Crowd Behavior Analysis
35 students involved themselves in the rally. 15 of these students had rated themselves as shy.
Eight of those were rated as shy too by their classmates. We therefore had 8 students who we
could, almost with conviction, define as shy. This was particularly so since results of the
instrument supported this assessment. Special indirect observation was therefore accorded these 8
shy students to see whether or not they lost their personalty, as classical crowd psychology
asserted, under influence of the crowd. The rally itself occurred for an hour between the times of
2.00 3.00pm. The excuse was of calling for greater student rights on campus. I chose a topic that we
thought students would be particularly interested in. We also chose a time of day where students
would not be too tired, nor did they have a heavy workload of classes on that particular day. The
march too was outside their campus so students would not have to travel to it. We also attempted to
chose a cool day. All these conditions were selected with the intention of excluding any possible
confounding elemetn. The students seemed sufficiently motivated. Three of the eight shy students
evidenced slightly louder behavior than usual more extroverted with one carrying a banner and the
others actually, to some extent, being caught up in the engineered fervor. The others, however,
seemed less disinterested with two actually walking away minutes after the rally had started. Four

Virtual Teaching Hospital Research
For the change project, my mentor and I have chosen to discuss one of the topics listed in the
Virtual Teaching Hospital. We are going to address the increase in falls on the medical surgical unit.
Falls and injuries due to falls is a serious and dangerous problem which can lead to serious injuries,
adverse patient outcomes and high costs for hospitals. Falls and fall injuries in hospitals are the
most frequently reported adverse event among adults in the inpatient setting. Advancing
measurement and improvement around falls prevention in the hospitalis important as falls are a
nurse sensitive measure and nurses play a key role in this component of patient care (Quigley
White, 2013). Improving the quality of care and patient safety... Show more content on

Other personnel may be included as needed throughout the process. As a team, a plan for
implementing the best practices needs to be developed. These practices need to be processes that
are based on literature and evidence based research.
The first phase of the change process is preparing for the change. This includes defining the strategy
that will be used and developing a model for implementation. The second phase is managing
change. This phase includes developing change management plans and implementing them. In this
phase, it is also vital to train managers and supervisors about the change process, as well as, training
the primary caregivers, which include the nurse and assistive personnel. The third and final phase is
reinforcing the change. This phase includes collecting feedback, managing resistance, implement
corrective actions, and lastly, recognizing and acknowledging success.
Because, the change process needs to be a collaborative effort in order to be successful, there are
multiple change agents involved in this processes. However, the leader of the change process is
the primary change agent. The change agent acts as a catalyst for change. The leader is the person
that recognizes that a change is necessary and initiates the process to implement the change. In
order to be successful, the change agent needs to have a clear vision of

The Importance Of False Confessions
Almost any person would at first assume that if another person admitted to a crime, that
reasonable doubt is gone, and that person is guilty. They think, Why would anybody innocent
admit to a crime they did not commit? Statistically, according to the Innocence Project, a
foundation that stands to exonerate the wrongfully convicted, says 23% of people who have been
exonerated were in prison for false confessions. It has also been proven that even individuals free
of psychological issues and of average intelligence are susceptible to making a false confession
under the right interrogationtechnique. False confessions are an important ethical dilemma and any
person serving on a jury or being accused of a crime, should be aware of the possibility.
Our Rights
According to our constitution, the government may not coerce confessions. We as American
citizens are given rights that protect us from illegally obtained confessions; the first is the Miranda
rights which were established to protect a suspect from unknowingly incriminating themselves and
the second is the voluntariness requirement that prevents coerced confessions from reaching the
jury. These rules govern the admissibility of a confession into evidence, but do not determine false
from true confessions.
False Confessions
A false confession, by definition is admission to a criminal act, usually accompanied by a narrative
of the crime, that that confessor did not commit. According to research out of Cornell University,

The Jury System Essay
The right to trial by jury in the modern times originates from twelfth century England during the
reign of King Henry II. This system may originate from an ancient right for an accused to be tried
only by the lawful judgment of his equals or by the law of the land (Thomas). In the United States,
trial by juryis mentioned in Article Three of the Constitution and the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh
Amendments. For many people, the jury system seems to be the fairest system and most unbiased
way of determining a person s innocence or guilt. The system is to make sure that all receive fair
trial despite their race, gender, national origin, religion, political affiliation, or color. Jury service is
distinct in being the only form of civic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grand juries are not only done in private but the proceedings are not for public observation.
Petit juries are made up of six to twelve members, while grand juries from sixteen to twenty three.
Jurors are selected at random and must be an American citizen. To qualify, jurors must also be
over the age of eighteen, lived in the judicial district for a year, proficient English skills, and no
mental or physical conditions. The juror must have also not have any felony charges punishable
by imprisonment for more than a year or have been convicted of a felony. Active military
members, officers, firemen, and government officials are exempt from jury service. Being
summoned also does not guarantee that one will serve for the judge and attorneys will ask a
number of questions to determine if the individual is sustainable. In all types of cases, juries
must unanimously vote on a verdict except in civil cases where they can be non unanimous. A
law not told to jurors is the power of nullification. Knowledge of this law may prevent someone
from serving on a jury and the acknowledgement in certain circumstances may get a person
arrested. This power actually exist outside the law for it exist due to two other laws, where juries
cannot be punished for a wrong decision and a not guilty defendant cannot be tried for the same
crime. This is where the jury says guilty or not guilty , but they think differently. Though guilty
verdicts can be

Religion In The Film Silence
The film, Silence, has a myriad of characters that are on a spectrum of religious belief. There are
certain characters that show an immense devotion to their faith, willing to risk their life and the
lives of others to profess their fidelity to God. Although this film highlights two Jesuit priests,
Father Sebastian Rodrigues and Father Francisco Garupe, there is an interesting contrasting
devotion from the Inquisition to Buddhism. They have no tolerance for Christianity and believe it
to be a cancer that must be cut from Japan. The priests go to great lengths to find a third priest,
Father Cristovao Ferreira, who has gone missing while operating as a missionary. Father Ferreira
ends up getting captured, recants his faith, and sides with the Inquisition, helping them investigate
objects hidden as Christian relics. There are many applicable ideas relating to religious
fundamentalismwithin the film.
Sigmund Freud and William James differ on the explanation of religious experience. James focuses
on religion as feelings and experiences of an individual. For the most part the religious experience
is felt instead of a concept. James also believes that religion is not linear or homogenous. There are
different perceptions or involvement one has with their faith. A great example of contrasting
persons within their religious experiences in the film, Silence, is Father Rodrigues and Yosulu
Kubozuka (Kichijiro). The viewer would most likely consider Father Rodrigues as the main

Blood Disorders
Blood is one of the most essential elements within the body. Blood is made up of plasma, red
blood cells, and platelets. Blood is vital to the body functioning correctly, and it is important to
understand that there are many types of blood disorders that can cause people to get sick. While
there are many different types of blood disorders out there, this paper is going to cover three
which are, anemia, sickle cell, and thrombocytopenia. Also, a review of plasma, red blood cells,

He may have the sickle cell trait.
Sickle cell anemia is a genetically transmitted disorder marked by episodes of painful crisis,
severe hemolytic anemia, and increased susceptibility to infections. This disorder usually affects
African American (Zelman, Tompary, Raymond, Holdaway, amp; Mulvihill, 2010) Since this
disorder is inherited and affects African American this puts Davon at a higher risk. Sickle cell
anemia can be diagnosed by having a genetic testing and blood test. Some symptoms of this
disorder are pain crisis, fatigue, splenic sequestration, bacterial infections, shortness of breath, and
eye damages. Some treatments for sickle cell anemia are supportive therapy during the crisis,
blood transfusions, and prevention of sickle cell crisis. Since this is an inherited disorder, there is
no prevention. This blood disorder is usually diagnosed in childhood and persists throughout a
person s life ( Mayo Clinic , 2015).
The last scenario and blood disorder is Spencer, who over the past several weeks is having more
bruises, or ecchymosis, all over his body. After coughing this morning, Spencer noticed tiny red
marks all around his eyes. Spencer is showing signs of thrombocytopenia. Thrombocytopenia is a
condition of the blood in which the blood doesn t clot properly because there are not enough
platelets. This condition can be caused by many different things such as decreased platelet

Donald Trump Dishonest Issues
Trumped
Over the past several months there has been much controversy and dissention surrounding some of
the presidential candidates of this year s 2016 campaign period. One republican candidate in
particular, Donald Trump, has caused a universal uproar with his abusive and abrasive behavior.
Trump has displayed ruthless ethics by continually being dishonest, disrespectful, and disobliging
throughout his numerous interviews and rallies. What will be the fate of our nation with Donald
Trump as the 45th president of the United States of America? If anything has been shown in plain
view from Trump s unethical and dishonest statements, it is that of a raving lunatic. Time after
time he has poked at and made fun of his opponents, as well as their supporters . How could we as
people of a supposed caring Christian nation stand for his socially unacceptable actions? We cannot!

