- 2. Since the beginning of humanity, man has always had an affect on Earth, either positive or negative. Historians and experts have divided this affect in three (3) eras: I. Agrarian era II. Modern era III. Digital era
- 3. The term refers to the period of time when agrarian societies were the most technologically sophisticated on earth. Experts dated this era from about 11.000 BC to 1750 AD
- 4. People began to interfere with the environment around them and agriculture “defined” their lives. Agriculturalists managed to manipulate animals and plants , something that gradually changed their DNA and led to “domestication”. They organized their surroundings (by clearing forests, diverting rivers, terracing hillsides, and plowing the land) according to what they needed creating an anthropogenic environment.
- 5. Some species were useless to men or were hunted down by men and so they became extinct. Probably the most important event of the Agrarian era is the creation of small communities that later developed into villages, towns and cities.
- 6. 13.000-4.000 BC: Along with the development of settled communities, a variety of plants were cultivated in many different areas (grain crops in Mesopotamia , grains and rice in north and south China, squash in Mesoamerica, yams in West Africa and in Papua New Guinea and taro in Papua New Guinea too).
- 7. 4.000 BC: The secondary products revolution takes place in parts of Afro-Eurasia. Not only animal meat is used but also secondary products such as milk, wool etc. 3.000-2.500 BC: Plants are cultivated in the Andes region of South Africa. Cities and states made their appearance in several parts of the globe (Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, Pakistan and northern China). 2.000 BC :The trade networks expanded across Eurasia.
- 8. 1.000 BC: More cities and states were created, evidence for the spreading of culture. 500 BC- 1.000 AD : Civilization continued to thrive while the population increased. 500- 1.200 AD: The borders of the known world expanded and one of the greatest empires of all time, the Roman Empire, fell. 1.500 AD :After the discovery of America, colonization and trade became commoner than ever before.
- 9. 1.750 AD: Industrialism and its revolution was the end of the agrarian era.
- 10. ’’The modern period has been a period of significant development in the fields of science, politics, warfare, and technology. It has also been an age of discovery and globalization.’’
- 11. Modern history has been divided into 2 periods: The early modern period which began around the 16th century The late modern period that began in the mid-18th century

Huge increasment of world population Extensive Technological Development Massive Production Harnessing of Fossil and other Forms of Energy Large Communities Bureaucracy Nationalism People live longer Rise of the women rights Commercialization Global Networks Destruction of Foraging and Agrarian Lifeways Development of experimental science
- 13. It lasted from 1500 to around 1800. This period includes: The Renaissance The Reformation and Counter Reformation. The Age of Discovery The Rise of capitalism The Golden Age of Piracy
- 14. The most significant events are: The invention of the printing press The English Civil War The Seven Years' War
- 15. More and more people became involved in global trade, as it expanded both in the Old World and the New World. The Columbian Exchange according to which plants, animals, culture, human populations, technology, and ideas were transferred among the Americas and the Old World in the 15th and 16th centuries greatly affected the human environment At the same time, the current economic system was mercantilism The people’s beliefs, ideas and lifestyles bore no resemblance to the medieval ones
- 16. It lasted from 1800 to 1950-1970. This period includes: Extensive use of science and technology Mass literacy and increase of mass media Spread of social movements Institution of representative democracy Individualism Industrialization Urbanization

- 18. 1775: The American revolution, which was a political upheaval, started. 1789:The French Revolution started. This revolution led to the creation of a parliament and the written declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizens 1791:The Haitian Revolution ,which led to the slavery abolishment, to the flip of social hierarchy and to the declining of the slave trade in the Americas, started
- 19. 1839: Opium War began. The Chinese banned the trade with the British who dominated them, later, as a respond 1851: The Taiping Rebellion or Taiping Civil War was a massive civil war in China that lasted from 1850 to 1864 from which the most important events were the liberation of woman and the mass literacy that took place.
- 20. 1861: Literacy, women’s status and the industrial development were increased 1898: The boxer Rebellion and the Spanish-American War started 1903:The first powered flight was realized by the Wright Brothers 1904:The construction of Panama canal began. This canal provided a route between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans
- 21. 1914:The Word War 1 began 1920: Women gained the right to vote 1933: Hitler came to power 1939: World War 2 started
- 22. 1941:The Pearl Harbor, in which 19 ships sunk or were damaged, 2.300 Americans were killed and 1.100 wounded, happened 1945:United Nations were formed 1949: The Cold War started
- 23. ’”The Digital Era (also known as the Computer Age, Information Age , or New Media Age) is a period in human history characterized by the shift from traditional industry to an economy based on information computerization.’’

This era started with the Digital Revolution approximately in 1950-1970 A knowledge-based society surrounded by a high-tech global economy is created by the digital industry The digital industry also helps each one of us explore his/her personality People’s daily life and social organization has changed completely in many ways
- 25. Information storage: The world's technological capacity to store information has grown dramatically Information transmission: It has been easier than ever to exchange information with each other via the Internet Economics: Businesses and industries have changed the way of making a product and therefore the products are at a very low cost
- 26. Jobs: Easily automated tasks are not anymore available for workers, making them lose their jobs. Moreover, workers are being replaced by computers which can do their jobs faster and more effectively. However, research has shown that technology creates more jobs than it destroys.
- 27. Innovations: A lot of devices such as computers, laptops, mobile phones, digital cameras and tablets have been created
- 28. As we can see, the human kind has affected the earth in many ways throughout the years. Although during the agrarian and the early modern era the interference of man on earth was well-handled, the last 100 – 130 years man has started to affect it in many ways, causing harmful rather than positive results In our minds, the human kind should start caring more about the future of our planet and taking care of it.
