve his plan in not having to pay for the bus Mitnick walked to the front of
the bus and sat down in the closest seat to the driver.
When he stopped at a light, [he] said, I m working on a school project and I need to
punch interesting shapes on pieces of cardboard. The punch you use on transfers
would be great for me.
Is there someplace I can buy one? (5). This way of lying about who you are and or
what you need, etc... in order to get information to solve a problem is called social
engineering.
Mitnick will use social engineering for much of his hacking career, but in this
particular first instance he fell into a subcategory called helpfulness . Helpfulness
exploits many people s natural instinct to help others solve problems (Lemons).
Mitnick took advantage of the bus
Carville 2 driver s willingness to help him for a school project in order to get what he
needed to hack the bus system. From Mitnick s perspective, this was probably a
harmless way in order to save a few dollars, but little did he know this would be a
major part of his life. Personally, I believe it is morally wrong to have tricked the bus
driver for means of doing something illegal. But, was
Women s Role For Women
The possession of attributes or rather qualities that are traditionally associated with
men is called masculinity. Men have always felt superior to women while women
are referred to as the weaker sex. Boys are raised up knowing that they are the
stronger gender and that there are some tasks, which they can perform well than their
female counterparts. The debate about equality for both genders has dominated the
media over the years, from the times of feminism (the 1980s) to post feminism
(Hokowhitu).
In politics, the belief about masculinity is still a major issue that has been discussed
over the years. Women fight to receive equal treatment in leadership and
representation at the governments top positions. This paper focuses on 2016 ... Show

According to Monobina Gupta, Trump and his son reflect a deeper cultural malaise
present in the country. Such discriminating talks by men have led to the rise of
feminists like Phyllis Schlafly and Michelle Obama, whose aim is to fight for
equality between the two genders. Trump is against the feminism culture that is
slowly gaining popularity. The feeling of masculinity and the notion those women
are not strong enough to handle some physically demanding jobs has been a
challenge for those women who strive to compete with men in such areas of work.
Michelle came up strongly against Trump s campaign that is based on discriminating
women by terming them as a weaker sex. She talked about a post feminism era
where people should be talking about equality and not a fight among male and female
genders. To her, Trump s masculine chauvinism takes the country back to the 1980s
when feminists rose against gender discrimination on women (Gupta).
Towards the end of his commentary, Gupta still displays his doubt on women
leadership. He mentions several female leaders like the British Prime Minister Teresa

15 Year Old Research Paper
A 15 year old is just becoming an adult and it is imperative that they make healthy
eating decisions. They have to overcome the pressures of just eating sugar all day
and not being active. It may become easy to fall into a universe full of fun and not
looking after yourself. A healthy 15 year old will eat on average 1,800 to 2,400
calories every day. But not only will they have to eat this many calories, but the
calories must come from different places. Someone can t just eat 2,000 calories of
pure fat, like candy. A good healthy lifestyle would mean to eat about 60% to 70%
of carbohydrates and only around 25% of fats. The teen must also start exercising,
not necessarily working out vigorously, but they have to move their bodies. The
best thing a teen can do to get that oh so important exercise is to simply do
something active for at least an hour a day. With this diet and exercise, a teen will be

A Sorrowful Woman Vs A Secret Sorrow
A Sorrowful Woman vs A Secret Sorrow
Children, Marriage and Love are the three main factors of the two short stories, A
Sorrowful Woman by Gail Godwin, and A Secret Sorrow by Karen van der Zee.
Two relationships at risk because of children. Neither of them knows what to do but
try to find solutions to solve their problems. They end up having different outcomes.
In both stories, both woman face a major issue. In Godwin s story the main female
character is suffering depression and always feeling sad and tired from being around
her child and taking care of him and her husband. However, Faye in van der Zee s
story is struggling with, her reality of not being able to have children and she s
afraid of marrying her boyfriend, who is madly in love with her, because she s afraid
of disappointing him. Both woman are unsure how to handle their problem and their
first instinct is to keep their distance and avoid their issues. Communication also
played a huge role in both situations. In A Secret Sorrow Kai wouldn t let Faye just
walk away from him without knowing what was wrong and wanted an explanation.
That was the main key to their breakthrough. In A Sorrowful Woman the husband
would just agree with whatever his wife said and would abide by her commands no
matter how much it hurt him. If the husband would ve tried to figure out why she
was so sad and sick; things might ve gone differently.
In van der Zee s story Kai made Faye s tragedy his tragedy and made sure to let her

To what degree does this perspective on dystopian novels and films resonate with
your own reading?
Dystopian texts fulfil the purpose of exaggerating contemporary issues and
appropriating them into a fictional universe, in order to criticise and foreshadow the
destructive trajectory of current political and social trends (Ferris, 2007). Dystopia,

Howey criticises the narrow vision of contemporary society, and our growing
tendency to view the world through a screen (GGG, 2013). For the inhabitants of
the silo, the outside world can only be seen through a projected image, captured by
sensors. The inhabitants of the silo are content by this, and are convinced that the
image they see is the truth. They do not question or breed curiosity to discover
more. Wool demonstrates the deception a society can live under when it becomes
too reliant on technology as seen in The illusion, however, convinced only from a

from technology s augmenting role in society. This is shown through the hierarchy
and power division of the silo in Wool. The IT faculty play a fundamental role in
orchestrating the façade in which the rest of the silo lives under and are
responsible for enforcing the suppressive regime of the silo. Howey conveys the
dangerous influence technology can have on society when he says, His discovery

