My Paper On Lee Harvey Oswald
Based on my research, I would like to dedicate my paper to Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald was born
on October 18, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana. His dad died of a heart attack and later sent to
an orphanage to live with his two older brothers. He was a United States Marine, who later in his
life killed John F. Kennedy. He was murdered by Jack Ruby while he was in police custody and
being taken to County Jail. Lee Harvey Oswald had also tried to kill right wing ex general
Edwin A. Walker but he missed. He then moved to New Orleans for a couple of months, then
moved back to the states. Before the killing had happened, he got a job at the Texas school as a
Book Depository in Dallas. Where he attended the shooting of President Kennedy. He was
mostly known because of the killing of John F. Kennedy. No one could find out why Lee H.
Oswald assassinated John F. Kennedy. Based on some interview his families and friends went
through, they all said that Lee praised President John F. Kennedy. Michael Paine, one of Lee s
friends, who took Lee to a meeting of the American Civil Liberties Union, says Oswald thought
President Kennedy was doing quite a good job in civil rights, which was high praise coming
from Lee. A Warren Commissioners, Senator Richard Russell say he was a general misanthropic
fellow ... he had a desire to get his name in history and all. As I surf through the web, I realize
there was no evidence that said that Lee wanted such thing. He even denied that he was part

Truman Examined Life
In the film, The truman show, Socrates states that The unexamined life is not worth living ; what
Socrates is trying to say is that if people do not question things, question life, and everyday things
and just go through life not questioning things and just going with what everybody says and not
living life. then it is not worth living. (Truman) was nothing real? (Christof) you were real. That s
what made you so good to watch. There is no more truth out there then there is in the world I
created for you. The same lies, the same deceit. But in my world, you have nothing to fear. Truman
is now questioning the people around him, questioning every day things, and is questioning life in
general. Truman is now starting to examined life. which

The Pros And Cons Of Skepticism
The most basic claim of skepticism, it seems to me, usually involves a version of the classic
Cartesian Evil Demon Scenario (EDS). I believe that EDS should be redefined before we start an
extensive discussion thereof: EDS is generally a scenario, involving an attitude towards the reality
we live in (it includes both an ontological and epistemic shift in our thinking), involving questioning
the basic assumption that what we perceive in that reality is not (directly) caused by the objects
(phenomena et cetera), but is caused by an indirect entity (such as an Evil Demon or an Evil
Scientist simulating the experience you seem to have). Even though this is the principle skepticism
is based on, to me, it is also its weakest point. In this paper, I will, first, try to reconstruct some of
the common skeptic approaches and then attempt to show how skeptic arguments and scenarios can
be dissolved (not refuted, since trying to refute a skeptic argument causes one to fall into the same
trap as the skeptic does).
The foremost example of an EDS was presented by Descartes in his Meditation I. It proceeds in
phases, which I will not talk in detail, but summarize in a concise way: Descartes first observes the
objects, phenomena around him; then he concedes that he cannot tell the difference between
waking and dreaming, that he had the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These arguments follow premises that cannot be testified by observable data, neither do they
provide any analytical, a priori arguments, which can be deduced from other a priori propositions.
Even though I reject an epistemic discussion which involves any sort of EDS, from a meta
epistemological perspective, this paper summarizes my beliefs pretty well and I also believe that
those who find themselves in a situation where they have to argue against these types of arguments
can benefit from some of the thoughts I laid out in this

Deportation Analysis
According to the Pew Research Center (2014), in 2013 the Obama Administration deported a total
of 438,421 unauthorized immigrants (Gonzalez Barrera Krogstad, 2014). These deportations were
expounded upon certain races and unauthorized immigrants of specific ethnic background. More
and more Americans want stricter immigrationlaws and fewer outsiders who are not native born out
of the United states. By ensuing prejudice throughout the nation, deportation is as form of
discrimination.
Deportation, like discrimination, excludes people of a specific race, religion, or ethnic background.
Deportation categorizes the immigrant via visa status, with ethnicity, race or religion. Patrick
Simon (2013), International Migration and Minorities Expert, states,
Direct discrimination occurs if a person or a group is treated unfavorably because of their
immigrant background. The second refers to a situation where formally equal treatment has, or is
likely to have, the effect of disadvantaging immigrants, and that cannot be justified on ... Show

Immigrants do not hold the same amount of freedoms that naturalized citizens and natives to
America, since their rights can be taken away, just as David Cole (2010), Professor of Law at
Georgetown University, mentions a groundbreaking case in his publication, Are Foreign
Nationals Entitled to the Same Constitutional Rights as Citizens? (Cole, 2010). Cole (2010)
states the perspective foreigners shouldn t be allowed the same rights were backed in April 2003
after the supreme court case of Demore V. Kim (Cole, 2010; p 368). It was proved through judicial
restraint of a 1996 mandatory detention of deportable immigrants who have been convicted of
crimes (Cole, 2010; p 368). This court case basically found that immigrants, not being naturalized,
can be detained because they will not have the same rights until granted

Pullman Strike Essay
The Pullman Strike was a disturbing event in Illinois history. It occurred because of the way George
Mortimer Pullman, founder and president of the Pullman Palace Car Company, treated his workers.
Organized in 1867, the company manufactured sleeping cars and operated them under contract to
the railroads
The Pullman Palace Car Company, a manufacturer of railroad cars cut the already low wages of
its workers by about 25 percent, but didn t introduce corresponding reductions in rents and other
charges at Pullman s company town near Chicago, where most Pullman workers lived. In result of
this many worked and their families faced starvation. A large section of workers tried to present
their problems about low wages, poor living conditions, and ... Show more content on

Although the ARU was not technically involved in the Pullman workers decision to strike, union
officials had been in Pullman and at the meeting at which the strike vote was taken, and Pullman
workers undoubtedly believed that the ARU would back them. A great deal of sympathy existed in
Chicago and elsewhere for the Pullman workers, who were seen as common men and women
tyrannized by an abusive employer and landlord. One plan was to refuse to hitch Pullman cars to
trains and to unhitch those that were already attached. Another idea was a boycott: ARU members
would refuse to handle Pullman cars or any trains with Pullman cars until the railroads severed their
ties with the Pullman Company. ARU members would refuse to handle Pullman cars or any trains
with Pullman cars until the railroads severed their ties with the Pullman Company. As any success
for a boycott would be the Switchmen who had joined the ARU in large numbers. The ARU s
president, Eugene V. Debs, predicted that, once the switchmen refused to add or remove Pullman
cars from trains, the railroads would fire them and try to replace them with nonunion workers, and
that in turn would lead other union members to walk out in solidarity, thus bringing more and more

