The Importance Of Interdiscipline
These are important, because both biology and sociology are concerned with human as well as animals in the society, and sociology is the structure
and function of human society. In as much disciplines have a link with interdisciplines, it is important to note that both has difference ideology in the
academic studies. Interdiscuplines is a form of knowledge that create or establish field of study that enable student produce, ask question, solve
problem, and explain words with understanding as well as create some new ideas. And discipline is a field of study that has already establish by
interdisciplinarity, that consist of two or more disciplines. Interdisciplines have over the period demonstrated it important and link to disciplines. Graff
states, "the accepted view makes interdisciplines more or less standard from one field to another in the science and social science as well as technical
field." (Graff 2015, 13). It is clearly understood that formation among science have links with biology and other science courses.
Discipline is considered as a branch of knowledge from which students get their higher learning that enable them classify a social science within the
field of humanities. These disciplines enable professionals and scholars come together as a unify force toward making plans and policies among
Professionals from difference field of disciplines. They sometime meet to plan and review ideas that best suit decisions for universities, colleges and

Analysis Of The Book ' The Pursuit Of A Romance '
The Pursuit to Discover
A.S. Byatt's Possession: A Romance establishes itself as a postmodern university novel because it centers on the field of research and academia
development through a campus setting. Roland Mitchell, the protagonist of the story, is a postdoctoral and literary researcher who is more focused on
academia than job prospects, fixing his crumbling relationship with his girlfriend Val, and overall taking part in mandatory obligations such as
household contribution, that primarily falls on Val. The audience is introduced to Roland as he studies: "The London Library was Roland 's favourite
place. It was shabby but civilised, alive with history but inhabited also by living poets and thinkers who could be found squatting on the slotted metal
floors of the stacks, or arguing pleasantly at the turning of the stair" (4). The novel centers on Roland's discovery of two letters written by fictional
Victorian poets, Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte. Roland prides and invests the majority of his time to research and decoding these
letters, in hopes of pursing a top academic standing in his field. Possession focuses on the themes of history, academic pursuit, and the downfalls of an
obsession.
Foremost, in order to classify Possession as university novel, one must first understand what a university novel is. In J.J. William's terms: "Campus
novels" tend to revolve around campus life and present young adult comedies or dramas, most frequently coming–of–age

The Importance Of Cultural Differences Between Chinese And...
Understanding and upholding respect for different cultures should be a social norm. Fascinatingly, the amount of various cultures around the world is
humbling– with no two being alike. Although, Chinese culture has evolved through many, many years and some ancient traditions still uphold. Face,
"guanxi," which broadly speaking, means connections and many other cultural normalities are constantly changing in China, yet there is basic threshold
of cultural competency that is still important to acquire before any amount of business can be done there. Researching these specific cultural
characteristics helped me understand several key cultural concepts that must be understood in order for useful personal and business dealings. Having a
basic knowledge of Chinese history, political, economic and social challenges the country faces is necessary background knowledge before evening
entering the country. Knowing the Chinese etiquette and understanding our cultural differences from Westernculture in comparison to the Chinese
culture can only help enhance business relations and avoid any embarrassing faux pas.
Art and Literature
There are a wide variety of differences between the Chinese and Western cultures forms of art and literature. The differences in art between western
and Chinese culture grow with the addition of the importance of calligraphy. In the US calligraphy is not something of great importance at all. In fact
it is a very secluded and almost unknown trait or talent.

Chapter 5 Of John Foster's Patterns '
Chapter 5, "Patterns," the author gives a warning to be on the lookout for patterns, archetypes, and recurrences. He reminds us that all literature contains
bits and pieces of other works from other places. Foster dives into further detail by stating the fact that people don't necessarily copy other literature, the
ideas become concreted in society's cultural dialogue. All literature is founded on its predecessors. The authors expect the readers to infer on things and
they test our knowledge on culture, history, and literature. Intertextuality is the continuous interaction between different literary pieces. Foster gives us
articles to look for to help us understand the similarities and they are; patterns, archetypes, symbols, and literary

Summary Of Digital Humanism By Dave Parry
Dave Parry presents a more suitable definition for digital humanities opposed to the other two. His definition of DH is to view the digital humanities
as new approaches of scholarship, as modifications in not the tools in humanistic studies, but in the scholarship itself. Regardless of the concentration
of work being done, using the digital creates a whole new way of working. Parry finds the first form of DH quite dull because he's not fascinated in
study that looks for the frequency of words. Rather, the author wants a more significant role for the digital humanities than being a way of analyzing
text faster. He wants more focus on the humanities and the way the digital humanities has impacted the lives of people. Contrary to the two other ...

His ending lines of the essay were very out of the ordinary. For the most part, the author reinforces their main argument in the ending lines, but in
Parry's conclusion, he composes a joke out of the competing definitions of DH. Instead emphasizing his arguments, he shifts all the attention onto the
academy and digital humanists, and more notably, how they will deal with the way the digital alters humanism in the future. Without a doubt,
Parry's paper is remarkable, but I think there are a few areas he could work on which could help make his essay stand out even more. The use of
sources was great, but throughout his paper, I think Parry used quite a bit of sources that weren't really essential to his main arguments. Rather than
constantly building off others, I would've liked to read more about his own personal view s. Lastly, I would just want to know why exactly Parry
believes the first meaning of DH would win in the ongoing debate surrounding the digital

Essay on WRACK TECHNIQUES
WRACK TECHNIQUES
Note book is a mixture of fact, fiction and speculation.
Your task as reader is to discover the truth.
Bradley makes use of historical incidents and real people. He also draws inspiration from other texts. This is called intertextuality. For example he
draws on Conrad's book Heart of Darkness to explore the darkness in man's heart. His character Kurt parallels Conrad's Kurtz.
He also quotes from Ondaatje p.37 to develop his idea about maps "whose portraits have nothing to do with surface." This coupled with his narrative
about the explorers in the Age of Colonialism
Develops the idea that reality can be deceptive. It can hold hidden dangers and often are a false premise to start a quest. This links to

We need to decide what is true and accurate. His monologues are reflective narratives and the events took place at least 50 years ago. How true would
be the memory of a drug addict?? We also have to rely on his version of events.
Both share similarities in they are emotionally damaged (Tania and Veronica) so the reader discovers and speculates about the nature of relationships.
The second story is David's quest for both the ship and for some contentment in his personal life. His story is revealed by 3rd person narration .David
is tormented by his wife's death and is struggling to find love and friendship with Claire. .
The description of their relationship draws on the language of navigation and discovery. She is seen as "undiscovered country" p.32 and David is a
"battered vessel". The narrator suggests there is no map for love Trust in mas is like trust in love' little is what it seems.
Both stories suggest on a personal level that the mind is uncharted and difficult to understand. We see Claire working at self–discovery. David too has
to navigate through his emotions; his grief to find some middle ground with Claire.
The third story is about the age of discovery. This involves comments about maps along with examples some true some not of explorers. All serve to
suggest science is not exact and the process of discovery holds many dangers. The historical narrative uses a factual and formal language to

