Friends and Fellow-citizens:
I stand before you to-night, under indictment for the alleged crime of having voted at the last Presidential election, without having a lawful right to vote. It shall be my work this evening to prove to you that in thus voting, I not only committed no crime, but, instead, simply exercised my citizen's right, guaranteed to me and all United States citizens by the National Constitution, beyond the power of any State to deny.
Our democratic-republican government is based on the idea of the natural right of every individual member thereof to a voice and a vote in making and executing the laws. We assert the province of government to be to secure the people in the enjoyment of their unalienable rights. We throw to the winds the old dogma that governments can give rights. Before governments were organized, no one denies that each individual possessed the right to protect his own life. liberty and property. And when 100 or 1,000,000 people enter into a free government, they do not barter away their natural rights; they simply pledge themselves to protect each other in the enjoyment of them, through prescribed judicial and legislative tribunals. They agree to abandon the methods of brute force in the adjustment of their differences, and adopt those of civilization.
Nor can you find a word in any of the grand documents left us by the fathers that assumes for government the power to create or to confer rights. The Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, the constitutions of the several states and the organic laws of the territories, all alike propose to protect the people in the exercise of their God-given rights. Not one of them pretends to bestow rights.
"All men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. Among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."
Here is no shadow of government authority over rights, nor exclusion of any from their full and equal enjoyment. Here is pronounced the right of all men, and "consequently," as the Quaker preacher said, "of all women," to a voice in the government. And here, in this very first paragraph of the declaration, is the assertion of the natural right of all to the ballot; for, how can "the consent of the governed" be given, if the right to vote be denied. Overview
The United States, as a nation, was born of the American Revolution of 1776. This revolution cut the political ties between England and its American colonies. Many "Americans" living in the colonies had complained about harsh British rule. King George of England had ruled over the colonies with a heavy hand, increasing taxes with the Stamp Act and the Sugar Act, for example. These abuses began to divide the "patriots" in favor of independence and the "loyalists" in favor of the English Crown.
Tensions between the American colonials and British soldiers boiled over in the Boston Massacre, when a mob harassed British soldiers, who then fired their muskets into the crowd, killing three, mortally wounding two others, and injuring six.
Another famous incident which helped inspire the American Revolution was the Boston Tea Party of 1773, launched as a protest to the British Tea Act. This Act gave the British East India Company a tea monopoly, shutting out American traders. Bostonians disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians, then boarded the British ships and dumped all 342 containers of tea into the harbor.
Two years later, in 1775, there were more serious conflicts between colonials and British troops: the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the prelude for a full conflict. The American Revolutionary War was long, bloody and ended with the French-assisted victory of the American Continental Army in Yorktown in 1781.
An understanding of American government and politics should consider two documents related to this war and its aftermath. The first is the Declaration of Independence, which launched the American Revolutionary War; and the second is the U.S. Constitution, which replaced the post-war Articles of Confederation and which remains the highest law of the land.
This lesson analyzes these documents, noting how they were part of a trans-Atlantic Enlightenment movement with emphasis on reason, freethinking, natural law, popular sovereignty, and human equality. Many of these ideas are visible in the Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson. These ideas provided the ideological and philosophical framework for the American Revolution.
After the expulsion of the English monarchy, the Articles of Confederation - in effect from 1776 to 1787 - turned the former colonies into largely autonomous states with a weak federal government. However, many people thought that this decentralized system did not solve the problem of providing for a common defense or for ...

The Texas Ordinance of Secession
(February 2, 1861)
The Texas Ordinance of Secession was the document that officially separated Texas from the United States in 1861. It was adopted by the Secession Convention on February 1 of that year, by a vote of 166 to 8. The adoption of the ordinance was one of a series of events that led to Texas' entry into the Confederacy and the American Civil War.
The ordinance text is much less known and less accessible to the general public than the Texas Declaration of Independence. According to some historians, however, it ranks equally with the earlier document in its impact on Texas.
