The Negative Effects Of Social Media And Its Effects On...
In the last twenty years, a phenomenon known as social media has become popular, and with this phenomenon, people have started to be able to
communicate and share their lives with others all over the world with ease, and this has brought the world together in a unique way. However, all
good things have problems, and a multitude of problems have come from becoming addicted to using social media. In Fanni BГЎnyai's article
"Problematic Social Media Use: Results from a Large–Scale Nationally Representative Adolescent Sample," she says, "Negative outcomes triggered by
the excessive use of social media may have a detrimental effect on the personal, social, and/ or professional lives of the users." and I agree because
it is easy to see the impact of social media overuse in the society of todays world. Social media is a fantastic thing that allows people to stay in
touch with distant friends and family to share experiences, but social media also can become addictive and destroy face to face friendships, but
these problems are fixed by planning time to use social media, and not posting everything an individual does. The invention of social media has
made it possible for friends that meet while traveling, or the family that has people all over, or even the family that all lives in the same
neighborhood, to stay in touch and share their daily experiences with each other. Social Media has made it possible for a woman in Greeneville, TN,
to talk to and write messages to her

Negative Effects On Social Media
Social media is used as a tool to talk to loved ones and friends to make us feel close to them, but it has been shown that social media has the exact
opposite effect. It's makes some people feel alone, while other people live it up in trash cans with their egos as big as Rockefeller's network. Common
sense seems to dictate that it would be smarter to not put so much value on one photo, but in the memories that those photos hold, but, nowadays
people only care about the photos, not memories. Its result is a generation filled with young kids suffering with mental health problems.
The study from the Association for Psychological Science states the likes you get on social media impacts the brains and behaviors of teenagers. The
study found "the same brain circuits that are activated by eating chocolate and winning money are activated when teenagers see large numbers of
"likes" on their own photos or the photos of peers in a social network" (APS). In other words, Teens have become, so dependent on social media,
that getting one like is like winning money or eating chocolate. The study shows how teens have become obsessed for people to tell them their
pretty and beautiful to fill their holes in their huge egos they can't be done by themselves anymore. The study also found that "when the teens saw
their own photos with a large number of likes, we saw activity across a wide variety of regions in the brain, said lead author Lauren Sherman, a
researcher in the brain mapping center and the UCLA branch of the Children's Digital Media Center, Los Angeles."(APS) Teens have become so
full of themselves that they need every like on their Instagram photo to feed their ego monsters that hide where their soul should be, caring about
likes than helping the poor or helping the elderly in their family. Social media also affects how teenagers act, "in [their] real lives, the influence of
their friends is likely to be even more dramatic, said Mirella Dapretto, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at UCLA's Semel Institute for
Neuroscience and Human Behavior."(APS) With celebs like Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton shares everything in the public eye on social media, it
makes perfect sense that teens would do what is

Media And Technology : The Negative Effects Of Technology...
There are many different arguments you could make on whether having so much media and technology is more negative or more positive. In our
society today, everything we do is based off of technology: we post everything we do, stay in touch with people over social sites and base our lives
around the technology we have. Personally, my family and I just went on vacation and with everything we did we had to take pictures. And with
these pictures, my dad posted them on Facebook, a social media site where he can share these pictures with all his friends. Without both social media
and technology, no one would know what to do with their lives. This is what keeps us feeling connected but this is not a good thing. These
technology based activities are overrunning our lives. The society finds it easier and prefers to talk over text than face to face. Despite how much
technology influences our daily lives, overall it has a negative impact and influence on both teenagers and kids in a plethora of different ways.
Technology is most harmful to kids, who spend numerous amount of time on different devices. Whether it's their own Ipad, their parent's phone or
sitting and watching TV, it all has the same negativeeffect on children's brains. More specifically technology has a worse effect on infant's brains who
has had no chance to develop and whose brains are easily influenced. As Christakis recalls, "The more TV children watched as infants, the more likely
they were to have attentional

The Media And Its Effects On Society
These days, sexism in the media is one of the top issues confronting women in Canada. Female political candidates often experience a toxic
environment that can adversely affect their campaigns. The constantly changing media scene regularly permits harmful remarks to exist without
responsibility. The under–representation of women in media is an all–inclusive wonder. Despite the fact that there have been improvements, women
still fall behind men in numerical representation in government. The sexual orientation depiction studies have recorded that the media have been
careless in reacting to sex equalization. Women are either overlooked totally or are lessened to imperceptible status through under–representation in

This is not to say that all information conveyed by the media is heterogeneous, as unreasonable talk is additionally present. Be that as it may, the
pervasive dispersal of prevailing philosophies holds on as a worry among minority populations, as their voices are regularly oppressed and disregarded
inside standard media. Social movements, which can be approximately characterized as cognizant aggregate endeavors to change some parts of the
social request, are hard to depict with accuracy. Major social movements contain inside themselves numerous subgroupings which may contrast in vital
ways. The women 's movement, for instance, incorporates liberal, radical and Marxist women 's activists, ecofeminists, lesbian separatists and the
individuals who view lesbianism as one way of life among others; in spite of the fact that these groupings debate about various issues, they do concede
to the fundamental need to enhance the circumstance of women. The women 's movement has been working for social equity for women along a wide
range of fronts, including legislative issues, culture, the mass media, law, instruction, wellbeing, the work power, religion, nature and home.
Consolidating the battle against sexism with a battle against prejudice has turned out to be progressively imperative. The authoritative structure

The Negative Effects Of Smartphones And Social Media
In the world we live in today everyone is connected to one another through their smartphones and social media, Although this has had positive
effect on the world i believe that the negative effects outweigh the positive effects. The extensive use of smartphones and social media have made
it harder for students to gather and obtain information due to their dependence on technology to easily gather it for them. Studies have shown that
the increased use of social media and smartphone have lead to mental health problem among teens. With everyone so worried about their
facebooks and instagrams they haven't been able to learn how to properly socialize with other people. Smartphones and social media have
negatively affected students ability to obtain information, alter their emotional stability, and negatively influence their social skills. Smartphones
and social media have made gathering information difficult for people in living in the world because they rely on their smartphone and other
technology to obtain the information the need for them. This has affected people's ability to read and absorb information from long articles or
book where they actually have to take the time to read them. In his article Is Google Making Us Stupid? Nicholas Carr argues that the use of
technology has made it harder for him to read books or other long articles stating " My mind would get caught up in the narrative or the turns of the
argument, and i'd spend hours strolling through long stretches of prose. That's rarely the case anymore. Now my concentration often starts to drift
after two or three pages" (Carr 314). This quote is talking about Nicholas Carr's inability to concentrate on long piece of writing like he used to be
able too. Carr blames this on his use of technology stating "I think i know what's going on. For more than a decade now, i've been spending alot of
time online, searching and surfing and sometimes adding to the great databases of the internet... Research that once required days in the stacks or
periodical rooms of libraries can now be done in minutes" (Carr 314). Nicholas Carr states this to put into perspective that technology is reducing the
time and concentration it takes to research information the one

Allyson Wells Effects of Mass Media In this day and age, most anyone can find out just about anything, on any subject, at any time with just a few
clicks of a button. The act of gathering information used to be a much more tedious and physical endeavor. However, these days it can be done with
ease thanks to the enormous developments in mass media distribution over the last century. The major mode of information distribution has went from
mostly print to internet and everything in between. The amount of people reached has grown dramatically from a few hundred to millions in an instant.
Major Developments Mass production was one of the first major developments that led the charge to the emergence of mass media. The ability to print
thousands of copies in print made it possible to reach a higher population in a shorter amount of time. This made keeping up with current events much
easier for the public. Another major development in the emergence of mass media was the invention oftelevision. Television brought about news
programs, reality programs, and product commercials along with many other types of informational programs. People did not even have to step
outside their door anymore in order to find out what was going on in the world. In today's world, the majority of homes have at least one television set.

The Negative Effects Of Social Media
Being a student, I guess the penetration rate about the social media for me is almost 100 percent. At least me and my friends use it every day. We
probably used it to translate the words or chat with others. Even more, we use it for fun. Everyone use social media. Undisputed, social media is
another way for us to keep communicating with each other. However, it could bring the negative and the positive effects for us. According to my
personal experience, I think the social media is harmful for the students and It can bring a lot of negative effect for me. Nowadays, everyone has a cell
phone and people need it so that they can get communicate with their parents or friends. To share their feelings after school or work. Furthermore,
they need the cell phone to work. As the result, social media company catches the point that people need to share feelings. They keep updating the
social media apps and put new applications on the shelves so that they can keep attractive and they can make profits. I used like to post my feelings
and my exciting experience in the social media such as Wechat and Instagram. My friends just click like and eachtime when I get many likes I will be
happier and feel satisfied. You never can't imagine how long when you down with using it one time. When I am done with all the information which
my friends post and make the comments or likes, half or one hour is gone. Then I start to watch the news, which post by my favorite movie star or
basketball players.