Lupe Fiasco’s Modern Voice Essay
History has constantly brought upon leaders and individuals who stands up against the corrupt
society he and many others face. Those leaders express their profound thoughts for both him and
the many others that are too afraid to speak out. One of the most notorious writers in American
history and is known for his transcendental ideals. However, today s society lacks individuals who
parallels with Whitman. Lupe Fiascorepresents the Modern American voice speaking out against
the degrading world society and does so by influencing the public through their appeal of music.
He rejects and contrasts from the negative influences of the world and uses his music to contradict
those who degrade our society. Born in the west side of Chicago... Show more content on

In the song, Fiasco portrays the manipulation that many are often affected by. He suggests that
others should, like him, ignore what others think and act purely on what you believe. Fiasco uses
the analogy of slaves to describe the similar effects of losing one s individuality. The experiences
one would face if he/she succumbs into the negative influences of others would be similar to that
of African American slaves. Because of human nature, jealousy exists amongst every individual
and by allowing others to control aspects of your life, he/she will be able harm those dependent
variables of one s life. Similarly, Whitman states that one should freely ...give alms to everyone that
asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue
not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing
known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons
and with the young and with the mothers of families... (Leaves of Summer, Preface) Whitman
again describes the idea of individualism. People fear of the higher power and often let that fear
consume them, eventually eliminating the individual s ability to act freely. He implies that people
should ignore those circumstances and without

Comparing Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt Essay
Comparing Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt
During the 20th century many different presidents went in and out of the doors of the White House
serving the country the best they could. However, two of these men hold a place in American
history as perhaps the greatest leaders that had ever served our country. Theodore Rooseveltand
Woodrow Wilson are two extraordinary men that symbolize the hope and aspirations of the
American people during such a tumultuous time in United States history. Both of these men held
leadership qualities like no other, had strong views for America, and held exceptional ideas on
foreign policy.

His authoritative figure saved Americans from freezing when 250,000 of Carnegie s coal

To hell with the constitution, America needs heat. Also, TR was an imperialist and a realist. He
is most characterized by his aggression. This to him meant growth. He was a man of conquest
and won power through constant attack. Secondly, President Roosevelt was known for his
personal righteousness. Everything he did was what he perceived as justice. He was a strong,
clean living, and industrious man. Third, Teddy Roosevelt had a strong sense of pride. He was
the first American president who was not British and was very proud of his diversity. Lastly,
Roosevelt was known for being militaristic. He regrets he never had a big war. He thought that
war was proof of manhood. He built the US navy to 2nd largest in the world when it had
previously been the 5th largest. TR loved his job and the American people loved him for being so
good at it. During his term he would reform domestically and reform capitalists. He also opened up
the famous Yellowstone National Park. Although TR would have easily been elected for a third
term, he knew that too much power could corrupt a man and that it wouldn t be good

Religion Position Paper
There are several reasons why I have the religious affiliation that I do. My membership, unlike
that of so many, has very little to do with the choices my friends and family have made. My
decision was based on reason and personal experiences. While some may say that these things are
both easily influenced by parents and peers, in my case I have parents of different faith and
therefore have less direct influence from them. When I was very young I was made aware of the
need to research religion. The problem with this is that as a child my comprehension and
knowledge were both very limited. Still I knew that I needed to figure out what was right for me.
The easiest place to start for me was the Bible, since such a large number of... Show more content

One example of this is First James chapter three verses eighteen and nineteen. These verses cover
some very deep doctrine which most people choose to discard, but I believe that if it s in the
Bible it s here for a reason. These verses read, For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just
for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by
the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; In this verse they
answer a very important question, what happens to those who never have a chance to know and
accept God into their lives. In this verse it explains to us that after death Christ went a preached
to others which were dead. This gives them the opportunity to know of Him, and to either
accepted or reject Him just as we have chosen. Now if we take this information and add it to
another often discarded scripture we find something even more interesting. First Corinthians
chapter fifteen verse twenty nine reads, Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead,
if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? Here we learn that the
Corinthians were doing some sort of baptisms for the dead. What this means is that those who
learn of God after death not only have the opportunity to learn of him, but also to have the sacred
ordinances which are necessary for salvation preformed on their behalf. Now away from all of the
factual evidence I would have

What Is My Favorite Burger Essay
Being the son of a baker, I am constantly trying new foods and recipes. I have had anything from

things that I eat, I dislike very much. Other things I try, I have second and even third

This is why my favorite sandwich is a twist on the true American favorite, the burger. I want you to
know why this burger is the very best there is. The first thingyou need for the perfect burger is a

This burger is no exception. The burger must also be topped with a scrumptious smoked ham
and delicious bacon. Both of these should be hot when put on the burger. The ham, since it is
smoked, does not need extensive heating which may ruin the beautiful pink color of ham. The
bacon itself should be cooked in a very specific and delicate way. It must be cooked to the point
where it is no longer flimsy, so which would render it chewy, but not overly crunchy which would
render it nearly unedible. For extra flavor, cook both of them in the same place you cooked the
burger without removing the burger grease. The next part of the burger is one of the most essential
and the easiest part. What you need is a little bit of a smooth, white swiss cheese. However, unlike
what many people like to do you should try to refrain from buying the cheapest cheese you can.
When it comes to cheese, the higher priced cheese is more expensive for a reason, and it s the
way to go. When the cheese is set between the slice of ham and the burger, you want it to melt so it
holds the two together, which is something you are not likely to get with a cheaper

My Goals For A Social Worker
I did not always want to be a Social Worker. I wanted to be a psychologist when I graduated high
school. My dreams for my career got put on hold because I became a single mother at a young
age. Raising my child on my own was the hardest and most important thing to me. It was not until
the Department of Children and Families (DCF) came and removed my niece from my sister s
home, when I realized what Social Workwas. At that moment, I knew I wanted to help children the
same way the social workers do.
My educational career started when I was laid off from my job 5 years ago. Part of the
severance package that I received made it possible for me to collect unemployment until I
finished my degree. I earned my A.S. degree in Human Services, and am currently working on
obtaining my B.S. in Social Work, all while being a stay at home mom to a teenager. I have made
the Dean s List for the past few semesters and would like the opportunity to help others with all the
services that are available for the clients that are in need.
Social Work, as a profession, is a great fit for me. My interest in social work originates from
having the desire to be able to help children that are abused and neglected to find better homes
and safe environments. Helping foster children find loving families, so they can be loved and
happy too. I enjoy helping and making a difference in the lives of others. I have been so close to
being homeless it scared me so much. Helping the homeless, homeless veterans,

