Warner Bros is transforming itself into a fully digital business to adapt to changing customer preferences and new technologies. It is implementing digital distribution through various platforms and using digital cameras and production systems. Warner has partnered with Hewlett-Packard to transform its entire film production and distribution process into an all-digital, file-based system and develop an IT architecture to manage this. The project involves digitizing thousands of films and TV shows and delivering content through various new formats and devices.
This document provides an overview of new media technologies and their impact on the film industry. It discusses how digital technologies have improved quality and interactivity, led to data compression allowing for more storage, and enabled convergence of technologies. At the production level, examples of new media impacts include CGI, digital filmmaking, and digital editing software. Distribution has been affected through social media promotion, simultaneous game/film releases, and targeted digital channels. Exhibition has transitioned to digital projectors in theaters and risen alternative content revenues. Case studies are given on specific films to illustrate these impacts.

This document analyzes and summarizes a video clip that depicts elderly characters in different ways that either conform to or contradict stereotypes. It shows one elderly character, House, as weak and needing to rely on younger inmates for protection. However, another elderly character is depicted as strong, powerful, and able to command fear and respect from others. Younger characters are either intimidated or protective of the elderly characters, depending on whether they are shown as powerful or powerless. The clip suggests that age does not necessarily determine one's strength or influence.
My final ideas for the school magazine Maisie Bloor
The magazine is targeted at 6formers and is titled "In Auditorio" which translates to "Listening in". It aims to provide information specifically relevant to 6formers, such as potential jobs and after school clubs, and include pictures of 6formers to make them feel more connected. The magazine will also feature an "agony aunt" page to show that students' voices will be heard. It will have colorful headlines and subheadings to draw readers' attention.
The document discusses film distribution and the FDA (Film Distributors' Association). It describes several ways that filmmakers distribute movies, such as through DVDs, streaming services, or television broadcasts. It also discusses how distributors market and promote movies through word-of-mouth recommendations, posters, media advertising, digital marketing, and making films accessible. The FDA is described as the UK trade body for film distributors that provides services to members like market research, legal advice, and representation to other groups in the film industry.

Brooke Davis challenges some television drama stereotypes as a powerful waitress with styled hair and makeup who shows her figure, but still fits others as her ditzy expression and waitressing job reinforce stereotypes of women needing to appear happy and polite. However, her powerful walking position goes against the stereotype of women not having much power.
Laura Mulvey was a prominent film theorist born in 1941 who studied at Oxford University. She is known for her theory of the "male gaze" which proposes that in film audiences view characters through a male perspective, and that media has socialized women into becoming passive objects of the male gaze over time. Her theory helps identify when ideologies are unconsciously adopted from movies and challenges the notion that what is shown is factual. The theory remains relevant as more movies continue to employ the male gaze, influencing viewers' mindsets.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs outlines 5 stages that humans must progress through to achieve self-actualization: 1) physiological needs like food and shelter, 2) safety needs, 3) love and belonging, 4) esteem, and 5) self-actualization of one's full potential. The document discusses how people in different stages of the hierarchy can be seen as different target audiences, with those in the safety stage being more prone to influence from propaganda and advertising.
Roland Barthes was a French theorist and semiotician who made important advances in semiotics and post-structuralism. Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols, such as how different colors on a traffic light signify how to react. Barthes contributed the theory that all signs can be divided into a signifier, the visual or material form of the sign, and a signified, its meaning or interpretation. He applied this concept of splitting symbols into what is seen and what it means.

This document provides an overview of digital cinema technology. It defines digital cinema as the digital electronic distribution and display of theatrical films or live content in theaters. Currently, most theaters use Texas Instruments digital light processing projectors at a resolution of 1024x1280 pixels. The technology is still evolving to provide higher quality than 35mm film. Digital cinema allows alternative content distribution through satellite or networks and offers benefits like reduced costs, but major investment is required for theater conversion. The creative community embraces new tools but still sees room for improved image quality.

Digital technologies are fundamentally changing the film industry from production to distribution to exhibition. Films themselves are being transformed as they are increasingly being shot in digital formats rather than film. Technologies like 3D and IMAX are also reshaping theatrical exhibition. At the same time, new platforms like DVDs, Blu-Rays, streaming, and online piracy are challenging traditional models of distribution and consumption. This technological evolution is both opening new opportunities for the film industry and posing new threats around piracy and windowing of content across platforms.
Section b developments in 21st century cinema and filmLou Davies
This document provides information about Section B of a Film Studies exam, which focuses on cinema in context. It outlines two questions students will answer - one on the rise of blockbusters and multiplex cinemas from 1972-1984, and another on developments in 21st century cinema from 2000 to present. For each response, students must discuss the sociological, economic, and technological contexts, refer to films, link to historical context, and discuss how periods influenced future developments. They are also advised to connect institutional practices to audience behavior. Example exam questions are provided at the end.

digital rights management for multimedia filesApurva Vyas
This document proposes a digital rights management (DRM) system for protecting multimedia files. It discusses existing DRM technologies for different media like films, broadcast TV, e-books, games and music. It then describes the proposed DRM framework which includes a DRM server to manage user rights and a DRM client to enforce them. Content can be consumed online by authenticating with the server or offline by storing an encrypted license locally. The framework aims to provide flexibility, efficiency, usability and security for digital content distribution and consumption.
This document outlines an agenda for a presentation on using the open source digital video recorder (DVR) software MythTV in an educational setting. Digital technology refers to on-demand access to content from any device anywhere and allows for interactive engagement and community formation around media. New media is often digital, with characteristics of manipulation, connectivity, density, compression and interactivity like the internet, websites and computer games. When creating a horror trailer, a variety of digital technologies must be used such as filming, editing in PremierePro, burning to disc, designing packaging in Photoshop, and uploading to YouTube for worldwide access.
This document discusses developments in film hardware from 1968 to 2007 that have impacted both audiences and film institutions. It describes technologies like CGI, digital video cameras, the World Wide Web, video on demand, DVDs, Blu-rays, smartphones/tablets, and IMAX that have allowed for easier production and distribution of films, as well as providing audiences more options for accessing media on various devices and platforms. Many of these developments have benefited both audiences, through increased access and variety of content, and institutions, through new methods of advertising, distribution and attracting wider audiences.

Videoconferencing allows two or more locations to communicate simultaneously through two-way video and audio transmission. It has been used commercially since the late 1930s but became more widespread in the late 1990s with cheaper broadband internet. There are two main types of videoconferencing systems - dedicated systems that package all components into one device, and desktop systems that use add-ons to transform regular PCs and laptops into videoconferencing devices.
