The IIoT industry in 2020
Forecast of market size and development trend of the industrial IoT industry in 2020
The Industrial Internet of Things is to realize the flexible allocation of manufacturing materials,
the on-demand execution of the manufacturing process, the reasonable optimization of the
manufacturing process and the rapid adaptation of the manufacturing environment through the
network interconnection, data intercommunication and system interoperation of industrial
resources to achieve efficient use of resources to build a service-driven new industrial ecosystem.
The Industrial Internet of Things has six characteristics: intelligent perception, ubiquitous
connectivity, precise control, digital modeling, real-time analysis, and iterative optimization.
The implementation phase of the Industrial Internet of Things
The implementation of the Industrial Internet of Things includes the following phases:
(1) Intelligent perception: collect industrial data anytime, anywhere;
(2) Interconnection: The collected data is transmitted in real-time and accurately using the
communication network;
(3) Data application: Use cloud computing, big data and other related technologies to achieve full
mining and utilization of data;
(4) Service mode: The use of information management, intelligent terminals, and platform
integration to realize the intelligent transformation of traditional industries. The development of
the Industrial Internet of Things allows organizations to connect different old and new equipment,
realize mutual dialogue, optimize resources and create value in the interconnection.
Industrial Internet Industry Chain
The industrial Internet industry chain is relatively long. The upstream collects industrial big data
through intelligent hardware. The midstream is a platform. The downstream is an industrial
enterprise. Any single level or enterprise cannot achieve the industrial chain.
Upstream: hardware devices. Upstream equipment factories and software vendors mainly
provide the intelligent hardware equipment and software required by the platform to support
data acquisition, storage, analysis, and development. The hardware equipment required mainly
includes various sensors, industrial-grade chips, controllers, intelligent gateways, intelligent
machine tools, and industrial robots.
Midstream: Industrial Internet platform. From the perspective of architecture, the Industrial
Internet is divided into an edge layer, IaaS layer, PaaS layer, and SaaS layer. The edge layer (that is,
the process of industrial big data collection) is the basis for the development of the Industrial
Internet. The IaaS layer mainly solves data storage and cloud computing and involves equipment
such as servers and storage. The PaaS layer provides various solutions for developing and
distributing applications, such as virtual servers and operating systems. The SaaS layer is mainly
used in various scenarios, such as industrial apps.
Downstream: Industrial enterprises in typical application scenarios. There are currently five types
of industrial equipment companies that have the potential to be on the cloud: one is high
energy-consuming equipment such as ironmaking blast furnaces and industrial boilers; the other
is general power equipment such as diesel engines, large and medium-sized motors, and large air
compressors. Third, new energy equipment, such as wind power, photovoltaic and other

equipment; Fourth, high-value equipment, such as engineering machinery, CNC machine tools,
gas turbines, and other equipment; Fifth, special equipment such as instruments and meters,
such as smart water meters and smart gas meters.
The scale of the industrial Internet market is nearly 700 billion yuan
At present, with the rapid development of the new generation of information technology
represented by the Internet, the Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence, and the
accelerated integration with traditional industries, a new round of global scientific and
technological revolution and industrial revolution is booming. As a result of the continuous
emergence of new production methods, organizational methods and business models, the
Industrial Internet emerged at the historic moment, driving the intelligent transformation of the
global industrial system. Data show that the size of China's industrial Internet market reached
531.8 billion yuan in 2018, and it is estimated that by 2020, the scale of China's industrial Internet
market will be nearly 700 billion yuan. China is a big country in global manufacturing and
industrial development. With the gradual fall of industrial policies, the market space is expected
to accelerate. China's industrial Internet companies have great prospects for empowering smart
cities, intelligent transportation, and government management, and the market scale is expected
to reach a trillion market.
Future development trends of the industry
1. Device connection is becoming more diversified
The number and types of smart devices connected to the Industrial Internet of Things are
increasing. Massive data generated by interconnections tend to be processed at the data source
instead of transmitting the data to the cloud, which is more suitable for real-time and intelligent
processing of data. More secure, faster, and easier to manage.
2. The transformation from industrial individuals to ecosystems
Companies in the field of industrial IoT will transform from a single industrial individual to
participants in the value chain. The companies will become part of the ecosystem of industrial IoT
solution providers through the establishment and development of close strategic partnerships.
3. Application transfer from equipment and assets to products and customers
The Industrial Internet of Things not only enables the interconnection of equipment but also
serves enterprises by optimizing product types and maintaining customer relationships. However,
the amount of product and customer information obtained by industrial enterprises is far less
than that of assets and equipment. Therefore, in order to develop more attractive products or
enhance existing customer relationships, industrial companies in the future need a large amount
of product and customer-related information support.