The Pros And Cons Of Vaccines For Animals
Administering vaccines to companion animals is a common practice intended to prevent the
contraction of specific diseases by our pets. Like in humans, animals can be protected from
illness by staying up to date on their vaccinations, which can range from once every six months
to once every three years if kept current. However, there are those who choose not to vaccinate
their pets and do not believe that vaccines are effective or safe. Is this mindset acceptable, or can
it be considered dangerous? Is it necessary to vaccinate our pets? Are there risks to getting regular
vaccines, and if so, what are they? A vaccineis, by definition, a preparation of killed
microorganisms, living attenuated organisms, or living fully virulent organisms that is
administered to produce or artificially increase immunity to a particular disease (Merriam
Webster, n.d.). In other words, living or killed viruses or bacteria are injected into the body and
used to create antibodies for diseases caused by those viruses or bacteria. For example, the disease
leptospirosis is caused by coming into contact with Leptospira bacteria through ingestion, being
bitten by an infected animal, or having an open wound or mucous membrane that can allow the
bacteria to enter the body. It is also a zoonotic disease, meaning that humans can contract it from
their dogs, although this is uncommon (AVMA, n.d.). However, getting a yearly leptospirosis
vaccine can help protect dogs from getting infected by the bacteria

Ewing s Sarcoma Case Study
Ewing s sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that grows in the bones. It is usually found in longer
bones of the arms or legs. The thigh bone (femur) is the bone most often affected, followed by the
bones of the pelvis, lower leg, upper arm (humerus) and chest.
It is the second most common type of cancer found in children. Ewing s sarcoma typically occurs in
people between 10 and 20 years old. However, it can occur at any age.
CAUSES
No one knows exactly what causes Ewing s sarcoma. Certain changes in genes seem to cause this
cancer; but what causes those changes is not known. The cancer occurs in white males more than
any other group of people.
Other possible causes include:
Injury or damage to the bone.
Radiation from an earlier cancer treatment.
SYMPTOMS
The major signs and symptoms of Ewing s Sarcoma are:
Fever with no cause.
Bones that break too easily.
Weight loss.
No desire to eat.

Ewing s sarcoma is diagnosed through a variety of tests:
An X ray may show where the tumor is located.
A bone scan may show whether other bones are affected.
A bone marrow sample helps find signs of cancer that could be affecting blood production.
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a diagnostic test that uses large magnets, radio frequencies,
and a computer to make images of organs and structures within the body. This test outlines the
extent of the tumor within the bone and joint and the relationship of the tumor to the muscles,
nerves and blood vessels.

Education and Dramatic Transformations:
In recent decades the family institution has undergone a dramatic transformation focusing on
increased divorce rates, cohabitation rates, and the number of children raised in step and single
marital families (Amato, 2000; Bumpass Lu, 2000; Graefe Lichter, 1999). Due to the increase of
divorce rates children move more frequently and deal with additional family transitions throughout
their childhood (Brown, 2006). As these changes slowly increase, about 40% of kids who are born
to wedded, two biological parent families have a higher chance of parental divorce prior to

family disruptions and transitions as parents decide to remarry and progress with new partners. The
family atmospheres during these times are incredibly detrimental to the growth and development of
these children (Sun Li, 2009). Research studies show that parental divorce can compromise
educational success for their children. Children in two parent families have noticeably higher test
scores than children who are in single parent families and also had lower chances of graduating
from high school (Sun Li, 2001). One of the rationalizations for the academic difficulty in divorced

Angel Pottery Case Paper
Angel Pottery has primarily focused on producing serving bowls and sugar bowls for customers.
The company is eager to launch a new product which will be mugs. This new product was selected
largely due to customer interest for this type of product. The goal is to produce 25 mugs per week.
The estimated cycle time of each product is twenty one days from beginning of production to
distribution to customer.
Focusing on the production of five mugs per shift and running one shift per day during a five day
work week might result in a bottleneck during the firing phase of production. This could happen
because the potter can produce more mugs per week than can be fired in one kiln firing. The kiln
can hold three shelves of four mugs for a total of twelve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Vorne, The Theory of Constraints is a methodology for identifying the most important
limiting factor (i.e. constraint) that stands in the way of achieving a goal and then systematically
improving that constraint until it is no longer the limiting factor. In manufacturing, the constraint is
often referred to as a bottleneck (2016). As the WIP collects on inventory shelves, there is greater
evidence that the kiln firing process is a bottleneck for production. This constraint in the process
could be alleviated by adding an additional kiln to the firm. Anjoran stated, One way to reduce the
impact of bottlenecks is to Adding capacity by increasing resources (men, machines...) this is often
done best with inexpensive, low tech, low complexity equipment that will be down less often than a
complex, high tech solution
(2016). In the case of Angel Pottery, the purchase of a second kiln (low tech resource) could help to
alleviate the bottleneck that exists due to limited space kiln space. Lean management could be
applied to increase productivity and improve cycle times. With the constraint of firing space
alleviated by capital expenditure on a second kiln, pull from the customer or demand will drive
production. This Kanban will help to orchestrate when and how much inventory should be

Impact Of Digital Media On Cinema
It is obvious that technological convergence leads to the changes in media production and
distribution (Bolin 2007; Tryon 2009; Dixon Foster 2011). These changes can be observed
through the ways films are promoted and exhibited have also been affected by the use of digital
media. The following sections will provide a detail analysis of these changes.
Tryon (2009) examines the transformation of cinema to the digital form. The proliferation of new
portable technologies sparked the debates about the changes in the film industry. On the one hand,
there are concerns that digital media and home entertainment systems threaten the future of cinema,
as they provide viewers more choices and flexibility in watching movies. On the other hand, media

The first thing to consider is the formats of movies. Digital formats have gradually replaced the
film for many reasons: space efficient, inexpensive, immediate and unlimited (Pavlik McIntosh
2014, pp. 223 224). This is because physical films not only cost more but are also inconvenient to
print, deliver and preserve. Meanwhile, the transfer of data by using digital tools is extremely
fast and easy, whether through a computer or via satellite. For example, traditional types of film
reels, such as the 35mm or 70mm, have given place for high capacity hard drives (Dixon Foster
2011, p. 22). Pavlik McIntosh (2014) also emphasize that while the digital data still need to be
kept in a physical storage, it is still far more space saving than that needed by an analog form.
Furthermore, it is totally free to duplicate the digital movies and send them to distributors.
The movie industry, along with other mass media industries, has become more democratized and
fragmented due to the use of digital technology. While the market is still dominated by a few
giants, there are more spaces for smaller players. Retailers like Netflix or Amazon have paved the
way for niche products to be consumed. This is what academics refer to as the long tail, which is
the main focus of Chris Anderson s 2006 book. According to Anderson, our culture has long been
obsessed with a small number of hits popular contents made by powerful companies.