Media And The Positive Effects Of Social Media
The positive effects of social media
What is your favorite social media source: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter Periscope, or maybe LinkedIn or dating sites? Social media has
grown extremely in the last years. For example, only in the second quarter of 2017, Facebook grew to more than two billion monthly active users,
including 236 million in the United States and Canada–two–thirds of the combined population of those countries (Enis). The social media makes our
life better, easier and more interesting. The Internet lets us use a lot of a different kind of social media for the different purpose. Every person can find
on the Internet what he/she wants. Maybe you want found friend traveling to China together or you need to find a job and courses, or you can't find a
soulmate in your area, so, you can try to find it on the Internet.
In the modern world, the main source of communications has become an Internet. Social media is one of the main parts of the Internet world.
These sites help us to post our comments, ideas, share our feelings, images, and videos (Dhanalakshmi). This can help people to find people with
same views and ideas. In the past, it was difficult to find friends and adherents. Now it happens quick (Hire). You can find friends for travel to the
North Pole or for playing to billiard, for doing yoga or building a boat together. Social Media helps people with disabilities to communicate with the
whole world and this awesome!
Social media is also a good source if you want a found a job. According to a survey conducted by Reppler.com of 300 hiring managers, 91 percent of
these hiring managers say they use social networking sites to screen prospective employees. 76 percent check Facebook, 53 percent check Twitter and
48 percent check LinkedIn (Hire). This means that anything you have on the social media sites is being looked at by potential employers. This is a
good thing because you can make your profile more suitable for a particular company or vacancy. If you already have a job or your own business and
find some customers, a social media can help you very quick. Many people's businesses are based on LinkedIn, Instagram, and others social media

News Media Effects
American culture has changed so much in the past century. Looking back to the 1900s there wasn't technology like we have today. Today with all the
technology and the capabilities of getting breaking news faster allows us to input that information in our minds and it eventually pulls people into the
conflict. There are pros and cons about whether we should get news faster or is the media adding fuel to the fire with stories. When you look at the
word responsibilities you often tend to think that it holds someone accountable whether its you, the media or a different country. When you look at
social responsibilities from the media you end up with a 50/50 chance of that information being true.
My next question is does the information media have social responsibility? Some may say no they don't have social responsibility. As for many of us
we tend to believe they do have social responsibility. They are responsible for what they are publishing. Let's look at an example of this. Let's say
I was to go downtown and make up a story. I then make a big scene to gather as many people as I can. Then as the people are listening and watching
I precede to tell them the local county officials are spending the tax payer's money on alcohol and private parties for themselves. At this point I
honestly don't know if they do but I heard it from a friend of mine. So, by hearing that I assume its true since that person is my friend. Well in this
case its not true but I end up getting arrested for defaming the officials. Now look at the media. They can publish an article making claims that the
presidential campaign is doing illegal activity. Do they get arrested for making false claims? The answer is no. Why is that? That's not very fair if you
think about it.
If the media is going to publish millions of stories just because they have journalists reporting back to them then that holds them accountable for the
story. They are taking the word from a person which they don't know if that journalist is tweaking the story to make it seem bigger then what it was. If
the media decides to base their decisions upon their scouters or what they hear then

4 EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON COLLEGE STUDENTS Statement of Problem To address the issue of the effectiveness of using social
networking, the first question raised in this study is: for what purpose is the student utilizing social networking? Research on this topic will start to
reveal social networking sites are simply part of how students interact with each other with no apparent impact on grades. Thus, the objective of this
research is to explore the advantages and disadvantages of students' use of social networking for study. The main purpose of this research is to expand
on previous research, explore the relationship between the effects of social networking and students' study efficiency, and to determine if social media
interfering with students' academic lives. Research Questions: Which is the most popular social media site for students? What is the amount of time
students spend utilizing social media in various academic processes? Review of the Literature College students have great interest in social media. For
the purpose of this study, social media was defined as Facebook, YouTube, Blogs, Twitter,MySpace or LinkedIn (Martin, 2008). Although, providing a

Negative Effects Of Social Media
What is Social Media? As stated on Dictionary.com, social media is "websites and other online means of communication that are used by large
groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts". There are a huge variety of social media sites such as,
Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Instagram, and YouTube. As our technology gets more and more advanced and new devices come out, social media
itself is growing as well. Because of the growth of social media, our lives are being effected every single day by it. These effects in our lives are not all
positive, but they are not all negative either. In today's world, social media has now started to affect our everyday lives. People no longer watch the
news or read the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Certain news stations use websites like Facebook to live stream a press conference or police chase as it is happening, which is useful to people
who will be traveling or who are trying to keep up to date, but don't have current access to a television. Social media also allows for the open
expression of your views. This allows others to see your opinion and share their similar ideas with you, or even express their opposing views.
Along with these positives, comes the negatives. If you go to a classroom and watch from the back, you'll notice how many students are using their
cell phones when the professor isn't looking, or who are using it out in the open without any care. This not only causes a distraction for themselves,
but to others as well. This is not the only time that social media can be causing a distraction either. While doing homework or studying, students tend
to easily get bored. Their fix to this is to take a break and get on social media. While a break can be good occasionally after long periods of studying,
sometimes, they may not return to their studying after picking up their phone.
Social Media's Effect on Political Thinking There isn't really a part of our lives that social media doesn't at least touch. When it comes to politics,
social media can have a huge effect. No matter how into politics someone is, social media sites can have a huge impact on a person's views about a
specific candidate or member. Someone who can have no information at

Negative Effects Of Media On Teens And Adolescents
"It doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, its what's on the inside that matters". We hear sayings such as this all the time, yet we live in a
society that contradicts this idea all day. There is no doubt that due to media, the way teens see themselves has changed. The media is setting unrealistic
beauty standards, which influences everyone, and this is having a derogatory effect on adolescents. The effect of media on teenagers is appalling.
These beauty standards are negatively affecting teenage girls as well as teenage boys. Also, due to the prominence of this issue, man aspects of media
are also launching several efforts to fix this
Firstly, media has greatly affected the way teenage girls now look at themselves and specifically at their bodies. This is encouraged by the ideal
body image that is created by the media. For some reason, the ideal image is portrayed as a skinny, tall size 2 model with perfect skin. Having an
hourglass body is also vital to this image. This is not a realistic image as not more than 15% of women actually look like this. Then there is the
concept of fat versus thick. This disgusting idea that if you have "extra fat" below your waist you are thick but if you have extra fat above your
waist than you are fat. In today's media being thick is a compliment yet no one wants to be fat. Due to this ideal body image not being realistic, it is
almost impossible for fashion companies to find models that fit so they have resorted to using a process called airbrushing. This involves retouching
photos to remove, what the media refers to as flaws. It can also be used to change or enhance the image. This converts photos using programs such as
photoshop to the point where they merely resemble the original. This distorts the reality of body image in teenage girls because when they see photos
in commercials and magazines they do not see the amount of time used to remove wrinkles and cellulite or the amount of time used to lengthen arms
and legs. This distortion of reality negativity influences girls which is proved by the increase in eating disorders among teenage girls. 70% of girls
have admitted to a study conducted by Dove that due to self–esteem they have stopped themselves from eating

Effects Of Media On Social Media
Media is something that we use, see, and hear every day, whether we notice it or not. The media surrounds our society in many ways; through social
media platforms, magazines, television, advertisements, etc. the media has been always around. The study of media and its effects on society is based
on the belief that mass communication has effects on individuals, society, and culture (Perse). Themedia continues to become more and more relevant
in our culture. Many people in our society today use the media daily. Also, there are many studies about social media and its effects on us. The
media affects the way we view body image in a negative way. The media has affected people for many years. It has been around since people have
been printing newspapers and broadcasting on the radio. Particularly, the media has an effect on youth and there are many studies and articles that
research how the media affects youth. One example is, in the article, "Social Media and Body Image Concerns: Further Considerations and Broader
Perspectives" written by Robert J. Williams and Lina A. Ricciardelli:
Social media are the main form of mass media being used by the youth of today, and researchers in the U.S. and Australia have commenced studying
how these may be affecting body image concerns. However, the processes underlying how social media may influence young people's body image
appear to be no different from underlying other forms of mass media. Research is needed to more fully evaluate youth's experiences of online
appearance culture and how this may foster both negative and positive peer interactions (Williams and Ricciardelli 389).
This quote discusses how youth today is affected by the media and their body image. Media has a direct effect on body image because the media
projects unrealistic body goals. This then can result in people developing anxiety or depression. Also, in some cases, people could develop eating
disorders in order to look like how people in the media are broadcasted. The media has such a strong influence on people every day since we are
always around it. In another article, it states, "Diana Vancura argues that the media emphasize appearance over talent, which negatively affects the body

