The Impact of Population Aging
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1: Study Background
The population aging, in other words, the greying of the population is major concern all over the
world. Many factors are leading to population aging, namely, unwillingness to marry, late marriage,
fertility control, low birth rate and longer life span. All these factors are also related to developing
status of the country. The more the country is developing, the more the factors have stronger effect
on aging population and the age population problems of the country is more serious.
If there is no solution for the population aging, many countries, especially developing countries, will
face the problems regarding old age care. The Government of the many countries will be facing

2: LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1: Age Population
Age Population means the population is mainly with older aged group (65 years and over). In
another way, it was explained as age structure of a population shifted towards older ages, Gavrilov
and Heuveline: 2003. When the majority population of a country or a region age 65 and above, its
population is aging. Population aging is mainly favoured in industrialized countries, and slower in
less developed countries.
2.2: Population ratio in Singapore
According to Singapore Population Census 2010, Singapore's current population is recorded as 5.08

ACTION RESEARCH IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT–A FRAMEWORK FOR
RELEVANT AND RIGOROUS RESEARCH by Dag Näslund University of North Florida and
Lund University Rahul Kale University of North Florida and Antony Paulraj University of North
Florida
INTRODUCTION Scholars in the field of business management have frequently debated the
relative importance of rigor and relevance in business research. In fact, there are an increasing
number of articles that discuss the problems associated with the lack of relevance in published
business research. Relevant research "develops insights that help managers understand themselves
and their organizations better" (Markides 2007, p.765). On the ... Show more content on

In spite of its potential to address relevant research questions, few published action research–based
articles exist within the field of supply chain management (Näslund 2002). In fact, these studies are
so rare that they almost constitute the "White Space" of research in the field (Frankel and Näslund
2005). One reason for this reluctance to adopt AR can be attributed to the lack of rigor in some of
the previously published works. Alvesson (1996, p.456) wrote "...much qualitative research is as
superficial as questionnaire studies." Case research has, unfortunately, been used as an excuse for
"industrial tourism"–visiting lots of organisations without any pre–conceived ideas as to what is
being researched" (Voss, Tsikriktsis, and Frohlich 2002, p.196). Similarly, a criticism of AR is that it
more resembles consulting versus rigorous research; that is, consulting "masquerading as research"
(Coughlan and Coghlan 2002, p.237). Naturally, being applied and relevant cannot and should not
be an excuse for doing research that is not rigorous. Accordingly, when a rigorous methodology is
adopted, AR can provide significant research contributions for both practice and academia. With the
belief that rigor and relevance are essential

Case Study : Apple Inc.
Organization Overview and Background
This paper presents a case study of Apple Inc. Apple Inc. is a technology based corporation with
emphasis on computer software and hardware (MAC and Apps), tablets (IPad), smart phones
(IPhone), and mp3 plays, (ITouch). Apple Inc. has grown tremendously over the years and ever
since 2001 has expanded its brand and retail stores to over 375 stores/outlets globally. The business
has seventy two thousand eight hundred employees in thirty eight countries. Apple Inc. has truly
become one of the most efficacious corporations within its field behind or competing with Microsoft
and Google Inc.
In its infancy, Apple Computer Inc. began with the Macintosh personal computer. The company was
founded on April 1, 1976. The founders were Steve Wozniak and Steven Jobs. They incorporated the
company in 1977, on January 3rd, in Cupertino, California. In the twenty years that followed, the
company produced personal computers. Besides the Macintosh, Apple Inc. made Apple II, and the
Power Mac lines. Although they lasted for decades, during the 90's the company experienced some
turbulent times with low sales and market share. Steve Jobs left Apple Inc. and came back in 1996
when his company, NeXT was purchased by Apple. In 1997, Jobs became the interim CEO. In later
years it became a permanent position for him. It was through jobs that significant and highly
marketable designs came into Apple like the original iMac of 1998. iPod launched Apple into a

Self–Sustainable Living: Why?
Nicholas Lawrence
Abstract
What drives individuals to seek out a self–sustained lifestyle, free from the electricity grid? This
study aim to determine the reasons individuals and, in some cases, communities strive to be self–
sustainable and free themselves from the electricity grid. Data will be collected form informal
interviews with different groups of people that have, are in the process of, or do not want to live a
self–sustainable lifestyle as well as using Ethnography and scholarly market studies to gather data
on individuals behavior in an unbiased manner. The data will show where the renewable energy

There are some statistical facts listed demonstrating the increasing desire to live off grid, the tax
break information in different states, jobs provided by renewable energy, and some utility statistics.
"Unearthing the determinants required for off–grid subsistence: a case study":
Based on the journey taken by a research, over a four year time period, this study covers the attempt
to build a self–sustained livelihood on a 1000 square meter plot of land in South Africa. The four
focus points of the self–sustained were and owner built dwelling, farming produce, rain and energy
harvesting, and waste disposal. The main goal was to build this small settlement and live off the
land. The researcher ran into some government interference as a result of contradictions in zoning
and led to the restructure of theses zoning restrictions to allow such settlements. This article touches
on the rarely talked about, but important, topic of government land zoning. I felt this was an
appropriate issue to cover because it was not easy to find information about such thing and I believe
they are often overlooked.
"The road washes out in Spring: a poet's memoir of living off the grid":
Finally, this compilation of firsthand accounts is very interesting and different from the rest of my
reviewed literature. This memoir covers the 25 year life of an individual and his family as the lived
off grid in a farm house in Maine. What sets this apart from

