A thermal power station is a power plant in which the prime mover is steam driven. Water is heated, turns into steam and spins a steam turbine which drives an electrical generator. After it passes through the turbine, the steam is condensed in a condenser and recycled to where it was heated; this is known as a Rankine cycle. The greatest variation in the design of thermal power stations is due to the different fossil fuel resources generally used to heat the water. Some prefer to use the term energy center because such facilities convert forms of heat energy into electrical energy.[1] Certain thermal power plants also are designed to produce heat energy for industrial purposes of district heating, or desalination of water, in addition to generating electrical power. Globally, fossil fueled thermal power plants produce a large part of man-made CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, and efforts to reduce these are varied and widespread.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. A thermal power station is a power plant in
which heat energy is converted to electric
power in which the prime mover is steam
drive.
Therefore, many thermal power plants are set
up near coal or oil fields.
What are thermal power plants?

Fossil fuels like coal, oil, natural gases are burnt in
the boiler, a hot flue gases thus generated are used to
heat the feed water.
A superheated steam is generated , this steam under
high pressure then expanded in stem turbine to
rotate the turbine.
Turbine is coupled with the generator. When turbine
rotates, generator also rotates and produces
electricity. This arrangement of coupling turbine and
generator is called turbo-alternator.

Land requirement: The land for the thermal power
plant should be large enough so that the present
installation and future expansion of the plant can be
easily done. Cost and bearing capacity of the land
also plays important role while selecting a site for
thermal power plant.
Water supply: Site should be near to the river so that
water required for the ash disposal, boiler feed
water, cooling and circulating water for condensers
should be available easily.

Fuel supply: Plant should be near to the coal mines,
because cost of transmission of electricity is less than
cost of transportation of fuel.
Ash disposal: Making ash ponds is a part of
installation of the plant. Enough space should be
there for ash ponds and water supply should
available for it.
Transport facilities: For fuel supply – road and
railway links. Located near coal mines because if
quality of coal is poor transportation of coal is costly.

Environment requirement: Thermal power plant
produces lot of pollution. Ash ponds may produce
water and air pollution, smoke from chimneys
produces air pollution. To avoid affects of pollution
site should be far from populated area.

Advantages:
1. Fuel cost of thermal power plant is relatively low.
2. We can produce thermal energy almost every where in the
world.
3. Heat production System is simple compared to other system.
4. Overall system cost effective.
5. Easy mechanism.
6. Same heat could be reused.
7. Easier Maintenance of power station.
8. Use of water is prominent here, therefore, any places with
ample supply of water is a perfect location for installing a
thermal power station.
9. Thermal power plant requires comparatively small space to
be installed.

8. Disadvantages:
1. Huge production of Carbon-di-oxide (CO2) in the atmosphere.
2. Exhausted gases harms outside environment badly.
3. Low overall efficiency.
4. Thermal engines requires huge amount of lubricating oil that is
very expensive.
5. Nuclear thermal power plant demands excessive amount of
water for cooling purpose.
6. Coal type thermal power plant requires comparatively larger
duration before it supply generated power to the grid.
7. This type of power station ultimately responsible for raise in sea
water level.