The Negative Effects Of The Media
The media, as you may know, is something everyone is aware of. It is everywhere you look... In magazines, newspaper articles, television, the
internet, billboard ads and much more. Some find it a useful way to find out what's going on in the world or what significant events are on, others
might just use it as a source of entertainment, but often people can be affected by the media in a negative way. This is the topic I am going to
cover, how the media can affect people in a negative way, the main one that I'm going to cover is body image. But to be fair the media can also have
positive effects on people's well–beings. For example, it can influence people to donate to organizations to help, animals and people in need. Also, a
lot of commercials and billboards advertise helplines for victims of bullying which in the long run can prevent many things. Some of these
advertisements encourage us to feel that if we try hard enough, we can make a difference to the world. But as I mentioned before the media can
have a major negative impact on people's body image, most of these ads and commercials seem harmless, right? But actually they are one of the main
reasons that people don't feel comfortable in their own skin, this especially amongst young females. Statistics show that in New Zealand alone 52% of
females are dissatisfied with their own bodies. Why are these major companies and business using size 6/8 models, and why is it that we allow them to

Mass Media And Its Effects On Society
Final Essay While there have been ideas and mass media in which we have access to, there is small changes in which The United States as a whole
has been affected. There have been many discussions on how social media has played a part on American culture as we are becoming more reliant on
computers and technology as well as we have in communicating. Social media and mass media has an affect modern society as technology has grown,
so will its effects on people. Mass media and social media are, one social media is where anyone can exchange information to their friends and

form of TV, books, and newspapers. Mass media can be used by advertising in a way so they can sell to those, whom they might not be able to, if it
was not for the internet. Firstly, the question of how does social media on the Internet affect American culture, this can be answered in a few ways,
such as the young kids in our country as well as grownups have started to use short cuts when typing. Many people would want to type, "CU there",

Introduction With the recent increase in media presence throughout the world, there has also been an increase in violence portrayed through the media.
Media violence is believed to be causing aggression in today's youth and society. This paper will examine the potential reasons on how media violence
is causing aggression
Review of Literature
In a study conducted, media psychologists, mass communication scientists, pediatricians, and parents all completed an anonymous online survey that

In experiment one, fifty men and fifty women that were undergrad psychology students served as subjects. Ten subjects of each gender were randomly
assigned to see one of five videos that varied in violent content. The main dependent variable in the first experiment was the number of aggressive
thoughts listed by the subject immediately after watching the video. The second dependent variable was the subject's violence rating of the video they
viewed. Immediately after viewing the video, each subject filled out a set of 5–point rating scales indicating the degree to which the video had been
enjoyable, amusing, realistic, and violent. They found that, aggressive thoughts and violence ratings both increased with the level of violence in the
video which supported the hypothesis. Experiment 2 allowed a test of the replicability of the findings of Experiment 1 by including ratings of
videotape violence and listing of thoughts following observation of the tapes. This time, however, each subject was tested individually in a small
cubicle. The procedure was very similar except just prior to observing a videotape, the subject was given the adjective checklist, and baseline blood
pressure and pulse rate were measured. During the showing of the video, the subject's blood pressure and pulse rate were measured three times during
a 2–min interval. After viewing the videotape, the subject listed their thoughts, rated the video, provided information about television viewing habits,

Media And Its Effects On The Media Essay
In modern societies, the availability of information is vital to better decision making by voters, consumers, and investors. Much of that information is
provided by the media, such as newspapers, television, and radio, which collect information and make it available to the public. As Americans, we trust
what reporters write in the newspaper, and say on television and radio stations. Although we expect them to report the truth, current media outlets
distort thier stories and give certain news reports disproportionate attention. The most important stories are often never seen on Television, read in the
newspaper, or heard on the radio stations, while minor and trivial stories get the most news coverage. Hence celebrity engagements, divorce, entrance in
rehabilitation centers and DUI cases are sold to the media and then regurgitated to us Americans which are left with inconsequential information. The
media actually makes sure to feed us distracting information to keep us from the truth and avoid social movements that can highly affect the "one
percent" of the USA. Mainstream media has the power to misinform the public therefore becoming in a way a social movement against public spheres
and social movements created by the '99%' with the sole purpose of controlling the public power.

Effects of Media Violence
The potential relationship between media violence and actual aggression comes to the forefront of public discussion, but unfortunately this discussion
rarely takes into account the science related to the relationship between media violence and aggressive behavior. In particular, there is a widespread
assumption that media violence directly causes aggression and aggressive behavior, and this assumption has become so common that even secondary
scholarly discussions of the evidence have taken to relying on it despite the fact that there is no evidence for a causal relationship between the
consumption of media violence and aggressive behavior. While there is evidence suggesting a link between the two, correlation does not equal
causation, and examining this evidence in detail will help make the case that there is no direct cause and effect relationship between media violence
and aggressive behavior while simultaneously demonstrating the fallacy inherent in the counter arguments that have been proposed.
It will actually be useful to consider the counter arguments to this study's thesis before making the case that there is no causal relationship between
media violence and aggressive behavior, because these counter arguments tend to represent the consensus public view despite their lack of convincing
evidence. To begin, one must acknowledge that there is substantial, verifiable data indicating a link between media violence and aggressive behavior
(Boxer et. al. 417). This fact is

The Negative Effects Of The Media Affects Children
The media can manipulate the youth's ideas and thoughts and make them conform to the thoughts and ideas to those of the advertisers. Assuming that
the media does not care for the interest of the youth ,and children are susceptible to be manipulated because they have not fully formulated their own
opinions and ideas on certain subjects, therefore their premeditated conceptions are able to be changed easily because they can be influenced. Thus, the
media can negatively affect the youth and their viewpoints on controversial issues, their minds are still young and forming, so they will believe
whatever people say without doing further research for themselves to know it is factual or not.
The media is not looking out for the best interest of the youth. Advertising in the media can bring upon misinterpretation in a child's mind. Children are
exposed to advertising all day, whether it is on the television, their phone, or advertisements around the city "the advertisers have strategies to advertise
their products to children"(Barve G, Sood A, Nithya S, Virmani T). The media puts false images or ideas in their minds making the children believe
something that isn't true. The media does not care how it affects the child, but they should. It affects the children negatively because it is not an
accurate depiction of what they are advertising. Furthermore, all the advertising indeed has some effects on children because "research has stated that

Allyson Wells Effects of News Media
The effects or the news media in today's culture is tremendous. We use the news media not only to stay informed, but also as a way among many
Americans to form an opinion about certain topics in today's world. This information is provided to us through the use of sources such as television
news, radio and more and more the internet. These forms of information find themselves in a constant and perpetual news cycle within American
culture.
Social Responsibility in Reporting
The news media has a responsibility to the American people to ensure accuracy in a story. While these sources have the right to publish what they want,

The divisiveness of these practices can be tremendous. Personally, I tend to get my information from several sources, analyze the data, and then come
to a rational conclusion as to what I believe the truth to be. This approach has allowed me to look through the partisan viewpoint, allowing me to see
the bias in the everyday reporting.
Media Convergence
The convergence of media, especially the more traditional media sources taking to the internet, has been both a blessing and a curse. The ability to
report on anything in the world at a moment's notice has transformed the idea of journalism. The reporters of today are of no resemblance of the
reporters of the past. The folks who would spend weeks tracking down information and sources for a story now spend moments at a laptop
accomplishing what they consider to be the same thing. This has caused the current news media to have issues with both integrity and accuracy. In the
past, reporters would spend ample amounts of time gathering information, forming their thoughts, and writing the article. Even with the amount of time
they spent on this process, there was even more time allotted for checking and double checking their facts to ensure the accuracy and morality of the
story. Today's journalists have posted articles just moments after an event. This can be helpful in many ways, but also harmful. The immediate
gratification of posting an article negates any thought about