Positive And Negative Effects Of Dictatorships
I have always found the human need for power and domination interesting, which is why I choose it for the Research Project. I am interested about
how the Dictatorial style of government affects the overall growth of the humanities globally. My goal for this project is to research and understand the
positive and negative effects of dictatorships on the academic growth as well as growth in the humanities. There are clear negative effects like the loss of
literature in countries such as Germany, where specific types of book from certain eras were burned. In addition to that there are positives such as
leaders focusing on education more than other areas of government spending. The paper that would be written using the information gathered through
research on this topic would be persuasive, arguing that though there are some positive effects, dictatorships have an overall negative impact on
intellect and the humanities.
My working research question is: Are the net effects of dictatorships on the areas of the humanities including art and literature as well as academics
as a whole positive or negative? My corresponding thesis statement is: On the grounds of global loss of art and literature as well as suffering
academics, dictatorships have a negative effect on the country they govern as well as the world as a whole. I will research historical occurrences of
dictatorships globally. In addition to that I will research the effects on academics in specific countries. I will also

Humanities: Course Analysis
Throughout this course, we have been asked "What is humanities"? Humanities is the study of human beings by culture, the arts including theater,
dance, and music. Within the humanities there are different eras that are represented such as the information age. The Information Age is a time period
in our history where the traditional industry shifted to the Industrial Revolution. The Information Age is a great example of how progressively
advanced a country can be in with–in a time period. This advancement in the Information Age has a discrepancy; such as the commencement of
technology and the definition of digital, new methods of interaction between different people and devices. The physical component of the Information
Age is a very important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe humanities is more than just "the study of human beings by culture and the arts". I believe humanities is the process of how human beings
have advanced rapidly in the sense of how information is gained and delivered to the mind culturally. Humanities shows that time is of the essence and
that with time things are evolving to keep up with modernization and to always have something "original" available, to seem different or culturally of
the world. I believe that humanities have most defiantly made me aware that I am capable of thinking deeper into the meaning of certain information I
have received in my lifetime or even asking questions that I thought could not have an answer. Humanities has made me see life in a different way
and has made me take action in changing some of the habits I have been accustomed throughout my lifetime to such as my diet, habits, and believing
information that has been a lie all along. I am so grateful that I took this course this year because it has made me eager to become a more
open–minded, healthier, woke, individual and I hope to share information that I have researched myself to make a difference in my

Song Of History
History has always captured my imagination. Yet although the sweeping tapestry of history is dominated by the epic scenes of wars and revolutions, it
is not these which fill my heart with enthusiasm for the subject. That distinction is owed to those who were at the core of these events: Robespierre and
Emma Goldman, Peter the Great and Theodora; it is they who truly capture the magnificence and variety that can be found within history's glorious
annals. In people and events, I see a reflection of all that I have ever known; the song of history, with all of its crescendos and harmonies, resonates
through time, unfaltering. When I observe history, the infinite connections between the members of the human race finally come into view, and I feel...

In This Paper, I Plan To Argue The Ideas By Edward Conard,
In this paper, I plan to argue the ideas by Edward Conard, in his argument that we don't need more humanities major in our academic system. In
specific, this paper will explore the writer's claims, the gaps in his arguments and counter–arguments in this topic. My argument is important because I
will challenge Conard's article with the self–fashioning's article by Keohane.
In Conard's article, he demonstrates to answer the question whether or not we need more humanities. His answer is that we should be focus on
technology and innovation to have a better living standards. (41) His main argument is that innovation and technology are the key to driver of the
American economy and there is a need for more talents and expertise in this area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(43) Schools give one the time and materials to achieve all what one desire in life. (43) In the same way, I would challenge the students to leverage
their energy and time to become the best they can be in their life. (43)
This paper also supports the self–fashioning article by Keohane. Self–fashioning builds the character, personality, and focus on the student. A
self–fashioned student is more likely to succeed in life in whichever line of specialization he chooses. Likewise, I disagree with Conard on the point
that innovation and technology are more likely to bring success to the student. From experience, people who know their personality and character are
able to use in their skills, time and education to be the best in whichever field, whether in technology and innovation or humanities. In my view,
success and failure are not a factor of chosen line of specialization rather, it is a factor of hard work and determination to create a change.
Self–fashioning is more fundamental and basic education, like authority, and intelligence and it is determined by how people deal with small and basic
things in life. Things like cleaning, washing, and taking care of oneself are more important that education when it comes to self–fashioning.
In my life, the most common basic things derive from self–fashioning. They include taking care of oneself through right

When the hurricane actually hit England it made her think about her past life, it did this because where she previously lived in the Caribbean there was
often a lot of hurricanes.
Both poets express their feelings a number of different ways. Moniza
Alvi compares herself to real things whereas Grace Nichols only refers to things, which aren't really there. Alvi talks about her parents' camel skin
lamp then carries on to say, "consider the cruelty," when she says this she reflects on her feelings and herself. What she means by this is that people
kill camels for their skin and that she doesn't agree with it. However what she really means is that she feels that the change from an animal to a lamp is
unfair just like her change from one culture to another.
In comparison Nichols uses a paradox to emphasise her feelings. When she refers to the hurricane as "fearful and reassuring" it shows that she is
unsure about what she feels. However, she thinks that the hurricane is reassuring because it reassures her, that her past life and culture is still where
she left it. She is scared that the culture and what she used to have is nowhere to be found and she needs reassuring that it is still there because she
doesn't feels that it is. When she says it is fearful, obviously she is scared of the hurricane, as she does not know what it could do. She finds

No One Hears Words on a Page: The Native American Oral...
The impact of contemporary Native American authors is not diminished by the fact they fail to fully transcribe tales of the oral tradition into an equally
successful literary story. The basic elements of the oral tradition are technically adhered to but the interaction between audience and the teller is absent.
The lack of personal interaction with the histories and ethical tales changes the culture of Native Americans. Literary stories are generally published for
public consumption. The public, not sensitive to Native culture, then controls the success and future publication of the stories. Societal accountability
impacts the marketability and perhaps the integrity of the Native story. The conflict of interest between the working author... Show more content on

The history or moral objective of the story takes on a personal tone as each listener knows one day he will tell these stories to his children and they,
to their children. The sense of participation and responsibility in the proliferation of the stories is not present in a literary transcription. Literary
works easily capture the technical element of the oral tradition. Literary works can capture the stories themselves but not nuances that come only
from inflection and tone. Where the oral tradition style is present in a story, Gerald Vizenor's Heartlines is one example; the literary work fails in its
mission to share information. The pauses inherent in speech are indicated by bold paragraph titles, less subtle than a well placed intake of breath. .
Nature is endowed with human emotions likein Vizenor's Heartlines, `the ice waited in silence, hardhearted on the blue summer mire, and even the
cedar waxings were uncertain over the late turn of t he seasons.'(152). Shifts in time do not translate well into a written tale. It is confusing and hard
to follow. One is never quite sure what is happening or when it is happening. Even with the presence of several elements of the oral tradition the story
does not flow. The story read aloud is beautiful and clear. In fact, the literary transcription of the tales are especially important for future generations of
Natives who may not ever hear the stories told but

Essay on The Movie "Apollo 13" Increased my Understanding...
I watched the movie Apollo 13. This movie was about the Americans making yet another trip to the moon. For the astronauts that were going to the
moon, it was a very powerful time for them. It was a goal that they had been working on getting to all of their lives. When they were in space,
problems began to arise. The four men soon realized that they were not going to take that special step on the moon. Instead, they had to fight for their
life to get their ship back to earth. In the end, they barely made it back home, but back home they were to see their families yet again. This film was set
in 1970, where the mission launched. What happened in the film was that something went wrong on the ship. These days, I think that people are ...