Introduction
As a new worker you have finally landed that dream job, now what? You are excited about the
possibilities awaiting you at your new dream job. As you prepare for your first day, you are told you
will have to attend new hire orientation. Suddenly, the butterflies in your stomach return as you
anticipate what to expect next. Then you ask yourself, "What is new hire orientation and what does
it mean for me?" The goal of any successful onboarding program is to ensure that the investment in
a new employee pays off by creating a sense of connection between the new worker and the
organization. But what happens when company representatives lack ... Show more content on

Initially, Monica contacts Carl about the key items needed for orientation and he assures her that
everything is good to go. This could not have been further from the truth. At this point, he is not
aware of the problems he will face in his new endeavor. Carl's lack of experience is clearly exhibited
when his assurance has not been tested. The next key problem that arises for Carl is when he checks
the new trainee files and discovers that they are incomplete. All the new recruits have gone through
the interview process and filled out their paperwork. Unfortunately, the paperwork is incomplete and
missing lots of valuable data. To make matters worse, some files are missing transcripts, and no one
has completed the required drug screens. Problems only get worse for Carl when he discovers that
only three copies of the employee manuals exist. Of the three manuals that exist, they are all missing
several pages. Unfortunately, he needs fifteen complete copies. As if the previous issues alone are
not bad enough, Carl also learns that the training room he plans to use for orientation has been
booked by another individual for the entire month of June. At this point, he is faced with a serious
dilemma, and his lack of experience reveals that he does not realize the severity of his problem.
Namely, he lacks leadership because he failed to prepare and assumed that his first project would go
smoothly. Next, he

The Importance Of Education In Immigrant Students
Compared with the native–born students, immigrant student success rate is significantly lower.
Many immigrant children who struggle to reach their optimum levels in school because of language
barriers, acculturation, and lack of resources at home. This problem is affecting thousands of young
immigrant student is a negative way. When students newly come the United States, they have a
difficult time with learning the English language and adapting to the way that schools work. What
programs can schools implement to help immigrant student to ensure success in their new
environment?
The first article I researched was, "I'm Telling You...The Language Barrier Is the Most, the Biggest
Challenge': Barriers to Education among Karen Refugee Women in Australia" (2012) by Paula
Watkins, Husna Razee, and Juliet Richters. The authors' discussed about how "language proficiency
is a prerequisite for economic, political, social and cultural integration" (126). It made me aware that
in order to fit into a new culture you have to be able to understand them politically, economically,
and socially. The authors support this claim by doing a case study with female immigrants from
Burma to see how the lack of English proficiency effects them social, economically, politically, and
culturally (129–133). Their data and findings from the case study showed that to be able to blend
into a new society and culture you need to not just be English proficient, but also have to know the
environment that it

This may have been created due to lack of qualifications, training, or overstating of qualification on
Carl's resume. Due to this, certain tasks were not addressed in a timely manner. Four problems are
readily apparent; employee applications are incomplete or missing documentation, lack of training

The goal is to have new hires trained in time to start work in July. Carl is new at the job himself, and
this is his first recruitment effort. This, however, is no excuse for not being prepared for the task at
hand, especially knowing the importance for the company and making a good impression on the
new hires. The main concern is that there are many problems and not much time to complete them.
Carl will need to evaluate, prioritize, and find solutions to each issue quickly. Carl has many
obstacles to overcome, but the July deadline is still a reachable goal. Key Problems Carl's
performance, leading to his failure, began when he did not think ahead in his process for new hires
and the requirements of himself and the new employees for the company. Before Carl started
recruiting these individuals he did not have a plan in place for after he met his goal of recruiting 15
new people for the company. His only focus and concern was getting the new hires in the door, and
the rest was an afterthought. Some of the things he should have thought about were "What happens
next after the recruits are hired?" Problem 1 – He did not take in consideration all of the elements
involved with the hiring and training of the new hires; like making sure all documents were up–to–
date prior to hiring. A company should not hire new employees without all required documents. If a

