Once there was a famous racehorse named Fast Gate who won every race he entered until the Kentucky Derby, where he fell and broke his leg during the race. His injury was worse than initially thought, and he was unable to race competitively again. However, his owner Emma trained him in western riding and barrel racing instead. Despite his doubts, Fast Gate found that he excelled at and enjoyed barrel racing, allowing him to continue competing successfully in a new discipline.
2. • Once there was a famous horse named Fast Gate.
His owner’s name is Emma. Fast Gate was a race
horse that competed in many races.
This is Emma
3. Every race he entered he would win, but one
day that all went downhill. One day Fast Gate
was entered in the biggest race in the United
States.
4. . It was called the Kentucky Derby. He trained
harder than any horse, but that is just what he
thought.
This is Fast Gate
5. There was a horse that really did train a lot
harder than him, but fast gate didn’t know that.
His name was Star Strike. He also won every
race he entered.
6. He had a flowing mane he was very young and he
had a lot of energy. Fast Gate was young and he
was a pretty thoroughbred.
This is Star Strike
7. Even when he was a little colt he loved to run it
was his goal to be a famous race horse and
that goal came true.
8. It was 1 day before the race. He was running and
taking his time and to work on pacing himself,
but he was never to good at that.
9. The day went past fast and so did the night.
Then it was the day of the race.
10. Fast Gate was so excited! He got up really early
in the morning
11. He said to himself while he was getting ready “I
am going to win this race if it is the last thing I
do”.
12. When he was done getting ready he was getting
lined up at the starting line. Emma was so
excited for Fast gate. She was not the one
riding Fast Gate she paid a jokey to ride him.
13. • The whistle blew and then they were off! The
horses would go for three laps around the
field.
14. • The other horses were very fast, but Fast Gate
was pacing himself. When the other horses
were getting tiered Fast Gate made his move.
He was like a bolt of lightning!
15. • He was almost done with the second lap, but
then he lost his balance and tripped and fell
on the ground.
16. • The crowd was shocked, but Emma got up out
of her seat and ran to Fast Gate. Thankfully
the vet was there just in case.
17. • The vet came down to look at him. The race
stopped no one moved. It was silent.
18. • They took fast Gate off of the field to get
checked out. He was in pain.
19. • The vet took an e-x ray and the vet said that
he had a broken leg and couldn’t compete for
a while. Emma was so sad that he was hurt.
Not a broken leg This is a broken leg
20. • Fast gate was really hurt he couldn’t move his
leg. He was sad that he was not the winner,
but he was even more disappointed that he
never crossed the finish line and that is what
he wanted to do not just win but be a good
sport about it.
21. The vet took an e-x ray and the vet said that
he had a broken leg and couldn’t compete
for a while. Emma was so sad that he was
hurt.
Fast Gate with a broken leg
on the field.
22. • He never ever thought that would happen
because in his career he never lost a race that
he had entered.
23. • Fast Gate was sad that he couldn’t run all he
could do was lay in his stall, eat, and sleep.
Ten weeks later he was better, but he had to
go through a process that would get him to be
better and in shape for the next race.
25. • His leg was better so he could be ridden, but
when Emma got on something else was
wrong. He did not fell his best at all he felt
that he couldn’t do anything but stand there.
26. • Emma told him to walk, but he wouldn’t. He
just stood there.
27. • Emma got off and he fell to the ground. Emma
tried to figure out what was wrong, but she
found nothing.
28. • She called the vet to come take a look at Fast
Gate. When the vet was done she said to
Emma that he never really recovered from his
broken leg and he would have to be turned
out to pasture.
29. • He could be ridden, but he couldn’t race. He
was sad about that.
30. • I little while after Emma had found out she
started to train him for a easy stile of ridding
called western ridding. He didn’t like the
heavy saddle, but he would have to deal with
it.
31. • A week after she started to train him she
entered him in a barrel race. After the race he
found out that he had won.
32. • That was great for him. He found his new
favorite thing to do.
33. • He had never thought he would like it, but he
loves it and he is comfortable in his new gear.
He was really good at racing, but he was
better at barrel racing.