But when things started going bad, and people find out that the astronauts were in risk of their lives, everyone started becoming more concerned
and interested in what was going on. It shows that people need something exciting to happen during that time in order for them to pay attention to
it. I feel that the film was indeed historically accurate. First of all, the ship was really called Apollo 13, as it was in the movie as well. They also
had all of the correct dates and times that the ship launched and landed. The film did a really good job of giving some of the correct details about
what happened on the ship and what the four men were feeling while they were in space. It made you think about the situation that they were in and
what must have been going on in their head at the time. I can't imagine that anything about the historical events were incorrect. It was a movie
though, so there were some parts that I'm sure never happened in real life, but were put in the film to make it more enjoyable for the viewers. I
think that this film gave me a much better understanding of the historical period. This was a huge time for all of America. Everybody was worried
and scared that these men might not make it back. I think it was a wakeup call to all of America that we aren't invincible and that going to space is a
very dangerous thing to do. The film made me want to learn more about this

David Greetham's The Resistance To The Digital Humanities
The use of technology has been quickly growing in the humanities but it is not necessarily welcomed. David Greetham explains this in his article The
Resistance to the Digital Humanities, which discusses how the digital application of humanities is facing certain types of discrimination in favor of
doing things the old fashioned way. No matter what the content of the digital publications they still face discrimination and are not seen as "real"
works. The use of technology has been growing in many fields in the past twenty plus years and the humanities are not exception to this rule. Now this
is quickly changing and Greetham is arguing that this is something necessary to change so that the the field can expand and do away with old prejudices
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Greetham, "There is clearly a suspicion that somehow the "open access" principles of a good deal of electronic scholarship produce
a less than rigorous evaluation procedure than in traditional print contexts" (440). The ease of publishing now lessens the value of the text,
because now anybody can publish their work without the rigorous evaluation. There aren't as many hoops to jump through with multiple editors
and such. There are now fewer stages and less bureaucracy since once it is up one line for the world to see, it is much harder to make any reviews
or edits to the work. Because of this, Greetham says younger scholars may be more hesitant to use technology since it comes with less prestige, even
though it plays to their advantage. The prejudice still stands with holding the use of print media over digital media when it comes to giving out
things such a tenure and promotions (Greetham 443). You cannot be seen as an actual professional in your field if you haven't had any of your work
published in print, as if it is the only way you can responsibly get your work out. Greetham brings up the point of trying to bring in the older and more
established names in the humanity fields into digital media, but the counters saying it would not be so easy to get these professionals out of their
comfort zones in the first

How Have You Served As A Role Model For Your Peers?
1. How have you served as a role model to your peers?
As someone who came from a family that lives in poverty, I have been plagued by a statistic that told me that working the amount of hours I needed
to support myself while being in school made me substantially less likely to graduate from college than my peers. I've spent most of my college career
working towards proving that statistic wrong. Not only did I want to prove to myself that I would beat the odds and graduate, but I was going to
graduate with a high GPA and would become a graduate student. This goal has pushed me to work extremely hard to balance my academic and
work careers. It has caused many days filled with long shifts and nights filled with homework. I sacrificed weeks without seeing some of my
closest friends and never being a part of the standard college experience of partying frequently. I learned not only how to balance working a part
time retail job and being a full time student but also how to still have some fun along the way. I believe that I have been a role model to my peers
because I have shown a strong drive for success and a willingness to make sacrifices in order to exceed expectations of others and myself. Overall, I
would hope that I would be seen as a role model for other students, not because I did not part take in the stereotypical college experience but because

Music And Education : The Benefits Of Music Education
In today's society, the value of music education is declining at an alarming speed. Many schools around the United States have been forced to cut
spending on music in place of other classes that are viewed as being much more important. This is a travesty for our culture and for our future
generations. Little does our society realize that there are many benefits that music education has to offer. The Government should make every kids take
a music class of their choice at a young age.
Having a music class will definitely help kids of all ages to improve their academic performance. Academic performance is a huge key to our life.
Not only that academic is a huge factor in our life, academic performance can definitely shape our future in a good way. According to a Professor

who did not (The Benefits of Music Education). Now that we know music can improve your IQs, we are going to know how music can do so.

The Dangers Of Fear In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham
Reading a book about where hate is shown for those who are different makes you realize that we ourselves, do not live in a much different society.
Waknuk is a place where if anything abnormal appears along the lines of their definition of normal, the consequences could lead to as serious as death. "
The Chrysalids" written by John Wyndham is a clear warning for today's society portraying the same problems and deficiencies. All in all, the people of
Waknuk face constant prejudice, intolerance, and ignorance. There is a relentless lack of compassion and the novel invites its readers to understand
how fear can shape the hearts and manipulate society.
The novel coincides with today's society through its intolerance towards others which also comes along with prejudice and ignorance. Within the
novel, the people of Waknuk do not accept the abnormalities defined from their views and faith. They do not tolerate the fact of others being different
from them and are quick to eliminate them from society giving you the impression of The Holocaust. "'Why should they be afraid of us? We aren't
hurting them,' she broke in. 'I'm not sure that I know why,' I told her. 'But they are. It's a feel–thing not a think–thing. And the more stupid they are, the
more like everyone else they think everyone ought to be. And once they get afraid they become cruel and want to hurt people who are different –'"

Science And The Natural Sciences
Primary research is a research in which a research will have to conduct themselves, for instance, surveys and interviews. This form of research is
important to the academic cultures because they created and conducted their own experiment. The results from the experiment are their own fresh new
findings that no one has tempered with.
The three academic cultures we have learned throughout this semester are Humanities, Social Science and the Natural Sciences. The natural sciences
have a focus that everything in the universe can be studied. Often times, scientists in the academic culture will create things that are not a part of the

Masks In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Masks are a covering for parts of the face that are worn for a disguise, pleasure, or to scare people. Greek theatre utilizes masks innumerable times for
evident characters in their plays. The actors/actresses who position their masks on, become divergent people. The denotation the boys' have behind the
mask is unique from when they have the mask off. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the mask is used as a disguise from their normal society and
civilization. Jack, Ralph and Roger prove that this statement is true throughout the novel. Golding once said that civilization is "the mask which enables
the individual to hide his primitive nature." This illustrates how one will disguise himself as someone or something that triggers their primal nature.
William Golding's purpose in writing this novel is to present to the readers when an individual loses connections with society they can regenerate one's
true self to become someone they are not. The masks are utilized by these three characters to shield their nefarious doings. Jack, Ralph and Roger all
have measures that delineate the diabolic and shadow within all humanity. To start off, Jack is guiltless at the beginning of the novel, until he turns
himself into a new person. For one, Jack wants laws and organization at the start and wants to discipline whoever violates them and eventually he is the
first to contravene them. Furthermore, Jack is the initial one to influence the boys to infringe the rules and destruct the

Symbolism In Fahrenheit 451
Every piece of literature has the same elements inbedded into it; symbol, pattern and memory, yet they are not easily pointed out. In Ray Bradburg's
"Fahrenheit 451", society has changed into one that supported book burnings and same–tracked thinking for everyone. Symbolism is shown through
the story by the form of that society seeming completely other–worldly or improbable, yet our own society is not far from it. In Fahrenheit 451, books
are burned by firemen instead of saved and television has a rule over every household in the town the protagonist lives in, which led to books being
illegal in any household. A pattern could be drawn from this situation because the modern day society we reside in, has had generations slowly

Pathos In Tim Z Hernandez's 'All They Will Call You'
In the 1940's an agreement between the United States and Mexico allowed farm labor workers to spend time in the United States working, when
the agreed upon time expired the workers would return home to Mexico. These workers were most likely poor people who had no family, friends,
or people they knew who had influence or power. They were simply regular people who were trying to make a living working as migrant workers.
In the novel, All They Will Call You. Author Tim Z Hernandez explores the untold stories of a group of these migrant workers who were killed in a
plane crash on the way back to Mexico. In All They Will Call You, Tim Z. Hernandez has the goal of not only informing his readers about the tragic
Los Gatos plane wreck but also humanize each person involved in the tragic accident; he makes his argument through the use of pathos and is most
persuasive when he dedicates time and print to each person involved.
Mr. Tim Hernandez tells us the story of the importance of these men and women in these informative stories and is effective in doing so. He is
effective because of his excellent use of pathos. He uses pathos throughout the entire novel. An example of his use of pathos comes from Tim Z
Hernandez himself in the novel "It was clear she'd been waiting her whole life to speak of him, though at times it must have seemed easier to live out
her days without ever thinking back at all."(28). When Hernandez used this quote he really tugged at the reader's emotions.