CS 549 TOPICS IN ARITIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TEXT TO SPEECH CONVERSION
USING NEURAL NETWORKS Project Report Firstly, Artificial Intelligence was used in 1956,
at the Dartmouth conference and from then it is expanded because of various proposed theories
and many new principles developed by its researchers. It is an area of computer science that
focusses on creating machines that can engage on behaviors of humans, solve the computational
models for complex problems. Here Neural Networks are a computational approach to AI, which is
based on the great collection of Neural Units, which models a Human brain as connected large
number of neurons. These neurons are connected to each other to process the information as of the
human brain. Artificial neural network (ANN) learn by testing and training data. The Artificial
Intelligence in brief can be defined as the study and design of intelligent agents. Text to Speech
Conversion using Neural networks: In this project, we are developing Natural Language Processing
(NLP), which is related to processing human language by computer. The base paper for the
implementation of our project is Natural Language processing techniques in Text To Speech

Tobacco In Kentucky History Essay
Role of Tobacco in Kentucky History
Tobacco existed in Kentucky long before the establishment of the commonwealth Kentucky. Native
Americans; such as the Shawnee, utilized tobacco medicinally and ceremonially. European settlers
brought it with them to central and, eventually, western Kentucky, and until the late 1920s,
Kentucky produced more tobacco than any other state. Kentucky remained the largest burley and
dark tobacco producer, and ranked second, in total pounds produced, to North Carolina.
Aside from recreational and ceremonial use, some Native American tribes and European Americans
remedies involved tobacco, including pain easing salves, fighting labor pains, using smoke for
colic and asthma, and chewing to soothe toothaches (Campbell). In 1964, the US Surgeon General
released its first report regarding smoking hazards. Later reports offered specific warnings about
tobacco use, including heart and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the state, most notably in Western Kentucky. They burned buildings, and destroyed fields and
machinery in order to coerce hesitant farmers into joining them. They even beat and murdered non
participating farmers to intimidate others! The government finally dispersed the ATC s monopoly
in 1911.
During World War I, prices rose with the growing popularity of blended cigarettes, but dropped
soon after. Kentucky burley farmers responded with an initially successful Burley Tobacco
Growers Co operative Association that was inactive by 1926. The Great Depression worsened the
situation, costing some farmers their land! Work programs and legislation provided some relief.
The New Deal introduced the federal tobacco program (strengthened through subsequent
legislation), which stabilized prices. Farmers raised yearly quotas in exchange for price supports

Mental Illnesses Are Becoming More And More Prevalent...
Background
Mental illnesses are becoming more and more prevalent among the population in the United
States. In 2014, 1 in 5 adults were diagnosed with any mental illness (AMI) as evidence by
statistics presented by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (SAMHSA, 2015); of those
1 in 5 adults, 18 years and older in the United States, accounts for 18.1% of the population, or
43.6 million people diagnosed with depression and/ or anxiety (Kessler RC, Chiu WT, Demler O,
Walters EE, 2005). From changes in mood, to changes in thoughts and behaviors, mental illnesses
are sought to be higher in adults ages 18 25 (SAMHSA, 2015).

number of relapsed patients entering hospitalizations or partaking in substance use to self medicate,
this course teaches evidence based coping mechanisms.
Theoretical Framework
Applying the Health Belief Model (HBM) for this program is the most beneficial framework
because it gives students the facts of how students actually perceive themselves when it comes to
mental illnesses. Students will have the opportunity to learn and actively practice the life skills
they are taught while receiving ample amount of resources. Four of the primary constructs in the
health belief model can be depicted by engagement of students in the course. The constructs being
evaluated are: Perceived Susceptibility, Perceived Severity, Perceived Benefits, and Perceived
Barriers (Coreil, J., 2010). The cues of action and self efficacy are the additional concepts intertwine
with the aforementioned constructs (Coreil, J., 2010). Inevitably, having a required course for
students to complete prior to attending college, will better prepare them for life s stressful moments.

The Dangers of Tanning Essay
Spring is finally here, and Spring Break and the Senior Prom are around corner. The teenagers
and the college kids are planning a drive to the tanning salons or a day at the beach. The media
has instilled in women that tan skin is a sign of youth and sex appeal. Some people go to the
tanning salons and others spend hours outside in the sun to achieve the sun goddess look. Many
don t realize the dangers that come with the sun or a box with light bulbs that has more UVA
radiation than the sun does. From fair to dark skin, people are being destroyed by the same UVA

For they realize the dangers of tanning beds. Tanning beds generally emit 93% to 99% UVA
radiation, which gives off thirteen times more radiation than the sun. It s easy for some people,
who have read the facts, to stop tanning in tanning beds, but others have fallen prey to it and
they won t stop because it s too enjoyable. Research has found that tanning beds seems affects
more than just the skin. During tanning sessions, exposure UV light seems to elevate people s
mood and may be addictive. Those who are addictive are called tanorexia. (Linke) According to
the American Academy of Dermatology Association, skin that has been exposed to UV light
generates and releases beta endorphin, which is an opium like chemical. Beta endorphin is best
known for supplying the sense of well being, or a runner s high that accompanies energetic
exercise. (Ruscitto) Tanning beds can put people s mood in high spirits. A person, who tans
frequently, who tries to stop tanning is hard for them, because when they do, they have symptoms
of withdrawal including nausea and jitters. An infrequent tanner experiences no withdrawal
symptoms. People who are addictive can t stop, and are speeding straight towards danger. Twenty
minutes in a tanning bed is like spending a whole day at the beach with no sun block. UVA rays
penetrate deep into the skin tissue, changing the DNA structure. Scientists discovered that tanning
beds are as dangerous as arsenic and mustard gas. (Siddons) People tan

Summary Of Who Invented The Lightbulb
Elizabeth Palermo, the staff writer of Live Science magazine that focuses on innovative progresses
in areas as science, technology, environment, history and etc. Palermo writes about science and

B.A. Palermo s article Who Invented the Lightbulb? gave interesting facts about scientists and
physicist who desired to succeed in developing the first lightbulb that help light up the world.
The articles Who Invented the Lightbulb? contain valuable insights about the history of lightbulb.
The author organized her article in chronological order to point out that Thomas Edison was not first
scientist who wanted to succeed on inventing lightbulb. Long before Edison created his laboratory,
many other inventors tried unsuccessfully to invent not just a lightbulb, but the lightbulb that can

chemists, and inventors who spent more than a half of their lives in the laboratories to create first

Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean
Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those
who live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this
impact has been negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial
tension between blacks and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slaverydid
not allow for upward mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian
Ocean was not based upon race, and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a
sense of upward mobility in the Indian Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic
slave trade which involved more brutal treatment based upon race. Today, slavery is known as
one of the most inhumane acts of mankind. Slaves were brought over from their countries,
mainly from the western and southern coast of Africa, to work for the Europeans without pay.
Not only were they without pay, they were brought over in boats, packed on all decks of the ship
in such a way that was comparable to a can of sardines. Slaves were taken and shipped to
countries in South America and North America, to work on plantations to harvest plants such as,
Tobacco, Cotton, Sugarcane, and Indigo. These slaves worked 20 hour days on these plantations
and were rewarded with slave quarters which were in most cases in unlivable conditions. No

Chaos Theory Essay
Missing Figures
CHAOS
The word chaos, an enigmatic part of the vernacular, means a state without order, or the opposite of
cosmos, an ordered state. Mathematical chaos is instability and unpredictability, often seen in
nature due to its sensitivity to the random disturbances that commonly occur. This is known as
determinism; previous events heavily influence future events, and small changes eventually lead to
larger variations. Philosophically, chaos theoryimplies that everything is connected; our past
actions impact our future. Though chaotic evolution is irregular, there are rules behind its apparent
disorder that are used to study it. Studying chaos may enrich our lives and help us understand more
of our world.

