The traditional view of the tester’s role is to write test cases based on requirements, and repeatedly test programmers’ code against those test cases. To be the gatekeepers of quality. To find and raise defects. To be the last line of defense against buggy software making it out to users.
Then “Agile” came along – collaborative, incremental development methods promising the rapid delivery of high quality, valuable software to customers. Agile’s rise to prominence has resulted in a need for testers (and other software development specialist roles) to radically adapt their ways of working.
This talk will present some core tenets of this adaptation. It will introduce both new and experienced “agile testers” to techniques for not only being a highly effective agile team member, but a key contributor in helping their team and organisation deliver better quality software.

In this workshop, David Hawks led participants as they explored how traditional practices like projects, budgeting, leadership directives, release cadence, etc slow organizations down. The group discussed the difference between a project-driven mindset vs a value-driven mindset, why the latter is the path forward, and what practices need to change in order to support this shift towards Next Level Agile.
David defined new Agile Manifesto statements to guide participants forward. Attendees left with actionable items to implement in order to take their organization beyond Agile adoption to full Next Level Agile transformation.

When your organization began adopting agile did you ask or get asked questions like: Is there a way to quantify the cost of the transition? How many teams or what scope should the initial transition effort cover? Should we use an internal coach or hire an external coach? How does training fit in to the adoption? Over the past 10 years I have been assisting companies with their transitions to agile. During this presentation I will communicate various lessons I have learned by working with senior and executive management.