Literary Techniques Used in November Cotton Flower by
Jean...
Slavery in the south was brutal as anybody could imagine an idea expressed by
Jean Toomer through his poem called November Cotton Flower . The poem is
fourteen lines of rhyming verse describing the harsh, sudden and questionable
bloom of a cotton flower in the month of November. It is composed of heroic
couplets, with a regular rhyme scheme, which is as follows: A, A, B, B, C, C, D,
D, E, E, F, G, H, H, but the poem reads like Shakespearian sonnet three quatrains
developing a certain tone and theme, followed by a couplet that undercuts or
reverses them. In the beginning it portrays the scuffle for survival of cotton flower
during November s harsh winter weather; but towards the end, it describes the
sudden bloom of it. The author goes in depth with most of the descriptions to give
a reader a clear and strong mental image. The poem describes the weather and its
effect on cotton flower by pointing out the dying branches and vanishing cotton. The
image of insufficiency, struggle and death parallel the oppression of African
American race. The beginning of the poem illustrates the struggle and suffering of
the cotton flower; which represent the misery of African Americans and also gives
an idea that there is no hope for them. But at the end the speaker says brown eyes
that loves without a trace of fear/ Beauty so sudden for that time of year (lines 13

Religion in James Joyce s Dubliners Essay
Religion in James Joyce s Dubliners Religion was an integral part of Ireland during
the modernist period, tightly woven into the social fabric of its citizens. The Catholic
Churchwas a longstanding tradition of Ireland. In the modernist spirit of breaking
away from forces that inhibited growth, the church stood as one of the principal
barriers. This is because the Catholic faith acted as the governing force of its people,

This is mainly due to the fact that both adhere to a certain agreed ideas of how
people should act. The majority of any given population makes decisions on a
daily basis using both law and religion to guide their actions. However, when
matters of fairness and equity are questioned the government must make an
adhered to ruling. In the story The Boarding House , Joyce presents us with an
image of Ireland where religion is the governing force in determining equitable
situations. This is clearly apparent when Mrs. Mooney experiences trouble with
her marriage and seeks a separation. This situation is described as, She went to the
priest and got a separation from him with care of the children (72). For most
societies a situation like this would fall under the category of civil law, and be
decided in a court of law. The fact that Mrs. Mooney went to the priest to solve a
domestic dispute, and not to an attorney shows that the citizens of Ireland regarded
the church as the head figure of Ireland. Anytime that the ruling authority of a
country is anything other than its own constitution, the only outcome is a
constricted and less prosperous society. This is evident in emerging countries
where two or more political parties fighting for control of the people. When a
religion is the head of state for a country, the actions of its people are subjected to
moral and ethical beliefs. This is unfair in concept, due to the fact not all citizens of a
Cause And Effect On Smoking
. One thing that people over 60 can do to make aging a healthier process is to avoid
smoking. Smoking on average, decreases a person s life span by 14 years.
Smoking is a leading cause of lung cancer (Aldwin Gilmer, 2013). It is never to late
for someone to stop smoking. With smoking cessation, the results are immediate.
Those who quit smoking generally experience improvements in breathing and
control of high blood pressure. Cessation of smoking brings a rapid reduction in risk
of stroke and myocardial infarction and a slower reduction in the risk of cancer
(Boston University School of Public Health, 2013). Good cholesterol is lowered in
individuals who smoke and chances of atherosclerosis increases in the body due to
an increase in blood fibrinogen and viscosity levels, which can lead to blood clots
(Aldwin Gilmer, 2013).
2. As people age, the individual s energy or caloric needs are less. However, the
protein, vitamins and minerals requirements remain constant. Healthy older adults
should increase the amount of protein the diet to maintain muscle mass, especially if
the person is sick. Overweight individuals should consider lowering fat intake. Also,
nutritional intakes should incorporate ample amounts of calcium and vitamins
(Aldwin Gilmer, 2013). The aging person should also consume fiber rich foods such
as whole grains, fruit, and vegetables which will make them feel more energetic and
give you fuel to keep going (Saisan, Segal, White, 2017). Exercise, a
Let Me Start By Telling A Interview Essay
Let me start by telling a short story about someone I know. She spent weeks
applying to jobs, and one afternoon, she got a call from her number one choice
asking for an interview. While at the interview, she was asked several questions about
her prior education and qualifications. The boss was very impressed with what he
had heard, and he told her that her interviewwas the best one he has had in years. At
the conclusion of the interview, the boss stood to shake her hand; however, when
she stood to return the shake, her crop top that she wore under her blazer was
revealed. She never got a call back saying she got the job.
The way one dresses for an interview, whether the interview be for a job, internship,
or scholarship, can determine whether or not he gets the position or whatever for
which he has applied. Some people think that, in order to look professional, a lot of

percent per year from 2008 to 2012 (Study 2014).
With students consistently having to spend more money on education, most students
cannot afford to go out and buy new business professional or casual clothing;
however, this is not a bad thing. Amber Aziza, a career jump starter, says that it is