A declaration of the causes
which impel the State of Texas to secede
from the Federal Union
The government of the United States, by certain joint resolutions, bearing date the 1st day of March, in the year A. D. 1845, proposed to the Republic of Texas, then a free, sovereign and independent nation, the annexation of the latter to the former, as one of the co-equal States thereof,
The people of Texas, by deputies in convention assembled, on the fourth day of July of the same year, assented to and accepted said proposals and formed a constitution for the proposed State, upon which on the 29th day of December in the same year, said State was formally admitted into the Confederated Union.
Texas abandoned her separate national existence and consented to become one of the Confederated States to promote her welfare, insure domestic tranquillity and secure more substantially the blessings of peace and liberty to her people. She was received into the confederacy with her own constitution under the guarantee of the federal constitution and the compact of annexation, that she should enjoy these blessings. She was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery--the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits--a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time. Her institutions and geographical position established the strongest ties between her and other slave-holding States of the confederacy. Those ties have been strengthened by association. But what has been the course of the government of the United States, and of the people and authorities of the non-slave-holding States, since our connection with them?
The controlling majority of the Federal Government, under various pretenses and disguises, has so administered the same as to exclude the citizens of the Southern States, unless under odious and unconstitutional restrictions, from all the immense territory owned in common by all the States on the Pacific Ocean, for the avowed purpose of acquiring sufficient power in the common government to use it as a means of destroying the institutions of Texas and her sister slave-holding States.
By the disloyalty of the Northern States and their citizens and the imbecility ...

The title of my book, The Purpose of Life, is also the heading of the essay collection that constitutes it. I wrote the compositions in response to my instinct for creating words and arranging them on the canvas of my mind as an imaginary trail of my existence in the sensual world. The following excerpt of my essay, The man without credentials does not have anything to prove. The meaning of life according to the “men of God”—priests, politicians, generals, and bankers—does not afflict him.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The U.S. Presidential Election of 2016: Reasons Not to Vote
1. The U.S. Presidential Election of 2016:
Reasons Not to Vote
By Humberto Gómez Sequeira-HuGóS | Tuesday, November 8, 2016
Citizens:
1. Voting is the reaction—enticed by the propaganda machine—by which the Robber Barons
who own it capture your mind and make you believe that you are free to choose between
the two models of their immorality and dictatorship.
2. Your vote does not bind the Democratic Party or Republican Party to the duty of forming
a Government—of the people, by the people and for the people—of freedom, equality,
prosperity, justice and peace.
3. Democrats and Republicans use your vote as their credentials to occupy your White
House to serve as the lackeys of the Robber Barons of Wall Street who contribute to their
war chests and thus achieve their ambition to be a reflection of their masters’ life.
4. They and the Big Lords of Money, Oil, Drugs and the Military Industrial Complex have
converted the voting system into the inverted funnel through which they channelize your
power to use it as the democratic validation of their corruption, avarice, imperialist
ambition, vainglory, and enmity against you.
5. William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton and his Democrat and Republican cohorts used your vote
to approve the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which is one of the
weapons used by the Robber Barons to conduct their war of job dispossession against
you. George Walker Bush and his Democrat and Republican cohorts used your vote to
approve the war against Iraq on behalf of the Robber Barons who wanted to conquer it
and steal its wealth. Barack Hussein Obama II and his Democrat and Republican cohorts
used your vote to approve the General Motors Bailout, the Trans-Pacific Partnership
2. 2
Agreement (TPP), the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the continuation of the war against
Afghanistan in reaction to the Robber Barons demands of global profits and domination.
6. Your elected Democrat and Republican Government Officials’ use of your vote has
caused the Robber Barons unlimited enrichment and your unrestricted dispossession.
The usurers’ bailout—also known as the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008—
was the weapon that the usurers used to assault your Treasury and declare their eviction
war against you.
7. By voting, you condone the corruption of the controllers of your vote and the corrupt
system, masked with democracy, that they use to keep you subjugated to the Robber
Barons’ dictatorship based on the immorality of free enterprise or capitalism. Whomever
of the Robber Barons’ candidates you vote for today will form a Government of the Wall
Street Cartels, by the Wall Street Cartels and for the Wall Street Cartels, just like Brand
Obama did.