Social Media And The Bystander Effect
In April of 2017, a hardworking doctor was forced to leave and lugged off a plane for no apparent reason; soon after, a video of the incident was
posted online, causing outrage throughout our media–enhanced world. A woman's hopeless cry for help was not enough, and although several
passengers recorded the horrific episode, no one intervened nor did anyone help the passenger that had been treated so awfully. Technology gives us
emotional and physical comfort, whether that be in expressing feelings or chiming in on a controversial current event, in an age where social media has
an immense impact on our habits on and off the web; yet in reality, our phones, computers, and tablets are turning us into active bystanders allowing
and perhaps even amplifying the bystander effect. The diffusion of responsibility is a poison that begins with cell phone usage and spreads to social
media. Today, people are too reliant on technology and fail to comprehend that social media is not social activism. The Bystander Effect was first
demonstrated by psychologists Bibb LatanГ© and John Darley in 1968, four years after the brutal murder (encompassing thirty or more witnesses) of
Kitty Genovese. It is a social phenomenon in which observers believe that someone else in a group will intervene and offer help to a victim in need (1).
According to these psychologists, there are two important factors attributed to this phenomenon, social influence and a perceived diffusion of
responsibility. Social

Social media alone, on average, will consume five years and four months of a person's life, and that does not account for any other aspect of the internet
(Asano). Merriam Webster Dictionary defines social media as "forms of electronic communication through which users create online communities to
share information, ideas, personal messages, and other such content." Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, etc. are some of the more popular social
media sites. As with anything, there are side effects from the overuse of social media, and the majority of people do not realize the detrimental side

Humans are very social beings. If we feel isolated, it does not take long to become depressed. Social media can easily become the main source of
isolationistic feelings, and those feelings increase risk of developing both depression and suicide. Scrolling through social media, you see chunks
of peoples' lives, the perfect chunks. People post about the exciting and fun parts of their life, not the boring, everyday, serious aspects of life. In
an article from Psychology Today Dr. Vitelli says, "...checking on the status of our various Facebook friends...forces us to deal with people who are
either a) more successful than we are, or b) more attractive than we are...Facebook users may tend to regard themselves as "competing" with their
various Facebook friends and can often feel inadequate as a result." The competing and losing leads to depression, and when a person is depressed
and insecure they are more likely to bully. People hide behind the fake identities they created on the internet and bully peoplewithout ever leaving the
comfort of their home. A study conducted in Britain by the National Children Home found one in four kids being cyberbullied reported having
mental issues later in life (Amedie). It was also reported that middle school students who were bullied were twice as likely to commit suicide (Fairall,
June and Luxton), so not only does being cyberbullied increase the person's chance of developing mental issues, it also increases the likeliness of

First, it is important to consider that there are almost an unlimited number of other factors that can influence ones behavior. The reason an individual
will commit a violent act is based on millions of past experiences, memories, and actions. We know that media can affect behavior but how much is still
unknown.
In a closed off lab environment we can study how much media violence effects behavior. The strength of the correlation between media violence and
aggressive behavior found on meta–analysis (in the lab) is greater than the correlation between that of tobacco smoke and lung cancer. (Bar–on) So,
when everything else is taken away we can see that there is a definite correlation between violence in the media and violent behavior. The reason for
this is that people imitate what they see on TV. This is especially true for children.
Media does affect behavior. The problem is that we don't know how much because there are so many factors. Studies have been done but there is a lot
of inconclusive research.
Links to Society We know that violent media is very popular and a lot of people are exposed to it, also we know that in closed conditions it causes

relationships, family, and people's needs start to become less important. "The standard line was that people would rather shut off their refrigerator
than their television set" (Kang). Televisions may not be seen as social media at first, but with today's technology it can be. People can now view
social media on their TVs and use streaming services on them. Are TVs a necessity? Since it is not, why are people preferring TVs over refrigerators
which store food which is essential. If people are not using their refrigerators it is fine to cancel them, but where are they storing their cold foods and
liquids? " That attitude has prompted consumers to buy up that latest mobile gizmos despite an economic slump that is crimping spending in just about

Negative Effects Of Social Media
A Decline in Happiness May Correlate With Social Media Social Media is beneficial in many aspects of our lives. Whether social media is used
for linking up with old friends or sharing a memory with people, there are many ways being online can benefit one's life. Though there are positive
aspects, social media can be destructive to one's life as well. An old friend of mine, Emmie, used social media in ways that negatively affected her.
She was so unsatisfied with her existence in the real world, due to the fact she lied to everyone around her, she would use social media as people use
drugs. Emmie would go to social media to distract herself from the problems within her life. She was trying to fill a void that only real–life
connections could help. She would edit her face and photoshop her body to seem more appealing. Doing this induced people online to believe she
was above average while the people around her daily life would think less of her. She tried so hard to reach the "perfect standard," which resulted in
a detrimental outcome. She committed suicide, and much of it had to do with her own disapproval. Not attending to the reality of her existence
spawned an irreversible conclusion. Although social media offers positive aspects, it can be harmful because it generates jealousy and causes a
decline in happiness. Social media is used beneficially in a variety of different ways. One way is that it offers access to communicate with individuals

Media Effects On The Media Essay
Assignment One: Question B Many people believe that we are not affected when watching television (TV), however many experts feel we are
constantly affected by the media whether we think we are or not. Theorists believe that too much media exposure can lead to knowledge, attitudes
or behavioural changes within a society, this is called 'media effects' (Kuehn, "Media Effects"). These media effects consists of several Paradigms,
a Paradigm is described as "a typical pattern or model" (Kuehn, "Media Effects"). The Paradigms this essay will consist of are called the 'New
Effects Paradigm' and the 'Powerful Effects Paradigm'. The New Effects Paradigm is based largely upon correlations instead of causes, where as the
Powerful Effects Paradigm is based on persuasion and a passive audience that the media can have an enormous effect on (26). In the 1950's, Frederic
Wertham embarked on a media effects study through comic books. He found that the pictures depicting horror and superhero genres had violent and
sexual connotations that were understood to have a negative impact on younger viewers (Buettner et al. 95). Recently, there have been numerous
discussions that too much TV can affect young children's behaviour. The articles titled 'TV is making children unhappy' and 'NZ's little thugs' are just
a few of these examples. In the first article titled 'TV is making children unhappy' the author, Sarah Griffiths, builds on a discussion based on the ideas

The Negative Effects Of Social Media
Does social media provide benefits or is it damaging? This is a dilemma faced by both parents and teens today with numerous social media platforms
evolving and growing. While issues with social media can arise, such as excessive usage, an effort to balance work and entertainment must be
carefully achieved in order to live a fulfilling life. Undeniably, the benefits of social media, like easy sharing and starting conversations with others,
outweigh the detriments. Although social media can become addicting and hurtful, in general, it benefits society by providing unlimited amounts of
information, creating an equal platform for all, and allowing people to connect easily.
Primarily, social media has three common problems that affect the people use it frequently. The most notable of these problems is social media
addiction. Becoming addicted to anything is detrimental to a person's health, but social media is damaging both mentally and physically. A study done
in 2017 on 200 teenagers showed that "Social media addiction...significantly affects social connectedness" (Savci 1). The factors that were common in
social media addiction were –– "preoccupation with social media, unreasonable tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, continuity, replacement, continued
excessive use, deceiving, escape, and inner conflict" (Savci 2). All of these are extremely negative effects social media can have in one's life.
Additionally, one of the larger problems that arises is a loss of personal connections. When someone is absorbed in social media, it is easy to
become engrossed in how many followers one has and what everyone else is achieving. This can lead to less frequent conversations with people with
whom they are in contact with on a daily basis. In an article written by Curtis Silver, he states "having an exponentially high number of Facebook
friends means nothing as you can only maintain 150 social relationships" (Silver 445). There may be too much focus today on how many Instagram
followers someone has instead of the last time a person interacted with their grandparents or a significant friend or family member. The final aspect of
social media addiction that can become potentially destroying is jealousy. It is easy to imagine that

The Harm Consequences Of Social Media And Its Effects On...
There are 2.3 billion active social media users (Kit Smith 1). Meaning the majority of people go on social media every day. Social media is almost
a part of every teen's life it's how they stay connected and meet up with people. But social media may be worse than what most people would think.
It's leading to much worse things for teenagers that they won't see coming since social media is a huge part of their lives. Social media's negatives
outweigh the positives because it's causing long–term consequences and impacts teen's mental and emotional health. Social media affects things long
term because what you post, like, or repost on any site can be used against you in any way shape or form. The internet is forever even if someone
deletes it, it never truly goes away. On the one hand, some argue that there are long–term consequences on teenagers that are not taken into
consideration on social media. In an article by Michael Farrell a couple of teenagers ages 13, 16, and, 18 are on social media and he wants to
know what effects social media can have. Basically, he asks the parents how they find time with their busy lives to be on social media and how it

Mass Media Bias And Its Effect On The Media
Having control over an entire country's population's opinion is a powerful thing to have. Possessing that control would allow you to direct how the
population spends their money or even who they like and dislike in politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are expected to
give us information that is unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The topic I will be exploring is bias in the mainstream news media and
how it effects their viewers. This is an important topic in the field of communication because it has such a great impact on any country that uses mass
media to disseminate information. The information can be given to the viewers with a certain twist to intentionally shape their view of an event,
or it can be unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner they are reporting on the event. I am going to research how mass media news outlets
influence the viewers opinion, and what goes in to picking the news stories covered. These are controversial topics to get into, but important to
consider. They can have a very big impact on things like elections for a political office, support or dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion
of who is the hero in a certain story. My sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased towards one opinion, what the
effects are from this are, and who makes the determines the bias that is being displayed.