One night, he ran a weather sequence a second time halfway through the regular process in order
to save time. When he came back to look at the computer s output, he saw that the second run had
diverged partway through and looked completely different (Figure 1), simply because he had
inputted a value to three decimal places instead of six.
Fig 1: Lorenz s two weather runs.
According to the present scientific convention, such a small change of one part in a thousand in
initial values should have been inconsequential. Lorenz called this vast change the butterfly effect.
He stated that an event so small as the flap of a butterfly s wings could completely alter a system
such as the atmosphere. Over a long enough period of time, a much larger event would be affected
immense storm that would have happened not happening, or vice versa. However, Lorenz
published his paper discussing this phenomenon in a meteorology journal, and consequently, chaos
theory was not immediately recognized as a new branch of mathematics.
Chaos has an underlying order to it. As PoincarГ© demonstrated, sometimes simple mathematical
equations result in much more chaotic outcomes. Disorder can often be found in the behavior of
difference equations, which model a quantity at some time. In this iterative process, which is truly
deterministic, the value of the term xn+1 is dependent on the value of xn. For example, if we have
the simple difference equation 3

Two Innovation of the Nineteenth Century
When asked what the most important invention is, many questions comes to mind, and these
questions must be answered before responding to the initial question. Basically, anything that did
not exist previously, whether it is a mechanical device or graphics, literature, or music, is an
invention . The eighteenth, nineteenth and the twentieth centuries were met with innumerable of
new inventions, technical breakthroughs, and innovations. Steam locomotive, diesel engine and the
internet were two of the technological innovations that revolutionized societies in the nineteenth
and twentieth century. Invented in England in 1814, Steam locomotive was one of the technological
inventions that revolutionized the world. The first full scale locomotive was constructed by
Richard Trevithick a British mechanical engineer in 1804 at the Penydarren Ironworks in Wales.
Before then in 1797, Trevithick had constructed high pressure working models of both stationary
and locomotive engines which was a success. With four driving wheels, Steam locomotive had
smooth wheels operating on smooth metal rails, its success showed that enough traction could be
accomplished without using gear wheels and a cogged or toothed track. Trevithick locomotive
exhausted its steam into the stack of the engine s firebox; this provided a forced conscription for
the blast in the firebox and was used on

Conflict Management Style With Others
Conflict Management Style When considering your conflict management style with others, be it;
personal or professional, we tend to use the style that seems appropriate to the conflict.
Managing conflict is a difficult task that we all face during our life time, but becoming aware of
your own characteristic style could help determine why conflicts result exactly the way they do. It
helps determine what is a healthy outcome, or not? Each circumstance is different! Interpersonal
conflict is very common with many relationships. It occurs when two people can not meet in the
middle or agree on a discussion. Cooperation is key to maintaining a healthy debate. More
frequently; when dealing with members of your own family, issues arise that include conflict and
resolution. During this process our true conflict management style appears out of thin air . (Steve
A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). Our behavior or conflict style tells a lot about us as humans. It is an
important piece of life s puzzles, and how we go about living a healthy life. Our particular path
decides where conflict will lead to, or if it could be resolved quickly with everyone feeling
content. However, our non verbal behavior could indicate when a person is upset or anoid. This is
usually related to unmet needs or goals (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). I participated in a conflict
management style quiz that was created by Reginald Adkins to see what style I followed. The style
that I tend to follow is Harmonizing.

Roman Colosseum Research Paper
A good example of Roman architecture is the Ancient Greek Temple in Paestum, Italy. The inside
of the Roman buildings are very impressive. The Roman Colosseum also known as the Flavian

the Colosseum was for popularity and public viewing of animal fights. Also Roman gladiators
would fight there. They are mostly slaves , prisoners or criminals, mostly men but very few women
were in these. These were attended by poor, the rich and sometimes the emperor. The Roman

The procedure a individuals goes through to acquire political values and attitudes is known as
political socialization. When observing an individual in the process of political socialization,
there are a number of factors that influences the outcome. Family and friends are the primary
agents that affect an individual who is developing their political socialization. Since family
members are the first to influence ideologies for somebody, who is still developing and growing,

Starting small, gender is a specific that divides the nation due to the varying perspectives between
men and women. Gender becomes even more complex with the addition of others sexual/gender

religion; it is crucial to understand how it has evolved over the course of our nation s history and
why not everyone is represented. Religion, itself, shares the sample problem with sampling
everyone randomly within a population: both share a varied and complex amount that can create
insignificant data for a sample. Take Christianity for example: if one tried to sample the entire
religion (that contains over thirty thousand different branches and denominations), the data would
be out of date and irrelevant to the goals of the sample in the first place. Not to mention the amount
of data that would only represent a small portion of a sample (ex. small denominations that believe
in extreme views. That is why it s common to see centralized branches of Christianity (Catholicism,
Protestantism, Non denominations, etc.) in samples, instead of a broad category of unconnected
religions in the population. The same can be theoretical for other major religions such as Islam,

The aspects of an Amish funeral service are steeped in customs that vary largely from that of an

In general, when a member of the Amish community dies, their body will be embalmed. Unlike
most of the more conservative religions, the Amish believe in using both arterial embalming (The
process of injecting chemicals into the arterial system of the body) and visceral embalming (The

The Power Of Literacy In Jimmy Santiago Baaca s Coming...
Jimmy Santiago Baca s Coming into Language displays a dark, yet uplifting view of the power of
literacy. From his beginning in the hospital, toward the end during his imprisonment, Baca moves
from the mindset of a rebellious teenager to a poetic adult. Through vivid descriptions, metaphors,
the appeal to the audiences emotions, and Baca sets up a transformational framework to show how
literacy can be a way of escape. Baca s story seeks to explain a point of view that one is more likely
to become incarcerated and to struggle in life if he is uneducated. I wrote to sublimate my rage,
from a place where all hope is gone, from a madness of having been damaged too much, from a
silence of killing rage (Baca).
In his writing, Baca uses word pictures to show a side of despair in his life that eventually leads
to a positive change where he now has hope. The beginning is filled with scenarios of him
working in an emergency room mopping up pools of blood and carting plastic bags stuffed with
arms, legs and hands to the outdoor incinerator (Baca), then moves on to detailed descriptions of his
times spent incarcerated, and how the detectives treat an intoxicated man. His shrill screams raked
my nerves like a hacksaw on bone, the desperate protest of his dignity against their inhumanity.
(Baca) The wording he uses describes a vivid, violent, and at times beautiful view. Throughout the
narrative, Baca builds an explanation of the circumstances he is in, and builds a visual where

The Pros And Cons Of Surviving A Zombie Apocalypse
Surviving is to continue to live or exist despite dangerous or life threatening situations. There are
many circumstances that could threaten the survival of a person or a group of people. Drastic
situations such as the zombie apocalypse has the potential threat to wipe out the entire human
population. Survival of the apocalypsewill take an individual and a group s efforts, skills, and
determination to escape.
Situations will arise where the group will need a variety of tools, and supplies to survive and to
approach close combat. Guns are essential to surviving a zombie apocalypse. The ability to kill a
zombie from a distance is safer and than approaching the undead to perform close combat. Although
a gun seems to be the best method of destruction to a zombie, the weapon also brings some

A Brief Note On Psychological And Psychological Disorders
Malingering Psychological Disorders Jalisse M. Smith John Jay College of Criminal Justice
Deception is often portrayed in various instances. Patients may feign an illness to get quick medical
attention, receive compensation, or to evade going to work. Individuals sometimes even pretend to
have physical or psychological illnesses to avoid reporting to military duty. Psychologists and
psychiatrists often find themselves in the position to determine whether or not a criminals alleged
symptoms are real or exaggerated. Malingering, according to the American Psychological
Association is defined as the premeditated fabrication of deception and inflated physical or
psychological symptoms, driven by outside motivations. It is important to detect defendant
malingering to determine whether the individual is competent to stand trial. Competent to stand
trial refers to an individual s ability to take part effectively in criminal proceedings and to assist in
one s defense. Psychological evaluations were developed to detect people who are faking their
symptoms. One example of this is the Structured Interview of Reported Symptoms (SIRS)
(Costanzo Krauss, 2012). This test is approximately a thirty minute interview and evaluation. The
psychologist questions the examinee about the physical or psychological symptoms that they claim
to be experiencing. The test consists of questions that are unlikely to be truthful even for who are
severely mentally disturbed. The content

