The respiratory system provides oxygen to cells and removes carbon dioxide. It includes the nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, lungs, and diaphragm. The upper respiratory tract warms, moistens, and filters air and contains smell receptors. The lower respiratory tract contains the lungs, which transport air to alveoli for gas exchange, and the diaphragm and lungs work in the respiratory cycle to inhale and exhale. Disorders include reduced airflow, infections, cancer, and cystic fibrosis. The respiratory system works with the digestive system which provides glucose for cellular respiration.
