Essay On Working At Old Navy
Since my last reflection I have worked 9 at Old Navy. I have continued to work on registers
mostly however, at one point, my manger asked me to cover fitting rooms for someone s 15
minute break. I was excited that I could try a new job. I had to develop new skills to undertake
this new challenge of working the fitting rooms. One of my co workers showed me the ropes.
The job basically consisted of telling people which dressing room to go in, unlocking the door
with a key, placing a marker on the door, and taking back the clothes that the costumers don t
want and folding them. I enjoyed this job a lot actually and I hope my manger will put me in
fitting rooms for a whole shift one day. Old Navy does a lot for the community. Old Navy goes to

Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death Essay
Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death
Neil Postman is deeply worried about what technology can do to a culture or, more importantly,
what technology can undo in a culture. In the case of television, Postman believes that, by happily
surrendering ourselves to it, Americans are losing the ability to conduct and participate in
meaningful, rational public discourse and public affairs. Or, to put it another way, TV is undoing
public discourse and, as the title of his book Amusing Ourselves to Death suggests, we are willing
accomplices.
Postman bases his argument on the belief that public discourse in America, when governed by the
epistemology of the printing press, was generally coherent, serious, and rational (16) because ...

Postman says that, as a result, all public understanding of these subjects is shaped by the biases of
television (78) and that in the absence of rational discourse, cultural decay is sure to follow.
In an effort to expose the epistemology of television, which Postman believes has not been
effectively addressed, he examines the effects of TV on several important American cultural
institutions: news, religion, politics and education. All four institutions, Postman argues, have
realized that they have to go on television in order to be noticed which, in turn, requires them to
learn the language of TV if they are to reach the people. Therefore, they have joined the national
conversation not on their own terms, but on TV s terms. Postman contends that this transformation
of our major institutions has trivialized what is most important about them and turned our culture
into one vast arena for show business (80). In the case of broadcast news, we see visually
stimulating, disconnected stories about murder and mayhem along with a healthy dose of
infotainment delivered by friendly and likeable anchors that remind us to tune in tomorrow . In the
case of politics, we have discourse through distorted paid TV commercials and debates in which the
appearance of having said something important is

Multicultural Empires
Multicultural Empires and the New World
The Seljuks were pressuring the Byzantine Empire the second half eleventh century. Much to their
demise the Byzantimes challenged the Turks in 1071, in modern day eastern Turkey (then
Manzikert). The Turks now had control over most of the Anatolian Peninsula. The Byzantine empire
went to the west for assistance out of desperation. Western European Christians wanted to stop the
spread of Islam and take back the Holy Land, located in the Eastern Mediterranean. They followed
the words of Pope Urban II plea to go to war against Muslim forces. He stated, it was God s will.
The Pope was able to convince these men to ride horses or walk to a far away part of the world to
fight. Many of these crusaders never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Matrix Reality
The Matrix film describes a future in which reality perceived by humans is actually the Matrix: a
simulated reality. Thomas A. Anderson is a man carrying on with a twofold life. One, working for
a software company. Two, a hacker that is known as Neo. The disclosure comes in that the world
Neobelieved was genuine was real, is actually the Matrix, a PC program created by machines with a
specific end goal to utilize people as batteries. Neo is instructed by Morpheus, (A man Neo has been
frantically attempting to discover in his present reality) to learn how to control the Matrix.
Morpheus feels Neo is the divinely selected individual The One , the person who will set
everybody free from the Matrix. Neo, alongside every other person required in these missions, is

This identifies with Neo, he settles on different decisions all through the film. For instance, in
scene 8, Neo settles on the decision to retreat and spare Morpheus from the agents who are
tormenting him to subsequently execute him. He has faith in himself, in this manner, it is his
motivation and purpose. In scene 6, the Oracle lets him know that he needed to settle on the
decision, to either spare his life, or Morpheus. However, in scene 8, the audience can clearly see
that the choice is neither, which Jean Paul Sartre once said: That making no choice, is still a
choice. In scene 8, he is on top of the elevator with Trinity about to make the choice to shoot the
wire and sling him up to the top floor where Morpheus is on. At that point, he reviews a quote
from prior in his day that was said to him, There is no spoon, intending to be receptive when
trusting he can shoot the elevator to go up to therefore, spare Morpheus, his entire

Online Banking And Its Impact On The United States
Introduction:
Since the 1980 s, online banking has made the lives of everyday people more convenient. With the
new innovations and creations to computers, online banking has grown to become the most used
form of banking in the US (5). From the first ATM to mobile banking technology has helped shape
One of the first computerized innovations to online banking, the credit card, revolutionized how
cash was money was used in society.
1950 1960 s:
During the 1950 a man named Frank X. McNamara, was sitting at dinner when he realized he had
left the house without cash. After having to call his wife to bring him some, he vowed to create
something to solve this problem. That same year McNamara and his friends started the first credit

1970 s 1980 s:
About 20 years later in 1981, a few New York City banks including, Citibank and Chase Manhattan,
introduced the first form of online banking to the US. The first service allowed customers to send
transfers and bills by connecting the TV set and telephone line (7). While this is different than what
we think of as traditional online banking, this was the cornerstone to what online banking has
become today.
1990 1995:
After a long absence of innovations to online banking, Stanford Credit Union was the first financial
institution to offer online banking to all of its customers in 1994(7). This was important for online
banking because it set a standard that helped get more financial institutions on board with online
banking. That same year, online banking was built into Microsoft s money personal finance sloppy
disc software. Over 100,000 began accessing online banking using this device (5).
1996 2000:
By the mid 1990 s most of the major banks now offered online Bill Pay to all of its customers for a
small monthly fee (6). By this time, online banking has begun to grow rapidly, along with the
concerns for customer security. Like with many changing technologies, many customers of online
banking become skeptical of how well the technology could protect them. With growing concerns
from customers, banks began increasing their security with online accounts (7).