Fish Industry In Louisiana
The two of the biggest commodities in Louisiana are the fish industry, and the oil industry. As
the oil industry began to grow, BP s power started to grow in Louisiana. This provided jobs for
Louisiana residents and put food on the table. BP started by drilling in about twelve feet of
water, but as technology grew they pushed out to deeper depths. By the 1970s, BP was one of
the top oil companies in the area, taking the biggest risks by drilling the deepest. By taking this
risk, it produced massive profits for BP. It also produced the worst safety records from an oil
company ever recorded. Over the years, BP s safety record results became worse. Furthermore, BP

Differences Between Hip Hop And Pop Hop
Discuss notions of authenticity in relation to either: a) Hip Hop (and/or its sub genres). How
have race, class and gender been redefined with regards to keeping it real ? You should refer to
academic texts such as Jones, Steve (2002) Pop Music the Press. Temple Uni. Press The notion
of the authenticity in hip hop is that it has to do with being associated to the street or the urban

in Hip Hop insisting individuals to be true to their roots, and not to front or make believe
something they are not (Rickford and Rickford 2000: 23). Hip Hop is apparently a multiracial and
multicultural movement, yet its roots and artistic strength and most of its well known rap artists,
come primarily from urban African American communities (Blake 1993). In 1999, it was dubbed
the most important musical genre in America by the New York Times (Strauss 1999: 28), and has
debatably been one of the foremost youth cultures in the United States since the early 1990s.
Despite the multi ethnic nature of the founding community of hip hop, young African American

African Americans in articulations of authentic, hip hop has roots that are more diasporic than
popularity professed. Hip hop

The Flea, By Andrew Marvell
John Donne s, The Flea, and Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress are persuasive poem in
which the speaker is attempting to establish a sexual union with his significant other. These poems
is spoken by a male lover to his female beloved as an attempt to convince her to sleep with him.
John Donne and Marvell brings out and shapes this meaning through his collective use of conceit,
rhythm, and rhyme scheme. The basic theme of the poems is the speaker s need to turn his coy
mistress into a willing mistress .
Donne uses the flea as a conceit, to represent a sexual union with his significant other. Marvell

that if they had more time and space that her coyness wouldn t be a crime. He says this, Had we

in To His Coy Mistress the man is not trying to marry the

With Malice Toward None Essay In the history of the United States of America many men have

Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George
Washington helped give birth to our nation by successfully guiding us through a revolution and our
country s infancy. Franklin D Roosevelt led the nation through a war on two fronts eventually
defeating the Axis powers of Nazi Germany and Japan. The list could go on and on about legendary
men that made important contributions to the United Statesof America, however one man that seems

Lincoln. This man guided a nation through a Civil War that saw six hundred and twenty thousand
people die. Signed the Emancipation Proclamation declaring that all persons held as slaves
within the rebellious states are, and henceforward shall be free. And gave one of the most famous
speeches in American history with is Gettysburg Address. The amount of things Lincoln

The Upstream And Downstream Of Seeing By Annie Dillard
The Upstream and Downstream of Seeing Annie Dillard s Seeing discusses the two possible
ways to properly see things and relates them to light versus darkness in nature, and upstream
versus downstream of a river. The essay explains that there are two ways to see things in the
world; to look for something specific, or to let go of that desire to see something. Both types of
seeing are also combined with either brightness or darkness and with either upstream or
downstream. Dillard has trouble seeing anything in the upstream of the river because that part of
the river is always dark or cloudy. On the other hand, she can see the animals in the downstream of
the river, where everything is bright and lively. The river is split in two different symbols which
help show the best way that one should view nature. The downstream and the upstream of the river
have unique characteristics, and Dillard also compares them to darkness and light. By using
powerful imagery and diction, Dillard is able to compare the two types of seeing and explain
why letting go of the desire to see is the best way to look at things. Dillard s powerful imagery
throughout the essay is crucial for understanding the differences in seeing. For example, she is
able to describe something as broad as nature by using a simile such as, nature is like one of those
line drawings of a tree that are puzzles for children (19). Since Dillard writes with such a loose
structure, the imagery that she

The Life of Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson was born Friday March 15, 1767. He was raised in Waxhaw, North Carolina.
His parents had three children, him, Hugh, and Robert. Before he was born they and his parents
emigrated from Ireland almost two years before he was born. He was named after his father that
had died before he was born.
He was raised by his mother in which was a widower. She raised him on a settlement near the
North and South Carolina border. He had a large family of Irish immigrant farmers. His mother
wanted him to become a minister but he went in a completely different direction at a young age.
Young Andrew began to cuss, fight, and even pull pranks on different people in the town.
The American Revolutionary War was now all around him and his two brothers. The effect it had
on his life was devastating. He and his brothers joined the war to fight for the cause. Jackson was
only thirteen years old. His brother Hugh soon died of heat stroke in Battle of Stono Ferry in 1779.

In the ninth century, Vikings began to raid Ireland, eventually conquering and settling on the
island. The strong Irish culture influenced the Viking conquerors way of life, rather than an
invader s long term domination would suggest. Anglo Norman invaders arrived in Ireland in
1169, attempting to colonize the island over the next 500 years. The invaders began to expand
their influence across the island by means of force. These attacks caused rebellions from the Irish
people, as they were no strangers to aggression from the East. Religious persecution of Catholic
Irish grew in particular after the accession of Elizabeth I, a Protestant, to the throne in 1558. Oliver
Cromwell s subsequent siege of Ireland in 1649 ended with massacres of Catholics at Drogheda and
Wexford and forced the resettlement of thousands, many of whom lost their homes in the struggle.
By 1691, with the victory of Protestant English King William III over the Catholic forces of James
II, Protestant supremacy in Ireland had become complete. Catholics in Ireland suffered greatly in
the subsequent period of British occupation, enduring laws that prevented them from bearing arms,
holding public office and restricting their rights to an education. While many of those rights were
eventually restored, the animosity between Catholics and Protestants remained. (Washington Post,
1999). A group of Irish

The Panda Bear Or Giant Panda
The panda bear or giant panda is located in the south central area of China. It is recognized for
its appearance. It belongs to the Carnivore group even though it eats 99% bamboo. Pandas found
in the wild will eat other grasses, wild tubers, or meat in the form of birds, rodents, or carrion.
Pandas in captivity receive honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, bananas, or other
specially prepared foods. Pandas live in mountain ranges because deforestation has driven them
from lowland areas. The panda is an endangered species. According to a 2007 report, there are
239 pandas living in captivity in China, 27 pandas living outside the country, and 1,590 pandas
living in the wild. The panda bear is a great symbol in China. This animal is noticed because it is
on the endangered species list.
The red panda, though it shares the name of panda, is not a bear. It is more closely related to a
raccoon or skunk and is an endangered species. This panda is called the red panda, lesser panda, or
red cat bear. This animal is not closely related to the giant panda or panda bear. This is an animal
that is adorable and cuddly looking but it also is so much larger than it appears.
Cultural Symbolism:

The Tale Of Fairy Tales Essay
Fairy tales have been told throughout time ever since gathering of people there s been demand
for telling stories to an audience. What started out as oral tales eventually evolved into written
fairy tales. People now began to write stories for the young children that would teach them
important life lessons that would be of major importance to them in the years to come. These
lessons that were introduced into fairytales played an important role in the development of their
unshaped minds because these tales would make it easier from to transition children into
adolescence, and eventually into adults. However, as these fairy tales evolved from being oral
to written society also evolved alongside with it. Society become became more advanced and
sophisticated that the lessons that once had great meaning in a way became obsolete. In many
instances the lessons that were preached in the tales degraded the roles of women by reducing
to an object of marriage. It s important to remember that fairytales were not intend to be seen as
negative, in fact they originated as a means of good but the evolution of society and ever so
changing mindset of people has caused people to look at these fairytales in a new scope. In
doing so it was determined that fairy tales were no longer as good at teaching life lesson as they
once were. In order to make fairytales into what they once were there needs to another evolution of

The Effect of World War I on Civilians Essay
The Effect of World War I on Civilians
World War one was a military conflict which took place between 1914 and 1918. It involved many
European countries as well as America and other countries around the world. This war was one of
the most violent and destructive in European history.
World War Iwas the first total war. Once the war began, the countries involved mobilized their
entire populations and economic resources to achieve victory on the battlefield. The term home
front, which was widely employed for the first time during World War I, perfectly symbolized this
new concept of a war in which the civilian population behind the lines was directly and critically

Not everyone welcomed conscription though. Fifty MP s voted against the introduction of
conscription in parliament. Also those who opposed the war due to religious of political reasons
were also against conscription. It would be against their will to fight so they were named

for not wanting to fight and weren t just scared.
Also, in 1914 the government passed the Defence Of the Realm Act (DORA). It gave the
government massive powers to control many aspects of people s daily lives, this included being
able to seize any land or buildings, to control newspapers and the media and to take over any
industries which were important to the war effort. Immediately after introducing DORA the
government took over the coal mining industry so that the money was going towards the war rather
than private owners.
In 1915, the government faced its first major problem of the war there was a shortage of
munitions. The munitions crisis as it was known as became a national scandal exposed by the
Daily Mail. Due to this crisis a coalition government was formed to work together to support the
war effort. This coalition included MP s from different parties. Under DORA,

Women s Struggle And Power
Throughout centuries, women were only considered to be chattel of the supreme male beings.
They received no accountability for their heroic actions, the gift of bearing children or raising
them in the infinite family line. Women s efforts and power to act, remained unnoticed by
society. It is only during a time of massacre and atrocious murder, that oblivion had crushed
reality and the warped perspective of a women s incapability s. The belief that a female could not
perform a function adequately was quickly demolished along with the idea of superior male
soldiers that victoriously lost their lives in battle. The First World War impacted the lives of all
women in Canadaby gaining partial equality to men, the right to vote and a remarkable spread of
female independence. Firstly, women worked to authenticate that men were not inferior to them,
either through occupations, education or skill, in order to gain the equality they willingly
challenged. The hardships of the First World War, had affected the country and its economical
standing with the departure of male soldiers overseas and the limited resources available to the
population left behind. Women had bravely taken the opportunity to replace their husbands, fathers
and sons, to aid the war effort or simply for the adventure. Over 30,000 women were employed in
ammunition factories, civil services or overseas as ambulance drivers and motor transport

Tom Stoppard and the Crime-Writing Genre
Mankind has perpetually maintained a fascination with what constitutes a crime and enjoyed
piecing together the clues that authors of the crime genre provide us in solving their mysteries, thus
appealing to our curiosity in the darker side of our humanity. The crime writing genre embodies
humankind in its fullest, revealing our potential for both good and evil, a notion that is responsible
for the genres cross contextual survival and universal appeal. It is due to this undying interest that
writers of crime texts have the ability to subvert conventions and thereby deconstruct the
philosophical and psychological assumptions that crime fiction is constructed upon. By subverting
the conventions of the crime writing genre, composers are able to more freely explore issues
concerning their respective contexts, a significant factor that has contributed to the genre s
endurance. Tom Stoppard s play The Real Inspector Hound is a post modern text which utilises its
absurdist nature to reflect the nihilistic philosophy of crime. The text simultaneously adheres to and
discards the conventions of the crime genre through its employment of parody and its satirical
characteristics.
Tom Stoppard s The Real Inspector Hound , first performed in 1968, is a one act play and dual
satire of Agatha Christie s conventional Golden Age, cosy locked room mystery The Mousetrap and
the crime writing genre itself. Though the setting of the action is in a theatre, the play within a play

Power Of Female Power In Shakespeare s Othello
Power of female characters in Othello In Shakespeare s time, women didn t have as much
freedom as they do now. Instead, it was a time that they ought to behave in a certain way in
response to their family s honour under a strict social hierarchy and rules. However, Shakespeare
gave three women power in Othello. Desdemona, Emilia, and Bianca, although they are from
different social classes, are able to use their power to successfully resist male authority. Othello
begins in middle of an argument between Roderigo and Iago. Desdemona and Othello s wedding is
the main topic of their argument. Desdemona is a Venetian beauty who is treated as a possession
of her father, Brabantio, but by marrying an outsider Othello, she goes against the tradition of
venetian custom which she is expected to marry a rich man to maintain her family s honour. Iago
reports Brabantio that his daughter is being stolen by Othello. Awake! What ho, Brabantio!
Thieves, thieves! (1.1. 76). This quote depicts how unmarried women were treated back in 16 s
century. However, while everyone in the play thinks that Othello has stolen Desdemona to marry
him, Desdemona speaks herself to prove that she truly loves Othello. That I love the Moor to love
with him (1.3. 246). Also, she even asks for her permission to go to Cyprus with Othello because
she can t stand the thought of remaining at home, which doesn t have any adventure. There is a

According to Maxwell and Knox (2009), academics and practitioners have extolled the potential
benefits of having a well managed cooperate brand. They have also acknowledged that corporate
branding brings new challenges that cannot be readily addressed within a traditional marketing
framework, including a need to ensure that employee behavior is consistently aligned with the
company s brand promise, but previous research has tended to focus on issues related to
recruitment. As a result, little is known about how employer branding can actually be used to
support the corporate brand. More specifically, researchers have yet to explain what makes an
organization s employer brand attractive to current employees (Maxwell Knox, 2009).
More specifically, theorists argue that a corporate brand should be closely aligned with the identity
of the organization. Corporate brand communications may include symbolism and conventional
communications such as advertising and PR. However, corporate branding also involves multiple
stakeholders interacting with numerous staff in multiple departments across an organization it
provides external stakeholders with information about the identity of the organization and if this

Globalization And Corruption
The Corruption is the abuse of power for private interests. The corruption undermines economic
growth, impacts political stability, and causes a security issue to the state. In addition, corruption
contributes to weaken the government legitimacy and undermines the functioning of government,
which has an impact on security interests. Vaclav Havel stated that, fighting corruption is fighting
terrorism. Corruption fuels terrorism, and has an impact on society. For instance, In India, the
authorities arrested Abu Bakar Bashir who is one of the Jemaah Islamiyah founder. Bashir could
preach inside the jail because in India it is simple to bribe the law enforcement officers. The
influence on other prisoners of the jihadists, including the likes Bashir who was allowed to preach
when he spent time in jail over the 2002 Bali bombings, is also often discounted by the prison
authorities (Salna, 2011).