Essay on Media Effects on Body Image
With the tremendous effect the media has on men & women's body image/self–esteem, there are things the media and those being effected can do to
limit the impact. The media can change the portrayal of models in magazines, television, billboards, etc. By portraying unrealistic models, studies can
conclude that it causes a negative effect on men and women leading to eating disorders, self–esteem problems, and possibly even sometimes more
dramatic actions such as suicide (Groesz, Levine, and Murnen 2,4). So why always have these ultra–thin gorgeous female models and tall handsome

Last, more organizations such as, About–Face, fighting against negative images of women in the media could possibly help to decrease the problem.
About–Face is a non–profit organization out of San Francisco. It began in August of 1995 and their purpose is to combat negative and distorted
images of women in the media. They first started when an advertisement of Kate Moss for perfume was displayed and her body image was altered
and adjusted and made her look skeletal. They took that same poster had "Emaciation Stinks" in bold printed across the top and "Stop Starvation
Imagery" across the bottom of the poster and hung hundreds of their version all over the streets of San Francisco. This event gave many others the
motivation to voice their opinions on media's negative images of women and to also get involved in organizations such as About–Face (About–Face). If
more and more people learn about how much the media is effecting not only women but men and both of all ages, and get involved in more

social media, by teens today, social media is leading to unhealthy mental and physical side effects. It is important to publicly state these effects in
order to alert parents of what is happening to their teen. Through reading several articles on the subject, I quickly found and examined these
unfavorable side effects, by constantly using social media people are becoming more isolated, loosing interest in their education, relationships, and
experiencing several other psychological issues. Social media has taken over our county. According a study done by Georgia State University in

aspects, social media allows you to connect with friends and family across the world, social media gives you a chance to create stronger relationships
and to build new relationships. However, the drawback from using social media is that it doesn 't allow teens to have the real human interaction that

Therefore, social media are gradually killing "real activism and replacing it with 'slacktivism'"(Gaitho,2017).
Low Self–esteem.
One of the darker sides of social media, which affects youths, is identity crisis that it promotes to them.According to Professor S. Shyam Sunder, a
renowned researcher at Penn State, "The types of actions users take and the kinds of information they are adding to their profiles are a reflection of
their identities"(Karadkar,2015).Students have started to be gradually prone to have drastic mood swings and self–control which it is learned through

The Effects Of Digital Media On Society 's Media
It is undeniable that the society is experiencing a mediated culture, where mass media have direct effects on our society. Newspapers, magazines,
radios, and televisions constantly give out messages to promote products, attitudes, and ideas in an attempt to influence audiences. The effect is further
enhanced when digital media, particularly the Internet, enters the competition for the limited supply of audience attention. The saturated mass media
industry no longer has the benefit of reach it used to have, especially with millennials, in this attention economy filled with fragmented audiences
(Webster & Ksiazek 2012). More businesses and marketers have turned their efforts to digital media to influence consumers (Mulhern 2009). Therefore

However, digitization of information allows consumers to have the freedom to access news, books, music, and movies from a huge database
anywhere and anytime (Mulhern 2009). Free and paid online video streaming services like YouTube and NetFlix is able to provide the freedom that
traditional television cannot. The result is an increasing rate of cord cutting, where viewers drop their cable services (Coffee 2015). Traditional media
communication has been blasting messages at large audiences behind the screen, especially in advertising, instead of trying to establish a connection.
This causes annoyance amongst the audience who wants individual conversations, as they are increasingly individualized by digital media (Solis &
Breakenridge 2009). The audience who have been on the receiving end of one way communication of mass media can now communicate
bidirectionally on the internet and social media or even become content producers and transmitters. This decreases the influence of mass media as
audiences are increasingly used to the freedom of choosing what and how to view their media and also the ability to express their opinions and make
their presence felt. More and more people have switched from paid mass media as to digital media for information or entertainment as it is instant,

Negative Effects Of Media On Women
1.0 Introduction
According to a report published by the United States Census Bureau, American spends about 3952 hours on a yearly basis on using media with
approximately 1704 hours being used up watching television (Kaus and Thapar 2014). These numbers are equivalent to watching the television for
more than two months and five months on other forms of media. In addition to this, more than 70% of women have also dominated all forms of
media particularly the social networks (Kaus and Thapar 2014). Therefore, it is outright reasonable to state that what we spend our time on has a
direct impact on our lives. This premise has been the emphasis of many research studies. Most of these research reports have specifically looked at the
elements portrayed by media and their effect on our perception of ourselves. Furthermore, body satisfaction and self–esteem have been negatively
affected particularly by media. Therefore, it is critical to understand the role of media and how it affects the well–being of women (Kaus and Thapar
2014). Once we understand the role media plays in the lives of women, we can begin to understand how to reduce its negative effects. In the subsequent
literature review, different research studies that demystify the effects of media on women have been explored. Firstly, the studies that focus on the
general effect of media and its influence on women have been examined. Additionally, globalization of sociocultural values is also described and the

Effects Of Social Media In The Workplace
Social media has increasingly been on the rise for over the past 10 years, so has the concern on the effect of it being in the workplace. People are
spending more and more time on social media and other communication technology (Walder). Because of this, researchers have begun to wonder what
the effect will be in the workplace. The argument of social media in the workplace is on the rise, and will continue to grow as the Internet continues to
transform the way people are spending their time (Carlson).
In the past few years, social media has become a powerful influence as a new marketing tool. It is still relatively new, but it continues to be a part of
marketing strategy for various industries. According to the article "Integrating Social Media into the Workplace: A Study of Shifting Technology Use

The Negative Effects Of Social Media And Its Effects On...