In 2001, it was reported that eight US banks now have at least one

The Six Thinking Hats Theory
Edward De bono is a man nominated for the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2005, and is
considered as a leading examples in the area of creative thinking and innovation. He is the proud
author of the six thinking hats. His six thinking hats theory is widely used in many organizations
such as IBM, Prudential, GM, BT and Nokia. His methods are now a mandatory schools in many
countries. The six thinking hatsare white, yellow, black, and red, blue, green
The white hat is based on facts and calls on facts and nothing less. A business person or even a
student is recommended to be on the white thinking hat when dealing with something factual and
straightforward. For a person who is on a white thinking hat will only look through the facts and
figures and concludes based on that findings. For example, a business man who is looking through
figures and data on a factsheet, will come up with a conclusion or decision based on that only and
will not compromise for any other discussion. The advantage of being on white thinking hat is that

effort in the team to find any possible ways to list the issues and will work fast to think of a way

Virtual Organization Behavior
Virtual Organization Characteristics
From the definitions of virtual organization/team, it can be summarized that virtual organization
/team has four main characteristics which make it different from non virtual organization/team:
First, cross line, virtual organization/team is centralized with a few or without department.
Business environment change makes a company or organization should be more flexible in doing
its activity. When a company should produce a high quality product to meet their consumer needs,
they could collaborate with other companies to determine consumer needs. In this case, virtual
organization/team has an important role.
Second, resources and purpose sharing, virtual organization/team could facilitate someone with
innovative idea but has not enough resources. Amazon sells a lot of books but they do not really
have the books, they cooperate with other parties who have the books and then sell it via Amazon.
Third, geographic dispersion, refer to any physical dispersion of team members, such as different
geographic locations or different workplaces at the same geographic location, nationally or
internationally. Virtual organization/team could maximize the time difference advantage from its
member. When a US company develops a website they can work on it from morning to evening,
and their partner in the other part of the world (Asia, Africa, or Europe) will continue the
development so it could finished faster.
Fourth, impermanent member, one team formed

Introduction
The U.S Secret Service is among the constituents of the department of Homeland Security. It was
originally part U.S Department of Treasury (Reese, 2009). The agency was mainly formed to fight
the production of counterfeit money which had affected nearly a third of the country s population.
Its responsibilities eventually increased after financial crimes increased and political leaders
became a target for assassination. The agency constitutes of two sections namely: the special agent
and the uniformed sections. The main duty of the uniformed section is to guard and protect the

Investigative mission
At the end of World War II, currency counterfeiting activities began. This led to the launching of the
secret service so as to deal with these counterfeiting activities. The nation s infrastructure was later
on attacked when these illegal activities expanded more crimes, among counterfeiting, such as
commercial, personality theft and computer based fraud and attacks. These investigations are done
with the help of forensic personnel who scrutinizes evidence (Reese, 2009).
Protection
Its protective mission began in the 1890 s when assassination became a national threat, after the
president was assassinated. It ensures that the government officials of the high rank and their
immediate members of their relations are protected. This extended to the presidential political
candidates and those elected. The U S secret service secured surroundings using specialized
resources to decrease the dangers and susceptibilities. These resources among others included
counter sniper, emergency response team and integration of various technologies and inspired

Why OB GYN are at risk of lawsuit in USA Women s health specialists remains top in the medical
profession. However, OB GYN practitioners are at a high risk of malpractice lawsuits. In fact, a
study carried out by Medscape indicate that in every 4000 primary care physicians, more than half
of them have found themselves in one or more malpractice cases in their career. The study further
shows that one third of the cases were either due to wrongful accusations or wrong diagnoses with
another one third due to injuries caused during treatment. Others include wrongly documenting

that the team performing the surgery has all they need in the room to avoid frequent opening of
the doors. When operating room doors are frequently opened, it makes it difficult for ventilation
systems to keep air borne contaminants out which can cause infections to the patients wounds
while being operated on. The other thing they can do is to always stay ahead of the game with
the latest training and information. OB GYNS should take every opportunity that arises by
attending lessons and training that will help reduce the earlier mentioned risks. They should also
not shy away from taking the OB GYN board review. Some of these lawsuits are pretty bad that
it forces some to stop their practices or simply move to another state to continue with their work.
About 12% of Ob GYNs have actually been found to leave this to become salaried employees

Reflection On Education
I ve been able to connect my civic engagement work with our discussions in prosem mostly through
our conversations about education and the intersection of immigration and education. All of the
kids I worked with at Moder Patshala were either immigrants themselves, or were the children of
newly arrived immigrants, and with that, they were low income and/or first generation students in
the US. This highly overlaps with the presentations we did on education: one intersecting with low
income students and the other with English language learners. From these discussions, I ve been
able to develop how to better support the students I worked with who were still learning English.
The conversations around certain classroom situations and how you should react were really
interesting and got me thinking about my strategies for supporting the students I worked with,
which was beneficial for my work, the students education, and our relationship. A lot of times
when there is a language barrier, a student will get very frustrated and I was able to think critically
about how to more visibility show my patience and encourage the student through the process. In
terms of FGLI students, I had never really thought about the importance in verbalizing that I was a
FGLI student too. I had always tried to not mention the fact I was from Penn, because I didn t want
there to be this power dynamic between the student and I and also between me and the tutors from
other schools. But I learned that

Vans Anti Smoking Apparel Advertisement
The term advertising, the peaking of one s interest about a product or service offered, has been
used since the 1500s. For over five hundred years, companies and inventors have been influencing
consumers to buy or invest in their products through advertisements. These ads can come in all
types, shapes, and sizes. They can range from radio, print, television, web, or even advertisements
by word of mouth. The idea of advertising can be complicated to understand, but why ads need to
be used is very simple. Advertisements tell people what is out there to buy.