Rice Paddies and Bologna: Gladwell s Broad Generalizations of Success
In Malcom Gladwell s Outliers, Gladwell defines success as hidden advantages and
social predestination as stated by critic Michiko Kakutani. Kakutani argues that
Gladwell s hypotheses are not cohesive and are selective to support his idea. I concur
with Kakutani. Gladwell does not provide adequate examples and counterarguments
to give his theory a concrete foundation. This creates a very unconvincing argument.
Gladwell asserts that success comes from factors and advantages that are mostly
overlooked such as birth dates and cultural backgrounds; however, his ideas are
loosely based, overly generalized, and unreliable.
Now, with technology advancing at the same rate as society matures and changes,
success is a concept that can be different to many different groups of people.
Gladwell insists that success is formulated through a series of hidden advantages and
cultural legacies that are fixed, therefore that s why many do not become successful.
I simply do not feel that is the case. Success is achieved through ambition and hard
work that is instilled in you. Anyone has the power to take matters into their own
hands and create their own success.
Gladwell used many anecdotes and stories to push his hypotheses. An example would
be the two chapters titled The Trouble with Geniuses Part One and The Trouble With
Geniuses Part Two . In these chapters, Gladwell introduces Chris Langan, a man with
an IQ higher
Theme Of Guilt In The Seventh Man
Survivor guilt is when someone feels guilty for surviving a traumatic event when
somebody else didn t. The story The Seventh Man was told by a narrator whose
friend was killed by a wave from a tsunami. The narrator was at the beach with his
friend K, during the eye of a tsunami when all of a sudden, the waves resume. The
narrator attempts to get K s attention, but he fails to do so. The fear begins to take
over when he starts running to safety, K unfortunately didn t realize the wave until
it was too late and he was engulfed. Ever since that day, the narrator has lived his
whole life blaming himself for the death of his friend K.. If the narrator would have
tried any harder to save K he would have died as well, which is why he should
forgive himself for his failure in doing so.
Guilt can change people in many different and extreme ways, which makes sense,
but on the other hand doesn t if you never did anything wrong. Guilt takes a huge
toll on the narrator of The Seventh Man, to the point that he has to give up many
things he loves. I had always enjoyed swimming, but after that day I never even
went in a swimming pool. I wouldn t go near deep rivers or lakes. I avoided boats
and wouldn t take a plane to go abroad (Murakami 141). It seems strange for the
narrator to act this way when he didn t do anything, there wasn t anything he could
ve done differently so that K would be alive. That s why he should forgive himself
so that way he wouldn t have had to give up the things he loves, his life could have
been happier, more fulfilling, and definitely a lot happier.
As soon as he noticed that the storm was reappearing he alerted his friend, but knew
that K. was unable to hear him, which is one of the reasons K. didn t survive, some
say that the narrator shouldn t forgive himself for that reason. Saying something and
doing something are different things, some might say that just saying something
doesn t accomplish anything without actually doing something, which is why some
might argue that the narrator should feel bad for what happened to K. Sometimes
when you do something it can be the case of someone to get hurt. Captain Prior had
cleared vehicles to be sent out, the ones that killed Privet Meyke in freak

machines (PMs) each of which may be shared by multiple VMs. To minimize
overall VM provisioning delays and operational costs, we assume that the PMs are
grouped into three pools; hot (running), warm (turned on, but not ready) and cold
(turned off). Maintaining the PMs in three pools (in general, multiple tiered pools)
helps to minimize power and cooling costs without incurring high startup delays for
all VMs. A pre instantiated VM can be readily provisioned and brought to ready state
on a running PM (hot PM) with minimum provisioning delay. Instantiating a VM

Research Paper On Simone De Beauvoir
Man is defined as a human being and a woman as a female whenever she behaves
as a human being she is said to imitate the male. French writer Simone de Beauvoir
laid the foundation for the modern feminist movement. She was born in Paris,
France on January 9, 1908 and raised by a Catholic mother and father who was a
lawyer. During World War I, her family finances diminished and as a result, de
Beauvoir saw the expected and burdened chores given to her mother as the
homemaker and caregiver. This inspired de Beauvoir s future writings; she vowed to

Napoleon s Influence On The French Revolution
Napoleon had many impacts on the French Revolution between 1797 and 1815, due
to his commanding of his military. Napoleon had many Political, and Military
impacts on the French revolution. Military general and first emperor of France,
Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769, in Ajaccio, Corsica, France. One
of the most celebrated leaders in the history of the West, he revolutionised military
organization and training, sponsored Napoleonic Code, reorganised education and
established the long lived Concordat with the papacy. He died on May 5, 1821, on
the island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean. Some of his political impacts

