Ferguson ruling established the "separate but equal" doctrine allowing racial segregation. The Jim Crow laws further enforced segregation in public facilities. The Civil Rights movement worked to abolish segregation and racism through important figures and events like Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball, Rosa Parks' bus protest, Brown v. Board of Education ruling segregation in schools unconstitutional, and Martin Luther King Jr's leadership and "I Have a Dream" speech.

Mafia activity first emerged in the United States in New Orleans in the 1860s. New Orleans provided an isolated location where Sicilian immigrants could participate in criminal activities without interference from other criminal organizations, and its climate was similar to Sicily. Several prominent early American Mafia members immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900s from Italy and settled in New York, including Charles "Lucky" Luciano, Frank Costello, Meyer Lansky, and Vito Genovese. Prohibition in 1920 created an opportunity for organized crime groups to profit from alcohol smuggling and distribution.
This document analyzes Barack Obama and his supporters as exhibiting signs of narcissistic personality disorder. It claims Obama is a charismatic but pathological narcissist who has gained popularity through cult-like devotion from his supporters. Examples are given of other historical figures, like Fidel Castro, Ayatollah Khomeini and Adolf Hitler, who rose to power in a similar fashion through personality cults. The document argues that logic and facts will not deter Obama's supporters and the only way to defeat him is by outnumbering his "cultists" with votes for his opponent, John McCain.
The document summarizes and compares six movies from 1957 to 2005:

2. The Warriors (1979) takes place in a dystopian New York City controlled by violent gangs.
3. Pump Up the Volume (1990) follows a teen who broadcasts a pirate radio show to voice his angry social commentary.
4. Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) examines the relationship between the Bush administration and the events leading to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
5. Thank You for Smoking (2005) stars a character who lobbies to

Slide 6 WestCal Political Science 5 Western Political Thought 2016WestCal Academy
Political Science 5 - Western Political Thought provides an overall perspective of major political movements of history from the rising of Egyptian, Greek and Roman Empires to Fascism and Communism as seen by great political thinkers from Plato, Aristotle, and St. Augustine, Machiavelli, Marx, and Lenin. Students will analyze the most important ideas and theories that have been developed from the time of the ancient Greeks to the present day. Students will learn that the American Founding Fathers designed a viable representative government by first dedicating themselves to careful study of the political philosophy of Europeans, with particular attention given to British political thinkers from the 16th and 17th century. The founding fathers focused primarily on the natural rights of man, which in turn varied according to the individual philosopher studied. Over the course of their study, the founding fathers openly discussed their opinions with one another so as to properly bring forth differing views in order to prudently construct a government that would protect individual liberty, as well as determine what was required of government to protect civil liberties. The class is taught from the perspective of industry professionals with knowledge of how classical and modern political continues to influence American government. Students will learn of multiple career options relating to the field of political science.
The evolution of the American dreamByline Richard OMaraBal.docxtodd701
The evolution of the American dream
Byline: Richard O'Mara
Baltimore -- What is the American dream today? It's a fair question in these times of financial and economic disorder and a less than harmonious political scene. The general election has stimulated references to it throughout the country. I want to know what all this dreaming is about.
Promises to revive, live up to, or simply abide by the standards of the American dream seem to flow more fluidly off the lips of people in high places, those who are already enjoying its supposed benign effects.
Many ordinary people, I've found, refer to it reluctantly, and often with sarcasm. It's as if they regard it as a phrase with little concrete meaning, or an ideal betrayed.
Take my barber, for instance. She's a smart lady, independent, with her own business: She's been around. When I put the question to her, "What's the American dream?" she responded immediately: "Pfaat!!"
Or something that sounded like that.
Then, she went on to talk about this land of promise, where people could, with hard work, obtain a home of their own, gather enough money to send their children to college, and expect, under the benign influence of the American Dream, to do better than their parents did, and so forth. She explained the dream as it has been for generations.
In other words, she believes in it, but believes also that its time has come and gone.
I don't know how widespread this feeling is, but I suspect that a lot of ordinary folks, and more than a few serious thinkers, would tend to agree with my barber about the fate of the American dream.
"Many social critics would argue that what millions of Americans are really embracing is not the American dream so much as the American daydream. The authentic American dream combines faith in God with the belief in hard work and sacrifice for the future," writes economist and social thinker Jeremy Rifkin, author of "The End of Work" and "The European Dream." He continues, "We have become, say the critics, a people who have grown fat, lazy, and sedentary, who spend much of our time wishing for success but are unwilling to 'pay our dues' with the kind of personal commitment required to make something out of our lives."
At some point in our national history, back when the Pilgrims slipped ashore, an energized cohort of fiery Protestant preachers emerged to press the notion that we Americans had been singled out for greatness by God himself, an idea that stuffed us with national pride. Thus patriotism and religion were cojoined from the beginning, and, to a certain degree, the link is still there.
Benjamin Franklin imbued in us the zeal to work and encouraged the inclination for self-improvement. Then a little more than two centuries on, the sociologist Max Weber observed how the Calvanist emphasis on hard work, once driven by Puritan religious aims, had, over the years, stimulated the growth of capitalism. The religious element has since faded, and getting rich has become ne.
The document summarizes Robert Reich's view that Charles and David Koch, along with other wealthy billionaires, are undermining American democracy through their vast political spending. While the Koch brothers have a right to their wealth and views, their use of money to influence rules and laws to fit their politics is compromising the political system. Along with other billionaire donors, the Kochs are creating super PACs and political groups to fund candidates and sway elections, making politicians beholden to them over ordinary citizens. This new political reality threatens to turn America into an oligarchy controlled by a few wealthy elites if left unaddressed.

