Music videos have evolved significantly since their origin in the early 20th century. Some of the early precursors to music videos included Spooney Melodies in 1931, which featured animation and live performances, and Soundies from 1940-1947. Major developments included Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" video in 1975, the launch of MTV in 1981 which aired "Video Killed the Radio Star", and David Bowie's expensive "Ashes to Ashes" video in 1980. More recently, music videos have featured YouTube celebrities like Weezer's "Pork and Beans" in 2008, and Vevo was launched in 2009 to syndicate videos to YouTube and share advertising revenue.