The Difference Between The Art Of Picasso And Braque
Modernist Assault:
1. We know that experts had trouble being able to tell the difference between the works of Picasso and Braque. Defend whether or not this made each
artist's work any less original.
It does not make their art any less original. Originality is about creativity and innovation. While their work was similar, it was the only of it's kind at
the time. They pioneered the path of cubism side by side. I would not consider this to be unoriginal, but a tandem effort to make their own art. Surely,
they challenged one another which pushed their art to new heights. I don't think cubism would be what it is today without both artists, as they were at
the forefront of creating new art during that period.
2. Filippo Tommaso Marinetticlaimed that the motor car was more beautiful than the marble statue of the winged Nike. Develop an explanation that
agrees or disagrees with Marinetti.
I can understand Marinetti's claim that the motor car was more beautiful than the marble statue of the winged Nike. However, I don't agree with his
claim. The motor car is an ingenious creation that required great minds to create, but the question is about beauty. Marble statues bent to the will of
man are truly beautiful to me. The statue of Nike is one of my favorites. The way the clothing flows as you can see the tension on the skin makes it far
more beautiful to me than a car. Finally, there is something about taking one block of marble, and making it into what they envisioned. Apposed to

Differences Between German Culture And American Culture
"Culture makes people understand each other better. And if they understand each other better in their soul, it is easier to overcome the economic and
political barriers. But first they have to understand that their neighbor is, in the end, just like them, with the same problems, the same questions."–
Paulo Coelho. According to Paulo Coelho, in order to better overcome the worldwide obstacles, we should try to understand each other's cultures.
Through this paper, I will try to show you the main differences between German culture and American culture. I have always felt as if I have grown
up around the German culture, but it took me living there for an extended period of time to see that there are indeed differences between the two
cultures. While I identify with both cultures and have both nationalities, I identify stronger with some traits of the American culture yet do the same
with some of the German culture. Through this paper, I will be using different models to show the similarities and differences, as well as I hope to
gain a deeper understanding of both cultures as well.
The Iceberg Model of Culture describes a culture's behaviors and practices, interpretations, and core values. This particular model is interesting to look
at, because it shows, how a culture is perceived (the tip of the iceberg) and the actually culture (the 90% that is hidden). When looking at the German
culture the most things that come to mind would be: beer, lederhosen and dirndls, Oktoberfest,

Globalization Of Corporations And The Cultural Challenges
Introduction
The report is about globalization of corporations and the cultural challenges that come into play during this process. It concentrates on Brazilian
companies that have spread their reach to the international scope. This study identifies the lack of previous literature and theory that can guide
managers in project management across continents. It touches on the factors that surface when projects involve foreigners with differing cultures. The
cultural difference is studied and evaluated to determine the ease of managing teams working with people from different cultures. The report is a step
by step guideline on the influence that cultures have on the development and completion of projects. It follows research that looks at a case study of six
Brazilian international companies. Projects from these six companies have different outcomes across continents, and the impact of different cultures on
them are analyzed. In the end, the report emphasizes the importance of multi–cultural understanding and integration that ensures the success of
projects. It also wraps up in an explanation of the reasons why it is important to know how to manage people from different cultures. It cites that
globalization of companies is a norm in the present day business world (Holden, 2002).

Identity And Cultural Identity
Cultural Identity is "The definition of groups or individuals (by themselves or others) in terms of cultural or subcultural categories (including ethnicity,
nationality, language, religion, and gender)" (Oxford Reference). Everyone has cultural identity even though some are unaware of theirs because their
habits and traditions might be seen as normal to the person and they might not make the connection that it is a cultural tradition or connected to their
cultural identity. Some people are very aware of their cultural identity and have conflict within their identity because the cultures may not coincide.
Frida Kahlo's Self Portrait: On the Borderline Between Mexico and the United States and Pat Mora's "Legal Alien" both show cultural conflict
through symbolism, conflict, and purpose. In both artworks, conflict between cultures can be seen through symbolism. In Frida Kahlo's Self
Portrait: On the Borderline Between Mexico and the United States symbolism can be seen by the boundary stone on which she stands. The
boundary stone is connected directly to a machine on the U.S. side by a cord. The machine on the U.S. side is also shown to have a cord that
connects to the roots of the plants on the Mexico side of the painting. What can be inferred through this visual is that Frida Kahlo is powered by
both the U.S. and Mexico, but her roots are in Mexico. Frida also has added a flag on the right side of the painting to represent the U.S. and she is

Native American Dance Research Paper
Native American Dance as an Art Form Native American art forms have been dwindling in the past few years. Even though they have been decreasing,
some tribes gather still to continue traditions. Art forms such as dance, pottery, and weaving have been passed down from generation to generation.
There are many different types of dances including war dances, grass dances, and rain dances. Each dance has its own meaning and represents
something unique. Native American dance is a creative way to tell a story, share values, pass down traditions, and communicate traditions of their
ancestors in the 21st century. Different aspects of dances all represent something special and meaningful to each specific tribe. Firstly, the purposes of
the Native American's dances are for entertainment, religious rituals, successful hunts, harvests, to give thanks, prayer, victory, mythology, along with

interpret the dances and learn about the past. Without dance some tribal members may not know about their history. Finally, Native American dance

the earliest tribes. Dance is so essential to Native American history, that it has been transmitted since the earliest Native Americans.

How To Read Literature Like A Professor by Thomas C....
How to Read Literature Like A Professor In the skillful novel, "How To Read Literature Like A Professor" by Thomas C. Foster, there is neither a
protagonist nor antagonist. As a whole, the novel gives insights on how to pick up signs of symbolism, irony, and many other hidden details that are
buried within the words of literature. Foster refers to many classis novels by classic authors to demonstrate the use of logic in writing. The novel is
extremely educational, leaving many insightful questions and interpretations to the reader's opinion. After reading the opening chapters, I was
surprised by the laid back, casual attitude Foster displayed. He did not go about explaining certain aspects of previously written novels in a way that ...

