Violence-Violence occurs in my soap opera especially
domestic abuse between a couple .I could base the
poster around a woman who has been abused by her
husband and include the colour purple to symbolize
support for domestic violence.
Thriller-The main narrative of the soap is someone
has been murdered so I want the background to be a
picture of a graveyard to give insight into the death that
will happen in the soap opera. I want to get the sun in
the background of this picture that looks bright then
gradually as you look down the page it gets darker
when focused on the characters.
Adultery-In my soap opera adultery is a theme
included, so on my poster I can include the characters
involved in a love triangle to connote to the audience
what characters are involved. With someone watching
the secret couple to connote the mystery to the
audience. The image would be low key lighting to
connote something bad is going to happen. The
colours I could use would be black and red to show
passion and danger

The images I need for my poster will

Taglines
‘we know what you did’-This tagline
reveals that in the soap opera everything
that has happened will be revealed. Such
as the death, abuse or cheating.
‘Shock affair’-This tagline connotes to the
audience that someone is having an affair
and the audience wants to find out who it
is or if they get caught out.
‘The truth is out’-This tagline ‘signifies’
(De Saussure) to the audience the secrecy
involved in the soap opera and that the
soap is leading up to a big event that’s
going to be revealed.
Other
When taking the images of my
characters I plan to take a low angle
shot to ‘signify’ (De Saussure) that they
are very powerful characters and it
gives the effect that the reader is
looking up to see them. I will also
manipulate the images I take to make
them look darker to connote the
mystery and death in the soap opera.
Synergy with social media
Use of social media on the poster causes mass
marketing for the soap opera. On Facebook
people can share things and view pages which
the audience can view and also share which will
keep advertising the new soap opera.
Also on twitter hash tagging something or re
tweeting something continues to share
information about the new soap and popularize
it with a younger audience when they use social
media on a daily basis.
Point of call
The point of call information will include
the soap opera release date, the time
that it will be aired at and the reviews of
the soap opera. Also on poster I will
include the BBC2 logo to ‘signify’ (De
Saussure) to the audience what channel
the soap opera will be aired on. By
including this information on my poster it
should increase the viewing audience.

4. Mind Map - Conclusion
• To be able to start creating my poster I will need to take pictures of the characters
that are in my soap and decide which pictures I like the best at the moment, I think
I will use a picture of one of the female characters in the soap walking away to
signify someone may be watching or following her. I will take my phots on a DLSR
camera so the pictures are a good quality.
• I will also have to arrange to take pictures of the characters and tell them what to
wear so the clothes they wear are symbolic to the soap. I will use a variety of
simple fonts on my poster the font doesn't take away the connotations behind the
poster.
• Finally the software I will use to create my product is Photoshop CS5.1 because it
is a very good software to use to be able to manipulate images and edit images
and text effectively and professionally. I will also be using it because I have used it
many times and am very used to the software and how to use the tools on it.