have matured from the experience: The daily life of growing up with juvenile Arthritis. Juvenile
arthritis, otherwise referred to as pediatric rheumatic disease, is a blanket term to describe many
different inflammatory and autoimmune conditions that cause joint pain and swelling. Chronic
pain, such as this, can dramatically affect the way a child develops. As a child, I had began to

Corporate Crime Is A Victimless Crime
Corporate Crime The question before our society is not whether corporate crime is a victimless
crime, rather the question is what should be done about it? Corporate crime doesn t just do harm
to the investors that can be unknowingly damaged by these crimes, it has a much more insidious
nature to it as it has done harm on global scales. Corporate crimeis almost a misnomer because many
of these criminal wrongdoings are for the most part legal, when not taken to their ultimate
conclusion. Society within the United Stateshas been taught that the man in the brief case, yelling
at other men in dark coats on the flow of the stock exchange are the smartest guys in the room.
This paper will attack that idea on many levels, the first salvo will be

Frankenstein Vensor Frankenstein And The Modern Prometheus...
Titan or Theif In Greek Mythology, there is a tale where a Titan named Prometheus stole fire from
the gods and put it in the clay to make man. Like in the Greek Mythology, Mary Shelley has Victor
Frankenstein steal life from nature. As Mary Shelley states in the title of her book Frankenstein, or
the Modern Prometheus, she parallels Victor Frankensteinto the Titan Prometheus. As Mary Shelley
states in Frankenstein the pursuit of unknown knowledge is dangerous. So much has been done... I
will pioneer a new way, explain unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of
creation( Chapter 3). . This quote means that Victor wants to explore dangerous areas that should
not be explored. Dangerous and unknown knowledge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prometheus punishment for stealing fire from the Greeks Gods was an eternal hell where a bird
will rip out his liver daily for eternity. For Victor Frankenstein, his punishment was similar to
Prometheus s. For Victor Frankenstein, his punishment was similar to Prometheus s. He too
suffered daily as a reminder of what he did. Victor Frankenstein s punishment is also similar to
Prometheus because he too has something ripped away from him. Prometheus had his liver ripped
away and Victor Frankenstein had his love ones taken away from him. Both Prometheus and Victor
Frankenstein suffer by playing God, . Prometheus crafts man while Victor crafts the daemon. In
Paradise Lost by John Milton, Satan and his legion of followers were cast out of Heaven and put
into Hell. Satan was cast out because he challenged the authority of God. Like Victor Frankenstein
and Prometheus the Titan, Satan did something that caused him to lose his title. Victor Frankenstein
was a smart young man that had a lot of promise and potential. He lost all of it because he
tampered with nature s authority. Prometheus was a powerful Titan that stole the right to make life
from Zeus; he too stole the power from a higher authority. All three characters, Satan, Prometheus,
and Victor, ended up in their own personal Hell. For Satan, he was thrown out of Heaven and was
chained to the burning lake in Hell. Prometheus s

Analysis Of The West In My Antonia
The Frontier
(An analysis of the west) My Antonia is a novel about the frontier. It is set in the early 1900 s
and is about what happened during this time. Nebraska is the state My Antonia is set in, but most
of the novel goes for a lot of the states in the west. According to Kathleen Norris, Cather had the
great good fortune to have lived among the first generation of white settlers in 1880s Nebraska, and
she gives witness to their time and place in such a way that American literature will never forget
them (Norris). This quote helps the reader see that the author, Willa Cather, had a reliable point of
view when she was writing this story because it was a lot of the stuff that she went through and
saw. As a result of this many believed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The environment is very important to do with the way people lived. The environment includes
the weather they had their and the condition of the soil. They considered the area a vast treeless
wasteland (Settlers). This quote shows that it didn t have many trees which made the weather
worse because there were no trees to stop the blizzards and storms. The book has a great
example of this, All day the storm went on. The snow did not fall this time, it simply spilled out
of heaven, like thousands of featherbeds being emptied. This shows that it doesn t just fall it
pours out, almost like a rain storm. Many saved up their food for the winter, so they didn t have
to go outside as much. They still had to take care of their fields and such, but they mostly stayed
inside. In anyone s life their environment is vital to how they turn out in life and how they act
around others. Although it can t decide for he or she, it can lead to a certain way of living. The
environment in the west leads most of the people that live there to be hard workers and they are
also not as affectionate

Christmas Break Over Break Research Paper
Contrary to common belief, you can actually learn a lot over Christmas break. Over break, I
learned that everything is not always as it sees, and to not overreact about something without
having enough knowledge. To explain what I learned, I am going to tell a little story about a
Christmas party that my dad s side of the familyhad. For a little background,my aunt is divorced
with two kids, and is currently dating a guy that is divorced with a 13 year old boy. My aunt
moved in with the guy she was dating, even though they aren t married, and wanted to have the
Christmasparty at her house. I also knew that their house had two big dogs, and I have had some
not so good experiences with big dogs, and that caused some anxiety. Before I