The Texas Revolution Essay
The Texas Revolution
By Jessica Bouillon
Texas History
The Texas Revolution was a key point in our nation s history and in the history of the state of
Texas. For, if Texas had not revolted the way that they did, it would probably not have become a
state. There are many causes that are speculated on why Texasrevolted whether they are political
disputes against the Centralist party in Mexico that had primary control at the time of the
Revolution. These and more will be explored. Also, there are key battles in the Texas Revolution
that decided the final fate of Texas, none more famous than the famous Battle of San Jacinto and
The Alamo.
The most popular, speculated cause of the Texas Revolution is that Texas was following in the...

Still another speculated cause for the revolution in Texas was economics. There were many land
speculators that were also U.S. migrants to Texas that were intent on making money from selling
land. They had speculators in Texas, and Coahuila and financial centers in New York and
Philadelphia. The speculators would speculate how much a piece of land was worth then sell it and
turn the profits over to a financial center and make a tremendous profit from it.
Yet another reason why Texans might have revolted was that they were trying to preserve and
maintain the political values and economic gain while under the Constitution of 1824. It gave
Texas a steady population flow of American migrants moving onto Texas soil. It also gave them
political liberty, freedom to own slaves and a steady economic progression. But Antonio Lopez de
Santa Anna, president of Mexico, wished to impose a stricter rule which could also explain why
Texas felt the need to separate from Mexico.
Another speculated cause was that the Anglo Americans that lived there refused to conform to the
Mexican rules and laws. Most were protestant and therefore refused to convert to Catholicism. They
also refused to pay their duties to the government and did not support troop

Conflict And Conflict In The Bottom Billion By John Collier
In The Bottom Billion by Collier, he persuasively explains the reasons unindustrialized countries
are developing at low rates. In addition, Collier proposes policies in an effort to get away from the
sluggishness. Even though Collier has emphasized on the geopolitical affairs in the developing
countries, there are shortcomings in his highlights. Collier does not take into account the historical
context of those countries. Collier too does not take into consideration the role of Western countries
in those four traps and the gaps in the available statistics about the poor countries. It is evident that
Collier utilizes information from discussions he had with African leaders rather than taking a
broader view of other people who have had experiences in those countries. Nonetheless, Collier has
presented a strong piece in his book The Bottom Billion.Collier also outlines four traps that are the
cause of the stagnation of the poorest countries, which include; increased conflict, the supply of
natural resources, and the characteristic of being landlocked, and poor governance.
Notably, conflict is the first trap cited by Collier. Increased conflict can be attributed to civil wars
in Africa. Thus, conflict impedes growth due to the costs associated with the civil wars. A
significant percentage of the citizens of the poorest countries have experienced civil wars. Collier
recommends the use of military forces to intervene in civil wars and restore order within those
countries.

Fidel Castro Influence On Cuban Car Culture
Imagine a world without spare parts, without updated manuals, and without new cars. Instead of
your parents handing down cloths, dishes, and silverware to you they give you a car that s been

granted. If something makes a funny sound, starts smelling, or breaks; people generally take the
car to a mechanic or order the parts and put them on themselves. The people of Cuba don t have
such luxury. The automotive culture between Cuba and the US has grown vastly different over

Social Justice. Generalist social workers should engage in macro practice when possible to
promote social and economic justice. All families should have access to the resources and

This theory also incorporates the way the subsystems keep everything flowing and in a state of
equilibrium. GST deals with the relationships, roles, boundaries and the flow of information
between people (Barker, 1999). To understand the dynamic at work in the Grape family we must
look at it from the model of the Family Systems Theory (FST). FST falls under the General
Systems theory as a subsystem. Until Arnie climbs the water tower and is arrested, the family was
in a state of equilibrium. Once Bonnie leaves to go to the police station, the dynamic of the
household changes.
The Family Systems Theory. introduced by Dr. Murray Bowen refers to treating the family as a
unit, instead of only treating the individual. Dr. Bowen theorized that a client cannot be separated
from their family system when evaluated. This concept was born out of the General Systems
Theory (GST) that Social Workers employ (Helm, 2014). To assist the Grape family toward
rebuilding their family as a healthy, functioning unit. A plan must be implemented that involves the
entire family. It could include family therapy, individual therapy, and Respite care for overwhelmed
members.

families, communities and society as a whole. These approaches and techniques can be varied

Self Identity In Initiation And Borders
Self identity is the understanding a person has of themselves. The more certain we are of our self
identify, the more likely we will stick with our beliefs and values and not conform. While
individuals often feel obligated to conform to the expectations of society, those that are confident
can overcome these pressures, leading to the findings of one s identity. Obtaining confidence is a
process individuals undergo, once achieved an individual can decide to believe in themselves. The
stories Initiation and Borders support the belief that selfconfident individuals are independent,
optimistic, accepting, and self aware of their abilities. Some may argue that confident individuals
conform to the ways of society. However, it is evident that people with a strong sense of
confidence live according to their values and beliefs rather than conforming. In Borders the
manager of the duty free shop, Mel, had told the mother and her son: justice was a hard thing to
get, but that we shouldn t give up (King 55). Granted, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Both stories Initiation and Borders identify characters that have accepted themselves for who
they are. The mother in Borders accepts who she is regardless of others. The son explains: It
would have been easier if my mother had just said Canadian and been done with it, but I could
see she wasn t going to do that (King 49). The mother reveals her pride and acceptance she is not
ashamed of her identity. Correspondingly, in Initiation the author uses heather birds to symbolize
freedom and acceptance as they are all unique. Millicent expresses herself as a heather bird hence,
they are free and accept themselves for who they are. Millicent remains true to her identity: Within
Millicent another melody soared, strong and exuberant ... heather birds that sang so clear (Plath 7).
The quote reveals that Millicent is clear of her identity because she accepts

