changed the atmosphere and temperature of the planet. Toxins and
plastic are an accumulating problem of the oceans, land and air, while
technology is becoming our second if not OUR first nature. Discuss!

2. Definition of anthropocene

The term anthropocene is used to
describe the current geological
epoch which started when human
activities began to have a
significant effect on global climate
and ecosystems.

3. What are fossil fuels?
Fossil fuels are flammable organic materials
such as oil, coal or natural gas which have
been created by the decomposition of dead
plants and animals.

4. Advantages of fossil fuels
 They are readily obtainable,
 They can produce large amounts of
energy,
 They can be one of the most effective
ways to produce energy,
 They can be transported from one
place to another,
 They are used for different reasons .

5. Disadvantages of fossil fuels
1) Global warming
Carbon dioxide is emitted when fossil
fuels are burnt and it is accountable for
global warming. Global warming has
many consequences like the melting of
polar ice caps, the flooding of low lying
areas and rise in sea levels. If all this
continues, the Earth will face some
serious consequences.

6. 2) Acid Rain
Sulphur dioxide is expelled when fossil fuels
are burnt and this causes acid rain. Trees,
lakes, animals and buildings are all
susceptible to the chemical damage and
corrosive effect of acid rain.

7. 3) The impact on human health
Air pollution from vehicles can cause
mild to serious human diseases like
asthma, COPD and lung cancer.

8. 4) Non-Renewable
Since fossil fuels are non-
renewable, it is estimated that
they will be exhausted in the
next years and it would take a
lot of time to replace them and
this means we won’t be able to
drive cars that use non-
renewable resources.

9. 5) Rising Prices
OPEC holds the majority of the
world’s oil and it continuously
observes the quantity of oil
consumed and then modifies its own
production to continue its desired
barrel price. This has a consequence
on worldwide price variation.

10. 6) The Effect on Aquatic Life through
Oil Spills
Moving crude oil via sea can bring
about oil spills which can be fatal
to the aquatic life because of the
reduction in the oxygen that
there is in the water.

A toxin is described as any
material that brings about
harmful effects to your body.
Plastic is the word to
describe a wide range of
synthetic or semi-
synthetic materials used
in a extremely large, and
developing, extension of
applications.

12. Plastic pollution
Plastic has many uses, it is
lightweight, flexible, inexpensive etc.
Those are the pleasing qualities that
make us have such a greedy appetite
that leads to an over-consumption of
plastic goods. However, plastic
materials are durable and very slow
to degrade. Our attraction to plastic,
combined with our tendency to over-
consume and thus pollute, has
become a lethal combination for
nature.

 Dangerous waste comes from
poisonous byproducts of
manufacturing, farming,
laboratories, hospitals, and
other industries. The waste
can cause injuries to humans,
animals, and plants if they
encounter these toxins
buried in the ground.

Technological innovations have
changed our daily lives tremendously,
offering us numerous new possibilities
and consequently converting
everyone’s life radically. Many fields
have been influenced by these
changes.
However, technology is said to have a
negative impact on our social skills, as
well as on teenagers and children.

 Advanced technology in aviation
provides people the opportunity to
travel easily,
 Information technology enables us
to search for and share information
with people all over the world,

 Innovative educational methods,

17. Negative effects of technology
1) Isolation
Social isolation caused by a constant
use of electronic devices instead of
meeting or going out with friends is
one of the negative effects technology
can have on adolescents, children or
even on adults.

18. 2) Health Problems
Technology and especially video games
are thought to have a negative impact
on people’s health, harming them
both physically and mentally.
Researches have shown that
uncontrollable use of electronic
devices increases the possibility of
obesity, stress, depression and can
have a negative impact on someone's
habits of sleep.

19. 3) Lack of boundaries
Unfortunately, the use of the
Interned cannot be controlled
easily. Children or adolescents are
constantly exposed to violent
games and condemned content
which can lead to violent
behaviour. Furthermore,
addictions are a constantly rising
problem.

20. 4) Pollution
The constant rising demand of
electronic devices has increased the
emission of toxic fumes by plants that
manufacture those devices.
Furthermore, broken devices that are
not recycled and disposed properly,
end up releasing chemicals into the
ground. In addition, emissions of green
house gases are constantly increasing.

21. Conclusion
Technological developments have
changed everyone’s life making it
easier and offering us new
possibilities. However, it can also have
negative effects when used
inefficiently.
We can all contribute to eliminating
those negative aspects of
technology!!!