  • 2. My Paper On Lee Harvey Oswald Based on my research, I would like to dedicate my paper to Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald was born on October 18, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana. His dad died of a heart attack and later sent to an orphanage to live with his two older brothers. He was a United States Marine, who later in his life killed John F. Kennedy. He was murdered by Jack Ruby while he was in police custody and being taken to County Jail. Lee Harvey Oswald had also tried to kill right wing ex general Edwin A. Walker but he missed. He then moved to New Orleans for a couple of months, then moved back to the states. Before the killing had happened, he got a job at the Texas school as a Book Depository in Dallas. Where he attended the shooting of President Kennedy. He was mostly known because of the killing of John F. Kennedy. No one could find out why Lee H. Oswald assassinated John F. Kennedy. Based on some interview his families and friends went through, they all said that Lee praised President John F. Kennedy. Michael Paine, one of Lee s friends, who took Lee to a meeting of the American Civil Liberties Union, says Oswald thought President Kennedy was doing quite a good job in civil rights, which was high praise coming from Lee. A Warren Commissioners, Senator Richard Russell say he was a general misanthropic fellow ... he had a desire to get his name in history and all. Truman Examined Life In the film, The truman show, Socrates states that The unexamined life is not worth living ; what Socrates is trying to say is that if people do not question things, question life, and everyday things and just go through life not questioning things and just going with what everybody says and not living life. then it is not worth living. (Truman) was nothing real? (Christof) you were real. That s what made you so good to watch. There is no more truth out there then there is in the world I created for you. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Skepticism The most basic claim of skepticism, it seems to me, usually involves a version of the classic Cartesian Evil Demon Scenario (EDS). I believe that EDS should be redefined before we start an extensive discussion thereof: EDS is generally a scenario, involving an attitude towards the reality we live in (it includes both an ontological and epistemic shift in our thinking), involving questioning the basic assumption that what we perceive in that reality is not (directly) caused by the objects (phenomena et cetera), but is caused by an indirect entity (such as an Evil Demon or an Evil Scientist simulating the experience you seem to have). Even though this is the principle skepticism is based on, to me, it is also its weakest point. In this paper, I will, first, try to reconstruct some of the common skeptic approaches and then attempt to show how skeptic arguments and scenarios can be dissolved (not refuted, since trying to refute a skeptic argument causes one to fall into the same trap as the skeptic does). The foremost example of an EDS was presented by Descartes in his Meditation I. It proceeds in phases, which I will not talk in detail, but summarize in a concise way: Descartes first observes the objects, phenomena around him; then he concedes that he cannot tell the difference between waking and dreaming, that he had the ... These arguments follow premises that cannot be testified by observable data, neither do they provide any analytical, a priori arguments, which can be deduced from other a priori propositions. Even though I reject an epistemic discussion which involves any sort of EDS, from a meta epistemological perspective, this paper summarizes my beliefs pretty well and I also believe that those who find themselves in a situation where they have to argue against these types of arguments can benefit from some of the thoughts I laid out in this ... • 5. Deportation Analysis According to the Pew Research Center (2014), in 2013 the Obama Administration deported a total of 438,421 unauthorized immigrants (Gonzalez Barrera Krogstad, 2014). These deportations were expounded upon certain races and unauthorized immigrants of specific ethnic background. More and more Americans want stricter immigrationlaws and fewer outsiders who are not native born out of the United states. By ensuing prejudice throughout the nation, deportation is as form of discrimination. Deportation, like discrimination, excludes people of a specific race, religion, or ethnic background. Deportation categorizes the immigrant via visa status, with ethnicity, race or religion. Patrick Simon (2013), International Migration and Minorities Expert, states, Direct discrimination occurs if a person or a group is treated unfavorably because of their immigrant background. The second refers to a situation where formally equal treatment has, or is likely to have, the effect of disadvantaging immigrants, and that cannot be justified on ... Immigrants do not hold the same amount of freedoms that naturalized citizens and natives to America, since their rights can be taken away, just as David Cole (2010), Professor of Law at Georgetown University, mentions a groundbreaking case in his publication, Are Foreign Nationals Entitled to the Same Constitutional Rights as Citizens? (Cole, 2010). Cole (2010) states the perspective foreigners shouldn t be allowed the same rights were backed in April 2003 after the supreme court case of Demore V. Kim (Cole, 2010; p 368). It was proved through judicial restraint of a 1996 mandatory detention of deportable immigrants who have been convicted of crimes (Cole, 2010; p 368). • 6. Pullman Strike Essay The Pullman Strike was a disturbing event in Illinois history. It occurred because of the way George Mortimer Pullman, founder and president of the Pullman Palace Car Company, treated his workers. Organized in 1867, the company manufactured sleeping cars and operated them under contract to the railroads The Pullman Palace Car Company, a manufacturer of railroad cars cut the already low wages of its workers by about 25 percent, but didn t introduce corresponding reductions in rents and other charges at Pullman s company town near Chicago, where most Pullman workers lived. In result of this many worked and their families faced starvation. A large section of workers tried to present their problems about low wages, poor living conditions, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the ARU was not technically involved in the Pullman workers decision to strike, union officials had been in Pullman and at the meeting at which the strike vote was taken, and Pullman workers undoubtedly believed that the ARU would back them. A great deal of sympathy existed in Chicago and elsewhere for the Pullman workers, who were seen as common men and women tyrannized by an abusive employer and landlord. One plan was to refuse to hitch Pullman cars to trains and to unhitch those that were already attached. Another idea was a boycott: ARU members would refuse to handle Pullman cars or any trains with Pullman cars until the railroads severed their ties with the Pullman Company. ARU members would refuse to handle Pullman cars or any trains with Pullman cars until the railroads severed their ties with the Pullman Company. As any success for a boycott would be the Switchmen who had joined the ARU in large numbers. The ARU s president, Eugene V. Debs, predicted that, once the switchmen refused to add or remove Pullman cars from trains, the railroads would fire them and try to replace them with nonunion workers, and that in turn would lead other union members to walk out in solidarity, thus bringing more and more trains to a ... Those leaders express their profound thoughts for both him and the many others that are too afraid to speak out. One of the most notorious writers in American history and is known for his transcendental ideals. However, today s society lacks individuals who parallels with Whitman. Lupe Fiascorepresents the Modern American voice speaking out against the degrading world society and does so by influencing the public through their appeal of music. He suggests that others should, like him, ignore what others think and act purely on what you believe. Fiasco uses the analogy of slaves to describe the similar effects of losing one s individuality. The experiences one would face if he/she succumbs into the negative influences of others would be similar to that of African American slaves. Because of human nature, jealousy exists amongst every individual and by allowing others to control aspects of your life, he/she will be able harm those dependent variables of one s life. Similarly, Whitman states that one should freely ...give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families... • 9. Religion Position Paper There are several reasons why I have the religious affiliation that I do. My membership, unlike that of so many, has very little to do with the choices my friends and family have made. My decision was based on reason and personal experiences. While some may say that these things are both easily influenced by parents and peers, in my case I have parents of different faith and therefore have less direct influence from them. When I was very young I was made aware of the need to research religion. The problem with this is that as a child my comprehension and knowledge were both very limited. One example of this is First James chapter three verses eighteen and nineteen. These verses cover some very deep doctrine which most people choose to discard, but I believe that if it s in the Bible it s here for a reason. These verses read, For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; In this verse they answer a very important question, what happens to those who never have a chance to know and accept God into their lives. In this verse it explains to us that after death Christ went a preached to others which were dead. This gives them the opportunity to know of Him, and to either accepted or reject Him just as we have chosen. Now if we take this information and add it to another often