Orpheus And Eurydice In Boethius The Consolation Of...
In Boethius The Consolation of Philosophy, he provides in the twelfth poem of his third book, a
summary of the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. He utilizes the tale to showcase a parallel
between their tragic love and the Christian s relationship with God.
Orpheus yearning for his deceased wife is similar to the strong belief a Christian has for God.
Considering Boethius, and others of his time, viewed God as the embodiment of goodness, the
beginning lines of his poem, Happy, the one who can see/ the clear source of good,/ happy, the
one who can release/ the chains of heavy earth can represent a Christian (Boethius lines 1 4). The
person who is happy is the believer because they can see the source of good which indicate God.
Similarly, the release from earth also implies the necessity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although it is Hades who challenges Orpheus, it can be argued Eurydice sends her lover to hell for
his failure. As stated in the poem, he looked, lost, fell (line 51). He loses Eurydice because he
fails to trust in the person who is behind him and disobeys the order given to him. The moral
message and final line given in this poem is essentially a rewording of the previously cited line,
one loses when one sees the lower worlds (line 58). Yet, there does exist a small difference
between the two lines, in which the final message claims seeing the lower worlds suggest failure.
This line would suggest seeing Eurydice therefore equates to seeing the lower worlds or, in other
words, Hell. Moreover, the reason why Orpheus fails is because of his growing distrust. His
inability to believe Eurydice is behind him parallels the idea of a believer doubting in their God.
Sinners or those who go against God are punished, and to teach Christians, Boethius demonstrates
Orpheus punishment for disobeying the action required of

[C]Ross purchased the Dolphins in 2009, and since then, they have made the playoffs a grand

Women In The Handmaid s Tale
The display of a dystopian society is distinctively shown in The Handmaid s Tale, by Margaret
Atwood. Featuring the Republic of Gilead, women are categorized by their differing statuses and
readers get an insight into this twisted society through the lenses of the narrator; Offred.
Categorized as a handmaid, Offred s sole purpose in living is to simply and continuously play the
role of a child bearing vessel. That being the case, there is a persistent notion that is relatively
brought up by those leading the Gileadean regime; women have gained more than they have lost.
Yet, this is a clearly distorted idea being that women in this society are excessively restricted from
freedom. Women are restricted to the freedoms that they once had.... Show more content on

Handmaids are no longer able to identify with the name they had lived by throughout their
lifetimes. In a sense, this was also the erasure of their previous past and who they used to be. To
hear the names of others, handmaids learn discrete ways to communicate with one another. We
learned to lip read...watching each other s mouths. In this way, we exchanged names, from bed
to bed. Alma. Janine. Dolores. Moira. June. (4) Ultimately, this exhibits the desperation of
women to preserve the aspects of their lives before the creation of the new society. In a way, it
serves as a reminder that they were once someone and it s a way of reliving their past. Women
no longer have the privilege of even choosing their own name of whom they want to be identify
as. From my understanding, women do not have a choice but to forget their past as it was a
taboo, along with their previous name. Freedom was once a familiar ideal but the Republic of
Gilead has normalized the notion in which women are restricted and watched of their every
movement. It is a common move, as noted in history, to resist the education of the oppressed.
Applying this idea to the Gilead society, women were restricted from reading to halt their need for
education. They decided that even the names of shops were too much temptation for us. Now
places are known by their signs alone. (25) This extreme method of suppression reveals the true
intentions of the oppressors. In what way does this protect women? It

Apple s Iphone 5 Personal Evaluation
Apple s iPhone 5 Personal Evaluation Personal research and evaluations are excellent ways to
discover pertinent information about a product that a consumer wishes to purchase. In addition,
reviews come from multiple sources: experts or consumers, both play an important role to the
consumer and are thought to be valued resources. In fact, reviews and information are easier to
acquire due to the modern technology and increased use of the internet among consumers. Reviews
and research help consumers to decide whether or not they are going to purchase a specific
product, such as Apple s iPhone5s or the 5c, by providing information and specifications. When
comparing consumer reviews along with personal knowledge about the Apple iPhone 5 to expert
reviews based on design, software, and functionally, it is clear that personal evaluations are the
best, as they are first hand knowledge. This consumer has often considered purchasing Apple s

There is a growing sentiment that nationalist and conservative political parties are increasing in

The use of social media from the left and right are noticeably different. Brooker and Barnett

Research Paper On Thermohaline Circulation
According to Green facts the Thermohaline Circulation (THC) is the Large scale density driven
circulation in the ocean, caused by differences in temperature and salinity. The oceans water has
different salt contents and different temperatures in different areas. The colder water which is
cooled at the poles is denser so will sink below the warmer water which is less dense.
Surrounding water then moves in to fill the gap as the colder water sinks, this water is then also
cooled and will itself begin to sink this creates the current. Cooler water is usually found at the
poles because as sea ice forms the salt content of the ocean increases, because freshwater is taken
away when the ice forms. The THC circulates the globe in a long continuous circle. However if
the density or salt content of water is changed then it can potentially shut off the THC, if water
becomes less saline then it won t be as dense so may not sink and rise in the same way. One way
scientists believe it could be shut off is if glaciers and ice caps melt, this would add a huge amount
of freshwater into our oceans causing it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and glaciers by melting the floating ice from below. If the air temperatures increase then the ice
will begin to melt from above, creating pools of melted water that will in turn melt more of the
surrounding ice. This may not always result in a problem as it s expected that ice sheets reduce in
size in the summer months but recently what has been found is that less ice is formed during
winter so in total the ice sheets and glaciers are being reduced in size, adding more and more fresh