He did this to raise funds towards his military campaigns. During these years,
Napoleon reestablished a French aristocracy, that was eliminated during the
French revolution, and began handing out titles of nobility to his loyal friends and
family as his empire continued to expand across much of western and central
continental Europe. He did this so he didn t have to manage all of his armies
/colonies at once, and could therefore manage his main army on all of his
conquests. As far as political and civil liberties were concerned, Napoleon largely
suppressed them with strict censorship and the establishment of a virtual police
state in order to protect his power. However, Napoleon saw equality as a politically
useful concept that he could maintain with little threat to his position. After all,
everyone, at least all men, were equally under his power. One of his main
accomplishments as a ruler was the establishment of the Napoleonic Civil Law
Codes, which made all men equal under the law while maintaining their legal power
over women. Therefore, any hopes women may have had of the Revolution
improving their legal position were thwarted by Napoleon. Napoleon saw
nationalism as crucial to maintaining the loyalty of the French people to his regime.
After all, it was the spirit of nationalism that had inspired its armies in a remarkable
series of victories that had especially benefited Napoleon and allowed his
The Marshmallow Test
In the 1960 s, Walter Mischel and colleagues researched delaying gratification in
children. The development of the simply designed marshmallow test yielded a better
understanding of delaying gratification in children. The success of the marshmallow
test generated a greater interest in understanding human self control and fellow
researchers continued to examine delaying gratificationand self control. B.J Casey,
PhD, of Weill Cornell Medical College, Mischel, Yuichi Shoda, PhD, of the
University of Washington, and colleagues further examine Mischel s earlier research.
This continuation of the experiment and advances in medical research allowed for
Casey et al. to examine the neurological basis of gratification in adults. This research
allows for a better understand in how a childs ability to delay gratification can effect
them across their lifespan. However, social environment factors also contribute to
difference in self control and ability to delay gratification. In the experiment,
Mischel and his colleagues individually tested preschoolers ability to delay
gratification using the marshmallow test. The child would be given a plate of treats,
such as marshmallows, and told the researcher had to leave for a few minutes. But,
before the researcher left the child was given two options: they could wait for the
researcher to return and be rewarded with two marshmallows or once the researcher
left they could ring a bell and the researcher would immediately return, except the
Angel Food Cake Is A Popular, Light, And Airy Cake
1. Introduction
Angel food cake is a popular, light, and airy cake, which is prepared with albumen
rather than yolk. This baked good is a common choice when studying albumens
quality (Sauter Montoure, 1975). The proteins in albumen which will give angel
food cake its desired consistency are ovalbumin and globulins (Abu Ghoush et al.
2010). According to Mleko et al. (2010), the foaming properties of the albumen is
key to preparing angel food cake. If the whites are over foamed, the cake will not
expand, if not foamed enough, the cake will not posses the desired textural
properties (Mleko et al. 2010). The goal of this experiment was to observe the
properties of eggs, namely the whites, in an angel food cake.
2. Materials Methods
2.1 Treatment types
In this experiment, 5 different treatments, each performed in quadruplicate, were
used to produce angel food cakes. All treatments incorporated the following total
ingredients, which were outlined in the recipe provided in lab: 120 g of egg white, 0.6
g salt, 1.6 g cream of tartar, 122 g sugar, 44.0 g cake flour.
Treatment 1 and 2 followed the recipe, however the first used the whites of eggs
collected September 13th, 2016, and the latter, September 26th, 2016. Treatment 3
required commercial egg whites, procured from a carton. Treatments 4 and 5
possessed 1 ml of yolk, added to the whites of the whites of September 13th and 26th
respectively.

How Does Assimilation Affects Individual Identity
How many technological devices do you use daily? In this day and age, the list
would probably include smart phones, laptop computers, tablets, or more, but do
you know where these devices were made? Even if your device was assembled
locally, there is a good chance that the parts inside come from a collaboration of
companies working together from all over the globe that are part of the global
supply chain. For the last few decades, more and more companies rely on
outsourcing, to produce their products and to provide services. Which in effect has
globalized our world, and depends on countries being able to collaborate and work
together to provide the products and services demanded by the customers at the end
of the supply chain. As an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this global supply chain and the flattening of the world is raising the
standards of living of the people in developing nations, one must contemplate what is
also being stripped away from these people in return for the increase in wealth. While
assimilating to the customs and values of the western world might seem necessary
for these countries to be able to work together and communicate, this assimilation
affects individual identity as well as national identity. The assimilationrequired by
global supply chains strips countries, such as India, of their cultural heritage and
requires workers to Westernize and cover their true identities in order to work in the
jobs that will raise their standard of living. Therefore, despite the positive economic
effects that assimilation has on developing countries, the negative effects on culture
and individuals the stripping away of identity and self are points often overlooked
and are damaging to the countries and individuals that are stuck in limbo in between
identities. When assimilation plays in conjunction with The Dell Theory, it becomes
a positive arrangement because countries involved with the global supply chain are
more hesitant to go to war with each other. The countries in the supply chain are
obligated to come to mutual understandings, in which they cooperate with each other,
regardless of their differences; otherwise, they risk losing their position in the supply
chain. This confirms what Yoshino says
Cathedral Of Chartres Essay
The presence made by the Windows has not gone unnoticed and thanks to Abbot
Suger for his love of stained glass we can continue to rejoice in his vision. Suger
noted in his own words, Thus, when out of my delight in the beauty of the house of
God the loveliness of the many colored gems has called me away from external
cares, and worthy meditation has induced me to reflect, transferring that which is
material to that which is immaterial, on the diversity of the sacred virtues: then it
seems to me that I see myself dwelling, as it were, in some strange region of the
universe which neither exists entirely in the slime of the earth nor entirely in the
purity of Heaven; and that, by the grace of God, I can be transported from this inferior