Theme Of Women In A Room Of One s Own
For centuries women have been forced into a role which denied them equal opportunities.
Virginia Woolf expresses her frustration on why women were denied privacy in her novel, A
Room of One s Own. Woolf compares the traditional lifestyle tailored made for the opposite sex
and the sacrifices that came with it. Women are limited intellectually as to not interfere with their
domesticated duties. Even having the same desires for activities and education as men, a women s
place was not allowed in the man s world.
People may find Woolf s theories outdated; the statement For genius like Shakespeare s is not born
among laboring, uneducated, servile people would be met with controversy if published today
(Woolf 46). It is important to remember that Woolf believes that money and personal independence
go hand in hand with freedom of thought, and that poverty and its attendant troubles prevent such
thought. She admits that brilliance can emerge from low working classes but is rare. Woolf is
clearly at odds with any kind of protest literature, feeling that it reduces the incandescent talent of
the writer (Woolf 56).
The narrator returns home disappointed that she hasn t found some piece of truth to explain the
poverty that women don t share with men. Woolf thinks she needs a historian to describe the
conditions of women through history. Compared to men, woman s lives seem non existent. She
describes fiction as being connected to life but as careful as a spider web and, in

Hey you re good at math , Hey you re dumb for an Asian , Well of course he s good at that, he s
Asian . These are the phrases that defined my childhood and still are relevant to my daily life.
These are phrases are a part of what society calls today The Model Minority Myth . This all started
during World War II, where Chinese and Japanese Americans adopted a plan to promote
assimilation with the American people. With this plan, they succeeded in proving to America, that
they worked harder, were more focused on education to gain their success. While the other

Asians are left in the dark, those Asians are looking at long and dark road with no aid what so
ever. By putting all Asians into one category, is no different than the racial discrimination of the
1960s in the United States of America towards African Americans. Although not as bad, the general
idea is the same. In today s society, where we promote equality and fairness, how are we going to
let the Model Minority run rampant? Although the Model Minority may seem positive, it has dire
consequences. The Model Minority myth not only effects the education system but altercations
with the law as well. There is the story of Kuanchang Kao, an intoxicated Chinese American fatally
shot in 1997 by police threatened by his martial arts moves. (Why Ferguson Should Matter to Asian
Americans) As said in the article, this incident parallels the incident that has happened in Ferguson
but did not receive national attention that the Ferguson case has gotten. This is mostly like due to

Americans disregard the validity of their struggles. Jack Linshi says that due to the Model Minority

A State Of Confusion And Dismay
I awaken in a state of confusion and dismay as to where I am and how I got here. I assign
confusion to being in a pitch black room, or what I assume to be a room, I cannot tell for sure
because it s so dark and empty. As I stumble around and try to find some sort of clue as to where I
am, a blinding light suddenly pierces through the darkness and shines with an unbearable heat
against my pale face. I begin to wonder if I am trapped in here for a reason, maybe I have done
something to deserve this. Maybe it was the time I stole from the local gas station, or maybe it
was something much worse, maybe it was something more evil and of morbid intent. As I lay on
the hard ground trying to push those dark memories deep inside my head, I begin to notice the
light moving and change in brightness almost as if someone was holding it. I get the weird
sensation that I am not alone and am being watched, but this feeling soon passes as I notice the
room get hot and the air becomes thick with humid air like a summer night after a long storm.
The air continues to get thicker; I begin to feel myself choking, and soon realize why I am in this
place and just what it wants. My flight back home landed around nine in the morning, and all
around me I saw families reunited with their loved ones; all around me was love and compassion
which I had not felt in quite some time. I walked through the snaking hallways of the airport

Maximilien Robespierre, Leader of the French Revolution
Europe cannot conceive of life without Kings and nobles; and we cannot conceive of it with them.
Europe is lavishing her blood to preserve her chains, whereas we are lavishing ours to destroy
them (Maximilien Robespierre). For centuries upon centuries, the monarchal system had dominated
European life. The very nature of this method of rule incited rebellious feelings, as a definite
imbalance of power was present. Understandably, people under this system had risen against
authority. The glorious nation of France was no exception. The eighteenth century brought about a
great deal of economic and social turmoil. By the end of this one hundred year period, rebellion
had been talked about by many citizens for quite some time. However,... Show more content on

The personal rebellions of Maximilien Robespierre took many forms, as did those of the French
Revolution, but no specific act of rebellion is perhaps best remembered by history or best associated
with his hand than the execution of the oppressive Monarchy itself. The main problem in France at
the time of the French Revolution was money management. The monarchy was wasting funds on
exorbitant palaces and individual pleasures. They also invested a ton of money into the American
Revolution, money that they had not yet gotten back. These managerial mishaps of the Monarchy
manifested themselves in such forms as utter and widespread destitution among the people, and
starvation among the least fortunate of the country s inhabitants. In some cases, the repair of the
economy would have been trusted to the ruling classes to fix, but Robespierre, along with many
others, realized that nothing would change unless a change in leadership accompanied it. The
feelings of many were embodied by this conclusion delivered by Robespierre in the National
Assembly: It is with regret that I pronounce a fatal truth: Louis ought to perish rather than a
hundred thousand virtuous citizens; Louis must die that the country may live (Maximilien
Robespierre). It so passed that French

Political Leadership And Its Importance
1. Theoretical Definition
Being a leader is a complex fate. Although contradictions and clashing expectations are part of life,
they are especially present in the exercise of leadership (Cronin and Genovese 2012, 1).
Political leadership is a broad multidimensional phenomenon that has been analyzed through various
lenses; yet there is no one concrete definition. In the following response, I will present a brief

importance. Then, I will examine the relevance of the typologies and authors we have considered in

Although Sandberg s framework can be useful in the business world, I find that studying
political leadership strictly from a gender based approach could be insufficient. Regardless of
his/her gender, a leader is an individual that possesses the necessary characteristics that will make
or break his/her leadership. In her book, The Power of Latino leadership, Juana Bordas offers
culture based analysis of leadership. Although her book focuses on Latino culture, I find some
of the leadership principles that she offers, relevant in trying to define political leadership. For
example, Personalismo (The Character of the Leader) is a leadership principle that explores
leaders abilities to connect with people and embody traits that will exemplify trust and respect in
relation to their followers (Bordas 2013, 8). Juntos (we are together) describes the collective and
collaborative nature of leadership (Bordas 2013, 10). The leader works hand in hand with his/her
followers to achieve the desired common end results (Bordas 2013, 10).
These two principles presented by Bordas are strongly related to James MacGregor Burns account
of transforming leadership. He describes transforming leadership as a collective process where
leaders and followers empower each other to fulfill the wants and the needs of the people (Burns
2003, 2). Burns argues that deep and durable change, guided and measured by values, is the
ultimate purpose of transforming leadership, and

viewpoint of Achebe was biased to some extent when writing this novel, as someone who came

The Significance Of Women During Colonial America
The Significance of Women During Colonial America Life during colonial America was bleak;
in many colonies such as Jamestown or Plymouth, from fewer than 150 people, a new
community an ocean away from their old homes had to be created. Factors like agriculture,
shelter, and economy were no exception to the long list of necessary things that needed to be
developed. At first, the colonial people continued to abide by the same customs that they had
back in Europe. As time passed, though, they began to have a different approach. One of the
norms in Europe was that women were to stay inside the house to attend to housework and to take
care of their children. However, in colonial America, that wasn t the only thing expected from
women; the role of women changed drastically. Despite it being considered improper in Europe
for women to work outdoors or tend to businesses like men, colonial women joined men outside
with tasks ranging from agricultural duties to handling business affairs (Bjornlund 24).
Consequently, colonial American women played a critical role in the success of their families and
the American colonies, as well as America s independence. Women, like the floors and walls of a...