SYMPOSIUM: IMMIGRATION, CITIZENSHIP, AND THE AMERICAN DREAM
Which American Dream Do You Mean?
David Stoll
Published online: 7 July 2009

Abstract According to the latest U.S. Census projection,
the arrival of immigrants and their higher birthrates,
projected forward at current rates, will turn the U.S. into a
“minority–majority” society in 2042, 8 years earlier than
the Census used to predict. Liberals tend to view immigra-
tion to the U.S. as a human right, but many employers prefer
to hire immigrants because they can be paid less than the
cost of reproducing their labor-that is, the cost of keeping
an American family above the poverty line. One way of
looking at the resulting debates over U.S. immigration
policy is in terms of moral economy, that is, how different
factions compete for moral authority in order to gain
control over a desired good. In this case, the desired good
is American citizenship, including access to the highest
consumption rates on the planet, and national definitions of
citizenship are competing with transnational or globalist
definitions of citizenship. Constructing moral rhetoric for
either national or transnational definitions of citizenship
requires excluding information that does not serve the
cause. One way of spotlighting the omissions is to look at
each moral economy as a highly selective version of the
American Dream.

Census projection . Minority–majority
In his campaign for president, Barack Obama promised a
comprehensive immigration reform that will probably
include legalizing undocumented immigrants. So as we
stumble out of the rubble of our credit collapse, activists
and talking heads will return to this contentious subject. In
2007, 38 million people or 12.6% of the U.S. population
was foreign-born. According to the latest U.S. Census
projection, the arrival of immigrants and their higher
birthrates, projected forward at current rates, will turn the
U.S. into a “minority–majority” society in 2042, 8 years
earlier than the Census used to predict. That is, the
percentage of people who we define as non-Hispanic
whites (currently 65% of the population) will decline to
less than 50% of the U.S. population. In 15 years people
who we currently define as minorities will comprise more
than half of all children, and by 2050 they will comprise
54% of the population.
Statistical trends such as these are quick to provoke
indignation. Some Americans are horrified that, in 2008,
the U.S. government forcibly deported 361,000 people,
almost ninety percent of them Mexicans and Central
Americans. The deportees include people who made their
lives in the United States, and they have many relatives,
friends and employers who feel their human rights have
been violated. Other Americans are horrified that immi-
grants who deliberately broke the law, who did so
repeatedly to smuggle in their relatives, and who may
continue to do so, w ...
The document discusses Barack Obama's path to becoming President of the United States, including his early life and education. It describes his career in community organizing and politics, culminating in his election to the US Senate in 1996. It also examines Obama's campaigns for the Democratic nomination in 2008 and the general election, which some viewed as a racial contest between a black man and white candidates.
This document summarizes an article that criticizes President Obama and many associated political figures and pundits for perpetuating lies. It provides examples of lies told by Obama regarding Obamacare, Benghazi, the IRS scandal, and other issues. It also lists people like Jonathan Gruber, Lois Lerner, Eric Holder, John Kerry, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and media figures like Candy Crowley and Bob Beckel as part of an "army of liars" that support and spread Obama's lies. The document argues that lying has become normalized and institutionalized within liberal politics and media.
Reasons not to vote for the corrupt Democrat or Republican politicians and the corrupt system, masked with democracy, that they use to serve the corrupt class of the Robber Barons and their immoral dictatorship.