The Cathedral of Chartres is located Southwest of Paris in Chartres, France. The
Cathedral of Chartres is considered one of the most exquisite representations of the
French Gothic architectural style. This Cathedral was constructed during 1194
through 1250, yet still contains many of its original artifacts such as the stained glass
art. The North facing Rose Window displays the Old Testament and is dedicated to
the Virgin. These images within the Rose represent Judah and the twelve Kings
and the 12 Prophets. The Cathedrale Norte Dame de Chartres claims, Thus the Old
Testament is portrayed as the support of the New; the four Evangelists ride on the
shoulders of the four Major Prophets: Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel and Daniel. The
North Rose Windows patrons were members of the royal house of Louis IX. The
South Rose Window consists of the New Testament and is dedicated to Christ. The
Windows depict the Apocalypse, Evangelists and Prophets, while the Mary holds
the Christ Child in lancets below. By this point in Medieval Architecture stained
glass has soured to new heights and has taken over the nearly the entire inside of
places of worship. The stained glass in many holy places does not stop with a Rose
Window, but simply begins

A World Of Big Business, Public Relations
In a world of big business, public relations (PR) is a key area that businesses
should always incorporate as part of its business strategy. It can build the
credibility of the company and can be utilize as a marketing device. Most
companies will hire a PR spokesperson to address the public in either a press
conference or other public forums. It is the specialized upkeep of a positive public
appearance by a company, organization or famed person. The perception of the public
towards any of these entities can weigh heavy on the decisions they will make,
whether they will support, purchase or reject that entity. These type of decisions can
ultimately affect the reputation, profitability and long term success of the company.

The pilot could have lost consciousness during mid flight or during take off which
would have caused for an emergency landing, leaving passengers frantic and
concerned about their safety, connecting flight and delays in arrival time. The
challenges of this situations is the 24 hour requirement to report the incident to the
FAA that will inevitably become public information. Although the co pilot handled
the situation excellently, it could still cause for a number of speculation from the
public about the quality and health of the staff, the safety of flying on this particular
airline and potentially create a bad imagine which will deter passengers from booking
future flight with the airline. How does one comply with requirements and protect
the company s reputation at the same time, avoid potential negative fallout and
maintain integrity. There are a few ways to approach this situation.
Approach 1
The first approach could be, a fast Press release providing facts with minimal
details. It would address the situation of the aircraft pilot being taken to the hospital,
noting that it had no bearing on the safe landing of the aircraft. This approach has its
pros and cons, for instance getting word out to the public quickly could avoid
potential damaging reporting with false claims or unverified information. It will
appear as though the airline is being transparent about the incident and show a
proactive approach allowing the airline to get ahead
A Six-Hour Workday Is Fair
A Eight Hour Workday Is Fair. After reading both articles, A Six Hour Workday Is
Plenty. and Six Hour Days Will Never Work. , I am in agreeance with the second
article that a six hour day is not enough and will not work. As stated in Six Hour
Days Will Never Work. as an employee only working six hours will result in a
decrease of a quarter of your pay. Another supporting factor from the article that
persuaded my decision was the experiment Swedan s Kiruna District Council did,
allowing two hundred and fifty employees to work six hour days for sixteen years.
The experiment was unsuccessful, and converted back to eight hour work days due
to the expense of having to employee more workers to make up the hours. In A Six
Hour Workday

Thinking Essay.pdf

  • 1. Thinking Essay Writing an essay on the topic of "Thinking" is no easy feat. The challenge lies in the abstract and multifaceted nature of the subject itself. The very act of contemplating thinking can be a paradox, as it requires a meta-cognitive approach that delves into the intricacies of human cognition. One faces the daunting task of navigating through various philosophical, psychological, and even neuroscientific perspectives on thinking. Each viewpoint introduces its own complexities and nuances, making it a formidable task to synthesize a coherent narrative. Balancing between theoretical abstraction and practical examples is essential to ensure the essay is not too esoteric or detached from real-life scenarios. Furthermore, one must grapple with the challenge of defining thinking itself. Is it a purely cognitive process, or does it involve emotions and intuition? Does it differ among individuals, cultures, or time periods? These questions add layers of complexity that demand careful consideration and analysis. Moreover, crafting an engaging and thought-provoking essay on thinking requires a deep exploration of various thinking modes – critical thinking, creative thinking, analytical thinking, and more. Each of these dimensions adds a layer of intricacy, and drawing connections between them necessitates a careful threading of ideas. In terms of structure, the essay must strike a balance between depth and accessibility. It should cater to a diverse audience, from those with a background in philosophy to those approaching the topic with a more practical mindset. This balancing act is challenging but crucial for ensuring the essay's impact and relevance. Ultimately, writing an essay on thinking demands not just intellectual rigor but also a certain level of introspection. It calls for the writer to engage in the very act they are exploring – thinking about thinking. This recursive process can be mentally taxing but is essential for the authenticity and depth of the essay. In conclusion, tackling the "Thinking" essay is an intricate dance between conceptual exploration, practical illustration, and introspective analysis. The writer must navigate through the labyrinth of ideas with finesse, providing readers with a nuanced understanding of the subject. It is a task that requires not just knowledge but a keen intellectual curiosity. For those who find themselves daunted by the complexity of such an essay, it's worth considering seeking assistance. Similar essays and more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net, where experienced writers can provide the support needed to navigate the intricate landscape of thinking. Thinking EssayThinking Essay