God s Spirits Of Lust
Human Sacrifices
Satan s spirits of lust emerge in the pagan gods Baal, Molech, and Chemosh that are all mentioned
in the Bible; specifically, their practices often included distorted sexual acts, human sacrifices,
cannibalism, and the eating of blood that were distinctively traits of devil worship. Baal worship
became abundant throughout much of the ancient Middle East; concurrently, in early societies Baal
has a long history of perverted sex that is akin to Pan Worship within his cult rituals. Mount
Hermon turned out to be one of the major centers of Baal/Pan worship that involved the brutality of
human sacrifices. Baal obtained other god s identity, such as the horned Molech; well known for
child sacrifices. The various names and epithets of Baal occurring in the Old Testamentand
elsewhere were derived from his various aspects and the localities of his worship. For the majority
of people, the cruelty of tormenting and murdering children becomes too devastating, believing that
it just could not have happened. On the contrary, the Bible s staunch position states numerous times
concerning these killings, and references how the Israelites served the idols of the heathen.
In 1870, Sir Charles Warren happened to be exploring in the Lebanon region on the summit of
Mount Hermon and found the ruins of a temple believed to belong to Baal. Similarly, this could be

America s independence from Great Britain on July 4, 1776 the United States government has
sought to realize the fundamental principle on which our nation was founded. This was the start of

Each branch has separate functions and associations with the other branches. The forefathers
planned an organization by means of which each individual branch would observe the other two
branches to verify that they are acting in accordance with the fundamental laws and are not trying
to overrule the other branches and become an empire by themselves. The first branch is the
Judicial Branch also known as the court system. The Judicial branch is in place to supply the
people with true merits and qualities of laws. There are a number of powers that the judicial branch
is liable for such as trying and convicting offenders of the law which includes associates of
parliament. Another part of the judicial organization is to understand bylaws and how they relate to
the latest state of affairs while also determining the validity to the Constitution. With the previous
statement in mind, the judicial branch can also upend a ruling or law if it is found to be in
disagreement of the U.S. Constitution.
The interaction among the three branches of government in America comes down to checks and
balances. Each branch has specific powers, duties, or roles outlined in the Constitution. A quick
breakdown would look like this: LEGISLATIVE Make Laws
EXECUTIVE Enforce or execute laws, JUDICIAL Interpret laws. Of course, each branch does

Report On Tesco s Impairment
Question 11 Report on Tesco s Impairments Executive Summary Tesco reported a write down of
ВЈ7bn in one off charges in the 2014 financial results, which is the first set of the whole year
financial results by the new chief executive Dave Lewis and this practice is called kitchen sinking.
This report gives explanation of its definition, the reason why Tesco adopted this approach and
how it tested impairment under the accounting standard (IAS). Introduction Tesco is one of the
biggest retailer in UK which provides food and non food products. However, a ВЈ4.7 billion
property impairment results to a loss of ВЈ6.4 billion. Tesco reported a massive property write down
of ВЈ7bn in the 2014 financial results of one off items, which contains restructuring costs,
goodwill, impairments and resolution of the commercial income recognition scandal in
September 2014 (John Stokdyk 2015). This is the first set of whole year financial results by the
new chief executive Dave Lewis and it gives the corporate and its investors a kitchen sinking. The
practice, kitchen sinking, is a term used when a recently nominated chief executive announce all
the bad news at once that found in the company and report it in an early financial results
announcement to make any succeeding results look more impressive. The reason is to keep the
company away from negative accounting issues and to assure investors realise who is to blame.
Main Findings The Tesco s accounting team under Dave Lewis put every write off,

My Experiences Of My Life In High School
Ang pangalan ko ay Bianca, My name s Bianca. but my friends call me B for short. I do have
various witless nicknames like Bob or BB Grill but I wouldn t prefer being called any of those
names unless you want the whole class to laugh. During my first day, I perceived Stockdale as a
welcoming school. Especially because my teachers were affable and approachable. I am aware of
all the obstacles along the way, but that s not going to stop me from reaching my aspirations. All in
all, I m looking forward to spending my high schoolyears in Stockdale and I know it will provide
me with good memories, knowledge and fun times.
For most of my life, I ve lived in the Philippines and I was born on April 14, 2003. Moving from
the Philippines had been my biggest travel so far, and since then, I haven t visited back home. One
of the reasons why we moved is because my Mom wanted to live closer to my Step Dad. Now, we
live together as a family of five with my little brother Miggy and Austin who is my older
stepbrother. We ve lived here in Bakersfield for 2 years now and it has been a great experience.
Coming from the Philippines made me different from others. I can speak in Tagalog, and I have
an odd taste for food, simply because our cuisine usually contains Vinegar or Soy Sauce. One of
my favorite dishes is called, Sinigang which is basically pork or fish cooked in Tamarind soup with
vegetables. Interestingly, throughout my life, my main hobby has always been singing or

Political Turncoatism
Introduction To be a party to an organization is to be identified to that organization and renunciation
of the other party. However, in the Philippine case politicians freely and gracefully shift from one
party to another, the other changed his mind and do the same. Party switching had been a common
scenario in the Philippine politics. Its occurrence is usually at election times or at times when there
is a need to resolve a certain conflict involving a political issue or question and during times of
revolutions and People Power. True enough the party system of the country seems to resemble
chameleons of politicians going from one party to another.
On several occasions when there is a need of choosing a stand, no contemporary party in the ...

I kept on thinking about something that is obviously a problem but of which its manifestations is
not usually bothered and studied of and for that no actual reforms are passed to alter the problem.
I decided to think of the wrongs and liabilities of the political dynamics in the Philippines. I just
can t get over the rampant party switching of different politicians for their own convenience and in
my perspective, how the people just take that for granted and has it considered as a common
Filipino political culture. And then, I get to ask what kind of PARTY system do we have?
So that was it, I m going to study the root of POLITICAL TURNCOATISM, all about these
political butterflies and the Party System of the country that seems to be arbitrariness of its
existence.
At first, since I wasn t able to appreciate public administration and that I wasn t able to take
legislative course, it was hard for me to actually articulate from that point on and start doing things.
But after reading piles of documents, books, articles and etc, watching and reading news,
continuous researching and several informal discussions with classmates, elderly and some people
with authority to the subject matter, what I have to do with my research becomes clearer and more
interesting.
I can actually say mine s a good topic. It is very much political and indeed has social relevance. It
concerns the society as a whole and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Backpacks
If commuting is your daily lifestyle, then you need total protection for all your belongings
within your backpack. At the same time, it is somewhat challenging to avoid using backpack, as
we need its excellent convenient features when we bring lots of stuff. The major drawback of
wearing a backpack is our inability to keep it safe from pickpocketers, as we cannot keep an eye on
it, particularly when we are walking down the jam packed pedestrian sidewalk.
Such phenomenon has led many backpack manufacturers to launch antitheft backpack. It contains
some features for the bag s total protection. It works more than just a storage for users daily needs,
whether they are laptop and its accessories, smart phone or tablet and its charger and power ... Show

But, Bobby introduces better cut proof resistance against any kind of sharp tools.
Secretly small sized pockets
Small sized pockets are easy to find on common backpacks. Yet, very tiny pockets in this backpack
are totally hard to notice, so users can easily keep their valuables safely here.
Unseen zippers on the small area around the shoulder straps
Those pockets have zippers, yet they are also invisible . Even if a pickpocketer has learned where
the opening bag zippers are, reaching them easily requires such a high, or even an impossible effort.
Shock proof
Just admit that we drop our bags sometimes, by chance. We hate to admit that we regretted for the
rest of our life when our laptop or gadget was cracked. It won t happen again if we are using this
product, thanks to its multiple thick layers for the maximum protection against shocking.
Vast dimension
Who need a strong backpack with very small dimension? What we need is a sturdy, antitheft
backpack with ample storage for our total commuting handiness. It has compartments for laptop,
tablet, water bottle, pens, some smaller ones, as well as hidden pockets on the side and

