IT and human capital: Yin and Yang in your digital workplaceXylos
Is your digital workplace a technologically advanced environment, but are you still worried because the expected added value for your company isn’t showing yet? There’s a simple reason for this: your IT department isn’t the only motor that drives your digital transformation’s success. You only really start winning when your colleagues are ready and willing to change. But how do you activate your most important ambassadors, such as management, and encourage your colleagues to jump on (or even pull) the bandwagon? In this interactive session, we’ll give you practical tips to help you set up a plan.

Do inclusiveness and innovativeness have a shared destiny or a common heritage?Dormain Drewitz
Presented at Women Transforming Technology 2019 - Emerging Leader Track
Abstract:
Learning organizations, curiosity, asking questions over making assumptions… These qualities describe how innovative teams operate. It turns out, they are also ingredients for a more inclusive culture. Whether or not you agree that more innovation is a by-product of a more inclusive culture, the benefits of these qualities ring true.
This talk will explore the intersection between habits, practices, and behaviors that promote inclusiveness and those that promote innovation. For busy technology leaders, that intersection provides somewhere to focus, a starting point. Iterating towards being a leader that promotes innovation and inclusion starts with small, concrete steps. Let’s illuminate what those steps could be.

A traditional client-to-service provider work relationship is predicated on a hierarchy in which the needs and wishes of the client take precedence over all other considerations. In a rapidly paced work world under the increasing influence of accelerated technological change, such a traditional approach can have detrimental effects on the wellbeing of employees. The question with which service providers today must grapple is: How can we maintain our customer focus and ensure continued customer satisfaction while at the same time protecting the wellbeing of our team members?
The concept of “New Work” offers several suggestions for how to reconcile these seemingly competing needs. New Work encompasses a wealth of theories and methods relating to the organization of work, from self-organization to agility and modern leadership, to new work spaces, among many others. In this talk, we focus on our experience with implementing one such concept.
In this session, Gavin Kelly and Rob Girling, co-founders and principals of design and innovation company Artefact, will explore how crowdsourcing together with a strong maker culture can propel companies on a path to invention and innovation. Using their own experience in building an innovation platform, they will share insight and lessons on how to build a culture of innovation.
We all know that adhering to the principles of Agile can bring benefits to an individual, team or organisation. However, whilst Agile methods can help in realising those benefits, they can also bring a lot of danger to their users.
In this session discover what those risks are, how to avoid them, and the advice we should give others when they embark on an Agile journey.
In addition to presenting topics such as “Overcoming dogma”, “Why we can’t just RTFM”, and “Are we Agile yet?”, he will highlight how these sometimes comical observations can cause real damage to an organisation, fostering further debate and discussion.

Doing #noProjects in Large Organizations (Codemotion 2015)Unai Roldán
Doing PRODUCTs in Large Organizations
- Empower people: Create stable teams
- Focus on value: Organizing around value
- Flow, …flow faster!: Product development flow

Content Strategy for Slow Experiences at Web Design DayMargot Bloomstein
Online experiences can be fast, efficient, easy, orderly—and sometimes, that's a recipe for disaster. Users click confirm too soon, confuse important details, or miss a key feature in a product description. Efficient isn't always effective. Not all experiences need to be fast to be functional. In fact, some of the most memorable and profitable engagements are slow and messy... and that’s just right.
By designing for pace, we can intentionally help users focus on details and gain confidence in their choices. We can also encourage their sense of discovery and help them build stronger memories. Not all experiences need to be slower, but content strategy can help identify and support these outliers of user experience. We’ll look at REI, Target, Patagonia, Disney, and others for lessons you can apply to aid learning, retention, and user satisfaction. Help your audience soak up the journey or just engage with more certainty, all with more deliberate content strategy.
Presented at Web Design Day in Pittsburgh, #WDD2015, June 12, 2015.
This year’s MIT Sloan Management Review and Deloitte global study of digital business found that digital transformation isn’t really about the technologies. Instead, it stems from how companies integrate them to transform their businesses and how they work.

European University Barcelona Campus: Beyond Budgeting – A (Secret) Performan...Fabiola Eyholzer
Barcelona, Spain | Mar-12-2015
Forbes Magazine calls Agile “The Best Kept Secret in Management” and industry leaders and key players across all industries are already embracing lean | agile – a leadership philosophy with a set of tools and techniques based on specific values and principles – with the goal of making their organizations more responsive, innovative, and engaging.
Besides applying a toolset instrumental for driving innovation, reducing time-to-market, and improving customer satisfaction, companies are revising and realigning their leadership approach in order to ensure not only precise, but also fast and flexible decisions, swift accomplishments, and valuable interactions. This will alter their approach towards providing, managing, and monitoring their initiatives and resources and help them meet the demands of a constantly and rapidly changing business environment. Lean | agile provides them with an unparalleled competitive advantage that will impact their bottom line in a positive and sustainable manner.
This presentation focuses on the characteristics of Lean | Agile enterprises and how they approach financial planning and investment approaches in a more flexible way. We talk about “Beyond Budgeting” (also known as “Beta-Complex”) that eliminate traditional budget and budget reporting and discuss their validity and impact.

EVPs - Beyond the Theory: the challenges of EVP implementationHavas People
More and more organisations are viewing a clearly articulated employer brand as a powerful tool to help recruit – and retain – the right talent.
However, in our experience, the process can falter when we move beyond the theoretical research and creative development stages and actually implement and activate an Employee Value Proposition (EVP) within an organisation.
Graeme Wright, Strategy Director at Havas People; Sarah Cheyne, Global Head of Talent Acquisition Brand and Attraction at Zurich Insurance Group; Nick Francis, Creative Director at Casual Films and Danni Brace, Head of Global Client Development at Havas People explore the issues around EVP implementation – and what you can do to address them.
Case studies on the challenges from a marketing/branding perspective as well as the role of video in bringing the employer branding alive are presented. And we look at a successful example of brand creation and activation from a well-known consumer brand.

5 Tips for Creating a Customer-Centric Learning StrategyLaura Overton
A self-directed and personalised learning experience is high on the agenda of most learning professionals. Despite new technologies, new content and new models of learning, we still struggle to engage and connect. So do L&D leaders put learners at the centre of their ‘learner-centric’ strategies? Or do we just think that we do?
Successful organisations are engaging in new approaches to learning and performance, but formal learning opportunities need to change.
This report considers how L&D leaders can transform formal learning in their organisation. Looking at the learner journey, the role of technology and the role of the classroom trainer, this report aims to build confidence in innovation by learning from the most successful organisations.