First Person Narration in Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper and Edgar Allen Poe s the Black Cat In The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman and The Black Cat By Edgar Allen Poe, two short and sinister stories, 1st person narration is used by both authors to create atmospheric tension and unease. By using 1st person narration, a story told through the eyes of one person present in that story, the authors can get far more intimate and detailed in the individual characters feelings and emotions. This makes it an invaluable style of writing if the readers are intended to empathise with the character. It is controlled voyeurism, peering into another s consciences and seeing the world through their eyes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The style of diary type writing is kept the same throughout, and although the quality never varies, the unease comes from the increasingly peculiar fascinations that are the topic of the journal (the wallpaper, for example); From; The color is repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow… An innocent, if somewhat disapproving comment on the colour of the wallpaper, to such ravings as: The front pattern DOES move and no wonder! The woman behind it shakes it! The reasoning becomes increasingly irrational and far fetched, compared to the cold logic from the narrator of The Black Cat . The atmosphere and sense of unease is greatly affected by the ability to see into someone else s mind. Using a 1st person narrative in this context only adds to the overall ominous and immoral feeling of witnessing such events, to be witnessing them at the hands of the criminals and victims. Poe uses it to create a more fearful yet explainable chain of events; I detail with awe, nothing more than an ordinary succession of very natural causes and effects. While Gilman eases the reader into a comfortable state of psychosis slowly, without even realising at first; But in the places where it isn t faded and where the sun is just so I can see a strange, provoking, formless sort of figure, that seems to skulk about behind that

I loved to go to school I get to see my friends there, even though I don t like learning math so much I loved it at Byron Center I have been going here since 1st grade Actually. I walked inside the doors of the middle school looked around and found my group of friends, I basically flew to them because I was so excited to see them. We had so much in common though like we both dance, both like the same bands, and we both even liked the same restaurants The bus that was bringing us to kentucky was at the church. It was time to go to bed after dinner. So I started to get my pjs on and I went to go brush my teeth. It was a cold night so I brought a coat and wore some slippers to go to the bathroom. Buck Call Quotes The relations between Buck and the human he encounters are marked not surprisingly, by opposing forces, actions, roles or values: love and hate, master and slave, uneasy truce and open war, hunter and victim. Buck enters the story in his sustaining California environment as ruler of all he surveys: he was king, king over all creeping, crawling flying things of Judge Miller s place, humansincluded. Taken out of that happy valley, he was starved and mistreated by his captors and then subdued by the brutal club of a shrewd, red sweated man. The man conquers Buck and Buck hates him; yet the beating brings with it the curiously ambiguous relation between master and slave: When the man brought him water he drank eagerly, and later bolted a generous meal of raw meat, chunk by chunk from the man s hand. Buck s understanding of humanbeings will henceforth be defined by power and the politic dispensing of the necessities of life. The next three chapters bring Buck under the benevolent tutelage of Perrault and Francois, master still, but fair and above all, schooled in the ways of the North. Buck s own competence increases apace. Though life on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Divides like this recur throughout the book, and each time Buck crosses one, he enters a world whose constituent parts are silence, wilderness, an increasingly nonhuman void whatever was opposite to the world he has left. In the last chapter, Buck, Thornton and two other men enter more deeply the uncharted
  • 5. Example Of Classroom Observation The past semester of classroom observations has been very meaningful to me. In the past, I had to dedicate all 20 hours to a single subject, typically reading, writing, or math. So, to be able to put in time during different hours of the day was very enlightening as it allowed me to further expand my knowledge of the teaching profession. When I show up everyday at the same time I tend to see the same practices and assessments being used. I divided my time between a third grade classroom and a fifth grade classroom. My time spent observing assessments and practices along with discussions about each with my mentors has been a valuable learning experience for me. Common Core State Standards are followed in the district I observed in. As part of the curriculum, every Thursday morning is spent testing on that week s material. In the third grade classroom their reading tests consists of two two page stories with 11 questions each; there are 10 multiple choice questions and two short essay questions. Every four weeks they have a big unit test. Again, there are two stories, but this test contains only essay questions. The thing that was most surprising to me was how well behaved this class was. Reading starts at 8:00am and lasts 80 minutes; the students are very respectful of their testing time and work silently at their desks. I was very impressed that third graders could be quiet for that amount of time. If they finish early, then they are able to read one of their library books. On a couple of occasions, I was able to work at the back of the room with the below reading level students; there are five of them and they set as a group at a horseshoe table. Instructions for them are modified to allow the questions to be read aloud to them by the teacher or a para. They were still responsible for reading the story silently to themselves. I enjoyed doing this and I believe it was very beneficial for the students as it helped them to stay focused. In the fifth grade classroom I was able to witness assessments in math and reading. At Parkview School every grade does Mad Minute practice every day, and then they test for a grade on Thursday. Made Minute is 40 math problems and the students are given