Foster keeps the reader interested in reading. He broadened my horizon on the variety of fantastic novels that the world has to offer. He hints that
there are millions of other things to discover about novels, secrets hidden in the code of words, and it is up to the readers to crack it. It was a
great way to end a great novel. Foster made few, if any, errors when writing this novel. There are few things I would change, because this novel is
great in almost every way. However, one of the things I was not crazy about was the way Foster repeated himself numerous times. While it did
somewhat help, hearing things over, it did start to become boring, making it easy to lose attention. For instance, Foster gave endless examples about
how no modern work of literature is original; meaning it all is derived from literature that has already been written. These examples could be
helpful, however, all of the examples were similar, which was not anymore helpful than merely using one example. Another change Foster could have
made would have been referring to a more wide variety of books. The same few books were mentioned numerous times. This was a good and bad
thing. First of all, referring to the same books helped identify with them easier. On the other hand, it made me want to learn about something different.
It gave the novel a level of

The lowest paid salary group was in education, history, and psychology (493). As a psychology major working toward my bachelor degree this is not

the application process to attending the school itself that individual will have a more effective chance at the working world. Depending on where an
individual goes and other factors graduate school can be the most enhancing experience or the most dreadful one. In my opinion, the main point of
graduate school is to obtain a higher degree in a particular field of study by individuals using themselves, others and consistent time and energy to their
education. The students that go to graduate will be tested on what they believe and what they perceive as the truth. Students will be educated on their
specific field and go through rigorous evaluation on what they learn about it and how they apply it to the real world. Campbell graduate student

an individual goes through a self–transformation during their years of learning and practicing for that acceptance of others' ideas and methods.

The Importance Of Experience In The Humanities Reflection
Throughout my time in the humanities sequence, I have constantly been surprised by the astounding quantity of philosophical questions, topics,
issues, and themes that we learned. It seemed that with each new text we read, there was either a completely new subject matter for us to discuss or
a different perspective for us to contemplate. After reading all of the course texts and being exposed to all of their ideologies, I now find it very
difficult to try and focus on only a select few. All of these texts, from theBhagavad Gita to Ethics for the New Millennium, were all highly influential
to me in some way and seem equally as important from a philosophical standpoint, but I must admit that I appreciated some of the subjects more so
than others from a personal point of view. For example, some of my most memorable experiences from the humanities sequence arose from our class
discussions of The Trial and Death of Socrates, a text we read all the way back in the first half of the Honors 201 semester. In class, we worked to
define what constitutes a sandwich following the logic of Socrates as shown in the text. While there were some disagreements around this definition,
such as whether or not a wrap would constitute a sandwich (which it absolutely does), the class as a whole learned to question the world and the items
in it as we know them. As Socrates pointed out in the text and as we discovered in the activity, human beings can readily be ignorant to what is around
us,

Contextual Influences On Macbeth
The contextual influences and societal factors surrounding an individual can shape their true values and attitudes, where the composer of a text reflects
his context by deliberately constructing a character that behaves and develops in a particular way. In William Shakespeare's Macbeth, the Elizabethan
hierarchal structure and its lust for power influences the representation of the character of Macbeth, whose actions ultimately led to his downfall.
Through fate and the belief in superstition during the Elizabethan world, the witch's prophecies were realistic at the time, and thus impacted Macbeth's
beliefs and attitudes. Although the pressure of societal values and hierarchical structures contributed to Macbeth's character, he is unavoidably... Show

In the 11th century, witchcraft was an act of devil worship, especially to the Christian faith who believed in such. Anglo Saxon Scotland brought the
tradition of burning witches which had begun in the early 3rd century BC. The prophecies that came from the witches addressing both Banquo and
Macbeth reflect the desires of men and their lust for power. The witches determine three things about Macbeth's life one of which he pays close
attention to "All hail, Macbeth! That shalt be king hereafter" (Act. 1 Scene. 3 Line. 53). The witches were obviously leading Macbeth into a
destructive state, and Macbeth was thoroughly intrigued in the witches words, "Stay, you imperfect speakers, tell me more." ( Act. 1 Scene. 3 Line.
71 ) which shows that Macbeth is more than interested in the powerful positions that the weird sisters had prophesised. Yet the witches may not have
been aware of how far Macbeth will go to fulfil his wishes and desires, however the witches may have known all along, their cunning and deceptive
personas show this. As the play progresses, Macbeth slowly relies more on the witches prophesies. They are clearly evil and deceiving and they slowly
lead to the corruption of his character, although Macbeth drove himself into madness. The external factor eats away at him internally, making him

When Math and Science Rule the School Essay
In his essay "Dehumanized: When Math and Science Rule the School" published in Harper's Magazine, Mark Slouka argues that mathematics and
science are overshadowing important humanity studies throughout schools all over the United States. Slouka's use of emotional and ethical appeals
through personal experiences and extensive observation offer insight into what he believes is a problem in our modern society: Math and Science
studies receiving more focus and importance than the humanities. Slouka's target audience seems to be the young adults in the United States because
they are the group being affected by this shift in studies in colleges and universities, although our elders should be equally concerned with the rising
problem at hand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humanities are required for the development of an individual's creativity and expression, without these skills our society would be monotonous and
bland. Our nation was built on the ideals of freedom and democracy, and although math and science help us to progress economically and
technologically, they don't help individuals to express themselves to be effectively represented by our government. Furthermore, Slouka states that he
is not taking away from the importance of math and science, he is merely stressing the equal importance of humanities. Despite the fact that Slouka
seems jealous and mocking towards math and science at some parts in his essay, he does an equally effective job of stating their necessity to
everyday life. While expressing his idea of what teaching is for, Slouka states "It's about investing in our human capital...it's about ensuring that the
United States does not fall from its privileged perch in the global economy." Despite the fact businesses look for individuals who are experienced in
such areas as math and science, they are also interested in the ability to problem solve and be creative, which cannot be taught by math and science
alone. Slouka's goal is for the United State's education system to find an equilibrium between what he likes to call 'mathandscience' and the humanities.

The information age is also the age of massive data collection, of databases, records, data mining and big data in all it's empowering and destructive
potential. Not only since the Snowden leaks of 2012 has the question of, who records and who is being recorded become of interest to a wide
audience. Access to such data collection, the knowledge about it and the subjects' relation to all–encompassing technology have been the basis of many
influential writings of the last two decades.
From works such as Empire (Hardt and Negri) that investigate the effects of an all–encompassing global communication network on what Habermas
called the "public sphere" to Geert Lovink's investigation into the roots and practices of critical Internet culture, scholars agree on the existing and
growing importance of data access. In addition to that exists another school of thought more concerned with the realizations of (digital) memory.
Starting from Derrida's writing on the archive (Derrida), to works such as Wolfgang Ernst's Media Archeology, scholars are interested in the effects of
media as memory agents.
However, none of these works have yet adequately addressed the question of sustainable storage in relation to the power systems as described above.
As the pace in the global information network increases every day and news about data collection, surveillance and leaks have become almost daily