The following paragraphs will discuss the mistakes might Ced and board have made when setting up
the aged care company.
4.0 Model for organization–level diagnose relate to Autumn Leaves Aged Care Inc
4.1Organization level
The most serious mistake is the leader did not realize the change of the economic and political
environment. Before setting up Autumn Leaves Aged Care Inc., Ced was very confident that the
strategy will not fail because his sale pitch is based on three premises. The premises is persuasive, it
shows the number of baby boomer will provide a profitable market and the tax concessions policy
will reduce the cost. But Ced did not notice the informations are changing, the information maybe
totally different after he anticipated the market and made project. In 2007, the aged care company
began to operating and at the same time the cost of labor and building were skyrocket. In 2008, due
to the global financial crisis, government reduced the tax concession and banks reluctant to lend.
Thus Ced might use the outdated information to execute a plan, he do not follow the change of time
to update information and make new forecast with times. On the other hand, Ced did not make a
meticulous research on industry structure. The supplier power, buyer power and rivalry among the
same industry were not considered, the emergency strategy was not planed. These negligences
directly lead to

Possible Solutions To begin, Carl could make a checklist of required items needed to complete the
hiring process and attach said document to each new hires files. Before contacting each trainee by
phone and e–mail to notify them that a completed application and transcripts must be received
within 72–hours so as the office can process and complete the new hire documentation, Carl can
inquire if official transcripts are required or if unofficial will suffice. If unofficial transcripts are
accepted, this greatly reduces effect of this issue and potentially solves this issue. Failure to
complete application and or transcripts before the 72–hour deadline would result in the new hire not
being offered a position or asked to attend the next recruiting session. In regard to the absence of
drug screen results, all new hires must take a drug screen at an approved location within 48 hours.
One solution would be to contact the new hires by phone and email informing them a drug screen is
required and must be completed within 48 hours

Methodology
This research paper will involve the use of qualitative approach as the main research methodology.
This is a common case study method, which provides a clear vision on related implication of the
research topic to researcher (Kondracki & Wellman, 2002). Besides, the data in this method depends
on human experience and this will be more persuasive and powerful than only data gathered via
quantitative research. The reason to apply qualitative case study tool in this study due to its
flexibility of use and also its ability, which allows the researcher to express their ideas and thoughts
in the within context of the research (Maxwell. 2005).
The study involves both primary and secondary research in order to have a clear vision on the
research question. Secondary data will be collected from Tesco Inc. such as the sales, the number of
visiting customers in different period. And the primary data will be conducted in two ways, on–site
visit and online questionnaire. The methodology being used in this study has also bring up a lot of

Now, let us note that there are 3 machines, thus giving us a total of 2,880 units. In addition, the
Boring represents a 25–reject rate, giving us 58 in units. Nevertheless, if we subtract 2,880 units
produced by all three machines from 58 units, then we will get a new total of 2,822 units.
The Drilling Capacity
The following includes, the Drilling Capacity, which has a run time of 2.5 minutes per piece.
Therefore, this produces a total of 384 units per machine, giving us a total of 960 minutes. In
addition, providing that there are a total of 6 machines, thus giving us a total of 2,304 units. Moving

162 units. Nevertheless, if we subtract the total amount of units produced from all 6 machines of
2,304 units with the 162 units, this will provide us with a new total of 2,142 units.
The System Capacity In order to find the capacity system, we are able to take the lowest number in
units, of course after the reject rate, which for this case is produced by the grinding with 2,128 units.
Therefore, because we are unable to produce more units due to reaching the capacity mark, or for no
more product to be allowed through in the completed cycle. Thus, the capacity system turns out to
be 2,128 units. "Capacity utilization and machine scheduling also reflect tactical

In my research on child poverty, I read a scholarly journal entitled UNICEF 'Child Poverty in
Perspective' Report: A view from the UK. In the journal they compared the conditions of the
children living across the world in the industrialized countries. UK was found as the poorest of them
all. This comparison was on average against 21 countries. These reports were started in 2000, where
they resembled a report card of the comparisons but the latest one was February 2007. The report
has some interesting and detailed information on contributing factors on children poverty. The first
contributor I will discuss is emotional and social issues for poor children. These problems include
impulsive behaviors, lack of social skills, anxiety, depression and low self–esteem. These problems
make it difficult for future success in school or work as they grow. (UNICEF) Emotional children
may begin to feel helpless and start to separate from the crowd to avoid embarrassment. They have
to deal with the looks and comments of people who are more fortunate talking down to them.
There's a feeling of helplessness and questions on why they have to be less fortunate. This may lead
to counseling in more severe situations. Then there is the part poverty plays in the educational
development as well. There are times when poverty may mean no dinner the night before or not
enough breakfast that morning. Poverty is the leading threat to children's

performance of the entire organization. The information obtained from this study will offer a wide
variety of information from its current diverse work force. Gathering this information will also, help
the organization understand if the operational structure currently used is effective enough to sustain
growth or identify if a change in the way the organization operation needs to be made. In addition,
this study will provide vital information as it pertains to the way the organization runs during both a
stable and/or unstable environment. Understanding how the organization operates in either situation
will offer information needed to make the proper adjustments during unstable periods so that there is
little to no loss of market share due to unknown obstacles. When times are good this information
will give the organization the right information to sustain during stable times and not let an upward
spike in performance fall by taking advantage of good times. In the end, taking the right steps to use
information from within a diverse workforce will have a continued benefit for any organization. The

