So many of us get caught up with the numbers of Likes, how many followers we have on twitter and what about all those connections on LinkedIn. BUT, social media is more than a numbers platform. It is about brand awareness, great content, good imagery, authenticity, planning and communicating effectively.
Thankyou for having me.. Give an overview of why I am in social media.
Can I have a show of hand those who have a social media presence.
Those who are active monthly
Weekly, Daily
Hourly?
Who is on Facebook
Who Tweets
Who is on LInkedIn.. Google +?
Maybe there are some of you who up to now have wanted to bury their head in the sand, or may even now still want to bury your head in the sand
So I am hoping that some of you have adopted the idea and are running with it? But maybe not sure which lane you are running in or where you are running to perhaps, or even why you are even doing so.
Social media must begin with a plan, That plan then needs to focus on :
Why do you want to use social media…. What is your Purpose…. When you find the answer to that then you need to look at Which Platform should you be using. And then When should you be being social ….. Can I tell you – social media is not a “selling platform. It is about building relationships, so that when people are ready to buy, purchase or use your service, the relationship is there and you have built up trust and credibility…… because – people will do business with those like trust and have a relationship with.
From the Plan once you have that in place, then you need a clearly defined strategy.
That strategy needs to be How….
How many times do I post a status update eg..
What status update do I post…. Entertain, engage, & educate.
When is the best days to do the status updates
Should I be posting on sat & sundays or evenings or mornings
Throw to next slide…..
Because with a plan and then a strategy – it is just
Because with a plan and then a strategy – it is just ……
So really I chose to speak on the fact that there is more to just have lots of likers, followers and connections. … A lot of business people just want Likes.. But it’s a bit like having a lot of acquaintances and knowing lots of people names and you label them friends, but when you invite these people to a party, they don’t turn up… why because they don’t really know you… you haven’t never really spoken to them and you haven't built up[ trust with them to know that you are not an axe murdered and it is OK for them to come to your party. .
So on social media you content needs to be GOOD content. IT needs to be something that people want to read, find out about… no they don’t want to know you have just had a shower and are going to bed to read a good book etc… They want to know what is in it for them.. They want to know some hints, tips, educate them on what it is you actually do. You know what it is, but your audience may not know.
There is a lot of competition on social now.. So you need to stand out from the crowd, and there are some great ways to do this. Imagery is one very good one, video.. Good video .. 30seconds to capture attention… good quality video as well. There are some great tools out there that can help you with this, so you don’t have to do it alone.
With social media it is not just about having a great cover image or a great LinkedIn profile.. You need to be making connections, interacting all of the time.. Again there are some great tools for this to help you. This needs to be part of your strategic marketing plan…
Above all be you.. Be your brand, IT is great to emulate others, but bring your brand personality into your interactions and conversations on social media.
Gone are the days of old marketing… People research before they purchase, they make sure that they are
Getting the best deal for their buck
Are dealing with reputable company
Can do what it is that business says it can do.
The days of getting three quotes for a job are just about done… they have already researched beforehand..
So leading on from that your customer service needs to be “spot ON” If it’s not then those people you have not served well, will let other know really quickly
so if someone contacts you on a social platform, you need to be vigilant and onto straight away.