The chivalry that the author describes is unrealistic, and portrays a falsified chivalric system in the time of Arthurian legends. It is an overzealous sense of honor and concern about the court s reputation that begins the plot, and it is a continued adherence to chivalric values that actually ensures that the plot actually progresses. De Born speaks for the knightly masses here, demonstrating the group s love of war (Editors). This illustrates a vastly different picture of knighthood than shown in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The kind of knighthood shown in Sir Gawain is one of majesty and honor, not one of war mongering and bloodthirsty nature promoted by de Born. King Arthur in Sir Gawain is shown to have a taste for competition. Just before the Christmastide feast, Arthur wants, some single knight / to join with him in jousting. Although this competition inherently poses some life threatening danger, it is not the intent of the game to bring about a death (96 97). De Born s description of what is valuable in knighthood contrasts greatly with this Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, repeatedly postulating that the only honor a knight can have is absolutely decimating the enemy in

Cognitive Psychology focuses on cognitive aids psychologists use to deal with any issue. It investigates all aspects of cognition memory, thinking, reasoning, language, decision making, and so on (Baron Kalsher, 2008 p. 11). To solve a problem using the cognitive aspect, psychologists need to explore people s attitudes, beliefs, thoughts, perceptions, and storing and recalling information at certain times. For example, as a social worker, I have different needy people to process their papers and help them with monthly benefits; therefore, I have to make a judgment about them based on the information sent to the brain to process. Cognitive Psychology includes cognitive dissonance theory, which creates harmony among people. More importantly, when people are under a dissonance behavior, they behave differently. The function of Cognitive Psychology is reducing one s inner psychological pain through investigating elements of discomfort. For instance, cognitive mapping helps to create a scenario of what the brain is processing reflected by people s life. When people interact and affect each other, they work within Social Psychology. For example, if a problem arises in a certain organization, a team works together to get a comprehensive understanding of the problem. Two relationships at risk because of children. Neither of them knows what to do but try to find solutions to solve their problems. They end up having different outcomes. In both stories, both woman face a major issue. In Godwin s story the main female character is suffering depression and always feeling sad and tired from being around her child and taking care of him and her husband. However, Faye in van der Zee s story is struggling with, her reality of not being able to have children and she s afraid of marrying her boyfriend, who is madly in love with her, because she s afraid of disappointing him. Both woman are unsure how to handle their problem and their first instinct is to keep their distance and avoid their issues. Communication also played a huge role in both situations. In A Secret Sorrow Kai wouldn t let Faye just walk away from him without knowing what was wrong and wanted an explanation. That was the main key to their breakthrough. In A Sorrowful Woman the husband would just agree with whatever his wife said and would abide by her commands no matter how much it hurt him. Slavery in the south was brutal as anybody could imagine an idea expressed by Jean Toomer through his poem called November Cotton Flower . The poem is fourteen lines of rhyming verse describing the harsh, sudden and questionable bloom of a cotton flower in the month of November. It is composed of heroic couplets, with a regular rhyme scheme, which is as follows: A, A, B, B, C, C, D, D, E, E, F, G, H, H, but the poem reads like Shakespearian sonnet three quatrains developing a certain tone and theme, followed by a couplet that undercuts or reverses them. In the beginning it portrays the scuffle for survival of cotton flower during November s harsh winter weather; but towards the end, it describes the sudden bloom of it. The author goes in depth with most of the descriptions to give a reader a clear and strong mental image. The poem describes the weather and its effect on cotton flower by pointing out the dying branches and vanishing cotton. The image of insufficiency, struggle and death parallel the oppression of African American race. The beginning of the poem illustrates the struggle and suffering of the cotton flower; which represent the misery of African Americans and also gives an idea that there is no hope for them. But at the end the speaker says brown eyes that loves without a trace of fear/ Beauty so sudden for that time of year (lines 13 14). This is mainly due to the fact that both adhere to a certain agreed ideas of how people should act. The majority of any given population makes decisions on a daily basis using both law and religion to guide their actions. However, when matters of fairness and equity are questioned the government must make an adhered to ruling. In the story The Boarding House , Joyce presents us with an image of Ireland where religion is the governing force in determining equitable situations. This is clearly apparent when Mrs. Mooney experiences trouble with her marriage and seeks a separation. This situation is described as, She went to the priest and got a separation from him with care of the children (72). For most societies a situation like this would fall under the category of civil law, and be decided in a court of law. The fact that Mrs. Mooney went to the priest to solve a domestic dispute, and not to an attorney shows that the citizens of Ireland regarded the church as the head figure of Ireland. Anytime that the ruling authority of a country is anything other than its own constitution, the only outcome is a constricted and less prosperous society. This is evident in emerging countries where two or more political parties fighting for control of the people. Smoking is a leading cause of lung cancer (Aldwin Gilmer, 2013). It is never to late for someone to stop smoking. With smoking cessation, the results are immediate. Those who quit smoking generally experience improvements in breathing and control of high blood pressure. Cessation of smoking brings a rapid reduction in risk of stroke and myocardial infarction and a slower reduction in the risk of cancer (Boston University School of Public Health, 2013). Good cholesterol is lowered in individuals who smoke and chances of atherosclerosis increases in the body due to an increase in blood fibrinogen and viscosity levels, which can lead to blood clots (Aldwin Gilmer, 2013). 2. As people age, the individual s energy or caloric needs are less. However, the protein, vitamins and minerals requirements remain constant. Healthy older adults should increase the amount of protein the diet to maintain muscle mass, especially if the person is sick. Overweight individuals should consider lowering fat intake. Rice Paddies and Bologna: Gladwell s Broad Generalizations of Success In Malcom Gladwell s Outliers, Gladwell defines success as hidden advantages and social predestination as stated by critic Michiko Kakutani. Kakutani argues that Gladwell s hypotheses are not cohesive and are selective to support his idea. I concur with Kakutani. Gladwell does not provide adequate examples and counterarguments to give his theory a concrete foundation. This creates a very unconvincing argument. Gladwell asserts that success comes from factors and advantages that are mostly overlooked such as birth dates and cultural backgrounds; however, his ideas are loosely based, overly generalized, and unreliable. Now, with technology advancing at the same rate as society matures and changes, success is a concept that can be different to many different groups of people. Gladwell insists that success is formulated through a series of hidden advantages and cultural legacies that are fixed, therefore that s why many do not become successful. I simply do not feel that is the case. Success is achieved through ambition and hard work that is instilled in you. Anyone has the power to take matters into their own hands and create their own success. Gladwell used many anecdotes and stories to push his hypotheses. An example would be the two chapters titled The Trouble with Geniuses Part One and The Trouble With Geniuses Part Two . In these chapters, Gladwell introduces Chris Langan, a man with an IQ higher
  • 32. Theme Of Guilt In The Seventh Man Survivor guilt is when someone feels guilty for surviving a traumatic event when somebody else didn t. The story The Seventh Man was told by a narrator whose friend was killed by a wave from a tsunami. The narrator was at the beach with his friend K, during the eye of a tsunami when all of a sudden, the waves resume. The narrator attempts to get K s attention, but he fails to do so. The fear begins to take over when he starts running to safety, K unfortunately didn t realize the wave until it was too late and he was engulfed. Ever since that day, the narrator has lived his whole life blaming himself for the death of his friend K.. If the narrator would have tried any harder to save K he would have died as well, which is why he should forgive himself for his failure in doing so. Guilt can change people in many different and extreme ways, which makes sense, but on the other hand doesn t if you never did anything wrong. Guilt takes a huge toll on the narrator of The Seventh Man, to the point that he has to give up many things he loves. I had always enjoyed swimming, but after that day I never even went in a swimming pool. I wouldn t go near deep rivers or lakes. I avoided boats and wouldn t take a plane to go abroad (Murakami 141). It seems strange for the narrator to act this way when he didn t do anything, there wasn t anything he could ve done differently so that K would be alive. That s why he should forgive himself so that way he wouldn t have had to give up the things he loves, his life could have been happier, more fulfilling, and definitely a lot happier. As soon as he noticed that the storm was reappearing he alerted his friend, but knew that K. was unable to hear him, which is one of the reasons K. didn t survive, some say that the narrator shouldn t forgive himself for that reason. Saying something and doing something are different things, some might say that just saying something doesn t accomplish anything without actually doing something, which is why some might argue that the narrator should feel bad for what happened to K. Sometimes when you do something it can be the case of someone to get hurt. Captain Prior had cleared vehicles to be sent out, the ones that killed Privet Meyke in freak