  • 1. The Negative Effects Of Social Media And Its Effects On... In the last twenty years, a phenomenon known as social media has become popular, and with this phenomenon, people have started to be able to communicate and share their lives with others all over the world with ease, and this has brought the world together in a unique way. However, all good things have problems, and a multitude of problems have come from becoming addicted to using social media. In Fanni BГЎnyai's article "Problematic Social Media Use: Results from a Large–Scale Nationally Representative Adolescent Sample," she says, "Negative outcomes triggered by the excessive use of social media may have a detrimental effect on the personal, social, and/ or professional lives of the users." and I agree because it is easy to see the impact of social media overuse in the society of todays world. Social media is a fantastic thing that allows people to stay in touch with distant friends and family to share experiences, but social media also can become addictive and destroy face to face friendships, but these problems are fixed by planning time to use social media, and not posting everything an individual does. The invention of social media has made it possible for friends that meet while traveling, or the family that has people all over, or even the family that all lives in the same neighborhood, to stay in touch and share their daily experiences with each other. Social Media has made it possible for a woman in Greeneville, TN, to talk to and write messages to her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Negative Effects On Social Media Social media is used as a tool to talk to loved ones and friends to make us feel close to them, but it has been shown that social media has the exact opposite effect. It's makes some people feel alone, while other people live it up in trash cans with their egos as big as Rockefeller's network. Common sense seems to dictate that it would be smarter to not put so much value on one photo, but in the memories that those photos hold, but, nowadays people only care about the photos, not memories. Its result is a generation filled with young kids suffering with mental health problems. The study from the Association for Psychological Science states the likes you get on social media impacts the brains and behaviors of teenagers. The study found "the same brain circuits that are activated by eating chocolate and winning money are activated when teenagers see large numbers of "likes" on their own photos or the photos of peers in a social network" (APS). In other words, Teens have become, so dependent on social media, that getting one like is like winning money or eating chocolate. The study shows how teens have become obsessed for people to tell them their pretty and beautiful to fill their holes in their huge egos they can't be done by themselves anymore. The study also found that "when the teens saw their own photos with a large number of likes, we saw activity across a wide variety of regions in the brain, said lead author Lauren Sherman, a researcher in the brain mapping center and the UCLA branch of the Children's Digital Media Center, Los Angeles."(APS) Teens have become so full of themselves that they need every like on their Instagram photo to feed their ego monsters that hide where their soul should be, caring about likes than helping the poor or helping the elderly in their family. Social media also affects how teenagers act, "in [their] real lives, the influence of their friends is likely to be even more dramatic, said Mirella Dapretto, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at UCLA's Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior."(APS) With celebs like Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton shares everything in the public eye on social media, it makes perfect sense that teens would do what is ... • 3. Media And Technology : The Negative Effects Of Technology... There are many different arguments you could make on whether having so much media and technology is more negative or more positive. In our society today, everything we do is based off of technology: we post everything we do, stay in touch with people over social sites and base our lives around the technology we have. Personally, my family and I just went on vacation and with everything we did we had to take pictures. And with these pictures, my dad posted them on Facebook, a social media site where he can share these pictures with all his friends. Without both social media and technology, no one would know what to do with their lives. This is what keeps us feeling connected but this is not a good thing. These technology based activities are overrunning our lives. The society finds it easier and prefers to talk over text than face to face. Despite how much technology influences our daily lives, overall it has a negative impact and influence on both teenagers and kids in a plethora of different ways. Technology is most harmful to kids, who spend numerous amount of time on different devices. Whether it's their own Ipad, their parent's phone or sitting and watching TV, it all has the same negativeeffect on children's brains. More specifically technology has a worse effect on infant's brains who has had no chance to develop and whose brains are easily influenced. As Christakis recalls, "The more TV children watched as infants, the more likely they were to have attentional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Media And Its Effects On Society These days, sexism in the media is one of the top issues confronting women in Canada. Female political candidates often experience a toxic environment that can adversely affect their campaigns. The constantly changing media scene regularly permits harmful remarks to exist without responsibility. The under–representation of women in media is an all–inclusive wonder. Despite the fact that there have been improvements, women still fall behind men in numerical representation in government. The sexual orientation depiction studies have recorded that the media have been careless in reacting to sex equalization. This is not to say that all information conveyed by the media is heterogeneous, as unreasonable talk is additionally present. Be that as it may, the pervasive dispersal of prevailing philosophies holds on as a worry among minority populations, as their voices are regularly oppressed and disregarded inside standard media. Social movements, which can be approximately characterized as cognizant aggregate endeavors to change some parts of the social request, are hard to depict with accuracy. Major social movements contain inside themselves numerous subgroupings which may contrast in vital ways. The women 's movement, for instance, incorporates liberal, radical and Marxist women 's activists, ecofeminists, lesbian separatists and the individuals who view lesbianism as one way of life among others; in spite of the fact that these groupings debate about various issues, they do concede to the fundamental need to enhance the circumstance of women. The women 's movement has been working for social equity for women along a wide range of fronts, including legislative issues, culture, the mass media, law, instruction, wellbeing, the work power, religion, nature and home. Consolidating the battle against sexism with a battle against prejudice has turned out to be progressively imperative. • 5. The Negative Effects Of Smartphones And Social Media In the world we live in today everyone is connected to one another through their smartphones and social media, Although this has had positive effect on the world i believe that the negative effects outweigh the positive effects. The extensive use of smartphones and social media have made it harder for students to gather and obtain information due to their dependence on technology to easily gather it for them. Studies have shown that the increased use of social media and smartphone have lead to mental health problem among teens. With everyone so worried about their facebooks and instagrams they haven't been able to learn how to properly socialize with other people. Smartphones and social media have negatively affected students ability to obtain information, alter their emotional stability, and negatively influence their social skills. Smartphones and social media have made gathering information difficult for people in living in the world because they rely on their smartphone and other technology to obtain the information the need for them. This has affected people's ability to read and absorb information from long articles or book where they actually have to take the time to read them. In his article Is Google Making Us Stupid? Nicholas Carr argues that the use of technology has made it harder for him to read books or other long articles stating " My mind would get caught up in the narrative or the turns of the argument, and i'd spend hours strolling through long stretches of prose. That's rarely the case anymore. Now my concentration often starts to drift after two or three pages" (Carr 314). This quote is talking about Nicholas Carr's inability to concentrate on long piece of writing like he used to be able too. Carr blames this on his use of technology stating "I think i know what's going on. For more than a decade now, i've been spending alot of time online, searching and surfing and sometimes adding to the great databases of the internet... Research that once required days in the stacks or periodical rooms of libraries can now be done in minutes" (Carr 314). Nicholas Carr states this to put into perspective that technology is reducing the time and concentration it takes to research information the one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The act of gathering information used to be a much more tedious and physical endeavor. However, these days it can be done with ease thanks to the enormous developments in mass media distribution over the last century. The major mode of information distribution has went from mostly print to internet and everything in between. The amount of people reached has grown dramatically from a few hundred to millions in an instant. • 7. The Negative Effects Of Social Media Being a student, I guess the penetration rate about the social media for me is almost 100 percent. At least me and my friends use it every day. We probably used it to translate the words or chat with others. Even more, we use it for fun. Everyone use social media. Undisputed, social media is another way for us to keep communicating with each other. However, it could bring the negative and the positive effects for us. According to my personal experience, I think the social media is harmful for the students and It can bring a lot of negative effect for me. Nowadays, everyone has a cell phone and people need it so that they can get communicate with their parents or friends. To share their feelings after school or work. Furthermore, they need the cell phone to work. As the result, social media company catches the point that people need to share feelings. They keep updating the social media apps and put new applications on the shelves so that they can keep attractive and they can make profits. I used like to post my feelings and my exciting experience in the social media such as Wechat and Instagram. My friends just click like and eachtime when I get many likes I will be happier and feel satisfied. You never can't imagine how long when you down with using it one time. • 9. The Negative Effects Of The Information Media And The News... NEWS MEDIA EFFECTS HUM/186 Ricky Conard 8/06/2017 News Media Effects American culture has changed so much in the past century. Looking back to the 1900s there wasn't technology like we have today. Today with all the technology and the capabilities of getting breaking news faster allows us to input that information in our minds and it eventually pulls people into the conflict. There are pros and cons about whether we should get news faster or is the media adding fuel to the fire with stories. When you look at the word responsibilities you often tend to think that it holds someone accountable whether its you, the media or a different country. When you look at social responsibilities from the media you end up with a 50/50 chance of that information being true. My next question is does the information media have social responsibility? Some may say no they don't have social responsibility. As for many of us we tend to believe they do have social responsibility. They are responsible for what they are publishing. Let's look at an example of this. Let's say I was to go downtown and make up a story. I then make a big scene to gather as many people as I can. Then as the people are listening and watching I precede to tell them the local county officials are spending the tax payer's money on alcohol and private parties for themselves. At this point I honestly don't know if they do but I heard it from a friend of mine. So, by hearing that I assume its true since that person is my friend. Well in this case its not true but I end up getting arrested for defaming the