The Importance Of Interdiscipline

  • 1. The Importance Of Interdiscipline These are important, because both biology and sociology are concerned with human as well as animals in the society, and sociology is the structure and function of human society. In as much disciplines have a link with interdisciplines, it is important to note that both has difference ideology in the academic studies. Interdiscuplines is a form of knowledge that create or establish field of study that enable student produce, ask question, solve problem, and explain words with understanding as well as create some new ideas. And discipline is a field of study that has already establish by interdisciplinarity, that consist of two or more disciplines. Interdisciplines have over the period demonstrated it important and link to disciplines. Graff states, "the accepted view makes interdisciplines more or less standard from one field to another in the science and social science as well as technical field." (Graff 2015, 13). It is clearly understood that formation among science have links with biology and other science courses. Discipline is considered as a branch of knowledge from which students get their higher learning that enable them classify a social science within the field of humanities. These disciplines enable professionals and scholars come together as a unify force toward making plans and policies among Professionals from difference field of disciplines. • 2. Analysis Of The Book ' The Pursuit Of A Romance ' The Pursuit to Discover A.S. Byatt's Possession: A Romance establishes itself as a postmodern university novel because it centers on the field of research and academia development through a campus setting. Roland Mitchell, the protagonist of the story, is a postdoctoral and literary researcher who is more focused on academia than job prospects, fixing his crumbling relationship with his girlfriend Val, and overall taking part in mandatory obligations such as household contribution, that primarily falls on Val. The audience is introduced to Roland as he studies: "The London Library was Roland 's favourite place. It was shabby but civilised, alive with history but inhabited also by living poets and thinkers who could be found squatting on the slotted metal floors of the stacks, or arguing pleasantly at the turning of the stair" (4). The novel centers on Roland's discovery of two letters written by fictional Victorian poets, Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte. Roland prides and invests the majority of his time to research and decoding these letters, in hopes of pursing a top academic standing in his field. Possession focuses on the themes of history, academic pursuit, and the downfalls of an obsession. Foremost, in order to classify Possession as university novel, one must first understand what a university novel is. In J.J. William's terms: "Campus novels" tend to revolve around campus life and present young adult comedies or dramas, most frequently coming–of–age ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Cultural Differences Between Chinese And... Understanding and upholding respect for different cultures should be a social norm. Fascinatingly, the amount of various cultures around the world is humbling– with no two being alike. Although, Chinese culture has evolved through many, many years and some ancient traditions still uphold. Face, "guanxi," which broadly speaking, means connections and many other cultural normalities are constantly changing in China, yet there is basic threshold of cultural competency that is still important to acquire before any amount of business can be done there. Researching these specific cultural characteristics helped me understand several key cultural concepts that must be understood in order for useful personal and business dealings. Having a basic knowledge of Chinese history, political, economic and social challenges the country faces is necessary background knowledge before evening entering the country. Knowing the Chinese etiquette and understanding our cultural differences from Westernculture in comparison to the Chinese culture can only help enhance business relations and avoid any embarrassing faux pas. Art and Literature There are a wide variety of differences between the Chinese and Western cultures forms of art and literature. The differences in art between western and Chinese culture grow with the addition of the importance of calligraphy. In the US calligraphy is not something of great importance at all. In fact it is a very secluded and almost unknown trait or talent. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Chapter 5 Of John Foster's Patterns ' Chapter 5, "Patterns," the author gives a warning to be on the lookout for patterns, archetypes, and recurrences. He reminds us that all literature contains bits and pieces of other works from other places. Foster dives into further detail by stating the fact that people don't necessarily copy other literature, the ideas become concreted in society's cultural dialogue. All literature is founded on its predecessors. The authors expect the readers to infer on things and they test our knowledge on culture, history, and literature. Intertextuality is the continuous interaction between different literary pieces. • 6. Summary Of Digital Humanism By Dave Parry Dave Parry presents a more suitable definition for digital humanities opposed to the other two. His definition of DH is to view the digital humanities as new approaches of scholarship, as modifications in not the tools in humanistic studies, but in the scholarship itself. Regardless of the concentration of work being done, using the digital creates a whole new way of working. Parry finds the first form of DH quite dull because he's not fascinated in study that looks for the frequency of words. Rather, the author wants a more significant role for the digital humanities than being a way of analyzing text faster. He wants more focus on the humanities and the way the digital humanities has impacted the lives of people. Contrary to the two other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His ending lines of the essay were very out of the ordinary. For the most part, the author reinforces their main argument in the ending lines, but in Parry's conclusion, he composes a joke out of the competing definitions of DH. Instead emphasizing his arguments, he shifts all the attention onto the academy and digital humanists, and more notably, how they will deal with the way the digital alters humanism in the future. Without a doubt, Parry's paper is remarkable, but I think there are a few areas he could work on which could help make his essay stand out even more. The use of sources was great, but throughout his paper, I think Parry used quite a bit of sources that weren't really essential to his main arguments. Rather than constantly building off others, I would've liked to read more about his own personal view s. Lastly, I would just want to know why exactly Parry believes the first meaning of DH would win in the ongoing debate surrounding the digital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bradley makes use of historical incidents and real people. He also draws inspiration from other texts. This is called intertextuality. For example he draws on Conrad's book Heart of Darkness to explore the darkness in man's heart. His character Kurt parallels Conrad's Kurtz. He also quotes from Ondaatje p.37 to develop his idea about maps "whose portraits have nothing to do with surface." This coupled with his narrative about the explorers in the Age of Colonialism Develops the idea that reality can be deceptive. The second story is David's quest for both the ship and for some contentment in his personal life. His story is revealed by 3rd person narration .David is tormented by his wife's death and is struggling to find love and friendship with Claire. . The description of their relationship draws on the language of navigation and discovery. She is seen as "undiscovered country" p.32 and David is a "battered vessel". The narrator suggests there is no map for love Trust in mas is like trust in love' little is what it seems. Both stories suggest on a personal level that the mind is uncharted and difficult to understand. We see Claire working at self–discovery. David too has to navigate through his emotions; his grief to find some middle ground with Claire. The third story is about the age of discovery. This involves comments about maps along with examples some true some not of explorers. All serve to suggest science is not exact and the process of discovery holds many dangers. The historical narrative uses a factual and formal language to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Positive And Negative Effects Of Dictatorships I have always found the human need for power and domination interesting, which is why I choose it for the Research Project. I am interested about how the Dictatorial style of government affects the overall growth of the humanities globally. My goal for this project is to research and understand the positive and negative effects of dictatorships on the academic growth as well as growth in the humanities. There are clear negative effects like the loss of literature in countries such as Germany, where specific types of book from certain eras were burned. In addition to that there are positives such as leaders focusing on education more than other areas of government spending. The paper that would be written using the information gathered through research on this topic would be persuasive, arguing that though there are some positive effects, dictatorships have an overall negative impact on intellect and the humanities. My working research question is: Are the net effects of dictatorships on the areas of the humanities including art and literature as well as academics as a whole positive or negative? My corresponding thesis statement is: On the grounds of global loss of art and literature as well as suffering academics, dictatorships have a negative effect on the country they govern as well as the world as a whole. I will research historical occurrences of dictatorships globally. In addition to that I will research the effects on academics in specific countries. I will also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within the humanities there are different eras that are represented such as the information age. The Information Age is a time period in our history where the traditional industry shifted to the Industrial Revolution. The Information Age is a great example of how progressively advanced a country can be in with–in a time period. This advancement in the Information Age has a discrepancy; such as the commencement of technology and the definition of digital, new methods of interaction between different people and devices. I believe humanities is the process of how human beings have advanced rapidly in the sense of how information is gained and delivered