Foxes live in burrows they dig in forests, mountains, grasslands and deserts. Their burrows provide shelter and a safe place to keep food and young. Foxes are omnivores and will eat meat, pet food, cheese, fruit, vegetables and small animals. Their predators include coyotes and eagles, while they prey on rabbits, mice, rats and other small rodents. Foxes face dangers from fox hunting and habitat loss but camouflage well by blending into their surroundings with their fur. Unlike some animals, foxes do not hibernate and remain active year-round within a 1-2 mile radius while hunting.
