Sabeer Bhatia is an Indian-born entrepreneur who co-founded Hotmail, one of the first web-based email services, in 1996. After studying at the California Institute of Technology and Stanford University, he worked briefly at Apple before launching Hotmail with the goal of providing free email access via web browsers. Hotmail grew rapidly after its launch, reaching over 8.5 million subscribers by 1997 when Microsoft acquired it for $400 million, adding it to the MSN network of services.