Franchising Benefits And Strategies Of Franchising
Franchising It is said that today there is a total of 750,000 franchise establishments within the U.S.
itself. Franchising is a long term agreement between two parties, and is when the franchisor grants
the franchisee the right to use a trademark or trade name in a business process. In a franchise
agreement the franchisee would in most cases purchase or lease the trademark or logo from the
franchisor. Within this transaction the franchisee also pays its franchisor sales revenue or royalty
fees. In return, the franchisee receives detailed and structured tactics, describing the process of how
the business is run. These tactics include promotion, hiring and training employees, upgrading
product or service, as well as maintaining design or dГ©cor (What is Franchising).
It is common for people to think of franchising as an industry, and although it can be considered
to be an industry, it can also be seen as a business model . Dr. Vinay Garg, a professor at Missouri
State University took time researching franchising benefits and strategies. Garg has studied and
surveyed over 1000 franchise businesses. He found that franchising could be a great opportunity
for any individual to become an entrepreneur by starting his or her own business. Since franchisors
such as McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts is well known to the public, the franchisee will find it less
difficult to bring in customers (Mostyn).

Bottle Rocket Lab
Introduction The purpose of this lab is to show how the quantity of wings effects the height a 2
oz. bottle rocket launches into the air. The wings have a vital effect on the flight of the rocket. The
fins keep the rocket stabilized and going in the right direction. The way that the fins do this is the
same way that the feathers on an arrow keep it flying straight. The increased dragon the back end of
the fuselage of the rocket, keeps the back end in the back.
Experimental Design
Will the number of fins effect how height the rocket flies into the air?
The independent variable is the number of wings
The dependent variable is how high the rocket flies
The control is the blank rocket launched by Mrs. Still
Hypothesis
If the number of fins stays at 3 (an average number) then the rocket will fly to its ideal height,
because too many fins would be too much drag on the back of the rocket, while too few would not
be enough to keep the rocket balanced.
Test Materials

3 3 x5 fins
4.5 x8 tall, cone shaped capsule

Essay on The Evolution of the Art of War between 1400 and...
It can be said that the period of time between 1400 and 1600 was one of transformation. The
Renaissance revolutionized art and reintroduced Greek and Roman works to Europe. Increased
technologies and a hunger for products from the Indies led to Columbus s discovery of the
Americas in 1492 which revolutionized commerce and international trade. In 1517 a German monk
named Martin Luther listed a series of complaints against the Roman church leading to a
reformation that transformed the western church. At the same time a more obscure, though equally
important revolution was taking place, one whose effects were no less significant. The invasion of

The first area of significant area of change during the fifteenth century was that of field combat.
The armies of the medieval era were built around heavy armored cavalry, especially the knight.
During this time the development of infantry was largely ignored in favor of the more heavily
armored cavalry, and as a result foot soldiers were generally ineffective in combat. Infantry in this
period generally consisted of poorly trained and equipped peasants. Though reasonably effective
the reliance on cavalry had several drawbacks, most notably the cost. In order for a knight to be
effective he required the latest armor and a horse capable of supporting both the armored knight and
carrying its own armor while still being mobile enough to function in battle. Knights also required
training which took both time and money. Because the cavalry consisted mostly of knights who
were part of the nobility, they were often reluctant to fight, creating difficulties in raising armies of
sufficient size when the need arose. Another noteworthy problem with the knights was that their
primary tactic of charging the enemy lines often made it easy to led them into traps. At the battle of

Analyse Team Norms
3 Analyse the effect group norms may have on team development
Team norms are a set of rules or guidelines that a team establishes to shape the interaction of team
members with each other and with employees who are external to the team. Team norms can be

additional guidelines.
Once developed, team norms are used to guide team member behaviour. Team norms are used to
assess how well team members are interacting. Team norms enable team members to call each other

Creon Is The Tragic Hero In SophoclesAntigone
Since a tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his
/her own destruction, then Creon is the tragic hero in the play Antigone. In the play Antigone ,
Sophocles at first portrays Creon as a just leader. He has good, rational reasons for his laws and
punishments. By the end of the play Creons hubris, or excessive pride, has taken over him, which
leads to his demise This started by two brothers leading opposite sides in Thebes civil war died
fighting each other for the throne. Which were Polyneices and Eteocles. Creon, the new ruler of
Thebes, has decided that Eteocles will be honored and his body will be sanctified by holy rites,
and will be buried, and Polyneices will be in public shame and will left unburied. Antigone
(Eteocles /Polyneices sister) wants to bury Polyneices body. But, Creon has stated if anybody
was to due so he would have them killed. First off, his strong sense of leadership which catches
up with him in the end causing destruction. Creon orders the guards to take Antigone away not
caring for his son s feelings, since she is his fiancГ©e. Creon feels the law should stand despite
the fact that Antigone was his niece or how moral her act was. Bring her [Antigone] out! Let her
die before his eyes... (Scene 3, 130). This quotes shows that Creon took his position as king
seriously to the point where in he was willing to sacrifice the feelings of his own son. He was
willing to be the cause of son s destruction just to prove that he is the king and always right. I will
go... I buried her, I will set her free (scene 5, 102,104). Not only does this quote show leadership
but also stubbornness he was risking his relationship with his son to prove that he was the leader
of Thebes. Creon says another quote which shows his loyalty to his kingdom, I call to God to
witness that if I saw my country headed for ruin, I should not be afraid to speak out plainly,
(Sophocles, scene 1,24 26). Creon s tragic flaw, is he was hubris, which is another reason that
causes his downfall. Creon will not listen to anyone. He is stubborn and his pride is so great, he
can not bring himself to acknowledge that he could ever wrong. When Creon is talking to Teiresias,