officials. Now look at the media. They can publish an article making claims that the presidential campaign is doing illegal activity. Do they get arrested for making false claims? The answer is no. Why is that? That's not very fair if you think about it. If the media is going to publish millions of stories just because they have journalists reporting back to them then that holds them accountable for the story. They are taking the word from a person which they don't know if that journalist is tweaking the story to make it seem bigger then what it was. If the media decides to base their decisions upon their scouters or what they hear then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As stated on Dictionary.com, social media is "websites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts". There are a huge variety of social media sites such as, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Instagram, and YouTube. As our technology gets more and more advanced and new devices come out, social media itself is growing as well. Because of the growth of social media, our lives are being effected every single day by it. These effects in our lives are not all positive, but they are not all negative either. Certain news stations use websites like Facebook to live stream a press conference or police chase as it is happening, which is useful to people who will be traveling or who are trying to keep up to date, but don't have current access to a television. Social media also allows for the open expression of your views. This allows others to see your opinion and share their similar ideas with you, or even express their opposing views. Along with these positives, comes the negatives. If you go to a classroom and watch from the back, you'll notice how many students are using their cell phones when the professor isn't looking, or who are using it out in the open without any care. This not only causes a distraction for themselves, but to others as well. This is not the only time that social media can be causing a distraction either. While doing homework or studying, students tend to easily get bored. Their fix to this is to take a break and get on social media. While a break can be good occasionally after long periods of studying, sometimes, they may not return to their studying after picking up their phone. • 13. Negative Effects Of Media On Teens And Adolescents "It doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, its what's on the inside that matters". We hear sayings such as this all the time, yet we live in a society that contradicts this idea all day. There is no doubt that due to media, the way teens see themselves has changed. The media is setting unrealistic beauty standards, which influences everyone, and this is having a derogatory effect on adolescents. The effect of media on teenagers is appalling. These beauty standards are negatively affecting teenage girls as well as teenage boys. Also, due to the prominence of this issue, man aspects of media are also launching several efforts to fix this Firstly, media has greatly affected the way teenage girls now look at themselves and specifically at their bodies. This is encouraged by the ideal body image that is created by the media. For some reason, the ideal image is portrayed as a skinny, tall size 2 model with perfect skin. Having an hourglass body is also vital to this image. This is not a realistic image as not more than 15% of women actually look like this. Then there is the concept of fat versus thick. This disgusting idea that if you have "extra fat" below your waist you are thick but if you have extra fat above your waist than you are fat. In today's media being thick is a compliment yet no one wants to be fat. Due to this ideal body image not being realistic, it is almost impossible for fashion companies to find models that fit so they have resorted to using a process called airbrushing. This involves retouching photos to remove, what the media refers to as flaws. It can also be used to change or enhance the image. This converts photos using programs such as photoshop to the point where they merely resemble the original. This distorts the reality of body image in teenage girls because when they see photos in commercials and magazines they do not see the amount of time used to remove wrinkles and cellulite or the amount of time used to lengthen arms and legs. This distortion of reality negativity influences girls which is proved by the increase in eating disorders among teenage girls. 70% of girls have admitted to a study conducted by Dove that due to self–esteem they have stopped themselves from eating ... The media surrounds our society in many ways; through social media platforms, magazines, television, advertisements, etc. the media has been always around. The study of media and its effects on society is based on the belief that mass communication has effects on individuals, society, and culture (Perse). Themedia continues to become more and more relevant in our culture. Many people in our society today use the media daily. Also, there are many studies about social media and its effects on us. The media affects the way we view body image in a negative way. The media has affected people for many years. It has been around since people have been printing newspapers and broadcasting on the radio. Particularly, the media has an effect on youth and there are many studies and articles that research how the media affects youth. One example is, in the article, "Social Media and Body Image Concerns: Further Considerations and Broader Perspectives" written by Robert J. Williams and Lina A. Ricciardelli: Social media are the main form of mass media being used by the youth of today, and researchers in the U.S. and Australia have commenced studying how these may be affecting body image concerns. However, the processes underlying how social media may influence young people's body image appear to be no different from underlying other forms of mass media. Research is needed to more fully evaluate youth's experiences of online appearance culture and how this may foster both negative and positive peer interactions (Williams and Ricciardelli 389). This quote discusses how youth today is affected by the media and their body image. Media has a direct effect on body image because the media projects unrealistic body goals. This then can result in people developing anxiety or depression. Also, in some cases, people could develop eating disorders in order to look like how people in the media are broadcasted. The media has such a strong influence on people every day since we are always around it. In another article, it states, "Diana Vancura argues that the media emphasize appearance over talent, which negatively affects the body image ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some find it a useful way to find out what's going on in the world or what significant events are on, others might just use it as a source of entertainment, but often people can be affected by the media in a negative way. This is the topic I am going to cover, how the media can affect people in a negative way, the main one that I'm going to cover is body image. But to be fair the media can also have positive effects on people's well–beings. For example, it can influence people to donate to organizations to help, animals and people in need. Also, a lot of commercials and billboards advertise helplines for victims of bullying which in the long run can prevent many things. Some of these advertisements encourage us to feel that if we try hard enough, we can make a difference to the world. But as I mentioned before the media can have a major negative impact on people's body image, most of these ads and commercials seem harmless, right? But actually they are one of the main reasons that people don't feel comfortable in their own skin, this especially amongst young females. Firstly, the question of how does social media on the Internet affect American culture, this can be answered in a few ways, such as the young kids in our country as well as grownups have started to use short cuts when typing. The second dependent variable was the subject's violence rating of the video they viewed. Immediately after viewing the video, each subject filled out a set of 5–point rating scales indicating the degree to which the video had been enjoyable, amusing, realistic, and violent. They found that, aggressive thoughts and violence ratings both increased with the level of violence in the video which supported the hypothesis. • 19. Media And Its Effects On The Media Essay In modern societies, the availability of information is vital to better decision making by voters, consumers, and investors. Much of that information is provided by the media, such as newspapers, television, and radio, which collect information and make it available to the public. As Americans, we trust what reporters write in the newspaper, and say on television and radio stations. Although we expect them to report the truth, current media outlets distort thier stories and give certain news reports disproportionate attention. The most important stories are often never seen on Television, read in the newspaper, or heard on the radio stations, while minor and trivial stories get the most news coverage. Hence celebrity engagements, divorce, entrance in rehabilitation centers and DUI cases are sold to the media and then regurgitated to us Americans which are left with inconsequential information. Effects of Media Violence The potential relationship between media violence and actual aggression comes to the forefront of public discussion, but unfortunately this discussion rarely takes into account the science related to the relationship between media violence and aggressive behavior. In particular, there is a widespread assumption that media violence directly causes aggression and aggressive behavior, and this assumption has become so common that even secondary scholarly discussions of the evidence have taken to relying on it despite the fact that there is no evidence for a causal relationship between the consumption of media violence and aggressive behavior. While there is evidence suggesting a link between the two, correlation does not equal causation, and examining this evidence in detail will help make the case that there is no direct cause and effect relationship between media violence and aggressive behavior while simultaneously demonstrating the fallacy inherent in the counter arguments that have been proposed. It will actually be useful to consider the counter arguments to this study's thesis before making the case that there is no causal relationship between media violence and aggressive behavior, because these counter arguments tend to represent the consensus public view despite their lack of convincing evidence. To begin, one must acknowledge that there is substantial, verifiable data indicating a link between media violence and aggressive behavior (Boxer et. al. 417). This fact is ... Media Convergence The convergence of media, especially the more traditional media sources taking to the internet, has been both a blessing and a curse. A woman's hopeless cry for help was not enough, and although several passengers recorded the horrific episode, no one intervened nor did anyone help the passenger that had been treated so awfully. Technology gives us emotional and physical comfort, whether that be in expressing feelings or chiming in on a controversial current event, in an age where social media has an immense impact on our habits on and off the web; yet in reality, our phones, computers, and tablets are turning us into active bystanders allowing and perhaps even amplifying the bystander effect. The diffusion of responsibility is a poison that begins with cell phone usage and spreads to social media. Today, people are too reliant on technology and fail to comprehend that social media is not social activism. The Bystander Effect was first demonstrated by psychologists Bibb LatanГ© and John Darley in 1968, four years after the brutal murder (encompassing thirty or more witnesses) of Kitty Genovese. It is a social phenomenon in which observers believe that someone else in a group will intervene and offer help to a victim in need (1). Whether social media is used for linking up with old friends or sharing a memory with people, there are many ways being online can benefit one's life. Though there are positive aspects, social media can be destructive to one's life as well. An old friend of mine, Emmie, used social media in ways that negatively affected her. She was so unsatisfied with her existence in the real world, due to the fact she lied to everyone around her, she would use social media as people use drugs. Emmie would go to social media to distract herself from the problems within her life. She was trying to fill a void that only real–life connections could help. She would edit her face and photoshop her body to seem more appealing. Doing this induced people online to believe she was above average while the people around her daily life would think less of her. She tried so hard to reach the "perfect standard," which resulted in a detrimental outcome. She committed suicide, and much of it had to do with her own disapproval. Not attending to the reality of her existence spawned an irreversible conclusion. Media Effects On The Media Essay Assignment One: Question B Many people believe that we are not affected when watching television (TV), however many experts feel we are constantly affected by the media whether we think we are or not. Theorists believe that too much media exposure can lead to knowledge, attitudes or behavioural changes within a society, this is called 'media effects' (Kuehn, "Media Effects"). These media effects consists of several Paradigms, a Paradigm is described as "a typical pattern or model" (Kuehn, "Media Effects"). The Paradigms this essay will consist of are called the 'New Effects Paradigm' and the 'Powerful Effects Paradigm'. The New Effects Paradigm is based largely upon correlations instead of causes, where as the Powerful Effects Paradigm is based on persuasion and a passive audience that the media can have an enormous effect on (26). In the 1950's, Frederic Wertham embarked on a media effects study through comic books. He found that the pictures depicting horror and superhero genres had violent and sexual connotations that were understood to have a negative impact on younger viewers (Buettner et al. 95). This is a dilemma faced by both parents and teens today with numerous social media platforms evolving and growing. While issues with social media can arise, such as excessive usage, an effort to balance work and entertainment must be carefully achieved in order to live a fulfilling life. Undeniably, the benefits of social media, like easy sharing and starting conversations with others, outweigh the detriments. Although social media can become addicting and hurtful, in general, it benefits society by providing unlimited amounts of information, creating an equal platform for all, and allowing people to connect easily. Primarily, social media has three common problems that affect the people use it frequently. The most notable of these problems is social media addiction. Becoming addicted to anything is detrimental to a person's health, but social media is damaging both mentally and physically. A study done in 2017 on 200 teenagers showed that "Social media addiction...significantly affects social connectedness" (Savci 1). The factors that were common in social media addiction were –– "preoccupation with social media, unreasonable tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, continuity, replacement, continued excessive use, deceiving, escape, and inner conflict" (Savci 2). All of these are extremely negative effects social media can have in one's life. Additionally, one of the larger problems that arises is a loss of personal connections. When someone is absorbed in social media, it is easy to become engrossed in how many followers one has and what everyone else is achieving. This can lead to less frequent conversations with people with whom they are in contact with on a daily basis. In an article written by Curtis Silver, he states "having an exponentially high number of Facebook friends means nothing as you can only maintain 150 social relationships" (Silver 445). There may be too much focus today on how many Instagram followers someone has instead of the last time a person interacted with their grandparents or a significant friend or family member. The final aspect of social media addiction that can become potentially destroying is jealousy. It is easy to imagine that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Harm Consequences Of Social Media And Its Effects On... There are 2.3 billion active social media users (Kit Smith 1). Meaning the majority of people go on social media every day. Social media is almost a part of every teen's life it's how they stay connected and meet up with people. But social media may be worse than what most people would think. It's leading to much worse things for teenagers that they won't see coming since social media is a huge part of their lives. Social media's negatives outweigh the positives because it's causing long–term consequences and impacts teen's mental and emotional health. Social media affects things long term because what you post, like, or repost on any site can be used against you in any way shape or form. The internet is forever even if someone deletes it, it never truly goes away. On the one hand, some argue that there are long–term consequences on teenagers that are not taken into consideration on social media. In an article by Michael Farrell a couple of teenagers ages 13, 16, and, 18 are on social media and he wants to know what effects social media can have. Basically, he asks the parents how they find time with their busy lives to be on social media and how it affects their lives. • 33. Mass Media Bias And Its Effect On The Media Having control over an entire country's population's opinion is a powerful thing to have. Possessing that control would allow you to direct how the population spends their money or even who they like and dislike in politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are expected to give us information that is unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The topic I will be exploring is bias in the mainstream news media and how it effects their viewers. This is an important topic in the field of communication because it has such a great impact on any country that uses mass media to disseminate information. The information can be given to the viewers with a certain twist to intentionally shape their view of an event, or it can be unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner they are reporting on the event. I am going to research how mass media news outlets influence the viewers opinion, and what goes in to picking the news stories covered. These are controversial topics to get into, but important to consider. They can have a very big impact on things like elections for a political office, support or dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion of who is the hero in a certain story. My sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased towards one opinion, what the effects are from this are, and who makes the determines the bias that is being displayed. • 34. Essay on Media Effects on Body Image With the tremendous effect the media has on men & women's body image/self–esteem, there are things the media and those being effected can do to limit the impact. The media can change the portrayal of models in magazines, television, billboards, etc. By portraying unrealistic models, studies can conclude that it causes a negative effect on men and women leading to eating disorders, self–esteem problems, and possibly even sometimes more dramatic actions such as suicide (Groesz, Levine, and Murnen 2,4). So why always have these ultra–thin gorgeous female models and tall handsome masculine models in magazine ads, billboards ads, etc.? Last, more organizations such as, About–Face, fighting against negative images of women in the media could possibly help to decrease the problem. About–Face is a non–profit organization out of San Francisco. It began in August of 1995 and their purpose is to combat negative and distorted images of women in the media. They first started when an advertisement of Kate Moss for perfume was displayed and her body image was altered and adjusted and made her look skeletal. They took that same poster had "Emaciation Stinks" in bold printed across the top and "Stop Starvation Imagery" across the bottom of the poster and hung hundreds of their version all over the streets of San Francisco. This event gave many others the motivation to voice their opinions on media's negative images of women and to also get involved in organizations such as About–Face (About–Face). If more and more people learn about how much the media is effecting not only women but men and both of all ages, and get involved in more organizations that battle against this, it might not stop the media from doing what they are doing, but it could help others to follow their footsteps instead of falling into the media's negative wrath of unrealistic body image ... • 35. The Effects Of Social Media On Teens What effects does social media have on on teens? After reading the book Mediated by Thomas de Zengotita I had realized the over the too use of social media, by teens today, social media is leading to unhealthy mental and physical side effects. It is important to publicly state these effects in order to alert parents of what is happening to their teen. Through reading several articles on the subject, I quickly found and examined these unfavorable side effects, by constantly using social media people are becoming more isolated, loosing interest in their education, relationships, and experiencing several other psychological issues. Social media has taken over our county. According a study done by Georgia State University in 2013 "around 50% of teens used social media sites the number grew dramatically from 25% in 2009." Social media has both good aspects and bad aspects, social media allows you to connect with friends and family across the world, social media gives you a chance to create stronger relationships and to build new relationships. However, the drawback from using social media is that it doesn 't allow teens to have the real human interaction that you get when you talk to someone face to face. In addition, using social media demonstrated to spread untruthful, and sometimes personal information. One of the darker sides of social media, which affects youths, is identity crisis that it promotes to them.According to Professor S. • 37. The Effects Of Digital Media On Society 's Media It is undeniable that the society is experiencing a mediated culture, where mass media have direct effects on our society. Newspapers, magazines, radios, and televisions constantly give out messages to promote products, attitudes, and ideas in an attempt to influence audiences. The effect is further enhanced when digital media, particularly the Internet, enters the competition for the limited supply of audience attention. The saturated mass media industry no longer has the benefit of reach it used to have, especially with millennials, in this attention economy filled with fragmented audiences (Webster & Ksiazek 2012). However, digitization of information allows consumers to have the freedom to access news, books, music, and movies from a huge database anywhere and anytime (Mulhern 2009). Free and paid online video streaming services like YouTube and NetFlix is able to provide the freedom that traditional television cannot. The result is an increasing rate of cord cutting, where viewers drop their cable services (Coffee 2015). Traditional media communication has been blasting messages at large audiences behind the screen, especially in advertising, instead of trying to establish a connection. This causes annoyance amongst the audience who wants individual conversations, as they are increasingly individualized by digital media (Solis & Breakenridge 2009). The audience who have been on the receiving end of one way communication of mass media can now communicate bidirectionally on the internet and social media or even become content producers and transmitters. This decreases the influence of mass media as audiences are increasingly used to the freedom of choosing what and how to view their media and also the ability to express their opinions and make their presence felt. • 39. Negative Effects Of Media On Women 1.0 Introduction According to a report published by the United States Census Bureau, American spends about 3952 hours on a yearly basis on using media with approximately 1704 hours being used up watching television (Kaus and Thapar 2014). These numbers are equivalent to watching the television for more than two months and five months on other forms of media. In addition to this, more than 70% of women have also dominated all forms of media particularly the social networks (Kaus and Thapar 2014). Therefore, it is outright reasonable to state that what we spend our time on has a direct impact on our lives. This premise has been the emphasis of many research studies. Most of these research reports have specifically looked at the elements portrayed by media and their effect on our perception of ourselves. Furthermore, body satisfaction and self–esteem have been negatively affected particularly by media. Therefore, it is critical to understand the role of media and how it affects the well–being of women (Kaus and Thapar 2014). Once we understand the role media plays in the lives of women, we can begin to understand how to reduce its negative effects. In the subsequent literature review, different research studies that demystify the effects of media on women have been explored. Firstly, the studies that focus on the general effect of media and its influence on women have been examined. Additionally, globalization of sociocultural values is also described and the studies that focus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