to the mind culturally. Humanities shows that time is of the essence and that with time things are evolving to keep up with modernization and to always have something "original" available, to seem different or culturally of the world. I believe that humanities have most defiantly made me aware that I am capable of thinking deeper into the meaning of certain information I have received in my lifetime or even asking questions that I thought could not have an answer. Humanities has made me see life in a different way and has made me take action in changing some of the habits I have been accustomed throughout my lifetime to such as my diet, habits, and believing information that has been a lie all along. Yet although the sweeping tapestry of history is dominated by the epic scenes of wars and revolutions, it is not these which fill my heart with enthusiasm for the subject. That distinction is owed to those who were at the core of these events: Robespierre and Emma Goldman, Peter the Great and Theodora; it is they who truly capture the magnificence and variety that can be found within history's glorious annals. In people and events, I see a reflection of all that I have ever known; the song of history, with all of its crescendos and harmonies, resonates through time, unfaltering. In specific, this paper will explore the writer's claims, the gaps in his arguments and counter–arguments in this topic. My argument is important because I will challenge Conard's article with the self–fashioning's article by Keohane. In Conard's article, he demonstrates to answer the question whether or not we need more humanities. His answer is that we should be focus on technology and innovation to have a better living standards. (43) In the same way, I would challenge the students to leverage their energy and time to become the best they can be in their life. (43) This paper also supports the self–fashioning article by Keohane. Self–fashioning builds the character, personality, and focus on the student. A self–fashioned student is more likely to succeed in life in whichever line of specialization he chooses. Likewise, I disagree with Conard on the point that innovation and technology are more likely to bring success to the student. From experience, people who know their personality and character are able to use in their skills, time and education to be the best in whichever field, whether in technology and innovation or humanities. In my view, success and failure are not a factor of chosen line of specialization rather, it is a factor of hard work and determination to create a change. Self–fashioning is more fundamental and basic education, like authority, and intelligence and it is determined by how people deal with small and basic things in life. Things like cleaning, washing, and taking care of oneself are more important that education when it comes to self–fashioning. In my life, the most common basic things derive from self–fashioning. When the hurricane actually hit England it made her think about her past life, it did this because where she previously lived in the Caribbean there was often a lot of hurricanes. Both poets express their feelings a number of different ways. Moniza Alvi compares herself to real things whereas Grace Nichols only refers to things, which aren't really there. Alvi talks about her parents' camel skin lamp then carries on to say, "consider the cruelty," when she says this she reflects on her feelings and herself. What she means by this is that people kill camels for their skin and that she doesn't agree with it. However what she really means is that she feels that the change from an animal to a lamp is unfair just like her change from one culture to another. In comparison Nichols uses a paradox to emphasise her feelings. When she refers to the hurricane as "fearful and reassuring" it shows that she is unsure about what she feels. However, she thinks that the hurricane is reassuring because it reassures her, that her past life and culture is still where she left it. She is scared that the culture and what she used to have is nowhere to be found and she needs reassuring that it is still there because she doesn't feels that it is. The impact of contemporary Native American authors is not diminished by the fact they fail to fully transcribe tales of the oral tradition into an equally successful literary story. The basic elements of the oral tradition are technically adhered to but the interaction between audience and the teller is absent. The lack of personal interaction with the histories and ethical tales changes the culture of Native Americans. Literary stories are generally published for public consumption. The history or moral objective of the story takes on a personal tone as each listener knows one day he will tell these stories to his children and they, to their children. The sense of participation and responsibility in the proliferation of the stories is not present in a literary transcription. Literary works easily capture the technical element of the oral tradition. Literary works can capture the stories themselves but not nuances that come only from inflection and tone. Where the oral tradition style is present in a story, Gerald Vizenor's Heartlines is one example; the literary work fails in its mission to share information. The pauses inherent in speech are indicated by bold paragraph titles, less subtle than a well placed intake of breath. . Nature is endowed with human emotions likein Vizenor's Heartlines, `the ice waited in silence, hardhearted on the blue summer mire, and even the cedar waxings were uncertain over the late turn of t he seasons.'(152). For the astronauts that were going to the moon, it was a very powerful time for them. It was a goal that they had been working on getting to all of their lives. When they were in space, problems began to arise. The four men soon realized that they were not going to take that special step on the moon. Instead, they had to fight for their life to get their ship back to earth. In the end, they barely made it back home, but back home they were to see their families yet again. First of all, the ship was really called Apollo 13, as it was in the movie as well. They also had all of the correct dates and times that the ship launched and landed. The film did a really good job of giving some of the correct details about what happened on the ship and what the four men were feeling while they were in space. It made you think about the situation that they were in and what must have been going on in their head at the time. I can't imagine that anything about the historical events were incorrect. It was a movie though, so there were some parts that I'm sure never happened in real life, but were put in the film to make it more enjoyable for the viewers. I think that this film gave me a much better understanding of the historical period. This was a huge time for all of America. Everybody was worried and scared that these men might not make it back. I think it was a wakeup call to all of America that we aren't invincible and that going to space is a very dangerous thing to do. The film made me want to learn more about this ... • 16. David Greetham's The Resistance To The Digital Humanities The use of technology has been quickly growing in the humanities but it is not necessarily welcomed. David Greetham explains this in his article The Resistance to the Digital Humanities, which discusses how the digital application of humanities is facing certain types of discrimination in favor of doing things the old fashioned way. No matter what the content of the digital publications they still face discrimination and are not seen as "real" works. The use of technology has been growing in many fields in the past twenty plus years and the humanities are not exception to this rule. Now this is quickly changing and Greetham is arguing that this is something necessary to change so that the the field can expand and do away with old prejudices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Greetham, "There is clearly a suspicion that somehow the "open access" principles of a good deal of electronic scholarship produce a less than rigorous evaluation procedure than in traditional print contexts" (440). The ease of publishing now lessens the value of the text, because now anybody can publish their work without the rigorous evaluation. There aren't as many hoops to jump through with multiple editors and such. There are now fewer stages and less bureaucracy since once it is up one line for the world to see, it is much harder to make any reviews or edits to the work. Because of this, Greetham says younger scholars may be more hesitant to use technology since it comes with less prestige, even though it plays to their advantage. The prejudice still stands with holding the use of print media over digital media when it comes to giving out things such a tenure and promotions (Greetham 443). You cannot be seen as an actual professional in your field if you haven't had any of your work published in print, as if it is the only way you can responsibly get your work out. As someone who came from a family that lives in poverty, I have been plagued by a statistic that told me that working the amount of hours I needed to support myself while being in school made me substantially less likely to graduate from college than my peers. I've spent most of my college career working towards proving that statistic wrong. Not only did I want to prove to myself that I would beat the odds and graduate, but I was going to graduate with a high GPA and would become a graduate student. This goal has pushed me to work extremely hard to balance my academic and work careers. It has caused many days filled with long shifts and nights filled with homework. I sacrificed weeks without seeing some of my closest friends and never being a part of the standard college experience of partying frequently. I learned not only how to balance working a part time retail job and being a full time student but also how to still have some fun along the way. I believe that I have been a role model to my peers because I have shown a strong drive for success and a willingness to make sacrifices in order to exceed expectations of others and myself. Many schools around the United States have been forced to cut spending on music in place of other classes that are viewed as being much more important. This is a travesty for our culture and for our future generations. Little does our society realize that there are many benefits that music education has to offer. The Government should make every kids take a music class of their choice at a young age. Having a music class will definitely help kids of all ages to improve their academic performance. Academic performance is a huge key to our life. Not only that academic is a huge factor in our life, academic performance can definitely shape our future in a good way. According to a Professor name Glenn Schellenberg of