Employee Productivity Is The Backbone Of Any Enterprise
Chapter 1: Problem Definition
Background
Employee productivity, also known as workforce productivity, is the backbone of any enterprise.
According to Amabile and Kramer (2012), the source of productivity at any company "...is the
individual knowledge workers who get things done every day" (para. 1). And according to Axilrod
(2015), the typical employee is at his or her desk for an average of approximately five hours a day,
paid for by the company. Thus, in the current climate of globalization, outsourcing, downsizing, and
pension reduction, it is vital for administration and management to stay on top of what sustains
employee loyalty and employee productivity. Several elements contribute to effective employee
productivity, including employee job satisfaction and morale (Axilrod, 2015; Manson, 2014; Jarrow,
2013; Kaupelyte, 2013; Turner, 2013; Amabile & Kramer, 2012; Walters, 2010; Bowles & Cooper,
2009). Neely (2013) asserts that "Regardless of the profession or type of work, the central element
that has had a stake in productivity, longevity and overall success of any organization [is] employee
morale" (p. 13).
The technology sector is one of the fastest–growing in the business, if not the fastest–growing
sector. Like many others in other sectors, companies in the technology sector are facing the
challenges of employee productivity and are initiating actions toward performance management
(Axilrod, 2015) to "...focus... on the performance of employees and [ensure] their

Systems Analysis : System Analysis
Systems Analysis Portfolio
Nola J Ward
Walden University INTRODUCTION
System analysis is not a fixed set of techniques but what it does is take into account all aspects of a
situation from a systems perspective by looking at all its different elements and concentrating on the
interactions among the elements. What system analysis does is create a framework to be reviewed
and discussed among individuals in different areas to determine what is the best way to accomplish
its desired goals and what must be done for their current and future needs of the organization. In
simpler words, systems analysis is a structured system because of certain tools and techniques such
as data flow diagrams are used to conduct analysis. Systems analysis shows how a business
functions in order to increase effectiveness, efficiency and to improve an organizations work
processes.
In reading Thinking in Systems, it states that there are three things a system consist of: elements,
interconnections, and a purpose or function (Meadows, 2008). Systems may exhibit dynamic, self–
preserving, goal–seeking and even evolutionary behavior; basically it is more than just the
collections of its parts. In the book, The Fifth Discipline, Peter Senge (2006, p 7) suggests that in
order to cultivate systems thinking in an organization, they must have these disciplines: Personal
mastery, mental models, a shared vision and team learning. Personal mastery is a continually
deepening and clarifying our

ABC, Inc. Case Study Analysis
Introduction
A number of problems were made during the recent hiring process. This case
Study is an attempt to identify and recommend ways to improve this process.
From the information that has been obtained, I believe that a lack of
employee experience and a lack of prior planning and follow up resulted in
a failure to accomplish all the tasks necessary to hire the new employees in a
timely fashion.
Background
Carol Robins, a new campus recruiter for ABC, Inc., in early April he was
able to hire 15 new trainees who were destined to work for Monica Carrolls,
the operations supervisor. From the interviews that were conducted, it
appears that Carl was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under the topic of supervision, Monica Carrolls could have made
contact more often with Carl. But her job, as operations manager, does not
include his supervision. Another solution to the supervision problem could
be to increase the staff in the human resources department. However, on
examination this does not appear to be the most efficient solution due to the
increased costs.
Another solution would be to maintain the master "New Employee
Orientation" manual in electronic format. Having the manual in electronic
form allows for easy updating of the policy and procedures, and prevents
inadvertent loss or damage to that document. This method is cost effective
and easily implemented.
Proposed Solutions
 A "New Employee Checklist" will be created with all pre–employed tasks listed on it.
 The "Employee Orientation" manual will be maintained in an electronic format.
 Some of the pre–employment tasks will become the responsibility of the potential
employees to accomplish. Potential employees will report when the tasks have been completed. A
member of the human resource staff will confirm that the task has been completed correctly.
 Employees like, Carl Robins, will be required to submit weekly reports detailing the
current status of all potential employees.

Employment Interview Questions
1. Tell me about yourself.
I am a student majoring in accounting with a few years of experience working in the accounting
field. I have worked in entry level positions and internships, which have provided me with valuable
knowledge and experience to lead a successful career. As a soon–to–be graduate accountant, I pay
attention to details, have good mathematical skills, analytical thinking, and an ability to think one
step forward. I believe these skills are some of the most important skills that an accountant should
possess in order to excel in any company.
2. Why should I hire you?
You should hire me because I have more experience than many undergraduates an even some
graduate students. The experience I gained working in an accounts payable department make me the
perfect candidate for the job. I have a clear understanding this job's responsibilities and goals. As an
accountant assistant in your company's accounts payable team, I would make sure to pay suppliers
timely and accurately. After reviewing each invoice, I will efficiently make sure accounts reconcile
between what was ordered and received as well as to check for consistency between the agreed price
and what the company is billed.
3. What is your long–range objective?
In the long–term, I want to become an expert in my field. If an upper level management position
becomes available, I would like to apply for such position. However, I first need to work on near
term objectives. I

