It has sub-parts that control involuntary functions and regulate movement.

The coverings of brain and spinal cord are called meninge.

Cerebrum (telencephalon or endbrain): is the largest part of the brain and is composed of right and left hemispheres. It performs higher functions like interpreting touch, vision and hearing, as well as speech, reasoning, emotions, learning, and fine control of movement.
Cerebellum (little brain): is located under the cerebrum. Its function is to coordinate muscle movements, maintain posture, and balance.

Em consonância com os ODS – Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável e a Estratégia Global para a Saúde das Mulheres, Crianças e Adolescentes, e aplicando uma abordagem baseada nos direitos humanos, os esforços de cuidados pós-natais devem expandir-se para além da cobertura e da simples sobrevivência, de modo a incluir cuidados de qualidade.
Estas diretrizes visam melhorar a qualidade dos cuidados pós-natais essenciais e de rotina prestados às mulheres e aos recém-nascidos, com o objetivo final de melhorar a saúde e o bem-estar materno e neonatal.
Uma “experiência pós-natal positiva” é um resultado importante para todas as mulheres que dão à luz e para os seus recém-nascidos, estabelecendo as bases para a melhoria da saúde e do bem-estar a curto e longo prazo. Uma experiência pós-natal positiva é definida como aquela em que as mulheres, pessoas que gestam, os recém-nascidos, os casais, os pais, os cuidadores e as famílias recebem informação consistente, garantia e apoio de profissionais de saúde motivados; e onde um sistema de saúde flexível e com recursos reconheça as necessidades das mulheres e dos bebês e respeite o seu contexto cultural.
Estas diretrizes consolidadas apresentam algumas recomendações novas e já bem fundamentadas sobre cuidados pós-natais de rotina para mulheres e neonatos que recebem cuidados no pós-parto em unidades de saúde ou na comunidade, independentemente dos recursos disponíveis.
É fornecido um conjunto abrangente de recomendações para cuidados durante o período puerperal, com ênfase nos cuidados essenciais que todas as mulheres e recém-nascidos devem receber, e com a devida atenção à qualidade dos cuidados; isto é, a entrega e a experiência do cuidado recebido. - 2. WHAT IS IT? • The nervous system is the major controlling, regulatory and communicating system of the body.
- 3. PARTS OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM The main parts of the system are:- • Brain • Spinal Cord • Nerves • Sensory Organs
- 4. FUNCTIONS • Control of body's internal temperature to maintain 'homeostasis' • Programming of spinal cord reflexes • Memory and learning. • Voluntary control of movement.
- 5. COMPARISON OF THE MAIN PARTS
- 6. CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM-CNS • The CNS is the processing center of the body and consists of the brain and the spinal cord • It receives information from various areas of the body and then coordinates to produce responses.
- 7. PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM-PNS • The peripheral nervous system is made up of nerves that branch off from the spinal cord and extend to all parts of the body.
- 8. PNS FUNCTIONS Peripheral nerves reside outside your brain and spinal cord. They relay information between your brain and the rest of your body. 1.Sensory: Connects the brain and spinal cord to your skin and allow you to feel pain and other sensations. 2.Autonomic: Controls involuntary function (e.g., blood pressure, digestion, heart rate). 3.Motor: Connects the brain and spinal cord to muscles to stimulate movement.
- 9. SUB-PARTS OF PNS AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM • Controls involuntary bodily functions and regulates glands. SOMATIC NERVOUS SYSTEM • Controls muscle movement and relays information from ears, eyes and skin to the central nervous system.