The Classical Film Grease Essay
Watch the classical film Grease and one can understand how relationships function in Western
Society. The film tells a story of a boy (Danny) and a girl (Sandy) who falls in love. Through a
series of misunderstandings they break up, but still somehow care for each other. Through
ballads such as Summer Night s that are still popular today, the film shows how differently
males and females view relationships. Films like Grease are like a mirror, reflecting societal
values and how it socializes its members. It makes it clear that in relationships, males are

It also effects how society socializes its members. Males despite having the innate behaviors and

Grandpa Joe Character Analysis
New Character Grandpa Joe
My character, Grandpa Joe, is 98 years old, and he loves to share stories about what life used to be
like in the good old days.
Humanist Approach
Mother: Memorization of poetry is really important; you never, when it will come up again.
Grandpa Joe: You know, kids, your mom is right. You never know when you might need to use
any of this valuable knowledge you are learning in school. Make sure you pay lots of attention
and absorb as much as you can. Now, that I think about it... I remember this one time when I was
at a trivia game, and the final question was precisely a line from the The Road Not Taken poem.
Thanks to the efforts of my teachers and all the time we spent reciting the classics, I was able to
answer the question correctly. That night, I took the boys out to celebrate. Oh, what fun we had!
Social Efficiency Approach
Mother: Interesting isn t enough to take a [class]... After all, what would you use it for in the real
world? You go to school to get a job.
Grandpa Joe: I remember the summer before my freshman year in high school, I was anxiously
waiting for my placement test results. These scores were one of the most important news I would
receive in those days, since it would determine my career path. It was then that I learned that
business was a great career for me, and look at the benefits that choosing that path had for our
family. Now, your dad is the boss of the small company I built many years ago.
Child Centered Approach
Mother: I am so glad that your teacher is using Dewey s view in education, and making sure that
your interests, views, desires, and interests are being taken into account, so that your social,
physical, and intellectual needs are being met.
Grandpa Joe: Wow kids, it s reassuring to see that teachers are still putting the student foremost

Factors And Social Class In Great Expectations By Charles...
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is a novel set in the Victorian Era, based around the
growth and development of a boy named Phillip Pirrip; nicknamed Pip. From convicts to
lawyers, Dickens makes multiple references, throughout the novel, about social classes and the
impacts they have on Pip s life as he grows up. At age eight, Pip is introduced to Miss. Havisham
and Estella, who are both of upper class. Upon the introduction of social classes into Pip s life,
Pip s view of those surrounding him changes, arguably for the worst. One theme present
throughout the story is that being loyal and kindhearted overweights social classes. Based on
the development of Pip through the story, it can be concluded that social classes played a large
part in constructing who Pip later becomes. From the lowest class, convicts and orphans, to the
working class, Joe and Biddy, and finally reaching the wealthy, Miss. Havisham; with each
individual he meets, Dickens makes it a point to show how Pip slowly loses his virtues in his
search of gentility. As an orphan living with his sister and her husband, the town blacksmith, Pip
is shown as someone of a lower class. Even through the death of his parents, being beat by his
sister on a regular basis, and the negative reinforcement he constantly receives from his relative:
Pip is still portrayed as a child full of innocence. Joe is introduced as one, if not the only, positive
thing in Pip s life. In the story, Pip states, Young as I was, I

Langston Hughes, An American Born Writer During The Harlem...
Langston Hughes was an American born writer during the Harlem Renaissance era. His work shed
light on issues that white Americans turned their backs to. Racism and segregations was, at one
time, a very large issue in our country. Hughes addressed that issue throughout poetry and in doing
so, became the most popular writer of his time. He opened the eyes of many, while accurately
portraying African Americanculture in such a way that everyone couldn t respect. The passion that
Hughes had for his topics is easily identified in his poems. A great majority of his poems relate back
to African American customs, struggles, heritage, and music. For that reason, Hughes became
listed among the greatest versatile writers of his time. Langston Hughessupported equally then, and
today his work is remembered as such. Mother to Son, is the first poem that I read by Hughes.
Just by the title alone, I knew that this work was going to be heavy. Throughout the story, Hughes
mother references crystal stairs, stating that life for me ain t been no crystal stairs. The stairs that
she is referring to would be the stairs that lead to equality and freedom. She also states that the
stairs she took were splintered and torn up. To me, that symbolizes slavery and the troubles she
endured throughout her life thus far. Knowing that, the term crystal stairs then becomes a bit easier
to grasp. White people are given the crystal stairs, meaning that their path is smooth and paved.