Tim O Brien s How To Tell A True War Story
The Things They Carried is a book written by Tim O Brien. It features many different stories
from many different people who fought or participated in the Vietnam War. There are two
particular stories, How to Tell a True War Story and Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, that stand
out because they use surrealism. Surrealism is the word to describe what most people may
perceive as unreal . These stories use surrealism by creating elements in the story that almost sound
impossible, but the author insists that they are true. Throughout the story, we are constantly asking
what is real and not real. But, if we use examples from the book, it may be easier to define what is
real and unreal.
How to Tell a True War Story is one of these two stories... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both follow the rules of a true war story, not having morals and not being an uplifting story,
and they sound almost believable. Yet, another rule of telling a true war story is that the story
must be unbelievable in order for it to be true. So, going by this logic, the stories in How to Tell
a True War Story must all be untrue or greatly exaggerated, and the Sweetheart of the Song Tra
Bong is mostly true. The reason for why How to Tell a True War Story is not true is because that
many of the stories, including the story of Curt Lemon and the signing mountains, are just too
believable to be true war stories. Neither of them have a moral, one of the rules for a TRUE war
story is that they must sound unbelievable, and these two stories are much too normal for them to
be a true war story. Although the stories in the chapter How to Tell a True War Story may not be
completely true, they could be a collection of exaggerated stories that the author Tim O Brien heard
about while he was in Vietnam. Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong on the other hand, has all the
elements of a true war story . It does not have an easily discernible moral, isn t uplifting, nor
suggest model of proper human behavior, and is crazy enough to be true. Although some parts
may be exaggerated for effect. For example, the leopard head in the Greenie s hut. It can easily
agreed upon that this story may be an actual war

Evolution Of Photography Research Paper
Campbell, 1
Sierra Campbell
Senior Paper
Photography has many purposes, the main one is to freeze a memory.
Photography, many people have an idea of what it is, it s a picture right? I believe that
photography is much more than just a picture. When taking a photo there is almost always a
purpose, whether it s a family photo or just watching your silly dog hang out the window. In the two
seconds it takes someone to capture the image they are documenting, they are making a memory,
something to look back on. You freeze that moment forever. When you think of a picture, 90% of
Americans think of something that is taken on a camera(Zeke). That s not exactly the case. A
picture is also something that someone draws, either for fun, or to tell a story of something real, or
even fiction. Something as simple as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The very first digital camera to ever be invented was in December 1975, it was invented by kodak.
The engineer whom which created this camera made it possible to capture a picture and be able
to look at the image on your camera within 20 seconds. (Gersman) Over the course of time, many
cameras were invented by many different companies, all cameras were built unique, they were
constructed with different features, but the one thing all cameras had in common is the ability to
capture a memory, to freeze your memories in time. Today the total number of photos/ memories
being captured every two minutes, is more than all the pictures taken in the 1800s combined.
With today s cameras it is so easy to freeze your memories and have them forever to remember. As
of 2016, there has been 25 million cameras documented in the world, that does not include cameras
on cell phones, computers, electronics in general. There are almost as many cell phone
subscriptions (6.8 billion) as there are people in

his father Baba , and two servants: Ali and his son Hassan. At this time in Afghani history, there
was a lot of racism. Hassan and his father are Hazaras, which is an ethnic minority in Afghanistan
that was greatly discriminated against. Amir was not of this group. However, the racism that they
experienced affected both of their lives forever. The life of Amir began to change in 1973. This
was the year that the King of Afghanistan, Mohammad Zahir Shah, was overthrown (The Editors of

Is Society Becoming too Dependent on Computers Essay
The computer has been one of man s most influential inventions, paving the way for greater
achievements with time. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling
everyday tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast
amounts of information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now
ask ourselves, is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or
rather replacing it and hindering our progress? Society has now become dependant on computers.
How does this machineaffect our youth and learning process? We have invented a machine with a
greater, and faster learning capacity as our own. A new generation has risen that have... Show more

Many supporters from this group also point out that the computer can be controlled and that
computers are only as smart as we allow them to be, by themselves computers are quite dependant
machines. Supporters of the anti computer usage group state that computers hinder us more than
they aid us. They believe we have invented a machine with a greater and faster learning capacity
and soon there may be no need for us humans. Our sense of creativity and ingenuity is neither
needed nor utilized as we can easily use a computer application to achieve those once rare results
by that of human ingenuity. The internet through the use of the computer is now a medium for a
number of services, such as online chatting, social sites, and dating. Interactions between humans
have suffered with the use of these services. Those once memorable face to face moments have
been replaced by a few clicks of the keyboard and mouse. There are individuals who cannot
survive without the computer and in its absence suffer from depression and anxiety. In factories
around the world, there are computers doing the jobs of once hard working men and women. This
not only contributes to the unemployment rate, but also puts us in a position where we must
question the need for humans in the work place. Basic daily tasks are now unnecessarily achieved
by the computer and our children are no longer driven to improve on their mental and

Urbanization And Industrialization
It s amazing how many roads have been made, skyscrapers have been thrown up and technology
has been invented in just a hundred years. The transition from agriculture to mass production
know as the industrial revolution has impacted all of our lives from indoor plumbing to
electricity. Industrialization is a process that leads to a significantly increased proportion of a
population engaged in factory work and nonagricultural occupations; it increases the number of
people living near factories and relying on mechanically produced goods and services (Monti et
al. 2015: 191). Industrialization in Western societies brought about about urbanization, the
movement of populations from rural to urban areas; the growth and development and
redevelopment of cities (Monti et al. 2015: 192). The shift to larger effective machines caused
many factories to open up which in turn provided opportunity for people seeking jobs. The jobs
brought in employees and their families, which created a need for more housing. As more and
more people moved near factories, cities became larger and more dense. Many changes occurred as
societies changed from rural and small to large, industrial and urban settings. German sociologist
Ferdinand Tönnies wrote about the changes that took place as societies became urban. Tonnies
wrote that there was a strong sense of community, or Gemeinschaft, is prevalent in traditional, rural
areas. He believed that there was a strong sense of kinship, neighborhood and