The Treatment of Phobias Essay
Everyone in life has fears, it's a natural way our brains process certain objects or situations that may
be dangerous. Common fears may be heights or spiders; some would rationally go out of their way
to avoid these, but this is quite different from having a phobia. A phobia is an irrational distress with
a particular object or concept/idea. Although fears are well known now, they do not have to disrupt
the lives of those who are living them. Throughout the essay there will be three different treatments
with three different phobias in ways to cure a phobia; the first is a trauma–focused treatment
approach for travel phobia, assessment and treatment for childhood phobias, and hypnosis in
facilitating clinical treatment of injections. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When introduced to in vivo exposure the patients showed an increase of PTSD symptoms (Handley,
Salkovskis, & Ehlers, 2008). When performing the study 125 people received TF–CBT, and the
remaining 59 received 'EMDR + in vivo exposure'. In results there was a clear sign of reduction in
mild travel anxiety with up to 7.3 sessions. Although, there were found that one treatment would be
more beneficial than the other in terms of reduction of symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD.
Overall the signs of Travel Phobia and anxiety were reduced in both methods of treatments giving
the researchers plenty of evidence for being successful in a trauma–focused treatment plan.
The study case of children phobia is not like others present before it, this case suggests that that to
decrease a phobia is should be multi–method, multi–informant, and developmentally sensitive.
Another aspect that differs from others is that it will assess the home–living of children as well as
their caregivers. Their study examined predictors of treatment outcome for 106 phobic and anxious
youth (aged 6 to 17 years) and their parents. The treatment included trials such as: diagnostic
interviewing, fear survey schedules, anxiety questionnaires and behavioral observations. Taking
methods from the DSM–IV–C there are separate questionnaires for both parent and child on
different phobia types (animal, injection, and environment) on a scale from one to eight of
interference. In traditional

Gregg's Appliances Case Study
Case Study 1–6
Introduction This issue for case study 1–6 is brought to us by Steve Nelson and the company of the
Gregg's Appliances, Inc. The HH Gregg Company was founded on April 15, 1955 in Indianapolis by
Henry Harold Gregg and his wife. The initial store was an 800 square feet appliance showroom and
office. Since then the company has expanded and with that expansion the company needed more and
more information technology in order to harness the power of the information they had acquired.
But in 2006 the current CIO, Steve Nelson, was facing a deadline. The deadline was the HP, which
was Gregg's principal information technology vendor, has chosen to discontinue support for its line
of HP 300 mainframe processors. Gregg's relied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bonuses to this choice would be lower costs compared to Delphi and Sentra, Gregg's could
maintain current business processes and there is limited training required. But the Texas Firm UNIX
platform does not move Gregg's to an industry standard and it requires significant development staff
time. The other UNIX choice was from Ex–ADI costing $4–$5 million. The process for this change
would be to hire programmers and re–write into a UNIX platform internally. The biggest benefit to
this selection was that it allows for phase–in implementation, which means no business will be
stopped. It is also much cheaper than Delphi and Sentra options. The software will also be high
adaptable and customizable and limited training will be required. But this will not move the
company to an "industry standard" and nothing will seem new. There are several big risks when
changing important software in a large company. It could lead to a sudden halt of the business
during the deployment because of a failed database, a bad internet connection or the inability of staff
to input or process orders. The system might not be able to handle the work load. Lastly, there could
be an unexpected complete system shutdown. There are also other costs to consider. Along with the
implementation and annual maintenance costs outlined in the summary, Nelson Must also consider
other costs including: * Training costs * Testing costs * Costs of lost

First Come First Serve (FCFS): This is a service policy that is based on attaining the customers or

priority in the sequence of their arrival. FCFS discipline of service delivery does not take any other
parameter into consideration like quantity, monetary value of the order, etc. If we select this method
of delivery to our clients, we are bound to release the order in the sequence of date (Greasley, 2008).

We should adopt the policy of Backward Scheduling, while using this method, because the due date
is given in this case and we are supposed to plan our work schedule, such that we can meet the
commitments of due date.
Critical Ratio Method: As we know that Critical Ratio method prioritize the work as per their
significance, and take into consideration two critical factors, one when the work is required to be
completed to meet the deadline and the second factor is how much time is required to complete the
work. The use of this method for meeting the due date would lower the average work flow time,
compared to First Come and First Serve method and Due Date method, but higher when compared
to Shortest Processing Time. The average tardiness is lower than FMFS method and SPT method but
higher than Due Date method.
Recommendation
After the analysis of all the four methods and evaluating their pros and cons of using them, we can
find out that it would be wise to use Shortest Processing Time method. When we compare this
method to other three methods, for meeting the commitments of our clients regarding due date, we
can easily observe that this method is best suitable in present context. We have to deliver the order
of our clients within a relatively short span of time with respect to the flow of work. As this method
has the lowest average work flow time, although it has a bit higher average