How Stephen Miller Seized the Moment to Battle Immigration
By Jason DeParle
The New York Times
August 27, 2019
WASHINGTON—When historians try to explain how opponents of immigration
captured the Republican Party, they may turn to the spring of 2007, when George W.
Bush threw his waning powers behind a legalization plan and conservative populists
buried it in scorn.
Mr. Bush was so taken aback, he said he worried about America “losing its soul,” and
immigration politics have never been the same.
That spring was significant for another reason, too: An intense young man with wary,
hooded eyes and fiercely anti-immigrant views graduated from college and began a
meteoric rise as a Republican operative. With the timing of a screenplay, the man and
the moment converged.
Stephen Miller was 22 and looking for work in Washington. He lacked government
experience but had media appearances on talk radio and Fox News and a history of
pushing causes like “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week.” A first-term congresswoman
from Minnesota offered him a job interview and discovered they were reading the same
book: a polemic warning that Muslim immigration cold mean “the end of the world as
we know it.”
By the end of the interview, Representative Michele Bachmann had a new press
secretary. And a dozen years later, Mr. Miller, now a senior adviser to President Trump,
is presiding over one of the most fervent attacks on immigration in American history.
The story of Mr. Miller’s rise has been told with a focus on his pugnacity and paradoxes.
Known more for his enemies than his friends, he is a conservative firebrand from liberal
Santa Monica, Calif., and a descendant of refugees who is seeking to eliminate refugee
programs. He is a Duke graduate in bespoke suits who rails against the perfidy of so-
called elites. Among those who have questioned his moral fitness are his uncle, his
childhood rabbi and 3,400 fellow Duke alumni.
Less attention has been paid to the forces that have abetted his rise and eroded
Republican support for immigration — forces Mr. Miller has personified and advanced
in a career unusually reflective of its times.
Rising fears of terrorism after the Sept. 11 attacks brought new calls to keep immigrants
out. Declining need for industrial labor left fewer businesses clamoring to bring them in.
A surge of migrants across the South stoked a backlash in the party’s geographic base.
Conservative media, once divided, turned against immigration, and immigration-
reduction groups that had operated on the margins grew in numbers and sophistication.
Abandoning calls for minority outreach, the Republican Party chose instead to energize
2
its conservative white base — heeding strategists who said the immigrant vote was not
just a lost cause but an existential threat.
Arriving in Washington as these forces coalesced, Mr. Miller rode the tailwinds with zeal
and skill. Warning of terrorism and disturbed by multic ...

This document argues that a socialist president is needed to break the two-party system and capitalist domination of politics that keeps the working class oppressed. It outlines how the Democratic and Republican parties both serve the capitalist class and pass laws like NAFTA that harm workers. The document claims the current system must be revolutionized, and that the working class needs to unite, form their own political party and unions, and seize control of the wealth they produce in order to achieve democracy, equality and justice.
The document discusses the purpose of human life and how it is being shaped by technological developments. It argues that humans are evolving from biological beings into data and algorithms as AI and robotics progress. The ruling class is promoting this transition to maintain capitalism and power, while the working class passively accepts it. To preserve humanity, people must define their own purpose centered around cultivating wisdom and altruism, and limiting technology's role to serving humanist values.

The document opposes the U.S. government's treatment of emigrants and argues that large industries prioritize profit over safety, making the country unsafe. It asserts that emigrants are human beings who deserve human rights, especially the right to asylum. The document calls on people to defend emigrants' right to asylum.

The U.S. Presidential Election of 2016: The Great Democratic Hope of Deception
1. The U.S. Presidential Election of 2016:
The Great Democratic Hope of Deception
By Humberto Gómez Sequeira-HuGóS
Thursday, November 10, 2016
Like faith, hope is the illusion that the Robber Barons' Democrat and Republican
illusionists implant in the believers' mind to convert them into the saboteurs of the revolution that
they need to make to free themselves from the illusion and the illusionists and their masters.
Armed with the word Hope, the Brand Obama
model—which was produced by the Robber Barons'
political think tank—intoxicated the believers with an
almost sexual, à la Kennedy, desire. Enchanted by his
Hollywood celebrity style, the believers allowed him to
lead them like children to the Wall Street altar where the
Robber Barons gutted them as they sang "We shall
overcome."
Hope was the magic pipe that the Democratic Party
propaganda machine used to lead the believers through
a campaign of distraction from the human ruins created
by the Robber Baron's predatory wars against their
mortgage clients and the people of Iraq. These acts of
dehumanization and pillage were led by the Republican
Party with the support of their Democrat accomplices.
The Great Democratic Hope of Deception—
represented by the deceiving Brand Obama—was a coup
d'état against the people. It produced the auto industry
bailout, the police State, the for-profit drone wars, the
forced tribute to Big Pharma, the dispossession of the working class, the empowerment of the
Robber Barons' class, and the conversion of the State into their legislative and war machine.
Brand Obama was the window dressing of a violent campaign to eliminate the people as
the owner of the State and enthrone the Robber Barons as the American Louis XIV trusted by
God to be the State and the model of the people's aspirations.
As a stratagem created by the propaganda machine, Hope obscured the political
awareness of the working class and stimulated the conditions for the emergence of the Great
Republican Wall of Hope in its mind.
The Barack Obama "Hope" poster is an image of Barack Obama designed by artist Shepard Fairey, which was
widely described as iconic and came to represent his 2008 presidential campaign. Wikipedia