  • 2. Crowd Behavior Analysis 35 students involved themselves in the rally. 15 of these students had rated themselves as shy. Eight of those were rated as shy too by their classmates. We therefore had 8 students who we could, almost with conviction, define as shy. This was particularly so since results of the instrument supported this assessment. Special indirect observation was therefore accorded these 8 shy students to see whether or not they lost their personalty, as classical crowd psychology asserted, under influence of the crowd. The rally itself occurred for an hour between the times of 2.00 3.00pm. The excuse was of calling for greater student rights on campus. I chose a topic that we thought students would be particularly interested in. We also chose a time of day where students would not be too tired, nor did they have a heavy workload of classes on that particular day. The march too was outside their campus so students would not have to travel to it. We also attempted to chose a cool day. All these conditions were selected with the intention of excluding any possible confounding elemetn. The students seemed sufficiently motivated. Three of the eight shy students evidenced slightly louder behavior than usual more extroverted with one carrying a banner and the others actually, to some extent, being caught up in the engineered fervor. The others, however, seemed less disinterested with two actually walking away minutes after the rally had started. Four stayed until the end,a nd the one who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Virtual Teaching Hospital Research For the change project, my mentor and I have chosen to discuss one of the topics listed in the Virtual Teaching Hospital. We are going to address the increase in falls on the medical surgical unit. Falls and injuries due to falls is a serious and dangerous problem which can lead to serious injuries, adverse patient outcomes and high costs for hospitals. Falls and fall injuries in hospitals are the most frequently reported adverse event among adults in the inpatient setting. Advancing measurement and improvement around falls prevention in the hospitalis important as falls are a nurse sensitive measure and nurses play a key role in this component of patient care (Quigley White, 2013). Improving the quality of care and patient safety... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other personnel may be included as needed throughout the process. As a team, a plan for implementing the best practices needs to be developed. These practices need to be processes that are based on literature and evidence based research. The first phase of the change process is preparing for the change. This includes defining the strategy that will be used and developing a model for implementation. The second phase is managing change. This phase includes developing change management plans and implementing them. In this phase, it is also vital to train managers and supervisors about the change process, as well as, training the primary caregivers, which include the nurse and assistive personnel. The third and final phase is reinforcing the change. This phase includes collecting feedback, managing resistance, implement corrective actions, and lastly, recognizing and acknowledging success. Because, the change process needs to be a collaborative effort in order to be successful, there are multiple change agents involved in this processes. However, the leader of the change process is the primary change agent. The change agent acts as a catalyst for change. The leader is the person that recognizes that a change is necessary and initiates the process to implement the change. In order to be successful, the change agent needs to have a clear vision of ... • 4. The Importance Of False Confessions Almost any person would at first assume that if another person admitted to a crime, that reasonable doubt is gone, and that person is guilty. They think, Why would anybody innocent admit to a crime they did not commit? Statistically, according to the Innocence Project, a foundation that stands to exonerate the wrongfully convicted, says 23% of people who have been exonerated were in prison for false confessions. It has also been proven that even individuals free of psychological issues and of average intelligence are susceptible to making a false confession under the right interrogationtechnique. False confessions are an important ethical dilemma and any person serving on a jury or being accused of a crime, should be aware of the possibility. Our Rights According to our constitution, the government may not coerce confessions. We as American citizens are given rights that protect us from illegally obtained confessions; the first is the Miranda rights which were established to protect a suspect from unknowingly incriminating themselves and the second is the voluntariness requirement that prevents coerced confessions from reaching the jury. These rules govern the admissibility of a confession into evidence, but do not determine false from true confessions. False Confessions A false confession, by definition is admission to a criminal act, usually accompanied by a narrative of the crime, that that confessor did not commit. • 5. The Jury System Essay The right to trial by jury in the modern times originates from twelfth century England during the reign of King Henry II. This system may originate from an ancient right for an accused to be tried only by the lawful judgment of his equals or by the law of the land (Thomas). In the United States, trial by juryis mentioned in Article Three of the Constitution and the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Amendments. For many people, the jury system seems to be the fairest system and most unbiased way of determining a person s innocence or guilt. The system is to make sure that all receive fair trial despite their race, gender, national origin, religion, political affiliation, or color. Jury service is distinct in being the only form of civic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The grand juries are not only done in private but the proceedings are not for public observation. Petit juries are made up of six to twelve members, while grand juries from sixteen to twenty three. Jurors are selected at random and must be an American citizen. The juror must have also not have any felony charges punishable by imprisonment for more than a year or have been convicted of a felony. Active military members, officers, firemen, and government officials are exempt from jury service. Being summoned also does not guarantee that one will serve for the judge and attorneys will ask a number of questions to determine if the individual is sustainable. In all types of cases, juries must unanimously vote on a verdict except in civil cases where they can be non unanimous. A law not told to jurors is the power of nullification. Knowledge of this law may prevent someone from serving on a jury and the acknowledgement in certain circumstances may get a person arrested. • 6. Religion In The Film Silence The film, Silence, has a myriad of characters that are on a spectrum of religious belief. There are certain characters that show an immense devotion to their faith, willing to risk their life and the lives of others to profess their fidelity to God. Although this film highlights two Jesuit priests, Father Sebastian Rodrigues and Father Francisco Garupe, there is an interesting contrasting devotion from the Inquisition to Buddhism. They have no tolerance for Christianity and believe it to be a cancer that must be cut from Japan. The priests go to great lengths to find a third priest, Father Cristovao Ferreira, who has gone missing while operating as a missionary. Father Ferreira ends up getting captured, recants his faith, and sides with the Inquisition, helping them investigate objects hidden as Christian relics. There are many applicable ideas relating to religious fundamentalismwithin the film. Sigmund Freud and William James differ on the explanation of religious experience. James focuses on religion as feelings and experiences of an individual. For the most part the religious experience is felt instead of a concept. James also believes that religion is not linear or homogenous. There are different perceptions or involvement one has with their faith. A great example of contrasting persons within their religious experiences in the film, Silence, is Father Rodrigues and Yosulu Kubozuka (Kichijiro). • 10. Tobacco In Kentucky History Essay Role of Tobacco in Kentucky History Tobacco existed in Kentucky long before the establishment of the commonwealth Kentucky. Native Americans; such as the Shawnee, utilized tobacco medicinally and ceremonially. European settlers brought it with them to central and, eventually, western Kentucky, and until the late 1920s, Kentucky produced more tobacco than any other state. Kentucky remained the largest burley and dark tobacco producer, and ranked second, in total pounds produced, to North Carolina. Aside from recreational and ceremonial use, some Native American tribes and European Americans remedies involved tobacco, including pain easing salves, fighting labor pains, using smoke for colic and asthma, and chewing to soothe toothaches (Campbell). In 1964, the US Surgeon General released its first report regarding smoking hazards. Later reports offered specific warnings about tobacco use, including heart and ... The government finally dispersed the ATC s monopoly in 1911. During World War I, prices rose with the growing popularity of blended cigarettes, but dropped soon after. Kentucky burley farmers responded with an initially successful Burley Tobacco Growers Co operative Association that was inactive by 1926. Students will have the opportunity to learn and actively practice the life skills they are taught while receiving ample amount of resources. Four of the primary constructs in the health belief model can be depicted by engagement of students in the course. Some people go to the tanning salons and others spend hours outside in the sun to achieve the sun goddess look. Many don t realize the dangers that come with the sun or a box with light bulbs that has more UVA radiation than the sun does. Research has found that tanning beds seems affects more than just the skin. During tanning sessions, exposure UV light seems to elevate people s mood and may be addictive. Those who are addictive are called tanorexia. Beta endorphin is best known for supplying the sense of well being, or a runner s high that accompanies energetic exercise. (Ruscitto) Tanning beds can put people s mood in high spirits. A person, who tans frequently, who tries to stop tanning is hard for them, because when they do, they have symptoms of withdrawal including nausea and jitters. An infrequent tanner experiences no withdrawal symptoms. People who are addictive can t stop, and are speeding straight towards danger. George Washington University was a graduate school where Palermo graduated with B.A. Palermo s article Who Invented the Lightbulb? gave interesting facts about scientists and physicist who desired to succeed in developing the first lightbulb that help light up the world. The articles Who Invented the Lightbulb? contain valuable insights about the history of lightbulb. Long before Edison created his laboratory, many other inventors tried unsuccessfully to invent not just a lightbulb, but the lightbulb that can every efficient and be introduced to world market. • 14. Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those who live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this impact has been negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial tension between blacks and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slaverydid not allow for upward mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian Ocean was not based upon race, and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a sense of upward mobility in the Indian Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic slave trade which involved more brutal treatment based upon race. Today, slavery is known as one of the most inhumane acts of mankind. Slaves were brought over from their countries, mainly from the western and southern coast of Africa, to work for the Europeans without pay. Not only were they without pay, they were brought over in boats, packed on all decks of the ship in such a way that was comparable to a can of sardines. Slaves were taken and shipped to countries in South America and North America, to work on plantations to harvest plants such as, Tobacco, Cotton, Sugarcane, and Indigo. These slaves worked 20 hour days on these plantations and were rewarded with slave quarters which were in most cases in unlivable conditions. Mathematical chaos is instability and unpredictability, often seen in nature due to its sensitivity to the random disturbances that commonly occur. This is known as determinism; previous events heavily influence future events, and small changes eventually lead to larger variations. Philosophically, chaos theoryimplies that everything is connected; our past actions impact our future. Though chaotic evolution is irregular, there are rules behind its apparent disorder that are used to study it. Studying chaos may enrich our lives and help us understand more of our world. When he came back to look at the computer s output, he saw that the second run had diverged partway through and looked completely different (Figure 1), simply because he had inputted a value to three decimal places instead of six. Fig 1: Lorenz s two weather runs. According to the present scientific convention, such a small change of one part in a thousand in initial values should have been inconsequential. Lorenz called this vast change the butterfly effect. He stated that an event so small as the flap of a butterfly s wings could completely alter a system such as the atmosphere. Over a long enough period of time, a much larger event would be affected immense storm that would have happened not happening, or vice versa. However, Lorenz published his paper discussing this phenomenon in a meteorology journal, and consequently, chaos theory was not immediately recognized as a new branch of mathematics. Chaos has an underlying order to it. As PoincarГ© demonstrated, sometimes simple mathematical equations result in much more chaotic outcomes. Disorder can often be found in the behavior of difference equations, which model a quantity at some time. In this iterative process, which is truly deterministic, the value of the term xn+1 is dependent on the value of xn. For example, if we have the simple difference equation 3 , or ... • 16. The Invention Of The Nineteenth Century Essay Student Name: Evans Ohene Djan Course: HIST 125 6980 Prof.: Francis, Keith Two Innovation of the Nineteenth Century When asked what the most important invention is, many questions comes to mind, and these questions must be answered before responding to the initial question. Basically, anything that did not exist previously, whether it is a mechanical device or graphics, literature, or music, is an invention . The eighteenth, nineteenth and the twentieth centuries were met with innumerable of new inventions, technical breakthroughs, and innovations. Steam locomotive, diesel engine and the internet were two of the technological innovations that revolutionized societies in the nineteenth and twentieth century. Invented in England in 1814, Steam locomotive was one of the technological inventions that revolutionized the world. The first full scale locomotive was constructed by Richard Trevithick a British mechanical engineer in 1804 at the Penydarren Ironworks in Wales. Conflict Management Style With Others Conflict Management Style When considering your conflict management style with others, be it; personal or professional, we tend to use the style that seems appropriate to the conflict. Managing conflict is a difficult task that we all face during our life time, but becoming aware of your own characteristic style could help determine why conflicts result exactly the way they do. It helps determine what is a healthy outcome, or not? Each circumstance is different! Interpersonal conflict is very common with many relationships. It occurs when two people can not meet in the middle or agree on a discussion. Cooperation is key to maintaining a healthy debate. More frequently; when dealing with members of your own family, issues arise that include conflict and resolution. During this process our true conflict management style appears out of thin air . (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). Our behavior or conflict style tells a lot about us as humans. It is an important piece of life s puzzles, and how we go about living a healthy life. Our particular path decides where conflict will lead to, or if it could be resolved quickly with everyone feeling content. However, our non verbal behavior could indicate when a person is upset or anoid. This is usually related to unmet needs or goals (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191). From his beginning in the hospital, toward the end during his imprisonment, Baca moves from the mindset of a rebellious teenager to a poetic adult. Through vivid descriptions, metaphors, the appeal to the audiences emotions, and Baca sets up a transformational framework to show how literacy can be a way of escape. Baca s story seeks to explain a point of view that one is more likely to become incarcerated and to struggle in life if he is uneducated. I wrote to sublimate my rage, from a place where all hope is gone, from a madness of having been damaged too much, from a silence of killing rage (Baca). In his writing, Baca uses word pictures to show a side of despair in his life that eventually leads to a positive change where he now has hope. The beginning is filled with scenarios of him working in an emergency room mopping up pools of blood and carting plastic bags stuffed with arms, legs and hands to the outdoor incinerator (Baca), then moves on to detailed descriptions of his times spent incarcerated, and how the detectives treat an intoxicated man. His shrill screams raked my nerves like a hacksaw on bone, the desperate protest of his dignity against their inhumanity. Virginia Woolf expresses her frustration on why women were denied privacy in her novel, A Room of One s Own. People may find Woolf s theories outdated; the statement For genius like Shakespeare s is not born among laboring, uneducated, servile people would be met with controversy if published today (Woolf 46). It is important to remember that Woolf believes that money and personal independence go hand in hand with freedom of thought, and that poverty and its attendant troubles prevent such thought. Regardless of his/her gender, a leader is an individual that possesses the necessary characteristics that will make or break his/her leadership. In her book, The Power of Latino leadership, Juana Bordas offers culture based analysis of leadership. Although her book focuses on Latino culture, I find some of the leadership principles that she offers, relevant in trying to define political leadership. For example, Personalismo (The Character of the Leader) is a leadership principle that explores leaders abilities to connect with people and embody traits that will exemplify trust and respect in relation to their followers (Bordas 2013, 8). At first, the colonial people continued to abide by the same customs that they had back in Europe. As time passed, though, they began to have a different approach. • 39. God s Spirits Of Lust Human Sacrifices Satan s spirits of lust emerge in the pagan gods Baal, Molech, and Chemosh that are all mentioned in the Bible; specifically, their practices often included distorted sexual acts, human sacrifices, cannibalism, and the eating of blood that were distinctively traits of devil worship. Baal worship became abundant throughout much of the ancient Middle East; concurrently, in early societies Baal has a long history of perverted sex that is akin to Pan Worship within his cult rituals. Mount Hermon turned out to be one of the major centers of Baal/Pan worship that involved the brutality of human sacrifices. Baal obtained other god s identity, such as the horned Molech; well known for child sacrifices. The various names and epithets of Baal occurring in the Old Testamentand elsewhere were derived from his various aspects and the localities of his worship. For the majority of people, the cruelty of tormenting and murdering children becomes too devastating, believing that it just could not have happened. On the contrary, the Bible s staunch position states numerous times concerning these killings, and references how the Israelites served the idols of the heathen. In 1870, Sir Charles Warren happened to be exploring in the Lebanon region on the summit of Mount Hermon and found the ruins of a temple believed to belong to Baal. The first branch is the Judicial Branch also known as the court system. The Judicial branch is in place to supply the people with true merits and qualities of laws. There are a number of powers that the judicial branch is liable for such as trying and convicting offenders of the law which includes associates of parliament. Another part of the judicial organization is to understand bylaws and how they relate to the latest state of affairs while also determining the validity to the Constitution. With the previous statement in mind, the judicial branch can also upend a ruling or law if it is found to be in disagreement of the U.S. Constitution. The interaction among the three branches of government in America comes down to checks and balances. Each branch has specific powers, duties, or roles outlined in the Constitution. This report gives explanation of its definition, the reason why Tesco adopted this approach and how it tested impairment under the accounting standard (IAS). Introduction Tesco is one of the biggest retailer in UK which provides food and non food products. However, a ВЈ4.7 billion property impairment results to a loss of ВЈ6.4 billion. Its occurrence is usually at election times or at times when there is a need to resolve a certain conflict involving a political issue or question and during times of revolutions and People Power. • 45. Tim O Brien s How To Tell A True War Story The Things They Carried is a book written by Tim O Brien. It features many different stories from many different people who fought or participated in the Vietnam War. There are two particular stories, How to Tell a True War Story and Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, that stand out because they use surrealism. Surrealism is the word to describe what most people may perceive as unreal . These stories use surrealism by creating elements in the story that almost sound impossible, but the author insists that they are true. Throughout the story, we are constantly asking what is real and not real. But, if we use examples from the book, it may be easier to define what is real and unreal. How to Tell a True War Story is one of these two stories... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They both follow the rules of a true war story, not having morals and not being an uplifting story, and they sound almost believable. Yet, another rule of telling a true war story is that the story must be unbelievable in order for it to be true. So, going by this logic, the stories in How to Tell a True War Story must all be untrue or greatly exaggerated, and the Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong is mostly true. The reason for why How to Tell a True War Story is not true is because that many of the stories, including the story of Curt Lemon and the signing mountains, are just too believable to be true war stories. Neither of them have a moral, one of the rules for a TRUE war story is that they must sound unbelievable, and these two stories are much too normal for them to be a true war story. Although the stories in the chapter How to Tell a True War Story may not be completely true, they could be a collection of exaggerated stories that the author Tim O Brien heard about while he was in Vietnam. Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong on the other hand, has all the elements of a true war story . It does not have an easily discernible moral, isn t uplifting, nor suggest model of proper human behavior, and is crazy enough to be true. Although some parts may be exaggerated for effect. For example, the leopard head in the Greenie s hut. It can easily agreed upon that this story may be an actual war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Urbanization And Industrialization It s amazing how many roads have been made, skyscrapers have been thrown up and technology has been invented in just a hundred years. The transition from agriculture to mass production know as the industrial revolution has impacted all of our lives from indoor plumbing to electricity. Industrialization is a process that leads to a significantly increased proportion of a population engaged in factory work and nonagricultural occupations; it increases the number of people living near factories and relying on mechanically produced goods and services (Monti et al. 2015: 191). Industrialization in Western societies brought about about urbanization, the movement of populations from rural to urban areas; the growth and development and redevelopment of cities (Monti et al. 2015: 192). The shift to larger effective machines caused many factories to open up which in turn provided opportunity for people seeking jobs. The jobs brought in employees and their families, which created a need for more housing. As more and more people moved near factories, cities became larger and more dense. Many changes occurred as societies changed from rural and small to large, industrial and urban settings. German sociologist Ferdinand TГ¶nnies wrote about the changes that took place as societies became urban. Tonnies wrote that there was a strong sense of community, or Gemeinschaft, is prevalent in traditional, rural areas. He believed that there was a strong sense of kinship, neighborhood and ...