Anderson Plastics Inc. Company Essay
Case Study
In this case study Roger Gray and the Anderson Plastics Inc. Company has a many purchasing
problems and concerns. All of these problems are not directly caused my Roger Gray himself or the
purchasing department. In this report I will explain these problems and recommend ways in which
these problems can be resolved.
One problem in this company is the lack of staff in the purchasing department. The plants number of
products has increased from 250 to 550 and Roger Gray is still the only real purchasing agent for the
company. I believe with more help Roger Gray could spend more time monitoring inventories
instead of filling out order forms on the computer. If Roger Gray could have more help with doing
the simple tasks in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Holding more of the stock on hand would also be an appropriate way to help prevent stock outs. The
company has never criticized Roger Gray for having too many items in stock. It is not necessary to
hold the extra items that you don't sell as much in stock, just the primary items. By holding more of
the primary resources in stock you will still be able to produce the items that generate the most
income. This will help keep customers happy, and will also keep some of the plant running saving
some money for the company.
The materials management systems need to be updated. They are never truly up–to–date or real time
amounts. The case says that the systems are usually a day or two behind so Roger never actually
knows what he has in stock. In order for Roger Gray to be able to do his job more effectively it
would help if he knew what he had on hand at any given time. Upgraded computer and company
software and hardware as a whole would make the company more efficient. The company may also
need to find a different way of controlling and monitoring stock numbers. Possibly people could
alert Roger or one of his fellow staff members when they are taking a load of materials to a new
place or area of the plant so he is aware of where everything is at all times. Another issue within the
company is the lack of communication from one department to the other. This was the cause of one
of the stock outs

African American Women in Upper Management Essay
Within the upper echelons of upper management is scant room for African American women. This
mini–proposal outlines a research project that focuses on the phenomena of the nominal amount of
African American women are in positions of management or organizational leadership within the
City of Philadelphia. Proposed Problem The issue necessitating this empirical study I the low
representation of African American women in Philadelphia in positions of power and leadership.
Within the private and public sector of organizations within city agencies and businesses, there is

Indeed, this significant task necessitates the significance of organizational or management
leadership in the financial performance of the minority, women–led non–profits in comparison to
non–profit organizations that are led by males. Even though strategic planning is one of the key
factors involved in organizational leadership, it is also essential to consider other factors such as the
corporate culture, the dynamics of the management group, and the manner in which the strengths
and expertise of management is vital in organizational effectiveness (Schein, 2010). Therefore, the
proposed study investigates the importance of organizational leadership as a vital factor in resolving
the organizations' dismal performance, e.g., the management for socio–economic education, and
workforce development organizations in Philadelphia may consider conducting environmental
scanning procedures such as SWOT Analysis in order to determine the opportunities available for
maximizing the organizations' effectiveness regarding the provision of service deliverables. The
projected results of the study will concentrate on the provision of various strategic plans of
management to further uncover methods for recruiting a diverse population (African American
women) in

Multiple Case Study Analysis Essay
Summary
This is an education research paper that explores the qualitative research method known as Multiple
Case Study Analysis. It will look at design, implementation, and analysis. It will further touch on
what is meant by a case study in itself.
Introduction
As asserted by Stake (2006), "The multicase study is a special effort to examine something having
lots of cases, parts, or members" (p. vi), which by the study of those parts, is able to then better
understand the something as a whole, and the ways in which it functions across different scenarios.
In other words, it attempts to explore and understand a specific issue or phenomenon, within its
context, by examining the individual parts, or cases, which make it up. Stake ... Show more content

If the intended methodological design is a qualitative multiple case study, then each case must be
known completely, which leaves little attention to the quintain. This forced split of the research
analyst's attention is what Stake (2006) describes as the "case–quintain dilemma" (p. 1).
Single Case Studies Developing theory from case studies is a research scheme that involves the
utilization of multiple cases in an effort to create notional theories and proposals from case–based
empirical evidence (Eisenhardt, 1989), and since a multiple case study is basically made up of
various individual case studies, the understanding of basic case study methodology is essential.
Creswell (1998) describes a case study as a qualitative research method in which the researcher
explores a bounded system (what Stake refers to as the quintain), through thorough detailed data
collection over a period of time, involving various collection sources, which results in the
materialization of case–based theses and reports. Stake (2006) states that these processes are so
involved, that for every hour a researcher spends collecting data, he needs an additional six hours for
things such as recording, describing, preparing, reflecting, and the like. In his book, Stake (2006)
provides a diagramed outline for gathering

Increasing Faculty Resistance And General Education...
Decreasing Faculty Resistance to General Education Assessment The assessment of general
education courses within the realm of higher education has been a topic of concern and some
contention as external regulatory bodies, accrediting agencies, and donors have become increasingly
interested in seeing quantifiable results from these courses. While universities strive to maintain
effective assessment of their programs, one area that consistently falls by the wayside is the
assessment of general education courses. These courses have been difficult for many universities to
effectively assess due to a multitude of reasons, ranging from the large number of general education
courses offered, to a lack of support and cohesion on the part of the ... Show more content on