University of Toronto who found a small increase in the IQ's of six years old who was given weekly lesson of music during the nine months he had given them. This is why any authentic creation is a gift to the future." provides a different perspective on how culture affects society. This quote also provides an explanation as to whyculture is so significant in allowing society itself to grow and blend. Change in culture is necessary to keep society in order. Culture basically sets the basis for the way a person lives his of her life. It also enables people to fit in with their own certain group of people while keeping their individuality. The Dangers Of Fear In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham Reading a book about where hate is shown for those who are different makes you realize that we ourselves, do not live in a much different society. Waknuk is a place where if anything abnormal appears along the lines of their definition of normal, the consequences could lead to as serious as death. " The Chrysalids" written by John Wyndham is a clear warning for today's society portraying the same problems and deficiencies. All in all, the people of Waknuk face constant prejudice, intolerance, and ignorance. There is a relentless lack of compassion and the novel invites its readers to understand how fear can shape the hearts and manipulate society. The novel coincides with today's society through its intolerance towards others which also comes along with prejudice and ignorance. Within the novel, the people of Waknuk do not accept the abnormalities defined from their views and faith. They do not tolerate the fact of others being different from them and are quick to eliminate them from society giving you the impression of The Holocaust. "'Why should they be afraid of us? We aren't hurting them,' she broke in. 'I'm not sure that I know why,' I told her. 'But they are. It's a feel–thing not a think–thing. The three academic cultures we have learned throughout this semester are Humanities, Social Science and the Natural Sciences. • 24. Masks In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding Masks are a covering for parts of the face that are worn for a disguise, pleasure, or to scare people. Greek theatre utilizes masks innumerable times for evident characters in their plays. The actors/actresses who position their masks on, become divergent people. The denotation the boys' have behind the mask is unique from when they have the mask off. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the mask is used as a disguise from their normal society and civilization. Jack, Ralph and Roger prove that this statement is true throughout the novel. Golding once said that civilization is "the mask which enables the individual to hide his primitive nature." This illustrates how one will disguise himself as someone or something that triggers their primal nature. William Golding's purpose in writing this novel is to present to the readers when an individual loses connections with society they can regenerate one's true self to become someone they are not. The masks are utilized by these three characters to shield their nefarious doings. Jack, Ralph and Roger all have measures that delineate the diabolic and shadow within all humanity. To start off, Jack is guiltless at the beginning of the novel, until he turns himself into a new person. For one, Jack wants laws and organization at the start and wants to discipline whoever violates them and eventually he is the first to contravene them. In Ray Bradburg's "Fahrenheit 451", society has changed into one that supported book burnings and same–tracked thinking for everyone. Symbolism is shown through the story by the form of that society seeming completely other–worldly or improbable, yet our own society is not far from it. In Fahrenheit 451, books are burned by firemen instead of saved and television has a rule over every household in the town the protagonist lives in, which led to books being illegal in any household. Pathos In Tim Z Hernandez's 'All They Will Call You' In the 1940's an agreement between the United States and Mexico allowed farm labor workers to spend time in the United States working, when the agreed upon time expired the workers would return home to Mexico. These workers were most likely poor people who had no family, friends, or people they knew who had influence or power. They were simply regular people who were trying to make a living working as migrant workers. In the novel, All They Will Call You. Author Tim Z Hernandez explores the untold stories of a group of these migrant workers who were killed in a plane crash on the way back to Mexico. In All They Will Call You, Tim Z. Hernandez has the goal of not only informing his readers about the tragic Los Gatos plane wreck but also humanize each person involved in the tragic accident; he makes his argument through the use of pathos and is most persuasive when he dedicates time and print to each person involved. Mr. Tim Hernandez tells us the story of the importance of these men and women in these informative stories and is effective in doing so. He is effective because of his excellent use of pathos. He uses pathos throughout the entire novel. An example of his use of pathos comes from Tim Z Hernandez himself in the novel "It was clear she'd been waiting her whole life to speak of him, though at times it must have seemed easier to live out her days without ever thinking back at all."(28). • 27. The Difference Between The Art Of Picasso And Braque Modernist Assault: 1. We know that experts had trouble being able to tell the difference between the works of Picasso and Braque. Defend whether or not this made each artist's work any less original. It does not make their art any less original. Originality is about creativity and innovation. While their work was similar, it was the only of it's kind at the time. They pioneered the path of cubism side by side. I would not consider this to be unoriginal, but a tandem effort to make their own art. Surely, they challenged one another which pushed their art to new heights. I don't think cubism would be what it is today without both artists, as they were at the forefront of creating new art during that period. 2. I can understand Marinetti's claim that the motor car was more beautiful than the marble statue of the winged Nike. However, I don't agree with his claim. The motor car is an ingenious creation that required great minds to create, but the question is about beauty. Marble statues bent to the will of man are truly beautiful to me. The statue of Nike is one of my favorites. The way the clothing flows as you can see the tension on the skin makes it far more beautiful to me than a car. And if they understand each other better in their soul, it is easier to overcome the economic and political barriers. But first they have to understand that their neighbor is, in the end, just like them, with the same problems, the same questions."– Paulo Coelho. According to Paulo Coelho, in order to better overcome the worldwide obstacles, we should try to understand each other's cultures. Through this paper, I will try to show you the main differences between German culture and American culture. I have always felt as if I have grown up around the German culture, but it took me living there for an extended period of time to see that there are indeed differences between the two cultures. While I identify with both cultures and have both nationalities, I identify stronger with some traits of the American culture yet do the same with some of the German culture. Through this paper, I will be using different models to show the similarities and differences, as well as I hope to gain a deeper understanding of both cultures as well. The Iceberg Model of Culture describes a culture's behaviors and practices, interpretations, and core values. This particular model is interesting to look at, because it shows, how a culture is perceived (the tip of the iceberg) and the actually culture (the 90% that is hidden). Everyone has cultural identity even though some are unaware of theirs because their habits and traditions might be seen as normal to the person and they might not make the connection that it is a cultural tradition or connected to their cultural identity. Some people are very aware of their cultural identity and have conflict within their identity because the cultures may not coincide. Frida Kahlo's Self Portrait: On the Borderline Between Mexico and the United States and Pat Mora's "Legal Alien" both show cultural conflict through symbolism, conflict, and purpose. In both artworks, conflict between cultures can be seen through symbolism. In Frida Kahlo's Self Portrait: On the Borderline Between Mexico and the United States symbolism can be seen by the boundary stone on which she stands. The machine on the U.S. side is also shown to have a cord that connects to the roots of the plants on the Mexico side of the painting. The Importance Of Experience In The Humanities Reflection Throughout my time in the humanities sequence, I have constantly been surprised by the astounding quantity of philosophical questions, topics, issues, and themes that we learned. It seemed that with each new text we read, there was either a completely new subject matter for us to discuss or a different perspective for us to contemplate. After reading all of the course texts and being exposed to all of their ideologies, I now find it very difficult to try and focus on only a select few. All of these texts, from theBhagavad Gita to Ethics for the New Millennium, were all highly influential to me in some way and seem equally as important from a philosophical standpoint, but I must admit that I appreciated some of the subjects more so than others from a personal point of view. For example, some of my most memorable experiences from the humanities sequence arose from our class discussions of The Trial and Death of Socrates, a text we read all the way back in the first half of the Honors 201 semester. In class, we worked to define what constitutes a sandwich following the logic of Socrates as shown in the text. While there were some disagreements around this definition, such as whether or not a wrap would constitute a sandwich (which it absolutely does), the class as a whole learned to question the world and the items in it as we know them. Not only since the Snowden leaks of 2012 has the question of, who records and who is being recorded become of interest to a wide audience. Access to such data collection, the knowledge about it and the subjects' relation to all–encompassing technology have been the basis of many influential writings of the last two decades. In addition to that exists another school of thought more concerned with the realizations of (digital) memory. Starting from Derrida's writing on the archive (Derrida), to works such as Wolfgang Ernst's Media Archeology, scholars are interested in the effects of media as memory agents.