The Disposable Rockets By Curtis Sittenfield And John Updike
Two writers, Curtis Sittenfield and John Updike have written pieces that are insightful works
about the lives of men and women. The works are written in different styles. While Sittenfield s
Your Life as A Girl describes the struggles of a girl growing up, Updike s the Disposable Rockets
describes the physical and psychological charactericts of men while also briefly describing his
own life experiences. Both of these writings express a similar controlling idea about the harmful
effects that social pressures can have on the lives of men and women. Similarities can also be
seen in these two works when the frustration of dealing with one s own body is expressed. A
controlling idea that links both of these work together is that the expectations placed on men
and women by society can be damaging. This idea is seen in Disposable Rocket when Updike
asserts that the social pressure to men to behave recklessly can cause harm, The number of men
who do lasting damage to their young bodies is striking; war and car accidents aside, secondary
school sports, with the approval of parents and the encouragement of brutish coaches, take a
fearful toll of skulls and knees (Updike, 1993. 2). The pressure to men to act recklessly clearly
has a large margin for error. Reckless actions such as war, sports, and various stunts can lead to
serious injury and death. Clearly we can see that the societal pressure placed on men to behave in a
reckless way can have a detrimental effect on these same

  • 3. Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death Essay Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death Neil Postman is deeply worried about what technology can do to a culture or, more importantly, what technology can undo in a culture. In the case of television, Postman believes that, by happily surrendering ourselves to it, Americans are losing the ability to conduct and participate in meaningful, rational public discourse and public affairs. Or, to put it another way, TV is undoing public discourse and, as the title of his book Amusing Ourselves to Death suggests, we are willing accomplices. Postman bases his argument on the belief that public discourse in America, when governed by the epistemology of the printing press, was generally coherent, serious, and rational (16) because ... Postman says that, as a result, all public understanding of these subjects is shaped by the biases of television (78) and that in the absence of rational discourse, cultural decay is sure to follow. In an effort to expose the epistemology of television, which Postman believes has not been effectively addressed, he examines the effects of TV on several important American cultural institutions: news, religion, politics and education. All four institutions, Postman argues, have realized that they have to go on television in order to be noticed which, in turn, requires them to learn the language of TV if they are to reach the people. Therefore, they have joined the national conversation not on their own terms, but on TV s terms. Postman contends that this transformation of our major institutions has trivialized what is most important about them and turned our culture into one vast arena for show business (80). In the case of broadcast news, we see visually stimulating, disconnected stories about murder and mayhem along with a healthy dose of infotainment delivered by friendly and likeable anchors that remind us to tune in tomorrow . In the case of politics, we have discourse through distorted paid TV commercials and debates in which the appearance of having said something important is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It gave Texas a steady population flow of American migrants moving onto Texas soil. It also gave them political liberty, freedom to own slaves and a steady economic progression. It is evident that Collier utilizes information from discussions he had with African leaders rather than taking a broader view of other people who have had experiences in those countries. Nonetheless, Collier has presented a strong piece in his book The Bottom Billion.Collier also outlines four traps that are the cause of the stagnation of the poorest countries, which include; increased conflict, the supply of natural resources, and the characteristic of being landlocked, and poor governance. Notably, conflict is the first trap cited by Collier. Increased conflict can be attributed to civil wars in Africa. Thus, conflict impedes growth due to the costs associated with the civil wars. • 23. Orpheus And Eurydice In Boethius The Consolation Of... In Boethius The Consolation of Philosophy, he provides in the twelfth poem of his third book, a summary of the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. He utilizes the tale to showcase a parallel between their tragic love and the Christian s relationship with God. Orpheus yearning for his deceased wife is similar to the strong belief a Christian has for God. Considering Boethius, and others of his time, viewed God as the embodiment of goodness, the beginning lines of his poem, Happy, the one who can see/ the clear source of good,/ happy, the one who can release/ the chains of heavy earth can represent a Christian (Boethius lines 1 4). The person who is happy is the believer because they can see the source of good which indicate God. Similarly, the release from earth also implies the necessity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it is Hades who challenges Orpheus, it can be argued Eurydice sends her lover to hell for his failure. As stated in the poem, he looked, lost, fell (line 51). He loses Eurydice because he fails to trust in the person who is behind him and disobeys the order given to him. The moral message and final line given in this poem is essentially a rewording of the previously cited line, one loses when one sees the lower worlds (line 58). Yet, there does exist a small difference between the two lines, in which the final message claims seeing the lower worlds suggest failure. This line would suggest seeing Eurydice therefore equates to seeing the lower worlds or, in other words, Hell. Moreover, the reason why Orpheus fails is because of his growing distrust. His inability to believe Eurydice is behind him parallels the idea of a believer doubting in their God. Sinners or those who go against God are punished, and to teach Christians, Boethius demonstrates Orpheus punishment for disobeying the action required of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