The anticipated outcome of the study will be a decrease in faculty resistance to assessment efforts in
general education courses.
Friedman & Stone (2002) highlight an issue on this topic: that colleges and departments are
receiving pressure, both externally, from regulatory and accrediting bodies, and internally, from
board members and upper administration, to expand upon general education assessment efforts
(Friedman & Stone, 2002). This pressure is falling on the faculty who teach these courses. The
faculty, in turn, are resistant to administrative efforts to dictate what, if any, assessments are being
given in their classes. Although Friedman & Stone address this resistance, more research must be
done on how to effectively overcome it. In another article, Banta et Al. (1993), stated that, "there is
tension between the two principle purposes of assessment: demonstrating accountability and
improving curricula, instruction, and student services." Governing and accrediting bodies are more
concerned with demonstrating accountability since the stipulations of their investment in a
university are measured through quantifiable program benchmarks. However, the teaching faculty
value assessment in terms of curriculum improvement and as a way to refine instructional
methodology. Banta et Al's quote highlights this disconnect. According to another article published
by Kramer (2006) the tension

JOURNAL OF BUSINESS LOGISTICS, Vol. 31, No. 2, 2010 331 ACTION RESEARCH IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT–A FRAMEWORK FOR RELEVANT AND RIGOROUS RESEARCH by Dag Näslund University of North Florida and Lund University Rahul Kale University of North Florida and Antony Paulraj University of North Florida INTRODUCTION Scholars in the field of business management have frequently debated the relative importance of rigor and relevance in business research. In fact, there are an increasing number of articles that discuss the problems associated with the lack of relevance in published business research. Relevant research "develops insights that help managers understand themselves and their organizations better" (Markides 2007, p.765). On the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In spite of its potential to address relevant research questions, few published action research–based articles exist within the field of supply chain management (Näslund 2002). In fact, these studies are so rare that they almost constitute the "White Space" of research in the field (Frankel and Näslund 2005). One reason for this reluctance to adopt AR can be attributed to the lack of rigor in some of the previously published works. Alvesson (1996, p.456) wrote "...much qualitative research is as superficial as questionnaire studies." Case research has, unfortunately, been used as an excuse for "industrial tourism"–visiting lots of organisations without any pre–conceived ideas as to what is being researched" (Voss, Tsikriktsis, and Frohlich 2002, p.196). Similarly, a criticism of AR is that it more resembles consulting versus rigorous research; that is, consulting "masquerading as research" (Coughlan and Coghlan 2002, p.237). At this point, he is not aware of the problems he will face in his new endeavor. Carl's lack of experience is clearly exhibited when his assurance has not been tested. The next key problem that arises for Carl is when he checks the new trainee files and discovers that they are incomplete. All the new recruits have gone through the interview process and filled out their paperwork. Unfortunately, the paperwork is incomplete and missing lots of valuable data. To make matters worse, some files are missing transcripts, and no one has completed the required drug screens. Problems only get worse for Carl when he discovers that only three copies of the employee manuals exist. Of the three manuals that exist, they are all missing several pages. When students newly come the United States, they have a difficult time with learning the English language and adapting to the way that schools work. The authors' discussed about how "language proficiency is a prerequisite for economic, political, social and cultural integration" (126). It made me aware that in order to fit into a new culture you have to be able to understand them politically, economically, and socially. The authors support this claim by doing a case study with female immigrants from Burma to see how the lack of English proficiency effects them social, economically, politically, and culturally (129–133). Their data and findings from the case study showed that to be able to blend into a new society and culture you need to not just be English proficient, but also have to know the environment that it ... This comparison was on average against 21 countries. These reports were started in 2000, where they resembled a report card of the comparisons but the latest one was February 2007. The report has some interesting and detailed information on contributing factors on children poverty. The first contributor I will discuss is emotional and social issues for poor children. These problems include impulsive behaviors, lack of social skills, anxiety, depression and low self–esteem. These problems make it difficult for future success in school or work as they grow. (UNICEF) Emotional children may begin to feel helpless and start to separate from the crowd to avoid embarrassment. They have to deal with the looks and comments of people who are more fortunate talking down to them. There's a feeling of helplessness and questions on why they have to be less fortunate. • 50. Employee Productivity Is The Backbone Of Any Enterprise Chapter 1: Problem Definition Background Employee productivity, also known as workforce productivity, is the backbone of any enterprise. According to Amabile and Kramer (2012), the source of productivity at any company "...is the individual knowledge workers who get things done every day" (para. 1). And according to Axilrod (2015), the typical employee is at his or her desk for an average of approximately five hours a day, paid for by the company. Thus, in the current climate of globalization, outsourcing, downsizing, and pension reduction, it is vital for administration and management to stay on top of what sustains employee loyalty and employee productivity. Several elements contribute to effective employee productivity, including employee job satisfaction and morale (Axilrod, 2015; Manson, 2014; Jarrow, 2013; Kaupelyte, 2013; Turner, 2013; Amabile & Kramer, 2012; Walters, 2010; Bowles & Cooper, 2009). Neely (2013) asserts that "Regardless of the profession or type of work, the central element that has had a stake in productivity, longevity and overall success of any organization [is] employee morale" (p. 13). The technology sector is one of the fastest–growing in the business, if not the fastest–growing sector. Like many others in other sectors, companies in the technology sector are facing the challenges of employee productivity and are initiating actions toward performance management (Axilrod, 2015) to "...focus... on the performance of employees and [ensure] their ... • 52. Systems Analysis : System Analysis Systems Analysis Portfolio Nola J Ward Walden University INTRODUCTION System analysis is not a fixed set of techniques but what it does is take into account all aspects of a situation from a systems perspective by looking at all its different elements and concentrating on the interactions among the elements. What system analysis does is create a framework to be reviewed and discussed among individuals in different areas to determine what is the best way to accomplish its desired goals and what must be done for their current and future needs of the organization. In simpler words, systems analysis is a structured system because of certain tools and techniques such as data flow diagrams are used to conduct analysis. Systems analysis shows how a business functions in order to increase effectiveness, efficiency and to improve an organizations work processes. In reading Thinking in Systems, it states that there are three things a system consist of: elements, interconnections, and a purpose or function (Meadows, 2008). Systems may exhibit dynamic, self– preserving, goal–seeking and even evolutionary behavior; basically it is more than just the collections of its parts. In the book, The Fifth Discipline, Peter Senge (2006, p 7) suggests that in order to cultivate systems thinking in an organization, they must have these disciplines: Personal mastery, mental models, a shared vision and team learning. Common fears may be heights or spiders; some would rationally go out of their way to avoid these, but this is quite different from having a phobia. A phobia is an irrational distress with a particular object or concept/idea. Although fears are well known now, they do not have to disrupt the lives of those who are living them. Throughout the essay there will be three different treatments with three different phobias in ways to cure a phobia; the first is a trauma–focused treatment approach for travel phobia, assessment and treatment for childhood phobias, and hypnosis in facilitating clinical treatment of injections. ... But the Texas Firm UNIX platform does not move Gregg's to an industry standard and it requires significant development staff time. The other UNIX choice was from Ex–ADI costing $4–$5 million. The process for this change would be to hire programmers and re–write into a UNIX platform internally. The biggest benefit to this selection was that it allows for phase–in implementation, which means no business will be stopped. It is also much cheaper than Delphi and Sentra options. The software will also be high adaptable and customizable and limited training will be required. But this will not move the company to an "industry standard" and nothing will seem new. There are several big risks when changing important software in a large company. It could lead to a sudden halt of the business during the deployment because of a failed database, a bad internet connection or the inability of staff to input or process orders. The system might not be able to handle the work load. Lastly, there could be an unexpected complete system shutdown. There are also other costs to consider. If the intended methodological design is a qualitative multiple case study, then each case must be known completely, which leaves little attention to the quintain. This forced split of the research analyst's attention is what Stake (2006) describes as the "case–quintain dilemma" (p. 1). Single Case Studies Developing theory from case studies is a research scheme that involves the utilization of multiple cases in an effort to create notional theories and proposals from case–based empirical evidence (Eisenhardt, 1989), and since a multiple case study is basically made up of various individual case studies, the understanding of basic case study methodology is essential. Creswell (1998) describes a case study as a qualitative research method in which the researcher explores a bounded system (what Stake refers to as the quintain), through thorough detailed data collection over a period of time, involving various collection sources, which results in the materialization of case–based theses and reports. Stake (2006) states that these processes are so involved, that for every hour a researcher spends collecting data, he needs an additional six hours for things such as recording, describing, preparing, reflecting, and the like. These courses have been difficult for many universities to effectively assess due to a multitude of reasons, ranging from the large number of general education courses offered, to a lack of support and cohesion on the part of the ... Friedman & Stone (2002) highlight an issue on this topic: that colleges and departments are receiving pressure, both externally, from regulatory and accrediting bodies, and internally, from board members and upper administration, to expand upon general education assessment efforts (Friedman & Stone, 2002). This pressure is falling on the faculty who teach these courses. The faculty, in turn, are resistant to administrative efforts to dictate what, if any, assessments are being given in their classes. Although Friedman & Stone address this resistance, more research must be done on how to effectively overcome it. In another article, Banta et Al. (1993), stated that, "there is tension between the two principle purposes of assessment: demonstrating accountability and improving curricula, instruction, and student services." Governing and accrediting bodies are more concerned with demonstrating accountability since the stipulations of their investment in a university are measured through quantifiable program benchmarks. However, the teaching faculty value assessment in terms of curriculum improvement and as a way to refine instructional methodology. Banta et Al's quote highlights this disconnect. According to another article published by Kramer (2006) the tension ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