discarded scripture we find something even more interesting. First Corinthians chapter fifteen verse twenty nine reads, Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? Here we learn that the Corinthians were doing some sort of baptisms for the dead. What this means is that those who learn of God after death not only have the opportunity to learn of him, but also to have the sacred ordinances which are necessary for salvation preformed on their behalf. It must be cooked to the point where it is no longer flimsy, so which would render it chewy, but not overly crunchy which would render it nearly unedible. For extra flavor, cook both of them in the same place you cooked the burger without removing the burger grease. The next part of the burger is one of the most essential and the easiest part. Like in humans, animals can be protected from illness by staying up to date on their vaccinations, which can range from once every six months to once every three years if kept current. However, there are those who choose not to vaccinate their pets and do not believe that vaccines are effective or safe. Is this mindset acceptable, or can it be considered dangerous? Is it necessary to vaccinate our pets? Are there risks to getting regular vaccines, and if so, what are they? A vaccineis, by definition, a preparation of killed microorganisms, living attenuated organisms, or living fully virulent organisms that is administered to produce or artificially increase immunity to a particular disease (Merriam Webster, n.d.). In other words, living or killed viruses or bacteria are injected into the body and used to create antibodies for diseases caused by those viruses or bacteria. For example, the disease leptospirosis is caused by coming into contact with Leptospira bacteria through ingestion, being bitten by an infected animal, or having an open wound or mucous membrane that can allow the bacteria to enter the body. It is also a zoonotic disease, meaning that humans can contract it from their dogs, although this is uncommon (AVMA, n.d.). Due to the increase of divorce rates children move more frequently and deal with additional family transitions throughout their childhood (Brown, 2006). As these changes slowly increase, about 40% of kids who are born to wedded, two biological parent families have a higher chance of parental divorce prior to reaching adulthood(Amato,2000). In addition, these children will likely experience a multitude of family disruptions and transitions as parents decide to remarry and progress with new partners. The family atmospheres during these times are incredibly detrimental to the growth and development of these children (Sun Li, 2009). Meanwhile, the transfer of data by using digital tools is extremely fast and easy, whether through a computer or via satellite. For example, traditional types of film reels, such as the 35mm or 70mm, have given place for high capacity hard drives (Dixon Foster 2011, p. 22). John Donne and Marvell brings out and shapes this meaning through his collective use of conceit, rhythm, and rhyme scheme. The basic theme of the poems is the speaker s need to turn his coy mistress into a willing mistress . Donne uses the flea as a conceit, to represent a sexual union with his significant other. Marvell using his way with words to convince his lover to a sexual union. In the first stanza in The Flea, a flea bites the speaker and woman. • 28. With Malice Toward None With Malice Toward None Essay In the history of the United States of America many men have made contributions to our nation, whether it be small or large. Our founding fathers John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington helped give birth to our nation by successfully guiding us through a revolution and our country s infancy. Franklin D Roosevelt led the nation through a war on two fronts eventually defeating the Axis powers of Nazi Germany and Japan. The list could go on and on about legendary men that made important contributions to the United Statesof America, however one man that seems to always come out on top of all these men is none other than our sixteenth president Abraham Lincoln. This man guided a nation through a Civil War that saw six hundred and twenty thousand people die. Signed the Emancipation Proclamation declaring that all persons held as slaves within the rebellious states are, and henceforward shall be free. And gave one of the most famous speeches in American history with is Gettysburg Address. • 29. The Upstream And Downstream Of Seeing By Annie Dillard The Upstream and Downstream of Seeing Annie Dillard s Seeing discusses the two possible ways to properly see things and relates them to light versus darkness in nature, and upstream versus downstream of a river. The essay explains that there are two ways to see things in the world; to look for something specific, or to let go of that desire to see something. Both types of seeing are also combined with either brightness or darkness and with either upstream or downstream. Dillard has trouble seeing anything in the upstream of the river because that part of the river is always dark or cloudy. On the other hand, she can see the animals in the downstream of the river, where everything is bright and lively. The river is split in two different symbols which help show the best way that one should view nature. The downstream and the upstream of the river have unique characteristics, and Dillard also compares them to darkness and light. By using powerful imagery and diction, Dillard is able to compare the two types of seeing and explain why letting go of the desire to see is the best way to look at things. Dillard s powerful imagery throughout the essay is crucial for understanding the differences in seeing. For example, she is able to describe something as broad as nature by using a simile such as, nature is like one of those line drawings of a tree that are puzzles for children (19). Since Dillard writes with such a loose structure, the imagery that she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The strong Irish culture influenced the Viking conquerors way of life, rather than an invader s long term domination would suggest. Anglo Norman invaders arrived in Ireland in 1169, attempting to colonize the island over the next 500 years. The invaders began to expand their influence across the island by means of force. These attacks caused rebellions from the Irish people, as they were no strangers to aggression from the East. Religious persecution of Catholic Irish grew in particular after the accession of Elizabeth I, a Protestant, to the throne in 1558. Oliver Cromwell s subsequent siege of Ireland in 1649 ended with massacres of Catholics at Drogheda and Wexford and forced the resettlement of thousands, many of whom lost their homes in the struggle. By 1691, with the victory of Protestant English King William III over the Catholic forces of James II, Protestant supremacy in Ireland had become complete. Catholics in Ireland suffered greatly in the subsequent period of British occupation, enduring laws that prevented them from bearing arms, holding public office and restricting their rights to an education. While many of those rights were eventually restored, the animosity between Catholics and Protestants remained. (Washington Post, 1999). A group of Irish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Tom Stoppard and the Crime-Writing Genre Mankind has perpetually maintained a fascination with what constitutes a crime and enjoyed piecing together the clues that authors of the crime genre provide us in solving their mysteries, thus appealing to our curiosity in the darker side of our humanity. The crime writing genre embodies humankind in its fullest, revealing our potential for both good and evil, a notion that is responsible for the genres cross contextual survival and universal appeal. It is due to this undying interest that writers of crime texts have the ability to subvert conventions and thereby deconstruct the philosophical and psychological assumptions that crime fiction is constructed upon. By subverting the conventions of the crime writing genre, composers are able to more freely explore issues concerning their respective contexts, a significant factor that has contributed to the genre s endurance. Tom Stoppard s play The Real Inspector Hound is a post modern text which utilises its absurdist nature to reflect the nihilistic philosophy of crime. The text simultaneously adheres to and discards the conventions of the crime genre through its employment of parody and its satirical characteristics. Instead, it was a time that they ought to behave in a certain way in response to their family s honour under a strict social hierarchy and rules. However, Shakespeare gave three women power in Othello. Desdemona, Emilia, and Bianca, although they are from different social classes, are able to use their power to successfully resist male authority. Othello begins in middle of an argument between Roderigo and Iago. Desdemona and Othello s wedding is the main topic of their argument. Desdemona is a Venetian beauty who is treated as a possession of her father, Brabantio, but by marrying an outsider Othello, she goes against the tradition of venetian custom which she is expected to marry a rich man to maintain her family s honour. Iago reports Brabantio that his daughter is being stolen by Othello. Awake! What ho, Brabantio! Thieves, thieves! (1.1. 76). This quote depicts how unmarried women were treated back in 16 s century. However, while everyone in the play thinks that Othello has stolen Desdemona to marry him, Desdemona speaks herself to prove that she truly loves Othello. That I love the Moor to love with him (1.3. 246). As a result, little is known about how employer branding can actually be used to support the corporate brand. More specifically, researchers have yet to explain what makes an organization s employer brand attractive to current employees (Maxwell Knox, 2009). More specifically, theorists argue that a corporate brand should be closely aligned with the identity of the organization.