When the VM instances are deployed, they are provide with request specific CPU, RAM, and disk capacity. VMs are employed on physical machines (PMs) each of which may be shared by multiple VMs. To minimize overall VM provisioning delays and operational costs, we assume that the PMs are grouped into three pools; hot (running), warm (turned on, but not ready) and cold (turned off). Maintaining the PMs in three pools (in general, multiple tiered pools) helps to minimize power and cooling costs without incurring high startup delays for all VMs. A pre instantiated VM can be readily provisioned and brought to ready state on a running PM (hot PM) with minimum provisioning delay. He did this so he didn t have to manage all of his armies /colonies at once, and could therefore manage his main army on all of his conquests. As far as political and civil liberties were concerned, Napoleon largely suppressed them with strict censorship and the establishment of a virtual police state in order to protect his power. This baked good is a common choice when studying albumens quality (Sauter Montoure, 1975). The proteins in albumen which will give angel food cake its desired consistency are ovalbumin and globulins (Abu Ghoush et al. 2010). According to Mleko et al. (2010), the foaming properties of the albumen is key to preparing angel food cake. If the whites are over foamed, the cake will not expand, if not foamed enough, the cake will not posses the desired textural properties (Mleko et al. 2010). The goal of this experiment was to observe the properties of eggs, namely the whites, in an angel food cake. 2. Although this global supply chain and the flattening of the world is raising the standards of living of the people in developing nations, one must contemplate what is also being stripped away from these people in return for the increase in wealth. While assimilating to the customs and values of the western world might seem necessary for these countries to be able to work together and communicate, this assimilation affects individual identity as well as national identity. The assimilationrequired by global supply chains strips countries, such as India, of their cultural heritage and requires workers to Westernize and cover their true identities in order to work in the jobs that will raise their standard of living. Therefore, despite the positive economic effects that assimilation has on developing countries, the negative effects on culture and individuals the stripping away of identity and self are points often overlooked and are damaging to the countries and individuals that are stuck in limbo in between identities. When assimilation plays in conjunction with The Dell Theory, it becomes a positive arrangement because countries involved with the global supply chain are more hesitant to go to war with each other. The countries in the supply chain are obligated to come to mutual understandings, in which they cooperate with each other, regardless of their differences; otherwise, they risk losing their position in the supply chain.