[BC]Stephen Ross [IMG=K0F] [C]Ross purchased the Dolphins in 2009, and since then, they have made the playoffs a grand total of 1 time. Even then, it only happened because they had literally the weakest schedule in the NFL and a playoff birth handed to them on a silver platter. He had Bill Parcells as his executive VP of football operations, but Parcells left because he didn t want to deal with Ross ineptitude. He kept Jeff Ireland around from 2009 to 2014. Featuring the Republic of Gilead, women are categorized by their differing statuses and readers get an insight into this twisted society through the lenses of the narrator; Offred. Categorized as a handmaid, Offred s sole purpose in living is to simply and continuously play the role of a child bearing vessel. That being the case, there is a persistent notion that is relatively brought up by those leading the Gileadean regime; women have gained more than they have lost. Freedom was once a familiar ideal but the Republic of Gilead has normalized the notion in which women are restricted and watched of their every movement. It is a common move, as noted in history, to resist the education of the oppressed. Applying this idea to the Gilead society, women were restricted from reading to halt their need for education. • 30. Research Paper On Thermohaline Circulation According to Green facts the Thermohaline Circulation (THC) is the Large scale density driven circulation in the ocean, caused by differences in temperature and salinity. The oceans water has different salt contents and different temperatures in different areas. The colder water which is cooled at the poles is denser so will sink below the warmer water which is less dense. Surrounding water then moves in to fill the gap as the colder water sinks, this water is then also cooled and will itself begin to sink this creates the current. Cooler water is usually found at the poles because as sea ice forms the salt content of the ocean increases, because freshwater is taken away when the ice forms. The THC circulates the globe in a long continuous circle. However if the density or salt content of water is changed then it can potentially shut off the THC, if water becomes less saline then it won t be as dense so may not sink and rise in the same way. One way scientists believe it could be shut off is if glaciers and ice caps melt, this would add a huge amount of freshwater into our oceans causing it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Franchising is a long term agreement between two parties, and is when the franchisor grants the franchisee the right to use a trademark or trade name in a business process. In a franchise agreement the franchisee would in most cases purchase or lease the trademark or logo from the franchisor. Within this transaction the franchisee also pays its franchisor sales revenue or royalty fees. In return, the franchisee receives detailed and structured tactics, describing the process of how the business is run. These tactics include promotion, hiring and training employees, upgrading product or service, as well as maintaining design or dГ©cor (What is Franchising). It is common for people to think of franchising as an industry, and although it can be considered to be an industry, it can also be seen as a business model . The first area of significant area of change during the fifteenth century was that of field combat. The armies of the medieval era were built around heavy armored cavalry, especially the knight. During this time the development of infantry was largely ignored in favor of the more heavily armored cavalry, and as a result foot soldiers were generally ineffective in combat. Infantry in this period generally consisted of poorly trained and equipped peasants. Though reasonably effective the reliance on cavalry had several drawbacks, most notably the cost. In order for a knight to be effective he required the latest armor and a horse capable of supporting both the armored knight and carrying its own armor while still being mobile enough to function in battle. Knights also required training which took both time and money. Because the cavalry consisted mostly of knights who were part of the nobility, they were often reluctant to fight, creating difficulties in raising armies of sufficient size when the need arose. Another noteworthy problem with the knights was that their primary tactic of charging the enemy lines often made it easy to led them into traps. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is a novel set in the Victorian Era, based around the growth and development of a boy named Phillip Pirrip; nicknamed Pip. From convicts to lawyers, Dickens makes multiple references, throughout the novel, about social classes and the impacts they have on Pip s life as he grows up. At age eight, Pip is introduced to Miss. Havisham and Estella, who are both of upper class. Upon the introduction of social classes into Pip s life, Pip s view of those surrounding him changes, arguably for the worst. One theme present throughout the story is that being loyal and kindhearted overweights social classes. Based on the development of Pip through the story, it can be concluded that social classes played a large part in constructing who Pip later becomes. From the lowest class, convicts and orphans, to the working class, Joe and Biddy, and finally reaching the wealthy, Miss. Havisham; with each individual he meets, Dickens makes it a point to show how Pip slowly loses his virtues in his search of gentility. As an orphan living with his sister and her husband, the town blacksmith, Pip is shown as someone of a lower class. Even through the death of his parents, being beat by his sister on a regular basis, and the negative reinforcement he constantly receives from his relative: Pip is still portrayed as a child full of innocence. Joe is introduced as one, if not the only, positive thing in Pip s life. In the story, Pip states, Young as I was, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Langston Hughes, An American Born Writer During The Harlem... Langston Hughes was an American born writer during the Harlem Renaissance era. His work shed light on issues that white Americans turned their backs to. Racism and segregations was, at one time, a very large issue in our country. Hughes addressed that issue throughout poetry and in doing so, became the most popular writer of his time. He opened the eyes of many, while accurately portraying African Americanculture in such a way that everyone couldn t respect. The passion that Hughes had for his topics is easily identified in his poems. A great majority of his poems relate back to African American customs, struggles, heritage, and music. For that reason, Hughes became listed among the greatest versatile writers of his time. Langston Hughessupported equally then, and today his work is remembered as such. Mother to Son, is the first poem that I read by Hughes. Just by the title alone, I knew that this work was going to be heavy. Throughout the story, Hughes mother references crystal stairs, stating that life for me ain t been no crystal stairs. The stairs that she is referring to would be the stairs that lead to equality and freedom. She also states that the stairs she took were splintered and torn up. To me, that symbolizes slavery and the troubles she endured throughout her life thus far. Knowing that, the term crystal stairs then becomes a bit easier to grasp. White people are given the crystal stairs, meaning that their path is smooth and paved. Where as blacks of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Disposable Rockets By Curtis Sittenfield And John Updike Two writers, Curtis Sittenfield and John Updike have written pieces that are insightful works about the lives of men and women. The works are written in different styles. While Sittenfield s Your Life as A Girl describes the struggles of a girl growing up, Updike s the Disposable Rockets describes the physical and psychological charactericts of men while also briefly describing his own life experiences. Both of these writings express a similar controlling idea about the harmful effects that social pressures can have on the lives of men and women. Similarities can also be seen in these two works when the frustration of dealing with one s own body is expressed. A controlling idea that links both of these work together is that the expectations placed on men and women by society can be damaging. This idea is seen in Disposable Rocket when Updike asserts that the social pressure to men to behave recklessly can cause harm, The number of men who do lasting damage to their young bodies is striking; war and car accidents aside, secondary school sports, with the approval of parents and the encouragement of brutish coaches, take a fearful toll of skulls and knees (Updike, 1993. 2). The pressure to men to act recklessly clearly has a large margin for error. Reckless actions such as war, sports, and various stunts can lead to serious injury and death. Clearly we can see that the societal pressure placed on men to behave in a reckless way can have a detrimental effect on these same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
